This is absolutely Earthlink. They called to let me know that my credit card ending #### used to pay my web domain services had expired (which it had). IT IS GENUINE. This number is not a scam. I told them I wanted to check the card and I asked them to call me back in 20 minutes which they did. While I waited for them to call back I logged into my earthlink account and updated the credit card information. When they called back in 20 minutes they already knew I had updated my account online and all they asked was if it was OK to process the payment at this time. I said OK. They were very very nice. At no time did they ask for a credit card number since the one I already had on file just needed the expiration date updated.

By the way, if you think you do not have an Earthlink account just ask them what the services are. Your internet provider may have been bought out by Earthlink which is exactly how I ended up with them. They frequently buy out smaller internet providers and when they bought Lightspeed.net I ended up with earthlink. They provide internet connection, domain services, email services, web design, and a lot of other services for both home and business.

They do not leave voice mail regarding billing issues because they want to protect your privacy. They asked for me by name and I said that was me before they would share the reason for their call. Just like bill collectors must do. You may wish they left a voice mail or a message on your answering machine but really, do you want everyone in the house to know about your business?

This would have been a legitimate call, because my credit card number had changed, and Earthlink had been calling about it. Fine -- but they didn't leave any message and just kept calling. I checked the number, found that people were reporting that it was Earthlink, logged onto my account, and got the new credit card entered. Then the website told me that the new credit card would be used for the next billing cycle, leaving an unpaid balance for the current cycle. I had to live-chat with a rep to get the current bill paid. Now, the same phone number is still calling, presumably to ask me whether I was happy with their "service." Or maybe because they don't realize that the problem is fixed. These guys need to realize that "Unknown" on the caller ID does not get their phone calls answered.

Am NOT an Earthlink customer, yet these morons think I'm gonna take their calls.
Lame brains.

Earthlink.net must have been calling to see if my problem was satisfactorily resolved from a few days ago. Caller ID just said TOLL FREE CALL. I answered and heard no response within a couple of seconds of my "hello". So, I hung up.

When they ask for credit card info - Give them a made up number.

Earthlink calling to see if I was happy with the service call a few days back (I was NOT). They gave me a different 800 number and a PIN number to speak with the non-India, higher level support folks. I'll see if they call again.

**update** They called again and I actually talked to someone. It is a legit Earthlink number. However, because of this call I am in the process of canceling my accounts with them. They verified that I had updated my credit cards. They verified that my accounts were paid and up to date. They were calling to see if I wanted to pay for NEXT months service-early! The account is set up to pay automatically. When I said no and explained why-the guy hung up on me! I then went through live help h*ll to complain to no avail- just copy paste answers from them. So, I'm done once I work out the technical aspects of moving a site.

Amazing.

Got a call last month when I was ONE DAY overdue on my Earthlink account because the credit cards they had on file were the ones that had been hacked online, canceled and blocked for fraud. Indian fellow on the phone, very rude. I crossed my fingers and gave them my one remaining card number for ONE month charge only. My work depends on email and site hosting and I didn't want them to drop my site. My card was charged and no other suspect charges have happened. I've updated my credit info on the Earthlink site, my account are current yet this Earthlink caller has been calling 3 times a day! When I answer the phone I get a dead click click sound and no one answers.

A young lady from India called me, said she was with Earthlink, and she asked for "Tim Jones"

2009-03-05 16:02:04 UTCerin new hope

this was a definite scam man with Indian accent claimed to be from earthlink and asked if i wanted a lower rate on credit card. i said no and hung up. checked with earthlink customer service. this is fraud. it is not earthlink. their number is similar 888-327-8545. earthlink claims they got my number randomly and that they do not have access to actual customer list. i don't know about this part. i reported this to the FTC, the PA attorney general's office and the FBI. FTC says you can get them at least on violating the do not call list, but we should not pick up when they call and let them know they have our names and numbers right.

Others here say it's Earthlink calling asking for billing change info. Doesn't sound right because you can do that easily from the Earthlink website.

2009-01-11 21:29:25 UTCMelissa

They wanted me to change the card that they bill to (it had expired). They call every month but I am not giving any cc numbers over the phone...not that interested in any company taking money from me automatically either. My account is paid in full 2 WEEKS in advance too!

2008-10-26 23:10:22 UTCMom

Earthlink. Would not state their business even though asked repeatedly.

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION! THEY ARE MIDDLE EASTERN AND COULD BE AL QAIDA LINKED TRYING TO GET FUNDS TTO FINANCE THE NEXT TERRORIST ATTACK WITHIN THE UNITED STATES! They called me and told me also, they wanted my credit card number, only one catch, my account was paid up for a whole year using a U.S. Postal Money Order! Just tell them if they call that you do not give out any credit card information over the telephone especially to people with possible terrorist ties! Tell them you are a United States citizen and only deal with U.S. Citizens and hang up on the bastards! With all the people in the United States out of work and looking for food money, what the hell is Earthlink doing hiring non-U.S. citizens to promote their bussiness? Earthlink should be entered into The United States Hall Of Shame! Hire a un-employed U.S. Veteran or Starving Senior Citizen instead of Middle Eastern people of in India! BE AMERICAN< BUY AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES< LET'S PUT AMERICA BACK TO WORK !!!

This is Earthlink. In our area they were once in cahoots with Sprint. You got
Sprint Phone Service with Earthlink dialup for a package deal. Sprint & Earthlink parted ways recently and Earthlink took over billing these people direct. I stopped using Sprint/Earthlink a couple years ago. Sprint kept sending me a negative bill for like -$11. I assumed it would be a major ordeal to get the eleven bucks. They deliberately chose to continue negative billing me instead of just sending me the dough. So the account stayed "alive" and when Earthlink took back the accounts they started sending me a hardcopy bills. I called and bitched. The folks over in India said they'd straighten things out, but the phone keep ringing. I'm keeping my eye peeled for another hard-copy bill.

Message left on my answering machine, asking me to call and "...your payment method needs to be updated, call back 888-327-8454". Sounds like a phishing call. Was called earlier today and spoke with someone with Indian accent who said that I needed to make a payment on my account and he needed my credit card #. I told him that I did not give my card # to someone I didn't know, and hung up.

Can't get off their automated calling list. Reporting them to the FCC.

2007-11-25 22:40:51 UTCd

Scam! Pretend you're a customer and want your information to update billing. Don't tell them anything or they'll start charging you.

2007-11-25 22:38:47 UTCn

These idiots keep calling. Can't get off their calling list. I'm reporting them to the donotcall.gov.

Scam to call customer service. A company called Earthlink answers, but I don't have any services from them. Do not call them or provide them with any information that could be used fraudently.

Left voice mail claiming to be Earthlink and that I need to change my payment method. That's a crock. Sounds like a scam to me.

2007-01-12 15:51:48 UTCPat B

I am Earthlink customer. Support called to confirm that my problem had been taken care of.

2007-01-12 11:47:44 UTCC

I didn't pick up. I googled the number and found it was Earthlink. It was a legitimate call involving a billing question. I wish their name had shown up on the ID. I would have picked up, since I'm a customer.

2006-08-30 23:05:58 UTCK

sombody left voice mail to this number and a guy say it's earth link...I am a customer of earth link though

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
