Report a phone call from 8882812409
How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

First of all, correct me if I'm wrong, know one has a friend named "Name Unavailable" so why answer in the first place? Second, if you are on "The Do Not Call" list you know firsthand (if you actually read it) that charitable organizations are exempt from such list. To be quite honest, I'm on the list and all I get is charity calls. The list stopped the solicitors but started the charities. And the reason we take the bigger portion of the proceeds is because were hired by the charity to do the fundraising
just think 600 employees to call the entire country we use computers, lights, gas, water, everything we have all these bills to pay then to pay us. We have to pay our bills just like you do we only do as were told you cant blame us. Half of you people we call if given the opportunity would be doing the same thing to survive the economy. And the care packages don't go out blank the actual charity not us professional fundraiser has the list with the names of soldiers.
I received a call about 9:30 this morning (Saturday, April 24, 2010). I declined to make a donation and the caller started making a big push by talking faster and talking over me even though I insisted that I wasn't going to give any money. Then he started getting rude and telling me that these people (Navy veteran's) are dying for me. Again, I said I was sorry but I wasn't going to give. He continued to talk and then I said I don't like to hang up on people but.... At this point, his tone of voice was extremely rude and he said, "I don't either." He then hung up on me. I will never give to any association or anyone who behaves in this manner.
I offer my sympathies to those who have lost a loved one. However, this organization definitely doesn't have the substance of character that we find in the people in the armed services.
I said 'yes' to $20 but figured I would check the situation out when the envelope arrived. I won't be sending the check after reading all these testimonials but sure wish the FBI would get them since this constitutes mail fraud. Judging by their mailings a lot of money has been spent setting up this scam.
Here is the link to the information that I found on the United States Veterans Affairs website about this non-chartered organization.

I received a solicitation for a donation over the telephone from someone saying he represented the U.S. Navy veterans and wished to send a care package overseas. I immediately declined the request because I had never heard of this organization. I guess I was right to be cautious.
I wrote to the US Navy Veterans, the real ones , this is the reply I received:

Response (Department of Veterans Affairs) 11/19/2009 02:56 PM
The organization is not Congressionally charter nor recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the purpose of preparation, presentation, and prosecution of veterans’ claims. You may wish to go online to review information about this organization
I fell for it like a total idiot. I never suspected it was a scam for one second. The guy that called was super professional and much better in his phone etiquette than some services I call. And he sounded as if "he really care" for the cause which made me want to donate. A member of my husband's family was in a military so I thought it would be right thing to do to donate so I said yes for 20 dollars. Yes. 20. But he began asking for 50 and I explained I did not have much money so he said how about 20. so . 20 it was. I got the card in the mail and I sent it back but I could only send back $5 dollars. I got another card in the mail again, with a label " Friendly Reminder" in red.
I called the number on the card and nobody answers the phone.
When I checked the addressed on the card, the return address and the headquarters address it points to a UPS business.! so I thought that was weird. It looks so real, and it has the logo of the US Navy Veterans Association! so scary. nowadays.
I got a call from this group and they sent me a pledge card. How can I report this scam and to whom?Thank you for your help.Debi
They talked to my kid! How do I make a formal complaint?
Came up on caller ID as 'unknown name'. When I answered, it was dead air, then they disconnected.
Hung up when I answered.
Claimed to be calling from the U.S. Navy Veteran's Association and wanted to know if we would make a pledge so that they could send a care package to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The pledge card would be mailed to us for completion, but right now they wanted a verbal pledge.
Hung up when I answered.
Did not answer, left no message.
I have no family members in the military, and they still call my house. I will not report them to the do not call list, as I feel they fall under a charity, but I will not stop what I am doing at 9PM and take their calls either. It's downright rude to call so late.
Hi guys, I actually work for one a professional fund raising company. I can't and WILL NOT get into specifics about where I work.
1st thing first, the DNC registry is setup to protect you from UNSOLICITED SALES CALLS i.e. windows, doors, A/C, etc etc. HOWEVER it does not protect you from calls for contributions for either Non-Profit nor a Charity, as designated by the 501c(3) US Tax Code.
2nd - DO NOT EVER SAY TO CALL BACK OR GIVE A TIME TO CALL BACK!!! Tell them if they ever call back you will be reporting them to your states attorney generals office. You telling them a time to call back, is like saying "hey, I don't mind if you harass the hell out of me."
3rd - If you want off the list, tell them "Take me off your calling list permanently. If I hear from this organization again, you will be receiving a letter from the attorney generals office." Side note, DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF THEY GET PISSY, AND HANG UP RIGHT AWAY. By the way, I don't know about every organization out there, but I would assume 90% of all of these type of calls are recorded. Also for the most part it is for quality assurance, and training.
Last but def not least check out this website if you want to have some fun with a telemarketer :)
xs4all.nl
Asked for a Ms.Kris (or Krisp). I said "This is Mrs. J******". He said "Can I speak to Ms. Kris(p)?" (how stupid can you get?) I said "No. I dont know her. This is the J****** household". THen he launches into a spiel about being with Navy Veterens and could I help with a donation of....I cut him off and I told him I was busy potty training and need to go and he kept talking anyway so i hung up.
To the person about who thinks the should answer because they have a son in the service and it might be him calling...get a clue! Its a phone solicitor NOT your kid calling. It's not someone in boot camp calling home! I dont know anyone in boot camp! It's some jerky dude who wont take no for an answer.

Scammers.
Take NOTE::: USPS DOES NOT-DOES NOT-DOES NOT-SEND packages without having a specific person's name or address!
Asked for my by my maiden name....complete give away that they are perusing the phone book. Said his name was "Dale", like he knew me. Bye-bye
The calls come several times a week sometimes after 8 pm, I answer and it's just dead air. WTF?! So not only is it annoying that a telemarketer is calling but now they don't even say anything.
This number called and left no msg. Says for who called NOT PROVIDED then this phone number. I called it back and it said you have reached the US Navy Veteran's Association
Called us in Nebraska today. My wife was home sick and answered the phone.
It really put her on edge a bit. We lost our son (actually my step-son) to injuries he received in Iraq on November 3rd, 2005. I don't want to start a political debate about the war, though we support it after what Darren, my step-son, told us about his time over there. We support soldiers 100%!
If you want to do something for a soldier, THANK THEM! Shake their hand, wave hello, show them a smile, acknowledge they exist!
Remember this: when they scroll the 'death toll' on the screen of your TV, make a comment about it on the radio or put it in black and white in a newspaper, magazine or poster: there's a name, a face, a life lost, and a family missing someone for each of those numbers. I don't pay attention to the number. I listen intently when they talk about a soldier lost here locally and run to the family to show my support.
[ Getting down off my soapbox now. :) ]
They were not on the line when I picked up after only a couple of rings. I called it back and left a message that I was on the do not call list and not to call me. However, I am still going over to the FTC site and report them.
did not answer. no message
They are now calling CA numbers and leaving no message. They call first thing in the morning and the latest they call at night. I will never donate to this group.
Have received calls every few hours for a week, before finally answering tonight. Extremely rude individual. We actually gave last year to the US Navy Veterans, but could not determine who this guy represented at the time of the call (learned it from this website). Wanted a commitment to give on the phone prior to sending out any kind of pledge card. Said it was for care packages to "the veterans." Refused to fully identify his organization. Will not contribute to this organization again.
Caller ID said toll free svc. Man said he was with Navy Veterans wanting to send care packages. I told him I didn't donate per telephone phone calls. He said they wanted to send me some literature. I told him I wouldn't trust that either. He was rude and said "then you don't trust anything". I told him I only trust what I can verify myself. He kept talking so I hung up.
Morons called machine and hung up.
But reading the comments, why is this site making money on ads for companies that promise to "block your caller ID," and "show any number you want" on someone else's caller ID?
I'm on DNC list. Got first call today. Googled the number. Called it back. Just as they did, except I left message on their machine that I'm on a DNC list and they're not to call me back (didn't give them my number) and I am reporting this to the Missouri Attorney General's office.
Said he was with Navy Veteran's Assoc. I hung up..
Said he was ?(can't remember name)? from ACS...? and was calling on behalf of the Navy Veterans Association. Wanted me to donate money in order to send a care package to soldiers serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. I told him that I am one of those soldiers that served over in Iraq (I'm active duty Navy) and that I could assure him that my "care package" would not reach a soldier over there without a specific name addressed on it. He still tried to talk me into giving him $20!!!
If you received a call from this number and hung up, consider yourself fortunate. My husband just answered a call from this number. They identified themselves as US Navy Veteran's Assoc. Their scam is to request donations for their organization to send 'care packages' to our military troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. You can purchase a $20, $50, or larger donation and they will send packages to the troops for you.
First of all, packages have to be sent to specific individuals who are serving overseas. The postal service will not allow random packages to be sent.
Second, and more important, my husband inquired how much of the proceeds actually go to the soldiers. He was told that 80% goes to administrative costs. Only 20% actually goes to the mission.
If you get a call like this and think it would be a good service, think again. If you want to do something for our troops serving overseas, send something yourself. To ensure all of your gift goes to the soldier, check with your local military branch. Get the name of someone serving overseas.
Don't give these scammers the time of day. It gripes me to no end at how some people seek to make their own profit on troops who are defending our rights to freedom. I doubt this organization has anything at all to do with the Navy, or any branch of this country's military.
They did not leave a message. Only one call so far...
Wanted donations and I explained that my Girl Scout Troop was already collecting donations to send cookies over seas. The guy hung up on me while I was talking. How rude!
We have been receiving calls from this number for the past 2 weeks but tonight was the worst. We received 6 calls from this number in a 2 hour time span. They finally stopped at 9:30. We are suppose to be on the no call list but they call anyway. I wish there was a way to get them to stop.
Now they're using the breast cancer pitch, they say the DNC list doesn't apply to them but they want money when they call you. However, my call-blocking feature DOES apply to them, money well spent.
They called at 8:48 AM, he said my name (which he pronounced wrong) thats my cue that the caller doesnt know me. I told them its early and I work nights and he hung up on me.
Left a message: "uuuuuugh yello? [hung up]"
After reading some of your comments I think I may know what is happening. I too have received calls from this 888-281-2409 and have not answered until tonight. I answered on the 3rd ring but no one was there, or I could not hear them, or them me. But if you guys think it has something to do with the Navy that's possible because my son is in the Navy at boot camp in Chicago. He was supposed to be able to make contact with the outside world sometime this week - I hope he tries to call back. But that is probably what is going on - kids in boot camp trying to call home!
U.S. Navy veterans association with me too . . . I was kind of rude, which made me feel bad a little, but I don't enjoy phone solicitations.
didn't leave message
They have called repeatedly tonight---at least 6 times since about 5 p.m. We don't answer calls like this, although I was tempted to answer and tell them to stop calling. I believe my husband has donated once (solicited by a phone call) to the U.S. Navy Veteran's Association in the past year. We will never donate another dime to these people simply because of the tactics they are using to call repeatedly and also by not identifying themselves on the caller ID. They shouldn't be ashamed to show who they are if they are legitimate. I have instructed my husband to always ask if a charity is a 501 (C) 3 under the US Tax Code and if they are not, to not pledge anything to the caller. I work for a non-profit that is a 501 (C) 3 and it's not easy to get that designation but if you are a real charity, it's not that hard either.
California 707 459 XXXX area.
Rings 3 times, 8:53 PM 02 11 2008. I answer and there is no one there. I was ready to read them the riot act for calling so late.
Caller ID only showed the #. Did not leave message on answering machine. I called it back and also got the Navy Veterans Association. Guessing they wanted a donation.
I got a call from there. If you call back it says it is the United States Navy Veterans Association.
