How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

They called on behalf of US NAVY VETERANS ASSOICATION and ask for donation this the Phone# 1800 298 2431 are they legit?
Does anybody know if this is a legimate group? I have strong doubts - they call me periodically and keep wanting me to "up the ante" Would appreciate knowing. Thanks
I looked at the Naveyvets. website and found it to be a false website. It contains a front sheet home page that is totally inactive. You may click on any subject and it refreshes the same home page. You click on "annual report" and it goes to nowhere except the home page again. I.E., there are no other active windows and no information on this charity. I will save my charitable contributions for organizations in my community that I can observe doing good work for people in need, including Navy Veterans.
On Nov. 28, 2008, the day after Thanksgiving, around 10:40 AM, I received a call from a young man saying he was from the US Navy Veterans Association. I pleasantly answered that I was fine, thank you but that I was not interested in making a contribution over the phone and hung up without waiting for a reply. The phone rang again and the same young man said "That wasn't very polite or very smart." I immediately hung up. It sounded like a threat to me. If he truly represented the Veterans, he should be fired. Maybe he was just a free-lance scammer.
some one called my business. when asked gave this number 703-490-8741. when i asked name said. um..um.. my name is Rezzo Mike and I am caling from county. gave local county name. I aksed which department he refuse to give any department just said from county.. very suspecious. then didn't said any thing. said I wanted to speak to the owner and have him call me on this number I m in my office up to 1pm today.. unknown caller. looks like looking for some money...
They called, I didn't answer and they left no msg. Very annoying!
They call anytime any day, no respect for your privacy.
Answering machine picked up the call; caller hung up. I feel as though someone is entering my home without my permisiion; violating my space. Please! Let's put a stop to these intrusive phone calls.
I received 2 calls so far - 1-4 and 1-15-08. I told the first caller to remove me from their call list because I am on the "Do not call" list. They just hung up.
I told the second caller the same and he nastily told me they don't have time to deal with people like me. They have to spend their time with callers who want help reducing their credit card debt. Then he hung up.
They have been trying to get me for weeks. They call late then they call as early as 8AM. I have never answered the phone.
tollfree number did not answer
Call this evening, Jan. 8, 2008 @7:30 p.m., and I have caller i.d., and thought it was my Son calling, so I answered it, and the girl I spoke with, started out by thanking me for being so nice to her, that I have a pleasant voice, and that everyone else she has spoke to was not pleasant with her, and then she went on to say that they were asking for donations for care packages for troops in Iraq, and Afghanistan, and asked me if I'd donate $10.00 today, and I told her "no" not until I receive the paperwork about it in the mail. She said I would receive it in about 2 days. She wanted me to confirm my donation with another girl, in which again, I told this 2nd girl exactly what I told the 1st one, that I want to see paperwork on it first. They asked me if I wanted to pay by check or money order, and when I could pay, and I told both of them again, that I want to see the paperwork first before I contribute $10.00. The 1st girl that I spoke with was acting awfully pushy towards a donation, and again, I told both of them I want to see the paperwork first. I asked the first girl what business, or company name she worked for and she said,"ACS," then I asked her if they had a website, and she said,"navyvets.org". I thought to myself then that was strange giving me the name ACS, and a totally different website. Also, the first girl told me that they were on file with the Attorney General's Office, and that they were calling people in California.
GOT A CALL FROM US NAVY VETERANS ASSN. HERE IS A QUOTE FROM THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU:

United States Navy Veterans Association (USNVA) does not meet the following Standard for Charity Accountability.
Standard 11 : Financial Statements - Make available to all, on request, complete annual financial statements prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. When total annual gross income exceeds $250,000, these statements should be audited in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards. For charities whose annual gross income is less than $250,000, a review by a certified public accountant is sufficient to meet this standard. For charities whose annual gross income is less than $100,000, an internally produced, complete financial statement is sufficient to meet this standard.
USNVA does not meet this Standard because although USNVA's total income exceeds $250,000, it states it does not have audited financial statements.
I called the number and got a message for the United States Navy Veterans Association. It is a charity.

Stated he was from US Army veterans, had wife's maiden name, street address, asked if it was ok to send mailer for donation, suggested he was legit by saying his documents were maintained with the attorney general? but not which one? Told me to hold until the secreatary confirmed the state and zip. Sounded like a Upper accent, Upper Pinnesuela, Michigan, or Canada along the border.
Received call from this number at 10:17 a.m. central time. Four rings and disconnect before answering machine pick-up.
Just called, background chatter, no direct communication.
I AM a Navy Vet, we handle this support stuff in-house.
Make all tubes ready for firing.
These people repeatedly call after we have asked them to take us off their phone list. Most often they say, "oh that's alright, we'll call back later." If this were a reputable charity they would not do that.
Started getting calls from this number about 4 days ago and have called 3 to 4 times a day everyday since. I have set my computer/modem to intercept the call and automatically hang up on them (along with the many others). Calls like these in general have increased to my household 10 fold since Thanksgiving and I am adding new numbers to be intercepted daily. I would like to know why the DoNotCall law does not cover ALL calls requesting money, except for legitimate creditors that have business with YOU. Why are so called not-for-profit organizations exempt from calling you at home and badgering you for money?
Just received this call, from ACS, asking for a pledge for US Navy Veterans.
Navy people calling again. Dont pledge, they are worse than collection agencies, they will keep calling you 3-5x a day, once you donate you will start getting calls from every other bleeding heart organization. Make an anonomous donation to your cause but DO NOT PLEDGE OVER THE PHONE TO THE LOCUSTS !!
Received a call today from the above #, the caller identified herself as "Lekisha" and calling for the Navy Veterans Association and employed by ACS. I asked if she would (1) remove our number from their call list, (2) provide me their physical address, and (3) mail me their printed "Do Not Call Policy". She refered me to her supervisor "Vincent" who refused to comply with my requests. He gave me another # 888-665-9359, which turns out to be an answering machine. I advised "Vincent" that I would certainly seek damages in court should I receive further unsolicited calls from ACS. There are several precedents for recovering $$$ from these scum bags. So fight back.
Rep said he was doing fundraising for Iraq troops. Asked for pledge card donation to send care package to troops. Said I would prefer to review information before I commmit $$ and asked for website address. Provided navyvets.org as URL.
My answering machine only recorded someone saying "Mike?....Mike?" and that was all. I used *69 to get the number to call back to find out who it was and got a recorded message saying they were the Navy Veterans Association. ANY message left (and I've gotten a number from different *cough* organizations) that doesn't say something like "This is the Navy Veterans Association, please call us at # about helping us support veterans" is totally unprofessional and I don't have anything to do with them.
This is the second time i've been called by this number, the first time a woman told me she was from the NAVY ACS, this time a male called and said that they were calling on behalf of the Voorhees Fraternal Order of Police. When i asked what number he was calling from he told me "a Vonage number", i told them that i had looked this phone number up prior and found that it was a scam, he said that he was working for Dave Scott of the Voorhees FOP. I then told him to take me off of his phone list and that I was also calling the police department. When i called the police department they did say their was an officer Dave Scott. I left a message explaining why i was calling and asked him to call back. When he does I will put another message up. By the way, when i asked the male caller the number he was calling from he gave me a totally different number, the number was 703-490-8741, i called it using the *67 to block my number-and imagine that- they won't SPEAK to anyone that blocks their phone number! isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.
Just received this call. They asked if we were interested in donating to the Navy "ACS". When my wife began to state we had already given to the "Army" charities...the caller abruptly terminated the call with out any further conversation.
Called, hung up when I answered. When I Called the number back I got a voicemail message that it was the US Navy Veterans. Asked me to leave a messeage with my name, phone number, and pledge amount. I hung up. We already have a verterans support program where I work, and these places that call me at home just feel so scammy.
