I just recieved a call from this number on my cell phone. They were trying to sell me hosting services. I also registered a domain with Godaddy.com and I checked the privacy box. They should have never called me. I don't need any of this company services because I own a interenet hosting company.

Registered with godaddy a week ago and got call from them today.

Endless calls from godaddy since I registered a domain name. I have internet access to a list of all numbers called on my account (in or out). Some show as Godaddy but this one is blank. However, I suspect it is Godaddy!

I just had the number call me a few minutes ago, I missed the call due to my cellphone being in another room..Does anyone know who it leads to?

It called from this number (877) 577-0877, it's a APlus.net web design and hosting company, somehow they obtain my contact info through Rackspace (hosting provider; suspect it's an insider job that sell or leack the customer information out to APlus.net for a small fee).

They called me on Nov 28, 2007. I didn't answer, but I don't give out my number randomly. I did register a GoDaddly.com domain recently and it seems that they sold my information. Seeing that I host with them and pay for it I would think they would have the decency not to sell my info, which I am always very cautious about. I must say I am very disappointed.

Just received a call on me cell phone. When I answered it there was a delay which led me to believe it was an autodial program, so I hung up.

Called my cell phone on Nov 27, 2007 at 3:38 p.m. Pacific time zone

Simply asked if I was in charge of the website at the place of business... I told him this was a personal cell phone number, he apologized and we hung up.

We have 3 sites with godaddy.com, paid the extra money for a private registration for two of them. Never had phone calls. The last site we purchased, we didn't pay for the private registration. So all the information we have on that domain is now up for the whole world to see.

My husband has several sites registered with GoDaddy, and has for a few years, but this is the first call we've gotten. My husband wasn't home when they called, they just asked if "the guy who does the websites" was there. I said he wasn't available and could I take a message, but they said they'd try back later. Guess we won't answer!

Received a call from this number on my cell 10/10/07 @ 10:46am. I don't know why they called because no one was on the other end of the line when I answered.

They're still at it as of 10-08-2007. I missed the call to my cell phone, but looked it up on the web when I noticed and found this site. This happened about a week after registering a new domain (at a registrar other than godaddy). I like another poster's idea of asking them for an address to send a bill for cell minutes to and will likely do that if they call again.

Seems to be a problem with GoDaddy and their breach of information. It is hard, but not unimaginable to believe that they would sell their member info. I guess you have to pay their data extortion fee to protect your data.

This number has called me twice and I haven't answered. They haven't left any messages. I recently just bought a new domain at godaddy and from the looks of it they sold my mobile number.

Update on previous post. Be aware they will call not only toll lines but they will call toll free lines. This irritates me because I have to pay everytime they call me to try and sell me something.

It is APlus.net. I think they get numbers off of your web site and not just off the whois from your domain. All of my domains are public to create a more formal business presence but I am sure they got our business phone off our site since they called our Customer Service department and not our Technical/Domain department.

i called back 4 minutes later and asked who it was that called me and a guy goes "uhh.. not sure sir, we have about 400 people working in this company".. and he did mention it was some webhost somethn etc.. i was thinkin its either homestead.com or yahoo.com.

im sure this is what we get for not paying extra for that whois b.s.

Called my cell phone to confirm an order for a business website. This is rediculous, I did have a godaddy.com account over three years ago. I don't want have anything to do with this company for selling my cell phone numer to some one else.

Since Go daddy sells web hosting services (and very good ones, IMHO), I sincerely doubt that they'd sell information to another web hosting service provider, especially one as cheezy as this one.

Have received repeated calls from this number and am not even with GoDaddy.com. Don't understand why they are even trying.

I received 3 calls from them none of which picked up I use a grandcentral.com number for domain names so they never made it through that system. I did recent purchase things from GoDaddy Hosting.

These people have been calling my cell phone as well... but it is not GoDaddy.com's fault... when you look up a whois web address such as "whois YOURDOMAINNAME.com" on google you are able to find out all of the persons registration information including your number you registered with. I just though you should know... no need to bash godaddy.com. because I dont even have a domain through godaddy.com mine is through someone else.

Here is some important information. #1 - If they are calling your Mobile Phone with an automated dialer, you don't have to be on the Do Not Call registry.

#2 - If you want to let APLUS.NET how you feel about their practices, Ken Thompson is the Call Center Director and can be reached at: 913-890-7700 Ext. 6980 but you probably won't get any further than I did, so do the same thing I did:

Call the FCC (1-888-225-5322) and file a complaint. Mr. Thompson told me that they had no way of knowing it was a mobile number, but the FCC Said otherwise and forwarded a detailed version of my complaint to the Enforcement division, so I urge anyone getting calls from APLUS.NET on their cell phone to call and file a complaint. Mr. Thompson also admitted to getting contact information from WHOIS Listings, which is a violation of the Terms and Service for many WHOIS Services. Mr. Thompson refused to tell me which services they use and called it irrelevant, but here is the TERMS OF USE from Whois.org:

"TERMS OF USE: You are not authorized to access or query our Whois
database through the use of electronic processes that are high-volume and
automated except as reasonably necessary to register domain names or
modify existing registrations;"

I want to reiterate that this is not GoDaddy's fault. Also, by federal FCC Regulations it is illegal for APlus.NET to be calling your cell phone with automated dialers. I urge EVERYONE receiving these calls to report to the FCC. The more people that report, the more likely it is the appropriate action will be taken and they will be held accountable. We buy domain names from Go Daddy and hosting services from Bizland.com and Tripod.com and Aplus.net. Our conclusion is that Bizland is best, but Aplus still calls trying to sell us hosting not comprehending we have been a customer of theirs for years (we are phasing them out and going with Bizland only).

i got a call from this number just now. the number's not in my phone book so i didn't pick up. they didn't leave a message though. i googled the # and found this site. i too have a domain registered at godaddy. are they selling my info then? sheesh! am so reporting this to fcc.

I also received a call on my cell (Canada) from this number. Looked like someone trying to sell me something so I didn't answer - no VM message left. Lie others, I register domains with godaddy.

GoDaddy has nothing to do with these phone calls, other than the public registration that you have chosen for your domain names. Why would GoDaddy sell your phone number to a hosting company when they sell hosting themselves? Doesn't make much sense. Get privacy on your domain names!

Haven't had a website with them in over a year now. They called, I said "Hello?", and I think I heard someone else mutter "Hello?" on the other end, but it was muffled. They hung up after 5 seconds.

DON'T BLAME YOUR REGISTRAR. That's just ignorant. If you don't hide your info through a privacy feature or obfuscation service, then your phone number is readily available via WHOIS as part of your domain info. Check it for yourself.

Apparently these guys call anyone and everyone. The president of a company for which I am a consultant got a call on his cell phone from these guys asking for me. I do the IT work; he does not. They were insistent. The pres. responded, "No one here by that name."

If Godaddy calls you, they'll say, "hi this is ___ from Godaddy", so no, this is not Godaddy Calling

NEWS FLASH TO ALL YOU SAVVY WHINY BABIES: There is something called a WhoiIs record that comes naturally with every domain... your PERSONAL info goes live on these whoIS databases when you buy a domain, this is not Godaddy's idea. Anyone can can get this information, it is not up to Godaddy to hide this information, (although GD gives this option if you want to pay for it) this is YOUR responsibility!

You can turn them in to the FCC. I think they get fined $5,000.00 for each violation. You can supply up to 4 dates and times that they contacted you.

BTW, I am not irritated with GoDaddy about this at all. They are getting the info from whois, not GoDaddy. I have been using go daddy for years and am very pleased with them

I registered with godaddy a month ago and have been called two times so far.

When my cell phone first rang, I immediately went online and skimmed through this page and decided to let it ring. I do have GoDaddy hosting TRACKjams.com. Oh also, I do remember a couple months or so ago, A Plus Hosting called me but I immediately said not interested.

I registered a new name through GODADDY.com today a couple of hours ago. I have other names registered with them and this is the first time I got a call like this.

I PAID EXTRA FOR THE PRIVACY OPTION and still got a phone call....so apparently that doesn't help. I am very irritated with godaddy for this. I keep my phone number private for a reason.

They called me again! this time from a different number and it's the same Aplus people trying to offer my hosting.

I got a phone call today from these people after I registered from Godaddy.com a week ago. I changed the number to some random number which turns out to be someones fax machine. Good Riddance.

Called and rang only twice before they hung up. I didn't answer. Don't know who it is. No message at all.

you'll see (in the comments) that someone contacted A-Plus.net corporate offices, and they admitted to harvesting phone numbers from the WhoIs database.
As a long-time, happy GoDaddy customer I just wanted to point that out. GoDaddy is (most likely) NOT selling your numbers. Any info you provide for the domain registration is publicly viewable in the WhoIs and you are told this when you register.
Please put the blame where it belongs, on A-Plus.net (a GoDaddy competitor nonetheless), and file your complaints accordingly (good info on filing complaints at the link above, too.)

I too register a web address with GoDaddy. I called both GoDaddy, and A.plus.net & both DENIED selling my phone info. I would suggest NOT going with go daddy if you want your privacy kept. It's too much of a coincidence. I do not recieve junk calls often, so this was easy to trace back to the source.

They just called my cell phone also. I terminated my hosting plan with them and now they are still calling me for no apparent reason. By the way Go Daddy is worse than Aplus, their support is horrible. APlus is just not the best deal, although they actually have trained staff unlike Go Daddy.

Be careful when jumping to conclusions about GoDaddy. GoDaddy specifically states that it will not sell / give out your information. APLUS.NET admitted to harvesting numbers from Whois information, which GoDaddy cannot control, but read my prior post for information about Whois database terms and service.

Just received a call from them no more than ive minutes ago. Didn't recognize the number, so i let it roll to voice mail. The only way they could have got the number was from WHOIS, so they're in voliation of federal law.

Here is some important information. #1 - If they are calling your Mobile Phone with an automated dialer, you don't have to be on the Do Not Call registry.

#2 - If you want to let APLUS.NET how you feel about their practices, Ken Thompson is the Call Center Director and can be reached at: 913-890-7700 Ext. 6980 but you probably won't get any further than I did, so do the same thing I did:

Call the FCC (1-888-225-5322) and file a complaint. Mr. Thompson told me that they had no way of knowing it was a mobile number, but the FCC Said otherwise and forwarded a detailed version of my complaint to the Enforcement division, so I urge anyone getting calls from APLUS.NET on their cell phone to call and file a complaint. Mr. Thompson also admitted to getting contact information from WHOIS Listings, which is a violation of the Terms and Service for many WHOIS Services. Mr. Thompson refused to tell me which services they use and called it irrelevant, but here is the TERMS OF USE from Whois.org:

"TERMS OF USE: You are not authorized to access or query our Whois
database through the use of electronic processes that are high-volume and
automated except as reasonably necessary to register domain names or
modify existing registrations;"

I dont answer ANY calls on my cell from toll free numbers. Period. General rule is: If it's really important, unknown callers will leave a message. Just retrieve the msg using a landline.

Just found this site after doing a Yahoo search on the number 877-577-0877. I too got a call on my cell, they left no message. And as almost everyone has said here, I too have many websites hosted by GoDaddy. Obviously some connection, not sure what though (if they are selling non-private information or what). I have been with GoDaddy for quite some time... and love their service. No complaints.

I got a call today a little after 1pm. I didn't answer but they didn't leave a message. I'm not sure how they got my current cell number. I registered all my domains and hosting with my old number (got it changed about 8 months ago but never updated my information. I also use a number that I currently don't use either (I still have the number activated). Strange they didn't call that. I am tempted to pick up if the call back and saying "fuck off" in the phone and hanging up.

If they get you on your cell phone like they did me, tell them they are violating FCC/Federal Law and you are going to file a complaint.

Second time the called me. They claimed that a guy named joe mastereilny from toronto has my number on file. I told them I had no clue who he is, and the guy kept asking me to tell joe that he called. I flipped out, saying I had no clue who he was. This guy was a weirdo. He hung up on me.

This company's messed up. I'm calling back and speaking with a supervisor.

got a call from this number on my mobile, and like others, had recently registered a new domain on Godaddy. i do not answer calls from numbers unfamiliar. i did file a copmlaint with the FCC. Just send an email to fccinfo@fcc.gov and tell them all about it. you do not have to be on the do not call registry to file a complaint. it is illegal for APLUS.NET to use an automatic dialer to spam telephone numbers, period. so GO GET'M!

Well here's an oddity, I just got a call from this number (I too have sites hosted with GoDaddy) and the salesman asked to speak with "The person in charge of the website". Here's where it gets weird, When I asked "Which website?" he responded with the name of the website I work for, but do not own. Very strange!

Recieved call, no said anything. I don't know if the fact that I regirstered a domain name recently with GoDaddy has anything to do with it.

I knew that GoDady are assholes. Not only are they selling your personal info, but also scamming you with ridiculous servises. When you look for a domain name on there web site, if the name is taken you will see a message "Find out how to get this name" Than they will set you back with 50 bucks in exchange to a computer generated estimate that the domain name you are looking for would cost $3000-9000 and how many letters and words the name contains.

I went to APlus.net and complimented them on their failing calling campaign! I may have done business with them had one of there reps not snipped at me and then hung up on me!

Received a call from this number 877-577-0877 and I answered it as my cell is used in my daily business and I get call from all around the globe from people staying here in the winter homes. But this call was for increasing traffic to my web site and I asked which one and they could not identify any one of the 6 sites I have running. And I am listed of the federal government do not call list. Wasting my time and my resources.

I happen to have Vonage phone service - so it keeps track of when the calls came in. I got a phone call on 1/9/07 - they didn't leave a message. On 1/12/07 - they called twice...and they left a message...if you could call it that! "If you are interested in more information...please call.."

Also a recent Godaddy customer for domain name and hosting. Didn't pick up the phone just hung up on them. Then did a search and found this website. great minds think alike!

Addendum:

I should have read ALL the posts. As Geoff said, Aplus looks at the domain registration records and gets your number there. Perhaps godaddy has some agreement with them and makes it convenient for them to browse these records. Apologies to any registrar execs whose feelings i might have hurt.

I purchased a domain name from godaddy.com about a month ago. I picked up when they phoned but no one answered. Thank you for selling my cell number godaddy. I'll take my business elsewhere next time.

By reading the comments, the company trolls new domain registrations and calls the technical contact on the Whois record. If you use your cell phone as your tech-contact number, they'll call you to sell hosting services.

Called my cell on Jan 4. Connection was terrible (Cingular, BTW) and could not start a conversation. Ended up playing a recorded sales pitch.

It's aplus.net, a webhosting company with a very poor track record (I used to be an unsatisfied customer, too), and they're engaging in cold-calling people for business. LAME.

Called my cell and I didn't answer. The only calls I get on this phone are family members and people trying to sell me services related to the domain names I have registered. When I saw the 877 number I figured that is what it was. I was right.

I called them and asked them to remove my number permanently from their database. I spoke to a guy named Larry. I hate this crap! The call just came up as the phone number. When i received the call i got no response from the caller, only a dial tone after a few seconds.
