Verbal cease-comms are routinely ignored by collectors. USPS Certified makes them stick. What "dkgail" described three years ago was indeed illegal, trying to shame the alleged debtor by calling a workplace and leaving a detailed message anyone else could hear.
If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. They call a couple times a day with a few minutes in between calls.
I called today and asked them to take my number off their list.
They are calling my call phone number.
I have NO debt, have a great credit rating so they are not calling me for anything like that.
Argh.
This phone number (866-837-4889 toll free) called my home this morning at 8:38 a.m. I do not have any debts and I just left it ring. Wonder how they have my phone number?????? Who is selling my number to different companies????? I am sick and tired of these sort of calls and want them to stop immediately!!!!!!!
They call, do not leave a message. This is approximately the 8 or 9th collection agency to have called me looking to collect on another persons debt. Each agency that has called is informed that this is the wrong telephone number and to stop calling me. A few weeks later they sell this debt to a different collection agency and I go through the rigamaro again. I just wish that they would pass the information on to the next company to buy this debt that this is not the phone number for thier debtor. I would hate to have to change my cell phone number because of this. I inform each agency that has called that I am not their debtor and if they call me again they will be in violation of the fair trade practices act and I will file a report with the Federal Trade Commision - this usuallly stops the phone calls until they sell the debt to another company.
Yes it is a collection agency. Yes they are legit. Yes they use horrible tactics. They buy bad debt for pennies on the dollar then call every single person they can find with that name (or close to it). SOMEONE will end up giving up the $$$$ to them. THAT is how they make money.
Bottom line.... If you don't owe any money just erase the message or report them to the FCC.
If you owe money, Buck up, be "A Man" and pay what you owe. If you can't then file for BK.
Collection agency. Called a business number. Left a message in a voicemail box for an employee that several employees pull messages from. Was very threatening, very personal. I have it on tape at work. I hope the person decides to contact the proper authorities as the voicemail box says it is a "general" voicemail that messages will be pulled from and forwarded. He was aware that it was not the person's message box. Isn't that a violation?
scum.
