Report a phone call from 8667468640
How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

Sierra Club and BofA might have been other 800-Service numbers. I can't be certain of that now that I know 800-Service is an automated software, application service. See: 800-Service.com
Contacted 800-Service and sent a message to customer support with this page linked, asking them if they could "unplug" the number, or who to report harassment calls to.
I get this frequently in spurts. One time they said they were Bank of America, another time they were the Sierra Club. The scary thing is they knew my husband's nickname. Most of the other times were hang-ups. Sounds like a sicko who has access to some database??! My husband thinks its the Republican party - "Watergate!" "The Plumbers" are back! I think it's a sicko/hacker, or a sicko who has purchased the use of this service.
What to do???
Came up "toll free call" on the caller ID. Didn't leave a message as usual.
They would not talk!!I could tell it sounded fishy so all I said was what's up - They hung up-
this time ARNOLD did not call. sigh. it is, however, another annoying political recording. this time it sounded like an ad for board of education voting.
if that's correct, you'd think the person speaking would sound coherent. in the partial message recorded by my voice mail, the person attempting to tell me something important sounded drunk.
I just received a call and googled it to find this site. I called my phone company, Verizon, and they cannot block 800#s just like Qwest. The good news is they have a link on their website to a service that does block 800#s called IOBI. First month is free, then $7.94 a month, but the lady said that most companies autodialers will drop your number if it is blocked during that first month then you could cancel if you wanted to. That was nice of her to mention I thought. My whole neighborhood has been complaining about hang-up calls lately. I am glad to solve the mystery.
They call often. I never answer. if you call the number back, they give you the option on not getting more calls.
The Caller ID said
Unknown name
866-746-8640
A recording on our recorder of Senator John Edwards inviting us to a local fund raiser of his.
3 calls tonight... nobody there! I get the 'exempt political' message too. Grrr.
I received 866-746-8640 calls Feb 21 at 7:34p
Feb 22, at 6:26p and 7:16p. I just lifted up the receiver without speaking and hung up again. Since I said nothing, it seems not to have triggered the message. The phones remained on dead air. Very aggravating. philpav@aol.com
They hung up when I answered. I have received a few calls in the past from these bozos.
None. Just hangs up when I answer. I get 2-3 calls each day from this number. Very annoying and costing me $...
Called, no message left
Received this call at 10:20pm. Message purported to be from the Washington State Democratic Party (We live in Massachusetts... 3 hours later, time zone wise). Called the number they left (877-336-7492) and spoke to a nice woman at the Democratic party office who assured me they weren't the ones making the calls. Seems the GOP supporters are making a lot of these calls to make it look like Democrats are being obnoxious.
When I *69ed to get the number of the incoming call, it was this one (not the one given on the message). Tried calling that, but got a message saying they were exempt from Do Not Call, and saying I could leave my number (yeah, right) to be removed.
Vexing, especially considering the late hour of the call.
They just called and hung up when I answered.
Answered phone. No one speaks but heavy breathing and noise in background. I hung up. "Lord give us grace to live among the mischievous and obnoxious beings".
The calls we are getting claim to be from a local democratic canidate, though they don't say who they're paid for by. An area paper claims the republican party is behind the harrassing calls and I live in a very RED state.
Political Campaign ad for Michael Mauro who is running for secretary of state of Iowa
Call from Judy Hanna at 10 p.m. EST. Another candidate illegally calling people after hours. Go to Hell with your campaign Judy!
Received a call-- political recording. Hung up. Same call again 20 minutes later.
political bullshit
RECEIVED CALL today at 2:40 PM left no message, received call 10/30 @ 1:50 answered, caller hung up
calling system hung up after I answered.
I let the call go to voicemail. Voicemail was a recorded message from Pat McGowan (Hennepin County, MN Sheriff) promoting Mike Freeman's campaign for Hennepin County Attorney.
I think it's a telemarketer that isn't doin their job. I got a call from this number and I heard a footbal game on a TV and I heard two people talking about black people. I really wish I could call and hang and keep doing that to mess with them.
I am receiving 20 calls per day from this number :-(
To try to stop it, I wrote the FTC, FCC, and called the DNC (it appears they are a lead candidate as being the calls' source).
Suggest anyone with this problem copy/edit my emails (below), and shower the FCC/FTC with this info.
"I am receiving ~20 "abandoned" calls per day from 866-746-8640.
No one is there when I answer. If my answering machine picks up, an empty message is left.
I am one of many consumers with an 866-746-8640 problem.
This was confirmed by my phone company (Qwest) and a Google search.
When calling 866-746-8640, an automated message claims that this is a political autodialer and therefore exempt from the do-not-call list (which I am on). It is not possible to confirm this exemption since there is no way to speak to a live person. The message states that I can remove myself from the calling list... which I did... but this has not stopped the calls.
Per Qwest, it is not possible to block this number b/c it is from out of their local service area.
Regardless of whether the caller is commercial or political, it cannot be legal to make 20 "abandoned" calls per day to my number. Cf. Telecommunications act of 1984.
I originally sent this email to the FTC (if it's a non-exempt caller), but perhaps this is an FCC issue. On behalf of myself and many others receiving these abandoned calls, thanks for your attention to this."
just dead air or it hangs up
I received the call twice and I decided to foward this number to a crazy fowarding number. Nice feature provided by Lingo Voip provider.
I received a call from 866-746-8640 this morning. When I decided not to identify myself, the guy at the other end just hung up. I guess the guy is CRAZY.
Answered phone around 8:15pm and they just hung up. This second tele-Idon'tknow call I've recieved today.
I am sick of these phone calls. I will pay to sue the pants off this company. Its harassment.
Another call. I will never answer these.
received call 10/12, 2:26 pm, no message
Michigan Democratic Party, left 43 second message.
Caller ID says "Toll Free," answering machine pick it up, they did not leave a message
"Tollfree number" on ID. Nobody on line. One hour later three calls with number blocked. On the last call I waited long enough to hang up on the guy when he finally said "Hello."
10/10/2006
Bill Clinton election endorsement
Same as the rest, a "politial" message, exempt from the "do not call". If I find out who the campaign is for, they will certainly lose my vote!
Averageing 8 times a day. They just hang up weather I answer or the answering machine answer.
we've recieved 17 calls in the last 2 days and always the phone is dead if we answer it. I see a lot of people in my area (va) are recieving them.
I have received 13 calls from this number over the last 3 days. All but one time, the phone hung up after I answered. One time, I heard a faint voice laughing before it hung up. I dialed back and received the same message as Peter Ruscitto noted on Aug 22. Leaving my number did not cease the calls.
Five calls from this number yesterday, just received number four today. These are the first two days I've bothered counting, but they've been calling daily for weeks now. Shows up on Caller ID as "800 Service". Nothing on the other end when answered, it simply hangs up. Called it back three times, "political call," entered our phone number to be removed from the list- obviously, this doesn't work. HOW OBNOXIOUS!!!!
We get several phone calls a day from this number. When we answer the phone, they just hang up.
It is annoying and intrusive.
Four 866-746-8640 calls received this afternoon (Oct. 7, 2006). No one responds and the phone clicks off.
Have received 9 calls from this # today and my dad finally answered and said Hello, and the guy just kept saying my name over & over and then he hung up. Very Weird!
They called three or four times this morning. It is the same thing every time and is very annoying: just a hang-up. It wouldn't be so bad if I at least had the satisfaction of verbally ruining someone's day.
Get calls from this number almost daily; I never pick up since my ID screen says name is unavailable in which case, so am I! They never leave a message.
Rhode Island, Called On Sunday, 2:43 p.m.
No one there, no message, no ID other than number.
I recieved the same message as Peter Ruscitto.
I answered and a recording started about high taxes, so I just hung up.
Just received another call from that number. Hung up when I picked up. I dialed back and received a message that it was a political call and therefore exempt. Was given the option to have my number removed by entering it on my key pad. That apparently will cease all future calls. We'll see.
Hung up when phone answered.
They just hang up. Don't leave a message.
