To all who say to "Pay your bills and quit complaining". I just got a new cell phone and number and they started as soon as I got the phone charged up 3 days ago. These calls aren't for me. Sometimes it is an innocent person getting harassed because someone didn't pay their bills. I will be trying to get off of their dialing list as none of these calls are for me or anyone in my household. I don't want some collection agency calling my phone all day long. I have already called 2 different places today to tell them that they have the wrong number and they said to expect other callers from what they were seeing with these peoples account. SO I now have to do a lot of foot work just to have a phone that doesn't ring every 5 minutes.

Victim: I also advocate individual action over waiting for a rescuer. However, we can't ''get a lawyer and sue them'' if we take your contradictory advice of blocking and ignoring collection calls. Either we gather evidence of violations and deal with the problem directly, or we huddle in a trench and hope the shelling stops.

A high volume collector like AI has many phone numbers to throw at your few, and their autodialers don't need coffee breaks or sick days. Sooner or later they will misuse their favored weapon, the telephone, and they will hand over legal ammo to fire against them. This does not mean every call must be answered, but everything they say and do should be monitored and studied carefully, then documented. That's a more constructive place to put one's frustration than rants against elected officials and regulatory process.

You are fools if you think the FTC and the Do Not Call program accepts indivudal complaints. It is a joke they play on us. Get a lawyer and sue them. Your corrupt congressman get his election contributions from these collection agencies so they will ignore anything you say. first of all you need to know who allows this type of treatment. Yes it is your congressman who voted to allow this. Call them and they say they can't do anythong. Which is a lie, they just want their election contributions. I email call my congressman regularly. Tell them you will not vote for them again and will pass the word around. The Do Not Call list is for telemarketers only. And as I said they do not investigate individual complaints nor does the FTC. I know they have forms to fill out. But that is trick and of no use. If congress is against you you do not have a chance. They make the laws. I get 70 to 80 calls a month from debt collectors. I owe no one any money and never have. They still continue to call. Never answer the phone or call them back. Buy phones with call block feaTURES AND SWITCH TO PHONE COMPANIES THAT HAVE CALL BLOCK. some cell phones allow you to select a separte ring for an individual. Select silent mode yfor these callers.

They call both my house and cellphone all hours, about 20 times a day. Only one time they identified themselves from capital one. I told them I dont have any account with them and asked them to stop calling. It still keeps going. I just filed with the FTC and am going to see about call blocking on both numbers. After reading this, am hoping that this company allied interstate is taken down hard for their illegal activities.

You don't need a valid debt or a derogatory trade line on your credit reports to be hassled by debt collectors. They call third parties to alleged debtors all the time for permitted skip tracing purposes, or at times pretending it's a trace to annoy and shame the intended target. When skip tracing, debt collectors must answer to privacy regs within the FDCPA, hence the obfuscation. Of course, being shadowy works in their favor to make call targets anxious.

they call several times a day, every day and never leave a message. I have no debts, so there is no reason to call. Plus, why wouldn't they leave a message if they really think they have a good reason for calling?

called from this number really annoying me for no reasons! When I pick up the phone and say hello..nobody is on the other end and holding phone for for few second and again ask, but in vain. This is public nuisance and I am finding a way to fix it.

Almost forgot, Allied Interstate has been quite busy hustling and shaking down the populace recently if the uptick in complaints and reports to WCU can be a gauge. Seems this month they racked up quite a stiff bill, the second largest for the debt industry, for chronic violation of the FDCPA. I guess they figure they should pay their bill with your money instead of theirs.

Dave, your legal pal gave the same advice I would have. A paper trail of communication should keep collectors honest, and if not you have an instant weapon to use against them in those receipts and notice copies. I'm pretty sure the FTC does not expect you to keep sending cease-comms every time the collector changes phone numbers. If you are contacted against your stated wishes with anything other than "understood, will comply", that's a violation. Collectors have no room for "oopsies" under FDCPA; "bona fide error" does not wash. Otherwise the cease-comm would be useless and the alleged debtor would never find relief. If you would like a check in your name for a grand you may have a good case.

Ok, did some checking with an attorney friend. Only way to stop these calls is to send a CERTIFIED LETTER/RETURN RECEIPT demanding they stop calling. So.. I sent a certified letter/return receipt.. still I get calls but now they use a different phone number than in the past. My attorney friend told me they should stop the calls, but since they keep changing phone numbers they can claim being sent from different location in error. There is no stopping this! The Allied Collections is a company used by Capitol One. If you ever got a Capitol One 'you are approved for $300.00 limit' notice in the mail and called just to check it out.. guess what.. you now owe them money because they charged the $35.00 or whatever amount to open the credit card yearly fee. Does not matter that you NEVER actually used the card for a purchase or even received the card.. you were billed! That's how Capitol One works! Plus, don't ever get your car financed with Capitol One Auto Loans! They will never, ever refinance or drop your interest rate and their rate is like 18% or more! Just try to ignore the call and have a glass of wine!

Will not leave message on answering machine, hangs up. Also, they call right at 8:58pm so they dont break the 8:30-9pm rules!

Huge Hoax pretending to be Waste Management - 866-526-7796 this number is asking people to report to WM offsite area where Bus is waiting! This is not Waste Management do not fall for this, if they call again report a number to your local law enforcement.

I answer the phone and they hang up without saying anything. I have no debt for them to be calling me about. My bills are paid when I receive them.

Here is the alternative number they use to the 866 number- 800-294-7691. As with the 866 number, when they answer, some will pickup and just say "Hello" and others will say "Allied Interstate." Call them back successive times and hangup in their face after you hear them make their announcement and you will see what I mean.

It is Allied Interstate. If you block their calls, they will use a different 800 number for awhile. If you block it also, after awhile a local set of goons starts to call you from various local cell phone numbers. If you don't answer, they listen to your voicemail and then hangup. They must be reporting back to the main office that the your phone number is still good despite the calls being blocked- so the cycle continues. Been watching it for the last 4 months now since the shit started happening about 9 months ago. Funny, I told them the first 3 times that I don't owe anybody anything and to please take me off the list but they don't seem to get it- so F**K them.

They just began to call my cell phone on Monday morning 5/17 and there have been half a dozen calls in just 24 hours. I can't block them from my particular phone, and I don't appreciate their calls using my airtime.

Been calling my number for several days now.. no messages.. got letter in mail trying to collect money owed on my capital one account. My account has been closed for a while. Maybe this is why they are wanting to collect the balance now. I have not been late on payment go figure. Funny they do not want you to send them the money though.. I sent in what was owed and told Capital One what they could do with that money! . So when someone asks what in you wallet I say it sure the hell isn"t capital One!!

I get several calls from this number on my cell phone daily!! Usually 6 calls ( 2 times back to back w/in minutes of each other 3 times a day) I answer and NEVER anyone there. I want to stop the calls, but unable to get someone to speak and I'm tired of it. I feel like my cell phone is hostage to this number. It has to be some scam in regards to gaining info....or having you call them back to gain info. If it is Capital One, my card carries no balance so that's makes no sense, if it's a collection company, I have no debt, so that's ruled out.....Wanted to check in to see what other complaints have been. I will not answer anymore.....I've done my due diligence to figure out who it is or what they want...to no avail. No longer answering I am hoping eventually it will go away......or find a way to make it stop through legal means.

They replied "for Capital One Credit Card Servives." I told them I don't have a Capital One Card and they say to tell "*^%#$&*a" to call us ASAP! Thank you Rebecca for your information. I have answered this call in the past and they ask for who I'm assuming is my brother in law who doesn't even live in this area, and has NEVER lived with us. I called them back today asking what they wanted and they asked for my Capitol One account number, which I don't have one. Again they are looking for "Charles". I just tell them I don't know any Charles. I will contact the Texas AG's office about this. It's really getting on my nerves.

Update - I have filed a complaint with the Michigan Attorney Generals office regarding this number. To those of you who have confirmed this is a collection agency I do not believe this is true. Beware - Collection agencies usually like to get someone on the line when they call and do not hang up on you. Collection agencies will leave a message. Collection agencies do not need your account number to tell you why they are calling. Capitol One may be affiliated with the Allied Intersta as mentioned by someone below but this caller does not necessarily belong to Allied either. Capitol One confirmed to me this is not their number and there was no reason for me to be getting a call. Every nature of this call is suspicious. Obviously if they call you they can't then ask for your account number and they have to get you to call them back. This is why they hang up on you! If you have complaints about this number please take a half hour and file a complaint with your attorney general office.

Received several hang ups and when I got fed up I called them back. They claimed they were capitol one and asked for my account number. I refused to give it to them and they told me they could not help me unless I gave my acct #. A real business could tell you something by name, address, phone etc. Then I called capitol one to report the fraud or poor business practice if it was their number. Capitol one confirmed their was no reason for me to be getting a phone call from them and also confirmed this is not one of their numbers. Unfortunately they don't care enough about their customers to do anything about it. I will further report this number to the FTC or police dept if I have to. It is ridiculous that this phone number/thief has not been shut down yet and so many people are reporting it. No wonder our country has such a huge problem with identity theft.

I have been receiving calls from them for the past week, they always hang up when I answer. I called them back and they asked for my brother, who has a different last name than I do and has never lived here. I've only had my current number for 4 months, so they must have done a smidge of digging.

I have been getting harassed by this number 3-4 times a day for a month now. They call and don't say anything when I picked up. After researching the number, I can say with certainty that it IS Allied Interstate. I spoke with Capital One and asked if they were affiliated, and the answer was YES. They are a third-party affiliate of Capital One; they perform debt collection services. The representative at Capital One confirmed that I am wrongly on the calling list and the rep said she would send a notification to Allied Interstate. I stated that I was extremely disappointed;this company has a horrible reputation for harassment and unfair debt collection practices, and they should not use them as a service. Capital One's main number is 1-800-955-7070.

I got a new prepaid cell phone, it was activated for less than 15 minutes when this call showed up! I will NOT be pleased if I got the number of someone that the collection agency's are hounding!!

We received a call. After the 3rd ring, I answered and they hung up. My husband immediately called back wanting to know who they were and why were they calling on a Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. The lady on the other end of the line would not directly answer his questions, but said that she needed our Capital One Bank Credit card number as well as his social security, date of birth and after she got that information she would tell him why they were calling. BE AWARE ALL OF YOU OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!! This is obviously a scam... a phishing expedition. I so happen to be an employee of Capital One Bank and these people prey on the elderly. The elderly are such trusting people that they will try to help and think they are by giving this information to anyone over the phone... especially if they have an account with us. Next thing you know, either their bank account gets wiped out, they credit card gets maxed, or both. PLEASE do not give out any of your personal information over the phone. Any reputable institution would NEVER ask for this over the phone. If you have any questions, call your bank, call the number on the back of your credit cards and if you have that uneasy feeling, HANG UP. When my husband threatened to report them to the police, she hung up on him.

These people keep calling and hanging up whether they reach my answering maching or whether I answer. I want them to stop and I want to know what to do about it. This is harassment. I have no unpaid uncollected debts.

I got a notice of a missed call from this number. When I called back in the evening there was no answer. On a reverse phone look up it showed it was a landline. When I called on a Friday afternoon, a man anwsered and asked for my Capital One 16 digit account number, but my account has been closed for several years.... THIS MAY BE A PHISHER PHONE LINE!

Received several calls from them, finally decided to pick up. The caller requested to speak with my son, and I told him that he did not live here. I asked who was calling and if I could relay a message for him. He identified himself as "Mark". I asked what company he was affiliated with (knowing that it was not one of his friends) and he refused to tell me. He told me that "I just needed to tell him how to get in touch with my son". I told him, not unless he identified the company. He told me, "well you will just continue receiving the calls until you tell us!", and slammed down the phone. How rude!!!!! I am on the National Do No Call list and plan to file a complaint with them, as well as the FTC. This company is a scam!

Calling my mother-in-law looking for me 3 times a day now. She told them I don't live there and to stop calling. They said they'd take the number off their list but keep calling anyway. She has told them she is going to report them. Won't say who they are.

Called to confront them. They asked for my Capital One account number. Newflash!! Don't have one! Never had one! I asked what company they were and she said, "Allied International" which she reported is contracted by Capital One. She apologized and said she'd remove my number. This is highly doubtful because I've heard the same story from others within the same company. Told her I'd call Allied International every single day and hung up an equal number of times that they call me each day. Oh yeah, also filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. These people need to have enough reports that the feds see a trend and investigate their harassment and fraud.

Keep calling looking for "Harold". Told them wrong number and guy says "yeah right, Harold". Hung up on that cracker.

Call several times a day and don't leave a message in the machine. What gets me is they take you to court and they say "well, we tried to get in tough with the guy and he kept ignoring us". Leave a message, fucktards, and I'll call back to straighten this out. Sad thing is this number USED to belong to some old lady and as soon as I got this number, these clowns start calling me.

To date, I have gotten 20 calls from this number since Jan 31, 2009 and never answer. Six days ago I changed my recorded message to...

They still have kept calling my cell phone number. I have never given my cell phone number out to any business except for Sprint which is my carrier.

You would think that when they get the tones and the message that they would quit calling.

My cell phone is only used for data and outgoing calls and is on the National Do Not Call list... GO FIGURE!

So if thay like hearing that message they can just keep calling and calling and calling and calling and calling.... I am not answering!

I've been getting these calls since before Christmas. I answered 3. Told all of them I do not have a Capital One card nor do I plan on getting one so please stop calling. I get called 3 times a day. I can almost set my clock by them. I'm to the point of getting rid of my phone service.

Phone number but no message----I DO NOT answer these calls

I found the mother company, they are IQOR in Columbus, OH 43231 and told me that they are Allied Interstate. I called 1-800-811-4214 and requested that they remove me from calling list. They said they will have my name off the list within 48 hours. I also reported them to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at 1-877-382-4357 and suggest you do too as this will establish a pattern and then they will be sited and possibly fined. Good Luck

The person writing to this page who says that if you pay your bills you won't get called doesn't seem to realize that people WITHOUT any debts are getting called, over and over, and that's the problem.

After reading everyone else's comments, there is a prevailing theme - once this company gets your #, they don't quit calling regardless what you tell them or they say they're going to do (remove my # from their data base). The irony of it is that they are looking for my former daughter-in-law, but it doesn't seem to sink in that I have no idea how to get in touch with her and haven't had any contact in over 2 yrs. This morning, my husband got on the phone, yelled at them and told them we'd reported them to the FTC and was told that they would remove our #. Well, you guessed it, 2 hrs. later, they called again. I don't know if the FTC will take any action, but I'm hopeful that they will. They are obviously very dense and don't understand that I'm not who they are looking for and aren't going to get a penny from me!!! IDIOTS!!!

One of my observations I've had as it relates to my numerous verbal encounters w/ collector agency call representatives is that a lot of them are talk to you in that patronizing tone. Jesus, that really gets to me when they start talking to you in that condescending tone. They talk to you as if you don't have a Goddam clue as far as your current ongoing financial situation and all your bills goes. And they preach to you on what your responsibilities are suppose to be in terms of the individual debtor paying whatever debt he/she may have with a certain collector agency. God, that pisses me off. But I guess that's why collector agency reps are on one side of the telephone line, and us individual consumer debtors are on the other. To keep the shit from hitting the proverbial fan, figuratively speaking, of course.

As far as consumer debt goes. I wish Uncle Sam can do what they did with Wall Street & all these other banks with all those bad debts and bad mortgages gets rewarded with a $700 billion bailout. But if you're an average individual who's inundated with medical bills, credit card debt, student loan debt, home mortgages w/ ridiculous interest rates, etc. You got to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, you can't look to the government for help. And have to pay your own bills. As far as debt collector agency representatives goes, yeah. I have to confess, I've done my fair share of cursing them out. I know it accomplishes absolutely nothing, but I do get personal satisfaction & pleasure of doing so. Especially collector agency representatives who are calling from India, China, and other countries the crumbling credit card industry has outsourced their call center jobs to.

They call my cell phone 5-6 times per day. They called my brother in another state, claiming to be from a government agency looking for me. When I call back, they open the conversation with "Please tell me your Capital One card number." When this is declined, they are unable to even tell you who they called. They claim to be related to Capital One.

This number calls my computer not my regular phone and I have never given out that information for any account I have. I have had 5 calls in the last week ranging from 8:16am-5:35pm. Somebody made a comment below that us "deadbeats should pay our bills then they wouldn't call" but this is not a valid collection call because we do not owe anything.

Just got a phone call and their computer hung up on me. I called the number back and the answering machine answered Allied Interstate. A Google search says that they are a collection agency. It's interesting that they got my business phone - we don't owe anyone $$ that is past due.

This caller is persistent. They called at 8AM today and I thought someone had died....don't get calls this early! They didn't leave a message. We are on the Do Not Call list.

Calls a hundred times a day. I don't answer 800# calls. I figure if it's something really important they can always leave a message since I have an answering machine. But oh no! they don't leave any messages, yet they kept on calling to no end. It's already getting on my nerves. Sometimes I get tempted to answer their calls so I can yell at these people and cuss the #$%& out of them. If this is a collection agency from Capital One, I am always up to date with my payments. I was NEVER late with my payments with them at all!

These people seem immune to the regulations regarding consumer credit collection agencies. As most others say constant phoning and never leave a message. Answered once, asked them to not phone and to handle any communications via U.S. Mail. Calls continue. I've set my answering machine to answer their calls with a blank message. Every time they call a live person has to pick up the phone. Must cost them something. Just like their auto dialer, only reversed. EVERYONE should do the same if they can designate a specific message to a specific or group of callers. These people also call on 4/5 different #'s trying to annoy you. Speak to a qualified attorney. Put a smile on these collection jerks faces. Some attorneys take these cases on contingency basis cause you can collect a bundle, based on # of calls.

Call all hours of the day. Looking to sell their protection service to my son who is never home to recieve the call. Asked repeatedly to stop and told noone was interested.

I told her that we did not have an account with capitol one and to quit calling. she took our number, ostensibly to remove it from the computer, but the calls have continued. tonight, i answered the phone, and heard a message "all of our customer representatives are currently assisting other customers. Please continue holding and one of our representative will" and then it was interrupted by someone being connected by the computer. before they could say anything I asked them for their name. they said nothing, so I asked them for their name again, and a female voice said "shutup" and hung up. I called the number back and was greeted with "thank you for calling capitol one, this is tara, may I have your 10 digit capitol one account number?" I asked her name again, she graciously repeated it, and then I told her what had just taken place. I explained to her that we did NOT have a capitol one account, and we are on the federal don't call list, and (after giving her the number again) told her that if we received any more calls from this number we would be taking legal action.

It's a collection agency. They call me all the time and send letters to me in the mail constantly. That's why they don't wanna say who they are is because they cannot disclose the information.

I have been receiving calls from this number daily for months, all day & all night, several times a day. There is never a message if I allow my answering machine to pick up. If I pick up, there is never anyone there.

Allied wanted to talk to my husband. When I asked what this was in reference to, they (Pam w/ Allied Interstate) wouldn't tell me and wanted my name and asked for my phone number. They had just called me! Why did they need my phone number? I asked her to quit calling and she said that they would have to speak to my husband first. I finally got a supervisor (Jackie)and she said that she would try to remove my number from their list, but she wanted my name and phone number (didn't they just call me?)!

No Caller Id unidentifiable. calls periodically through the day. when i pick up to answer they hang up immediately... is becoming a anussance and hassle when i have other important incoming calls needed to be taken. this number/company needs to be dealt with appropriately...

they won't leave a message...I get calls but am not behind...don't know what's up

Called saying they need to take care of my DirecTv account, but I just checked and the account is current. They also asked what state I live in. Guess what? They have an FDCPA violation suit coming their way now!

one of two random numbers calling my phone asking to speak with someone named ryan, even tho i keep saying this is not ryan and u ave the wrong number and u keep making this mistake.. must have called me like 10 times at random hours, i ussually somehow always miss the call but its still the fact that im on some list that makes me mad. next time i have my phone and they call im going to start threatening that ill call the police for harassment

Apparently these people do not understand the words "You have the wrong number". Idiots!!!!
They have called my house 40 times over the past 2 days!! One more hang-up phone call from this number and filing an harrassment suit against them.
Can't block the number either as block service says the number is invalid - so how are these people calling on an invalid toll free number???

If you deadbeats paid your bills you wouldn't have a problem. Collection agencies can call you as many times as they want all the live long day. Pay your bills, problem solved.

They call 20-30 times a day and never leave a message. They've also started calling my cell phone.

Just called back and spoke with Chuck, he said he would try and get my number taken out of the system. 8 calls since I have been from work (4 hours) No capitol One account and no messages left.
I am not holding my breath that these calls will stop....

Collection Agency for Capital One ... they won't stop calling

These guys never stop calling yet never leave a single message. I did some research on this number, and this company is notorious for collecting debts that don't even exist. Beware!

They call all day!!!! they called at least 10 times one day and more, I just quit counting after that. They never leave a message either. I'm going to get with my attorney general next.

who are these guys? They are calling every 15 mins. - won/t leave a voicemail message - asking for my 20 yr old son who doesn't live here. What can I do to get rid of these guys?

I have paid for my number to be unlisted/unpublished and do not appreciate these constant calls.

They are so annoying..they call starting at 8am & end at 9pm. Call every hour! It really has to stop!

Allied Interstate is a collctn agency. Anyone receiving excessive calls from them have the right to file a complaint against them with your state attorny gen. there are legal regulating on the hours and the amount they call. the more complaints files, the more fines they will incure for not following collection regulations. Each state has laws to protect you...complain...

They call all the time with this number and at least one other and probably more. I have no debt with them. Have never had a Capital One acct. I have a feeling they are after a PAUL BLAIR, who has used my phone # to take out accts at video rental places and then the video rental calls ME wanting their video back. Uh huh, okay.

They have been calling CONSTANTLY, leave no messages. I finally answered & they asked for someone not even at this number, EVER! I told them & they called AGAIN 20 min later!!! I wasn't so kind the second time. What was really erie was, I just realized the female they were calling was the same name as a girl I went to school with 25 yrs ago & she died of a drug overdose 22 yrs ago.

this is a collection agency called allied interstate. They collect for Capital One. I know because I used to work for these bastards. They will constantly harass you unless you ask for a supervisor. They are located in Cambridge, ON Canada if you wanna go blow them up. lol

You guys who are getting the call I called the number back and it was a guy by the name of Shawn from Capital One. Everybody should call it!!!!

Just began calling me on my cell phone today at 8:02 am. I never recieved a call from this # before so i didnt pick up. They left a voicemail and when i listened to it, it was someone just breathing for abt 2 mins without saying anything and than the person hung up. I heard this was some sort of debt agency but it doesnt make sense seeing as im only 18 and i have no bills to pay other than my phone bill which i have never paid late.. so not sure what they want, hopefully they wont call again.
