It's amazing yet predictable how the pattern of rudeness is consistent in reports over three years apart. You will only get more calls, B. You need to make your demand in a simple written cease-comm and send it USPS Certified to however many collection agencies have pestered you in error. That rubs the Federal law in the collector's face, which you can sue over if calls continue. You might also work an abuse count into the case depending on the content of the calls.
All: If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. Just received a message from the number (11:00am EST Nov 27). Caller identified herself as from Capital Management. I called the number to request they never call again and to inform them that we do not know the person they are looking for and for whom we have been getting lots of similar calls from other companies like hers. (Ok, so I referred to them as bottom feeders!) The woman, Ann, promptly called me back to say she saw my number but she didn't understand the message. When I started to explain we don't know the person she got abusive, so I hung up.
I use phonetray by traysoft on my computer (used the free version for over 3 years and eventually bought it because it works so well). It answers these kinds of calls automatically and plays "this number has been disconnected" message. I rarely get called back by these kinds of callers.
left message to call capital management--i called back, she was looking for a woman i had never heard of. i asked why she called our number and she said she pulled my husband's phone # from his parents(he hasn't lived there for 10 years) and the woman was a past tenant at their rental property. i told her we had nothing to do with their business and she was extremely rude. i asked her not to call us back and she said "excuse me for interrupting your oh, so important day" and hung up on me
