Who Called Us

I get multiple hangup calls from this number and when I call back there is no anwser!

After months of recieving the calls, I finally answered figuring I would just let them say whatever it was they had to say and then ask to speak to a manager. I spnet 45 minutes on the phone with "Larry" who said I didnt have to give any information and would not be charged anything but would recieve a 200 gift card and 2 nights stay at certain hotels - the list was supposed to be over 2000 to chose from...that was nearly a month ago and i still have not revieved anything. When I try to call back the numbers he gave me to call with questions, it either rings to a fax machine or it is busy. On the plus side, since that conversation, they havent called again. Also, the card number they used had been put on hold a few months before that so they cant charge anything to it.

It has been reported that there are groups that ask certain specific questions that they expect the answer to be "yes". Once they have that single word recorded they can then edit it into a 'taped' conversation they say they had with you where you agreed to buy something or authorize some sort of a debit against your account. The best thing is to not say that single word unless it is to someone whose identity you know and whom you have some measure of trust for. If you have ever gotten a call and answered the phone with "Yes?" and the caller then hangs up I would check the credit card activity VERY often or even call the bank and so that you lost it in order to get everything transferred to a new account.

One thing I did several years ago was het a device called a 'TeleZapper'. What it does is when the phone is answered (picking up or answering machine) it sends out a tone burst of a specific frequency that is recognized by most (not all) computer dialers as belonging to a fax machine. The software in the dialing system then thinks that it is calling a fax machine and not a phone, causing it to check off your number from the list. In the past three years my telemarketing calls has gone from 50+/month to just a couple.

There is also a device out on the market that allows you to control who gets thru on your phone.
1) You can enter the phone numbers of people that you want to be able to ring thru
2) You can enter the numbers of phones that you want to be blocked and they will get an appropriate message
3) All the rest are answered by a voice mail message

I am considering getting one of these because I am now getting many more calls from political and charitable groups. Unfortunately since it was the politicians that wrote the Do-Not-Call law they of course left themselves a loophole.

Answer phone and the phone clicks off. calls at 12:14 pm CST and again at 2:16 pm CST. Happens everyday

Also calls from 866 407-5549 and 866 407-6264. They have called 9 times in the last 7 days, 4 times today. I told a guy to take me off the call list and he said "but I have to send you these gifts" and I told him do not call again to which he replied "mam, we WILL call until you accept the gifts" I hung up on him. He was true to his word.. They have called 5 times since then. I am on the do not call list. Most of the time they just hang up, but sometimes they ask for me by name. They also have my old credit card number. This is harrassment.

I missed this call so I called it back, only rings busy.

This call and many other numbers are from Capitol One credit card holders being atomatically Opted-In on third party phone solicitation.
To Opt-out go to the Capitol One website and click on “Privacy” at the bottom of the page, click on "Opt-Out Notice" for the .PDF. Call the toll free number in the document. An automated system will lead you through the process and fail several times. Call the number back. You will eventually get a Rep that may tell you that Opting-Out will cancel your card. Tell them you want to cancel the card and they will transfer you to another Rep who will kindly let you know that you can Opt-Out without cancelling the card. Write down the Rep's name and conformation number in case you need it in the future.

The caller doesn't speak. They hang on the line. I called the number back. I got a voice mail. The voice mail said, "You've reached the desk of Angela Numaderos....etc"

I have nine different numbers. I just don't answer any more.
