Caller ID showed UNKNOWN, I have gotten four calls from this number in the last three days. Their first call was answered AND NO ONE on the other end said anything they stayed on the line silent until I ended the call. So the next two times they called I didn't answer the phone but after the third call I phoned them back three times and the calls were hung up each time without anyone saying anything. Then on the fourth call my son answered the phone and they wanted to talk to one of our other sons about student loans. When my son told him my other son wasn't here the person on the phone starts trying to talk to the son who answered the phone about my other son student loans. So my son asked him isn't illegal for you to be discussing my brother's student loans with me at that point I hung up the phone, because the content of the conversation didn't jive with any of the comments I had read about this number.

Caller (strange accent) knew my address. Asked for my age then got "confirmation that I was a senior citizen", then wanted the name of my bank which was refused, then told me it was for some kind of medical card. Again refused to give info and ended call.

Called this number back -- it doesn't even ring.

2007-07-03 16:42:45 UTCmlt

I think I am going to answer the next time they call (and they WILL call)..I'm gonna have some fun with them...

2007-07-03 16:33:18 UTCmlt

I get a call from this number at least once a day on my cell. I never answer it. The message is always the same. It's a recording, and it's always "Jessica" with the Indian accent...

2007-06-22 02:09:14 UTCRebecca

Called at 7:15pm, no message. Ontario, 519 area code.

2007-06-16 00:49:52 UTCRebecca

Number showed up on my phone at exactly 8:00 pm, no message. Called back, a recording said 'this phone number is no longer in use.' I'm in Ontario, Canada.

2007-06-07 19:11:32 UTCLiz

I picked up the phone and after a clear delay a heavily accented voice asked for a name I couldn't recognize. When I stated they had a wrong number, the call did not disconnect until I disconnected it.

2007-06-06 21:15:32 UTCDI

I had a man and woman calling me six times in three days for a fax number on a doman name I had.

I gave them the Fax number for the FBI office in Atlanta, and I've never heard from them again.

Let the feds trace thier call since they have the power to go after them anyway.

I'm in the UK and was called by these people! I got a call from a withheld number, hung up, then they rang back showing this number: They claimed to be "the national reseller for Orange Mobile Phones" and that my number was selected and I'd won a free phone. I hung up straight away.

2007-01-30 17:11:47 UTCJ

It comes up as 800 Service. I've gotten them quite frequently lately. Usually there's no answer.

2007-01-07 11:08:21 UTCtommyboy

getting tired of these types of calls phone never stops ringing because of these stupid 800 number calls i mean give me a break

2006-11-11 08:41:02 UTClealea

we get 4-5 calls a day from this number, even though i am on the do not call registry and my number is unlisted.

at least 2-3 times there is no-one there, but other times someone with either an asian or indian accent tries to obtain personal financial information from me about my "mortgage."

once or twice they have identified themselves as "nationwide mortgage" but not always.

i have tried everything to get them to stop, from polite requests to profanity. once i asked them to provide me with the name, address, and phone number of their company, and they hung up, but the calls keep coming.

any ideas. i plan to contact my phone company (verizon) on monday and file a complaint against them and have the number blocked, what else can i do.

any ideas.

thanks

I get this number at my job ALL day long...I work for a doctor and it is SOOOO annoying...I answer and it is silence...they should not be allowed to do this!

2006-09-28 17:26:54 UTCJB

I get a similar messages to tohers in that when I call back they state they have an offer and if I don't want to be claled I should do x y & z. I'm changing my number. I have already had identity theft and have no guarantee that this is a scam and not just a pain in the butt marketer.

2006-09-20 23:43:51 UTCJohn

This is the 2nd call I received from these people. A woman with a slight Asian accent asked my name and confirmed that I owned a particular personal website. I said yes. She then said that she needed to verify my phone number (duh, she just called me!) and my fax number. When I asked her what company this was, she said Domain Registry Services. Coincidentally I had just transferred some domain names earlier in the day for a client, so I assumed that she was confirming that the transfers were legitimate. So I gave her my fax number. When I asked her if she was part of Network Solutions, she said in a very abrupt and nasty way that she had already told me that she was with Domain Registry Services. She told me that she had sent me an email some time ago telling me to expect her call. I knew then that somethng was amiss. Her abrupt manner and reluctance to take a moment to explain herself immediately made me suspicious. After she hung up I tried calling the number back and it does not ring, just hangs up. These guys are definitely scammers and so I looked up Google and found tons of articles on these guys. Anyone have an idea who we can notify to put an end to this scam?

2006-09-11 20:44:07 UTCDonna

Just got a call... Not sure where they got my number. But I have a website and some of you have mentioned domain names, so maybe that is it. No one answered... they hung up after a few seconds.

2006-09-10 23:53:28 UTCPEM

Another scum bag! I questioned the (Indian)woman about her company, letting her know I am on the DoNotCall list, she hang up on me! Rude intrusions are SO frustrating!

2006-09-06 00:06:52 UTCslickchick

Forgot to mention that today they called at 4:10 pm to 91320 zip code.

2006-09-06 00:04:43 UTCslickchick

I keep getting calls from this number so, today, I looked it up and found this site. Everytime I receive a call, I answer with my business prompt, "Thank you for calling XYZ, how may I help you?" Then they hang up. Well, after reading the info here, I decided the next time they call, I would just say, "Hello." I did not have to wait very long because 15 minutes after the first call, they called again and I simply said hello. They said they are from domain registry support and had questions about some domain name that expired a few years ago. I did not tell them that though and continued to play the game. When they asked for a fax number, I gave them their number (8663830986) The idiot on the other end just took it down and thanked me. IDIOT!!!

Next time, I think I will give the information for the White House and the FBI.

He got my number from my website. He had a very heavy middle eastern accent and said it had to do with changes on internet accounts. He wanted a fax number and I refused. Told him that he could send whatever to the email that was listed.

2006-08-30 22:06:56 UTCB.K. DeLong

They called again about Mortgage. I mentioned they called last week and that I told them to take me off their list.

Next time I will tell them I reported them the last 5 times they called me to the FTC for violation of the Do Not Call registry.

2006-08-30 21:18:37 UTCDK

"Domain Registry Services" Calls my house several times per day, for months now. Just spoke to the nice Indian lady (who finally answered me after I said Hello about the eighth time) and then she tried to hijack my domain name. Told her to never call again, to take me off their list. She said the call was "not a solicitation" and persistently read my information to me from my domain's WHOIS record, asking me to verify the that it was correct. Had to hand up on her.

No need to be mean. She probably lives on the streets of Bangladesh and has to make spam calls to feed her kids, right?

2006-08-29 16:55:25 UTCBrett Ellis

I owned this telemarketer from the phone number:
+1 (866) 383-0986

They try to get fax numbers from people who own domain names so they can send spam to their fax machines, so I gave him the address to the FCC office in Washington DC.

Me: Heyyy!
Him: "Uh hello there, is this Brett Ellis who owns the domain RomanWolves.com?"
Me: "Yes!" (I was rather excited about messing with him)
Him: "Is your addess at 116 Mart........?"
Me: "Yea um actually no its changed."
Him: "Okay, what has it been changed to?"
Me: "445 12th. SW, Washington DC, 20554"
Him: "Okay, is your phone number still 91942..."
Me: "Um actually I hope you do mail me.." (I trailed off and hung up)

I hope they send spam to the Federal Communications Commission in Washington DC and get completely shut down for doing so :)

2006-08-29 16:43:18 UTCBrett Ellis

The same indian accented man called wanting me to validate like EVERYONE else :) I did a little trick as someone else did, I told him my new address was 445 12th St. SW
Washington, DC 20554. I hope they like it when they discover they've been messing with the FCC head office!

For the full story on this number, look here:

michaelrighi.com

I received a phone call from this company on August 23rd, and was home to receive it. As others have said, I was asked to “confirm my address” in relation to a hardly used domain I’ve owned for a year or so (not the one linked from my name, I hasten to add).

I asked the individual phoning (who had an Asian accent, Chinese if I had to guess - I was raised in Hong Kong and am fairly familiar with such accents) whether he was with my domain registrar, and he said that no, he wasn’t. I informed him he had no business contacting me, and hung up on him.

I reported the company to the FTC for violation of the federal Do Not Call list.

Less than 30 minutes later, I received a second call from the company - this time from a woman with a mild Indian accent. I informed her that I had already reported them to the Federal Trade Commission once today, and that I would do so again. I then hung up on her.

2006-08-28 20:53:21 UTCJosh

Person with indian accent called from this number claiming to be from "Domain Registry Support" and needing our fax number. I did not provided it and afterwards called Domain Registry Support directly. They claim they do not know why I would have received such a call.

2006-08-28 19:00:13 UTCPM

I continue to get calls from these people, even though I report them to DoNotCall.com every time. The accent is definitaly coming from India, and I can hardly understand what they are saying - making the call even more annoying and intrusive.

2006-08-28 17:20:00 UTCray

indian man asks me to confirm my address to I told him to make love to a goat and stick the phone up his anal passage. Touch wood I haven't had another call. I know for a fact it isn't a uk based number because I checked.

These people called me again today. I get AT LEAST one call each day from them. Each time I ask to be taken off their call list. Sometimes the calls are as late as 9 p.m. PST when my four year old is asleep!

It starts with a ring and then dead silence. A machine then says, "Please hold the line for a call." Then usually a woman (but sometimes a man) with a thick accent comes on the phone. She doesn't identify herself or her company name. She simply says that she has my address on file (where I rented a townhome over a year ago) and that she shows I am paying (some made up number) in monthly mortgage and that my percentage is high. I tell her she is ALL WRONG as I have NEVER in my life had a mortgage. The address she has "on file" is a rental property. She then HANGS UP on me and calls again the following day. UGH!

PLEASE HELP ME FIND A WAY TO MAKE THESE STOP!!!

These calls came in on my cell. All calls were received on the same date (Aug 25, 2006) I live in Gainesville Florida. 1st call was at 3:07 PM ET and lasted for 12 seconds before it hung up on its own. @ 3:38 PM ET I received a call from "unavailabe" which lasted for 14 seconds before hanging up on its own. @4:31 PM ET I received another call which I did not answer. Calls from this number seem to be automated and you only hear dead air. I have returned this call from both my cell and office phone and the line seemed to be picked up but again I only heard dead air. All calls listed in this message are in reference to 866-383-0986.

just got a call, did not answer. I have domain names and have got these calls before. weasels!

2006-08-07 19:24:24 UTCGSY

These people obviously had WHOIS information from a domain name. At first they made the call sound like it was validating domain whois registration information. They read me my address and wanted to know if that was still accurate. I would not confirm it. Then they asked for a fax number. I told him I have no idea who you are. If you want to to confirm or update information, you will need to contact me electronically using the registered contact information and hung up.

Googling the phone number showed this to be a pattern. google.com

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
