Well, I went into the (BofA) Bank today and talked to the teller about this issue, she did not know what to say or what to do. She didn't really have an answer for me. Apparently they don't talk about such things with their tellers, at least as far as how to handle such a conversation from a customer. She was nice, (as they always are at my branch) but didn't really know what to say. So she suggested that if it had been an email I could send a copy to their fraud and abuse mailbox. So I think I will sent them an email and describe the situation to them. Mailbox address can be found on their website.

Got their spiel about the Bank of America and the credit monitoring program too. When I told them my policy is to never agree to give out my credit card on the phone or agree to purchase anything from anyone that calls me, period! Then they started to go into the warp drive hyper-mode of trying to sell me! I stopped them and asked them to send me the information and I'd look it over - the refused so I ended the conversation nd told them to not call me back it would never happen. They started calling me back about a week ago - same crap - weekends, evenings, all hours of the day ect.... So today I filed a complaint at the DNC registry. After the complaint this was the statement you all might find interesting;

You can always take the Jerry Seinfeld approach. Next time they call you, just say, "I'm sorry. I'm kinda busy right now. If you give me your home number, I'll call you back later". After they refuse, just say, "Oh, I see. So you don't like strangers calling you at home?" After they agree, then you say, "Well, now you know how I feel"... and hang up.

I answered one of these calls on February 4th and they asked for Michelle Booker who is someone that previously had my number, however, I've had this number since Apr 2007 and it is on the DNC. They said that since Michelle has an account with BofA that they have business with her and therefore the call is not covered by the DNC. The woman I spoke to said that BofA was offering insurance, and tried to solicit me. I told her I was not interested and to please stop calling. She said she would remove my number from their calling list but it would take up to 30 days. I guess there policy is to call twice a day to someone who already advsd they are not interested. What idiots!

Rec'd another call yesterday March 3, 2009 1:38 PM MST from ph# 866-315-7101. After the first 6 times they call, I contacted Bank of America and had them take my number of of Ms Booker's account. Then had them opt me out of special offers on my own account, and I had already told them not to call me again, plus I had already made it clear that I wasn't interested in insurance. So why they called again is beyond me.

What I do know is that since I spoke to them on February 4th and they told me it would take 30 days for my number to be taken off their list, it will be covered under the DNC if they call me after March 6th, 2009. And you'd better believe if they do call after that date I will be reporting it.

i spoke to someone who called from 866-665-9900. they claimed to be from bank of america credit monitoring, and read all of my personal information to me over the phone, verifying that they were goign to send me a credit report. it sounded very suspicious to me, so i called bank of america back (not the number that called, but the number listed on b of a website). i spoke to someone and they informed me that bank of america does not make personal phone calls to their customers. if they need to reach a customer, it will be through e-mail or an automated message. i was very concerned, but they can't register a complaint on their end. they did enroll me in the id protection plan for free... so now i have to wait to see if that 866 number is jeopordizing my credit. by the way, they also called my home about 4-5 times before i answered, even on saturdays.

What a paradox! Annoying daily calls from a credit card company (I suspect Bank of America) invading my privacy on a daily basis during the dinner hour to try and sell me protection for my privacy.

They called and I blocked their number from calling me again. If you have call blocking from your phone company or VOIP provider, add the number to the call block list so they can't call you any more. If they use another number, block that too. They only use dumb machines to call you so as far as they know, you're never there.

I have a recorded message on my answering machine.They did not leave a message,so that ends that.

I'd like to make a correction to my previous post: I just found another post online noting that these people are not affiliated with BanK of America, but BanC of America. The person posting had gone to their branch of Bank of America and learned that this has nothing to do with BanK of America so do not give out any information. They probably already have your name, phone number and address. Report them!

This is a company calling on behalf of Bank of America trying to sell identity theft insurance. There is a delay from the time you pick up the phone and they answer you - that is why you hear background noise. I do not think it is right for Bank of America to provide phone numbers to anyone whether they have a relationship with this vendor or not.

Called and asked to speak with my daughter. We have received daily calls but have never picked up until today. Asked for my daughter and when I told them she was unavailable and asked to take a message, cleer refused, said he would call back later and hung up. If and when they call back, I am going to tell them to remove my name from their calling list.

these people have been calling me nonstop for the last couple of years. They are asking constantly for my daughter, who moved out five years ago! I have told them over and over that she does not live here, and have gotten mean about it, but they still keep harrassing me daily. I too have reported them to the do not call registry. This is yet another saturday morning we have been woke up by this number. I am on the do not call list yet I get calls from these people twice a day without fail. So does my grandmother and she has a different number. I am going to complain to the do not call registry. I have never answered the phone, but they never stop calling me.

We aren't allowed to leave messages. As we're trying to protect identities, we can't just tell someone that you have an account with us. What if it is some random person in your home or an untrustworthy housekeeper?
Places, like the one I work for, have to sort of take what they can get as far as employees. It isn't an easy job and when people are new, they often don't know what exactly to say to get you to listen, hence the talking over and the quick hangups instead of a polite thankyou, I'll try back. I can't apologize for other people, but it is the reality of who works for call centers.
To be taken off the list, you have to specifically ask. Also, it takes 30 days so you might still get calls.
Finally, I don't enjoy bothering people. I do think that identity theft is serious and that it is a great service B of A is offering to help their customers. If I had my choice, this isn't what I'd be doing,but I live in a small town with few jobs and need to pay the bills. A little bit of understanding and empathy on your part would be appreciated. If you're one of those rude people that is automatically "I'm not interested in what you're selling" without even knowing that we're not selling anything, I hope someone steals your identity and ruins all your credit. Not really, I just hope you can have a bit of compassion, even for people you think are just rude telemarketers. We're not. We're people that need jobs to take care of our kids, etc., not that much different than you.

We only call people with preexisting Bank of America accounts and aren't calling to sell anything, so it isn't telemarketing. People like yourselves just automatically assume it is and don't even give yourself the chance to hear about a very good service B of A is offering to PROTECT YOU. If you don't think you're vulnerable to identity theft, you're an idiot!

To clear things up...Bank of America is a client of the company I work for. We call existing B of A cardholders to offer them a service that protects them from identity theft. Part of it is insurance, if you are victim of identity theft, covers up to 25,000...lawyer fees, calls, debt, etc. Identity theft is completely different than credit card protection and the calls aren't to be annoying. It is a serious problem that could happen to anyone at anytime unknowingly unless you look at your credit report everyday. Another part of the call is to ask permission to send your credit reports to you so you can look over them and make sure you're not a victim.

I have just spoken with a wonderful associate by the name of..Well.. lets just call her *ANNE* I found her to be pleasant and good interpersonal skills. I stayed on the phone with her and told her about this web site. I got this call Saturday at 9:30 am, they had my name slightly wrong and hung up on me right away. I could hear the call center in the back ground. The number in my caller ID was 614-652-2637 INFLUENT which is somehow related to Bank of America. Influent's number 888-665-9900 is only operated M-F 9 am- 6 pm. I called Bank of America for the customer service for my credit card with them and they said they would opt me out of the calls and put a notation on my account not to call, but it takes 90 days!!! Obvioiusly BofA doesn't have any respect for their customers and just want to make a buck any sleazy way they can! Time to change banks.

Bank of America sells customer info. Got a letter from a lawyer that said this were already settle out of court. I have to reply back to him and tell him what kind of accounts I opened up and when I did it and all I get is free service from Band of America. How much and for how long depends on when I open an account and which kind and how many. SUCKS. N

A few days ago, I got 10 calls from this phone no. within a half hour period. Everytime i would answer, only a beeping noise would come on. Eventually, I let the answering machine get it, but the sound was SOO loud and annoying, I couldn't sleep. Today, It called again, but this time they asked for my name :

This is Influent, they call locally in BIG cities like Chicago, and they sell expensive disability insurance. They ignore the fact the Americans are covered by government.

Influent operates from Newport, Ohio. I live close by so I am always hearing their commercials on the local radio stations. They do not advertise as a telemarketing service, the advertise as insurance sales. However, I know several people that have worked there and they have told me that they are a hugh telemarketing firm, where the pay that they receive is based on how many calls they make and how many sales they get.

No message, but the number was on my caller ID. I am already on the DNC list, so I hope they don't call again. My number is new and unlisted, so that was kind of disturbing.

Bank of America called several times in one day. first I was nice and told them I was busy call back next week. They called back an hour later with another operator. I hung up. A few days later they called and offered me life insurance, I told them no and ended the call. Later that day ANOTHER call came and offered me the same thing. UGH.

Okay, so I was the stupid one and decided to give it a try. i asked to get some literature from Influent and they said they would send it to me. Also recorded me agreeing to the policy. I'm worried, but they didn't ask for social or anything. just confirmed my address. I hope this literature comes in the mail so that I can cancel. They can't have my checking info, but I don't see the catch in this scam!

INFLUENT HARASSMENT

My husband and I have been receiving phone calls for months from a company named INFLUENT (614)652-2637 at all hours of the day and night, even past 8 PM! Our number is in the Do Not Call Registry donotcall.gov for over a month and we still get them harassing us! I am so sick of them! I agree with Tom, and we are doing the same and calling Bank of America to complain - next step is a LAWYER!

I get calls from them several times a week. When I say the person they're looking for isn't home, they simply hang up.

I called BofA and complained and canceled an insurance policy I had with them, futher more I requested their legal department contact me concerning what I feel to be using a telemarketing company to stalk me, next step is a lawyer. Tom

I too get many calls from BofA. I was able to get a corp. # and called today (04-26-07) Talked to Liz Gill at 877-898-5018. She could not understand why I wanted this type of phone scam shut down. She couldn't wait to get me off the phone. I only stayed on the line for 25 min. Give them a call and take them for a test drive.

On My caller ID it says Central States # 888-668-6938 They have called 11 times in 2 days. I have told them thier is no one here by that name. They still call and I no longer answer the phone.

I called BOA and they are looking into this.

I was offered a million dollar disability policy for only 14.95 a month. They wanted me to enrol and they would send me the policy to review and I could cancel within 30 days.

I thought too good to be true so I asked if they could sent me some literature and they said no. I asked for a call back number and they said we don't have one. I asked for them to call me back after I had time to check them out and they said they couldn't.

I replied this is a scam and hung up.

We have received this call for about 2 weeks now. Everyday at around the same time of day...between noon and 2 pm. When we pick up...no one is there.

They (888-668-6938) have been calling from 8am-9pm for the past three weeks. The most puzzling thing though is how they associated my name with the number. Not only is the phone on the National Do Not Call list, I don't even know the number, it's a house phone that I never use and nowhere is my name associated with the number. I called BofA after I got the first call, and they told me they'd never heard of the number. I will get to the bottom of this. Internet lookup has the number listed as Central States Indemnity of Omaha Nebraska.

The call came in as out of area at 11:52 am on Wednesday, December 6th. I didn't answer, and they left no message. Has happened too many times to count.

The following has been said to have some effectiveness.
What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine dialed call and it kicks your number out of their system.

We get calls from this number at least twice a day, even on the weekends, starting at around 8:00 AM. The last call is usually around 9:00 PM. It IS Bank of America's telemarking department, selling insurance and other products. We have complained to Bank of America, but the calls have actually increased! We have asked to be taken off their call list, to no avail. We have Caller ID, so we no longer pick up the phone if we see this number. If you answer their calls, even to ask them to stop calling, it makes it worse! The only option we've found is to post their numbers on sites like this to warn other people, and to not answer calls from 866 and other 800 numbers. Good Luck! Please let us know if anyone discovers a better solution!

This is a company selling disability insurance through some banks.If you are allowing your bank to send(solicit) to you chances are that is how this company got your info.You have to OPT OUT of everything these days.People you DO business with dont always tell you that you need to OPT out if you dont want solicitations from them or anyone. I OPTED OUT of Bank America and all affiliates with them.If you dont want ANY solicits/be sure when you fill out ANY paperwork ANYWHERE,and they have you sign the "PRIVACY ACT" that you OPT OUT.Your car/house insurance,phone company etc.My sister thought she was unlisted but turns out ONLY in her LOCAL directory.Found her on a google search,and a 411locate search. SCARY!(It gave the adress where her phone bill is MAILED though so that tells us the phone company sold the "billing list"

I've been getting a lot of calls from 866-315-8139 in the past week or so... As a matter of fact, I just got one 2 minutes ago. I was googling the number up tryingto figure out WTF it was, and found this page... I picked up a few times, and all they said was "Hello?" and then hung up on me. I have been called by this number multiple times a day for the past few weeks. Since I didn't know who was calling, I didn't answer. Whoever was calling didn't find it important enough to leave a message, though, so I never answer when they call. I want to get them to stop calling, but I have no idea how. Maybe I'll answer the phone next time and tell them not to call me ever again. :) Hmm... I like that!

I have asked these people several times to stop calling me. One time the guy was very rude and said, "we'll be sure to call you back then." Ever since that call, I've been really offensive to every person who calls me from this number; I use racist, sexist, ethnic, and accusative dialogue to emabarass, frustrate and piss-off the callers, in hopes they will stop calling me one day. They still call me, without fail, several times every week!

I get calls from this number several times per week. I quit picking it up and just let the machine get it.

This company has called my house 3x this week asking for me. Hubby answered last 2x and told them I wasn't home. They just called again & I just answered & it was someone calling "On behalf of Bank of America NA" to sell me insurance. I had to tell her twice that I wasn't interedted and she was STILL talking when I hung up. Argh!

Both husband and I have been getting calls from this number on our (unpublished) cellphones. Never a person speaking, hash and noise of callcenter in the background. I put the number into Google and found this site - signed up both cellphones with Do Not Call Registry (home phone already on it) and am hoping for peace and quiet!

Bank of America claiming they want to sell me insurance. I don't think they are even in the insurance business. Probably getting a % off some company and taking advantage of having my phone number.

today, a strange telephone NO. was in my phone. and it was from 866 315 8139,I didnt pick it up. I didnt even know what the area code comes from.

It's a company that calls on behalf of company with pre-existing customers from those companies. Some of the places she listed was Bank of America and Allstate as well as some others. It's not technically telemarketing in the sense of doing anything illegal because there's a preexisting relationship between you and the company who is making the offers. Very friendly people though, had an enjoyable chat. :)

I get calls from this number today and I could hear noise in the background..It is pretty hard to hear what he is talking about.
