Who Called Us

The number appears on my caller ID, when I attempt to call it back, I get a fax tone.

We bought a company several years ago & the phone line rolls over to our phones here, though no calls can be made out on it, we only receive calls from that number. It's still active for the folks that used to use that company for service. We don't get many calls on it, mostly garbage calls with the occasional "I used to use them for my service" real calls. There's no phone sitting somewhere still attached to that number.

Just had a caller that asked if this was the old company's name (since I answer the phone with the business name "Good morning **insert business name here**"). I informed her that was company we'd bought several years ago, the company doesn't exist, we just have that line roll over here. Said she was calling for Verizon (or some such nonsense) & they got a customer service call from that number on Sunday.

I said that number & business doesn't exist, no calls go out on that number. "But we just got a call on Sunday for customer service!"

I then told her the same thing I told her before, no such business, roll over number, etc. Adding to this time "You couldn't have gotten a call from that number because we're not open on Sunday, no one is here."

"But we got a call from this number, I know it exists because we got a call!!"

I repeat same info YET AGAIN & she finally got disgusted & hung up. It's not like I was making stuff up, I told her the truth, I never said the number didn't exist. Guess they can't handle the truth.

My guess is that these calls come from UNITED RECOVERY COLLECTIONS, a debt collection agency. I have been getting these 800 SERVICE calls for years and never answer them.

Do a GOOGLE on this number or on UNITED RECOVERY COLLECTIONS and you will be sickened by their tactics. They clearly have the wrong person when they call me, I don't owe anyone a dime and am not about to tell them WHO I AM! After all............THEY CALLED ME! Who calls a number and doesn't know who they are trying to reach. Gimmee a break.

My calls to Capital One proved fruitless, they deny having that number. My gut reaction is that it comes from UNITED RECOVERY COLLECTIONS, a debt collection agency. Do a GOOGLE on them and be amazed at their tactics. Thank God for CALLER ID. I don't owe anyone anything so SCREW 'EM!

Saw this number on my cell phone at 6:22 PM on Friday. I don't have a CapitalOne card so I would know immediately this was a scam. After reading all these posts, I will just add this number as 'IGNORE' on my cell phone & never answer. I have about 15 of those now..with all the 'auto warranty' and 'reduce your NEVER answer they will eventually move on (only to replaced by the next scammer). Unfortunately all we can do anymore is IGNORE these calls- they won't go away, they usinbf phishing scams for the phione numbers and you can't find them or stop them.
By the way, the fax sound many of you are getting when you call the number back is probably a recording- not a real fax modem. DON'T EVER CALL THESE NUMBERS BACK- you just verify your phone numnber is a GOOD number & they will continue to call you. If it were any legitimate business there would have been a messgae left.

They said they were calling regarding the at&T and SBC merger. They wanted to verify the name and address of my business and the name of th person in charge of marketing.

My son answer a call from this number saying that they are Capital One. I contacted Capital One, they say it is not their number. It is a fraud. Why goverment can't do anything? Every phone number must be registered with a legimate address. Why goverment can't do anything? I have registered my phone number on do-no-call list. Even it's survey, the business is NOT supposed to call my number. Why goverment can't do anything?

I missed a call from 866-309-5750 while I was in the shower. No message was left. I do have a credit line with Capital One, but I am ahead on my payments and have never called them about anything. Not sure why they would be calling me. I will try to answer if they call again to provide more details.

I havent' answered any of their calls, but they call on my cell phone all tiems of the day or night...last night was at 9:30....yes, i was in bed. Next time i will answer and tell them off!

I just leave the fax machine on all the time now. My pnone rings all day with all kinds of scams, sales, etc. The do not call list is a failure because there is no enforcement of the law. We need to stop this ourselves. Anytime we find out where these people are we need to pay them a visit. Please post names and addresses of these telemarketing jerks if you find them out and I will visit them if they are near my area (the northwest).

Said they were doing a Credit Card Satisfaction Survey. When I asked if he could tell me who my current cardholder is, he refused, saying it would skew the survey. (Sounds like skewed logic to me.) So I told him "then we have to end this", and I hung up.

They called 3 time on my cell phone. I didn't pick up and they didn't leave a voice mail. I called the number back and got a fax tone.

No message left. I do not answer these calls.

Got one from this number this afternoon. I did not answer and the assholes did not leave a message.

These calls are from Capitol One. They are relentless in calling for collections on an old account of my Dad's after he had a stroke. I tell them he is in a home and can't pay to charge off the $1420.00 because I'm not paying it. I say I'm not responsible for this. Yet they still call... They suck!

2 calls from them today, 1 at 2:24pm and 1 at 2:25pm (they must be desperate to get me). When I called back, I got a fax/modem. Oh well...

I recently got a call from this number, and when I called it back it was a fax machine noise. I noticed the comment referring to Capital One, and I recently applied, so maybe that is what it is.

They just called saying that they were from Capital One and were a customer service center inquiring about the call I made to Capital One on Saturday.
They asked me if I remembered the call and then asked me if I could tell them what the call was about. When I told them "no" they told me to hold on and never picked up the line.
Various google searches are revealing that this is a phishing scam. If they call, don't give them any information.

I called back this number and got a fax machine. I left my phone by the TV for the rest of the day while I was still connected. I hope this stopped them from calling others for at least a while.

I received a call from this number today. The guy (had a foreign accent) asked for me by name. Since I did not recognize him or the number I did not talk to him. After I Googled the number, read the the posted messages on this number and was really surprising, this number sounds very similar to another number that was calling me.

(866)859-4622 calls people who have something in common: recently graduating from college. They also ask for you by name and then they hang up. When asked they identfy themselves as Direct Student Services, which appears to be some sort of Student Loan consolidation business, and I do not have any student loans. Also when you try to call the number back, you get a message that it is a nonworking number. They now have a website.

A little advice, if you don't recognize the number, don't answer and try to call it back, Google it, find out who is calling you.
Program the number as a "Don't Answer", I have kids who like to answer my cell phone.
Now days everyone has a cell phone, use it and don't give your home number out.
****Check your credit report. I did so and found out that Direct Student Services was inquiring about me.****
Also, you all may know this, never give out personal info to anyone you don't know, by obtaining little pieces of information about you, over a period of time, they can piece you together. Just be careful

They say they are a "direct market research" company. I've told them 3 times to stop calling but they keep calling.

Called the number back and got a fax line. Decided to look them up on line and found this website. Looks like they have a bunch of cell phone numbers. Where'd they get those? and the names to boot?

called saying they were with Capital One and wanted to do a survey. I told them I would NOT talk with them because I didn't know who they were. When I called the number back several times, it was sometimes BUSY, but when it did go through it was a FAX line! They got pushy, trying to get me to talk with them, but I said NO and hung up. Then I reported them to Capital One who confirmed that they did NOT call me and that they did NOT authorize anyone to call me to conduct a survey. Some of my personal information was compromised recently, and this call from these idiots confirms that they at least got my PHONE number, which I seldom give to anyone. They are SCAMMERS!!! DON'T TELL THEM ANYTHING. JUST HANG UP ON THEM!!!

BEWARE! I got a call from this number many times and they would just hang up if answered or not leave a message if not answered. Tonight I answered the call, and they asked for me by name but I would not give out any information. I also received an email that was supposedly from CapitalOne saying there was a security breach with my credit card. I was referred to another website only to be told by network security that it was a phishing email. I suspect these may be folks trying to get identity details.

Received a call from a Kevin. Polite and asked me if he could ask four simple questions that would take 2-2.5 minutes. Do I own a car, a home, have a bank account. Told him I can't discuss these things and he said he knew that would come up. Call ended.

Let this go to the answering machine. All that was left was heavy breathing.

I missed a call from this number, and for some reason decided to call it back. I got a fax machine noise, like alot of others. I bet if I would have answered, it would have been "Capital One". It's definately a scam! They say they're from Capital One because most people DO have an account with Capital One. DO NOT ANSWER!

I've been getting calls from this number on my cell phone. I call back and its a fax machine. I'm reading what others wrote & they are saying its capital one. I have 3 accounts with them. Now im confused

Caller ided himself as Jeff from a marketing firm. Asked several vague questions, then focused in on where I bank. I refused to answer so he said goodbye.

I received a call from this number three times this morning. Generally, I do not answer any call from a number I do not know. I called back and got a fax line ringing in my ear. I suppose it a scam/phishing. Would suggest to anyone else not answer it. I will continue to ignore calls from this number.

I keep getting this call. I called back and i get fax tone.

These are the most abnoxious people. They call multiple times during the day, all different people, rude talk over you and when you tell them you are not interested to take you name off their list you end GETTING MULTIPLE CALLS within an hour. seems like they know when your in the car or with a client, I added this Number to my phone under DO NOT ANSWER .
Now i have no problem.

They keep calling my cellphone. Each time I try to call them back I get a fax machine, I've never heard a real voice because I've never been by my phone when they call.

i was at cheerleading practice when they called, when it was over i saw i had a missed call. i called back and it said the server is too busy to take any calls.

I got two calls back to back that I missed. Annoyed that this appears to be some sort of scam.

There is a webisite that shows you how to get rid of these annoying people for free, they dont ask you to register or nothing, go to adviceontime.com they have a lot of useful info. hope this works for you too.

I received a call from this phone number on 4-16-07 at 3:11PM. The gentleman said that he was from Capital One and wanted to ask me a few questions about my recent experience. I said that I was not interested and he abruptly hung up on me. I then called Capital One to say how unbusiness like this was and they explained that this is not a Capital One employee!! Do not answer!!

Received 2 back to back calls today, 4/12/07. Like many others, i didn't recognize the #, so i didn't p/u. I decided to get online to see who it was instead and found this site.

called my daughters cell number every few hours for a number of days until I called them back and told them they need to quit calling. The girl argued with me, but then agreed to remove the number. Received a call again the next day and I explained that they were calling a "no call" # and needed to stop. They were looking for an "Andrea". No receiving calls from this 866 #.

Someone from 18663095750 asked me on 3/31/2007.They said my brother that they are from capitalone.My brother told them to call back.

I got a call at 6pm from this number, but i don't answer to weird numbers, so i didn't pick up. they didn't leave a message, tough luck for them.

Ok, here is some info that might help. I recieved a call on my cell from this number. I don't answer 866 numbers, so it went to mail. No message was left. I did a search and found this website with many references to calling back and getting a fax line. I continued with my search and also found 1-866-309-5750 which refers to the Internet Yellow Pages FAX line. DON'T EVER ANSWER THIS CALL, they are masking their real phone number!!!!

They have called a number of times, I have not picked up the phone, nor do they have left a message. I wondered what kind of call it was so I searched and I see that it's most likely a phishing thing. Good job for posting their number.

called the first time saying they were from Capital One wanting to take a survey about my recent experience. I called Capitol One explaining I wanted no further calls of this type. The second time they called, they didn't leave a message and upon returning the call to the number, I get what sounds like a fax machine answering. If this is what I get by being a Capital One customer, I'll soon NOT be a customer! btw, ALL my numbers are on the State Attorney Generals Do Not Call List!

This number calls my cell phone every few days. I don't wish to give me number out, but I live in Pasadena, MD. Usually the calls are in late evening. January 24, 2007 at 9:00 PM. I called it back twice and got the noise of a fax machine. I also gets calls from 410 000-0000. Whats up with that.

they call me ALL THE TIME 7 days a week(yes SUNDAY TOO) 4 times a day or more i have told them to F*&K off but they dont listen.. Now when they call they hang up as soon as i answer.. im done picking up the phone i dont know what too do!
