You're wrong, j nasty.

I've been getting this automated message from Asset Acceptance on and off for years looking for someone else.

Funny that I found this website with all of you.

Actually, every debt has a "Statute of Limitation" and after so long, they cannot successfully get money from you. They can sue you for it, but not successfully if the SOL has expired the debt. Every state has a different law on SOL's...where I live, it's 5 years, so after 5 years they can no longer chase me for the debt legally. Check into it because if as some of you say are being hounded for a 17 year old debt, get a lawyer to get rid of this. The SOL was put into place so that people would not be hounded for debts 20 years after the fact. Research your state's Statute of Limitation rights and you'll find that many of you won't be held accountable for such old debts. Whatever you do, don't file Bankruptcy...it'll be on your credit report for 10 years and you won't be able to do anything as far as credit goes. I've done a lot of research on this topic as I went through the same thing. Good luck!

debts have no statute of limitations. the only things that do are suits and credit reporting- not collecting of debts. its obvious that you know nothing of the facts and laws involved. do a little research. there are only 2 ways to get rid of debt of any age- pay it or file bankruptcy. that simple. if its 2 years old or twenty if you owe it you owe. this company is willing to provide debt validation and settle accounts. its your bill dont be mad at them that you didnt pay it in so long that you forgot. the reason you may purchase things and not see it on a cbr is that if its over 7 years from the last date paid it cannot be reported. but not paying your bills because you dont have any threats to do so is not a valid reason. if more people paid on time and paid their "old" debt , imagine how much less problems our economy might have. pay your bills- help us all.

your in debt with these people. pay your bills and you wont get calls- pretty easy

2008-05-20 20:12:45 UTCLucy

They left messages several times because nobody answered the phone. They stated it was about some sort of debt collection but with a weird name.

2008-05-15 20:42:22 UTCJ

These people call at least 4 times a week. They are like the mob. They use several different numbers and are in cahoots with your phone company too because you CAN NOT block them. They are AACC (Asset Acceptance Corp.), a debt collector trying to get at least a penny out of you. They buy extremely old, written off debts for a fraction of the debt, beyond the statues of limitations, and try to track you down and harass you into giving them money. Don't Do It! Better put lifelock on your credit fast because they will mess it up and lie and mark that you made a 25-50 dollar payment sometime recently on your credit history without your consent, thus claiming to have grounds to collect. The U.S. government really needs to look into AACC and the IRS. They seem Criminal and disregard the laws.

Thanks Mike the stuff on adviceontime.com worked perfectly! Thank you so much for the info!

This came on my cell phone Feb 1 and Feb 5. He said this is Brian Andrews, a debt collector from Asset Acceptance and left the toll free number, which I did not call. When those calls come on my cell, I save the number and label it Collector on caller id, so I know not to even pick up, which I never do, if it is from an area code I don't recognize. I read once they are from Sprint.

2008-02-13 19:41:54 UTCDee

Asset Acceptance is a debt collecting service. They buy old accounts from companies and try to track down the money. In my case I owed Verizon Wireless around $315.bucks from 12 years ago. These idiots buys these accounts trying to make a profit. They (Asset Acceptance)wanted to collect from me $404. which they said was interest applied on the account. FYI, NOBODY has ever signed an cell phone agreement that has interest applied to the bill. If you don't know how much you owe, find out from the original lender or business. Then undercut these ***holes(Asset Acceptance)so they start losing money on this racket. I settled for much lower than my original amount owed.

These folks are apparently trying to collect on a debt THEY say is 17 years old!!! I don't even recall having an acct with who they said they were collecting on. Additionally, when I told them I wanted a copy of some PROOF of the debt with my signature on it they said they would send me a copy of what they had but that it wouldn't have a signature on it. WHAT DUMBASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is probably a case of ID theft or outright fraud on their part but either way its 17 YEARS OLD!!! How do they think their going to enforce it. The credit bureau won't take anything older than 7 years and the courts won't enter a judgement on debt older than 4 years.

2008-01-09 20:11:15 UTCsara

Ever wonder where drug addicts, prison parolees, and newly released mental patients go? They become debt collectors....oh.....that's why they're BRAIN DEAD DIRTBAGS!

2007-12-07 19:10:17 UTCEd

The called and left a long automated message stating they are not telemarketers and it is important I call them back without specifiying reason. I refuse to dignify such a vague request and veiled request.

2007-11-15 19:47:16 UTCj

this was the return phone number they left, incoming number was 248-220-8707

2007-11-07 18:37:30 UTCElizabeth

BEWARE IT’S A DEBT COLLECTOR!!! EVEN WORSE, IT'S A ZOMBIE. ZOMBIES ARE OLD DEBT THAT THE CREDITOR HAS SOLD--for pennies on the dollar-- to companies such as WEST ASSET MANAGEMENT. THEY HARASS AND THREATENED PEOPLE IN TO PAYMENT AGREEMENTS. THE TRICK IS, THE ZOMBIES DON'T HAVE ANY LEGAL RECOURSE TO COLLECT ON SAID DEBT. THIS IS WHAT MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW. THEY WILL TRY TO PUT NEGATIVE MARKS ON YOUR CREDIT HISTORY, BUT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CONTEST IT AND THE CREDIT HISTORY COMPANIES WILL REMOVE IT. DO NOT CALL THEIR TOLL FREE NUMBERS. REMEMBER, OLD DEBT THAT IS MORE THAN 7 YEARS OLD THAT HAS PASSED THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS. YOU ARE SAFE AS LONG AS YOU DON'T AGREE TO A PAYMENT AGREEMENT. ONCE YOU ENTER INTO A PAYMENT AGREEMENT WITH THESE ZOMBIES, THE DEBT BECOMES BRAND NEW AND LEGAL. THEY ARE CALLED ZOMBIES BECAUSE THEY RESSURECT OLD DEBT FROM THE DEAD.

Just rec'd a call on my cell. I have a copy of my credit report and everything is fine--must be a scam.

2007-09-28 16:27:12 UTCImran

Just got a call from them. 248-220-8707. Automated voice stating that my wife owed money to someone. This is the first time I received a call on MY cell phone for my wife. This is a scam. We just bought a big house and didn't have any credit issues. Never give your SS # or any other info unless you are 100% sure they are the right folks. The message was to call some Brian Andrews at 866-266-6600

2007-07-28 15:45:51 UTCLarry

this is a debit collection service. Asset Acceptance Co.

2007-07-27 18:34:06 UTCCincinnati Joe

This is a new Toll Free number. They used to call with this number;(216) 485-8400. Asset Acceptance Corp, 600 W Resource Dr, Cleveland, OH 44102, (216) 485-840. Have never answered them and they don't leave messages.

2007-07-20 15:09:48 UTClady417

keep calling and never leave messages several times everyday.

2007-07-19 19:57:25 UTCDanni

I didn't pick it up when they called twice, once at 1052 and again at 1533. I never pick up a number that I don't recognize for this exact reason. Lucky for me that I haven’t dealt with these harassers. Just posting my experience for trending. Have a good one!

2007-07-12 21:06:20 UTCMike

I got these idiots to stop calling at work using a free letter i found on adviceontime.com

2007-07-12 17:31:13 UTCClara Bijl

They have been calling me on and off for years; looking for my neighborgh. At first they asked me to get her and have her call them back. I never told her. I have since moved, but they keep calling.

2007-07-01 03:47:10 UTCla_endamookri

She gave my name and personal information to these ZOMBIES and now they won't stop harassing me. ZOMBIES are old debt which has past the seven-year statue of limitation on your credit file. After the seven years, one is legally FREE from having to pay the debt, except in the case of child support student loans and the IRS. The original debt holder realizing they can no longer collect legally, will sell the dept to the ZOMBIES for pennies on the dollar. Although they have no legal right to make you pay, they will harass you anyway they can to get you to sign a re-payment agreement. Once one does this, it is all over! You are now LEGALLY bound to pay again. BE WARNED...

2007-07-01 03:34:04 UTCla_endamookri

It is TOTAL HARASSMENT. If you want to know the true source behind it, you only have to look as far some one in your life who is angry at you, be it ex- lovers, friends, coworkers or even family members. It is some one who know something about your past credit history and it is their way of harassing you. Mine was a vindictive co-worker who had the audacity to get a copy of MY credit report but couldn't find anything so she started this campaign. I know it was her because I set a trap which she fell right into it.

2007-06-25 16:50:18 UTCL

these people have called me numerous time, home phone and cell. Don't know how they got either. Finally, today I spoke with someone who did not give her name. they are trying to collect on a debt that had been charged off with a 1099-c. I had to pay the IRS and they are still trying to collect from me.I am notifying the credit bureau.

2007-06-22 21:51:47 UTCStella

According to my grandmother, they've repeatedly called her house looking for me. They told her that I owed them money and implied that it was related to student loans. I've never even lived there (unless spending a summer with her when I was ten counts) and have been diligent about paying on my REAL student loans.

2007-06-22 12:45:42 UTCunknown

They called my husband at work saying they have been trying to reach me the last 5 years. Trying to collect some debt that has been paid off long ago. I have had the same phone number the entire time.

2007-06-16 19:44:11 UTCJimi

Left a message that was very hard to understand, said they were needing to speak to someone who's name I do not know. It was regarding a "business matter". They left a case# and a callback# which I neglected to write down before I erased the message. After all I'm not the person they are looking for. We are on the DNC, so this stuff really pisses me off.

2007-06-14 18:25:00 UTCIrritated

The Cleveland Bureau routinely advises that under the Federal Trade Commission's Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, collection agencies may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representations or means to collect debts. They may not harass, oppress, or abuse any person while attempting to collect a debt. A debtor may be contacted between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. only and can be contacted at work unless and until instructed by the consumer to stop such contact. Collectors may not tell others about the debtor's personal finances. Collection agencies must provide the name of the creditor to the consumer, if the consumer questions, and must verify the debt with the creditor, if the consumer contends the debt is not owed. These requirements only apply to collection agencies. They do not apply to those creditors that have their own collection staff.

2007-06-14 13:04:30 UTCdan

said they were a debt collector no idea

2007-06-01 20:31:33 UTCMatt

Asset Collection is the name. Don't know much about them other than I had them remove my number from their phone bank. We have a recycled number from someone who may have forclosed on their house.

2007-05-31 17:50:50 UTCsue

they have called me each day for several weeks

2007-05-18 16:25:06 UTCAntoinette

I received a call from this person saying there was a debt they were trying to collect...the person doesn't exist -- It's garbage.

2007-05-10 14:56:29 UTCunknown

they asked to verify ssn,but never called back yet

2007-05-05 02:01:16 UTCSHARON

THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW. CALLING AND TELLING SOMEONE IT IS A DEBT COLLECTION. IT SCARES PEOPLE, EVEN WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE A DEBT. I HAVE REPORTED THIS ABOVE AND BEYOND THE NET.

2007-04-25 01:15:26 UTCsharon

They called and told another party in my household, that they were a debt collection. I cannot believe anyone would tell someone that with the privacy act in effect.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
