How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:

I have had dozens of these Heather from Account Services calls ... Sometimes they have called several times in one day. They have called on both my Verizon and AT&T phone. They hang up as soon as you start asking for a call back number. On dialog I had with them went as far as the lady saying I should give her my credit card number and a number to contact my credit card company, but she said she could not give me a call back number until they had contacted my credit card company because she said they needed to determine my debt level, and the call back number would be different depending on that. They want your information ... but they don't want to give any. She said she was in Florida ... but that the company was based elsewhere.
850-271-8240 WARRENTY PROTECTION, CALLED 31 TIMES!!!!!!
Something about account services
Just more of the same nonsense. Caller ID says Suzanna Smiley. I'm not smiling!
I live in the metro-DC area. Got a call on my cell phone from this number but they left no message. I tried calling back and it said the number was disconnected. I've got all my phone numbers of the donotcall.gov list, but they obviously don't follow that.
got a call from this number this morning, but when I got home and saw it on Caller ID and called back, it said it was disconnected. ?!?!
I hit 1 and spoke with Michelle.
I asked for their company name and she said "Financial Services".
I told her thank you, now I have enough info to report them to the Federal DNC list, which I immediately did.
no message no recording
No message left. Glad I didn't answer.
I received a call from (850)271-8240 and the caller ID said Panama City, FL. I did not recognize the number so I let it go to my answering machine. They did not leave a message. I immediately called the number back to see who it was, but I got a message that the number was disconnected. I am on the "do not call list" and my phone does not accept "private" calls, but whomever these people are bypassed my "no private calls accepted."
Moronic pre-recorded message from "heather" trying to say "nothing is wrong with your account..." These idiots have been turned into the Florida Attorney Generals office financial crimes investigators. Hope they hang'em!
unknown call
same as Cathy
i filed a complaint about number 850-271-8240 with the florida attorney general and they sent me a form letter stating that it is outside the jurisdiction of the state and i need to contact a lawyer..... for what.. a telemarketer what do i sue for harassment ?
calls are originated from that state but they care less
Didn't recognize so let it go to voice mail. Said it was Heather from Acct Services about lowering my credit card rate and was a limited time offer. I work out of my home so these kind of calls are a real pain in the rear. Surely there is something that can be done legally about these scum bags. I am on the Do Not Call list also.
Called and did not leave a message. As said above, return call yields a "disconnected" message, but I do not believe that the number is indeed disconnected. The inflection on both the 8's and 0's in the recording are different, meaning that the message was not electronically generated (as actual telephone companies are). In essence, the number is good and the message was recorded in-house to sound real with the purpose of misleading those of us who call it back.
no message left on answering machine.
No message left on answering machine. Unknown who the caller was.
The number is no longer in service when I called it back.
Call coming in from Panama City, Florida. We screen all calls and they can call as much as they want. Don't recognize the number, don't leave a message, We don't pick up or return the call.
No one there- hang up with nothing
My dad got a call from this number today. Didn't leave a message. But the number on the ID was 1-150-271-8240. Ran a check and found out that this is number is only different by the 150 vs the 850. Comes from the same city and state as this one.
2nd call. Hung up on first one. Pressed 1 this time, got a recording, couldn't understand. Will call them XX@@|||\\\%%% next time, should be fun. It is a scam for sure.
I LOOOVE the idea of BLOWING A WHISTLE into the phone!! Please spread the word, and let's all try this (in addition to continuing to report them to the authorities, of course.) I deleted dozens of messages over the course of a year (usually Lynn Haven, FL number 850-271-8240, but always same message) and finally pressed one to speak to an operator. Played the "I might be interested, what company are you with, may I speak to a supervisor please?" game for a bit, then they hung up on me. I am so sick of these calls. I work nights, and I don't pay for my phone service just to wind up turning the ringer off to avoid scammers!
When I tried to return the call, a recording told me that this number is no longer in service.
Credit Agency... Absolutely last opportunity to get lower rate...Press "1" for operator, press "9" to be off call list.. or something like that.
This is the third type of message for me this month (December), nothing like this before.
Oh, boy! My 850-271-8240 call 12-21-07 is similar to a 12-3-07 call from 207-430-1522 to me about bank cards, "last chance for a lower interest rate on your credit card". "Press '9' to delist my number" it said today, the earlier call said press "2" but I still got this call anyway.
something like - this is absolutely your last opportunity to upgrade your credit card to ...a lower rate..
Press 1 for an operator to take your information, press nine to ...stop these calls...
The call came at 09:26 AM PST 21 DEc. It was a recorded message claiming it was my chance to get a reduced credit card interest rate. Press "1" to speak with a representative. After a short "all our reps are busy" message, a woman came on the line and I asked her the name of her company. She replied "Financial Services"!
I then complained that her company was violating the "Do Not Call List" and I intended to report the call and please notify her supervisor of that fact. We mutualkly terminated the call at that point.
Definitely report them to the FTC and maybe even the FBI. It's a scam. They're "spoofing" their caller ID number probably using VOIP like Vonage, thinking that'll keep them from being caught. It won't. We can't track the number but the phone company and law enforcement can.
These people are actual criminals who are "spoofing" their caller ID number. The FCC and FTC have been useless when this matter has been called to their attention, they just respond with boiler plate "here's how to sign up for Do Not Call", ignoring that I am signed up for DNC (both federal and state).
But keep reporting these scum. Especially encourage anybody that's been scammed by them to make an FBI complaint (not FCC nor FTC, this is FBI jurisdiction).
Got the call today, was not in so didn't get to talk to the idiots. But always come up here
to check out all of them.. Glad to read the news about these idiots. I am going to try and
contack the Florida PSC or some organization that can check on them.
OH Larry, blowing a whistle into the phone doesn't do anything, the frequency response of
the phone circuit is 300-3000Hertz or cps. In the old days, you could blow a hig freq whistle
and it would disconnect the circuit, but not in todays timeframd.
They call all the time and start their little speech, but now when they call it is dead air. I liked the idea someone had about the whistle but I was thinking maybe an air horn would work better:)
Picked up the phone and received no answer. Called back the number and a recording stated that the number has been disconnected. These people are so slimey.
Who are these peter puffers ???
No message. My fax machine answered. The display just said Lake Haven, FL with the phone number.
I pressed one and the rude asshole that picked up the line refused to take me off the calling list and told me that there was nothing I could do because I couldn't prove who they were. No company name was given, but they are pretending that you have a credit card problem - which does not exist.
I am on the National Do Not Call List, however, they don't oblige by that number.
To stop the company "Call Command) from continuing to call you, you have to call 1-800-815-9907 and press #2.
NO MESSAGE LEFT. WHY BOTHER IF YOU CAN'T LEAVE A MESSAGE??
Recorded announcement from "Heather" telling me that I could get a lower interest rate on my credit cards. It starts out, though, as if there might be something wrong. Then she says there's nothing wrong. I have heard this same recording multiple times from this and other numbers. Since all my numbers are registered on the Do Not Call List, this is an obvious violation. Why are these terrorists not on their way to Gitmo for some friendly water boarding. That would be a vacation compared with what I'd like to do to them. Florida has the death penalty and uses it. Surely these chuckleheads have collectively consumed the equivalent of several lifetimes from their victims: virtual murder. Hang 'em high!
recorded message about lowering credit card rates -- hung up before the BS got deeper
Had a similar call October 10th, 2007 from "Coral Springs, FL 954-752-3816. Also says "Disconnected" when I "*67" call back
- INERESTING NOTE - THe 800-815-9907 NUMBER sees you despite the *67. I CALLED MY CELL, using the *67, and it comes up as "private number".
The 800 number robot says that this is a free service to keep-available "interesting calls"
available to consumers
This company called me and refused to identify themselves. They advised that I had to renew a contract, it was very important that the contract is to be renewed and they could not identify the contract. The representative refused to identify her company and when I dialed *69, got the number 850 271-8240. This numnber is a dead line. They are pfishing. Report it to the FTC
Got to a person, started to explain to her that I was on the DNC list and wanted to be taken off their phone list. She hung up on me. I reported it to the FTC.
My number is on the national do-not-call list so I was kind of pissed when I heard the commercial message. I pressed "1" for a live person so I could find out why they made an error calling me. Before I had even finished my sentence asking why they were calling people on the do-not-call list they hung up. This is definitely shady and I will fill out a report.
From reading other posts we do not carry credit card balances. The phone rang and rang as I was busy and as soon as I answered it they hung up on me.
I just lost my husband and have family in FL, and I think that this is just cruel
Folks, The do-not-call list won't protect you from calls made by companies with which you have established a business relationship. Now, what relationship might you possibly have established with a phone scammer? Why...you pressed 1 to give him a piece of your mind. THAT establishes your willingness to deal with these criminals. Then, they can keep calling you. Just don't answer.
I've gotten lots of calls from these people. I used to hang up, but once I pressed one to talk to an operator. When connected, I asked him who he was with, where they were, and to remove my name and mumber from his list, and that I was on the national do not call registry. He said he was with "Card Services," where they were was none of my business, and that he couldn't remove me from the list because I had pressed one, he didn't know who I was or what my number was, and that the do not call list didn't apply to them or me (he had someodd reasoning) and when I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager he hung up. They called one more time a week or so later, I pressed one and was immediately disconnected...and got no calls from them for about three months. Today I got a call once more, I had long ago added the number to my address book, and was suprised to see the call -- I thought perhaps that the long period of no calls had meant I had at least made a list internal to them -- but here they were, I pressed one to speak to one of them, asked the woman who came on the line "where are you located?" and was immediately disconnected.
This company/computer has been calling (often) for over a month. I'm not interested in anything they are selling...Why do they waste the telephone line time? I guess their overpriced products pay for all these calls.
Heather from account services like the other messages, when I heard the message I realized it was nonsense and hung up.
I answered the call - but nobody was there. What is the sense of the Do Not Call list if these types of calls still get thru?! Geez!!!!
I know how to stop them! I use a whistle and when I get a real person I use it. After they get their ear drums hurt then maybe the fools will quit calling and being rude. Its real good when you ask them to please turn the volume up on their headset because you have a problem speaking loud. Then use the whistle and hang up. Then go buy stock in hearing aids and you will be all set.
One could even keep the whistle on them for when you are shopping or just going anywhere and if needed you have something to get help fast. I have the phone number blocked with a old 386 type computer and a modem that has caller-Id and a program called PhoneTray and it works great. You can find thee program on the Internet.
I hung up on the caller
They were soliciting credit card interest rates.
. Pressed one to speak with customer service rep. Asked man who this was he said Financial Services. Auto message said hang on to lower your intrest rate. press one to speak with rep. Man hung up after I advised him, I was on Federal DO NOT CALL list. I am calling back and making SURE i am removed from the autodialer.
Didn't leave message on answering machine
We get this call all the time, we got it at least 15 times already in the last 3 weeks.
It's always the same message, sometimes different names:
"Hello, this is Heather from Account Services..."
"Hello, this is Rachel from Account Services..."
"Hello, this is John from Account Services..."
Today I pressed #1 and got a real person on the phone, who didn't answer any questions.
I asked what company this is - no answer.
I said "you call us all the time unsolicited and this is a violation of the DO-NOT-CALL-List of the FCC. Remove our number from your list".
Then he responded: "we are not selling anything, we are calling you because of your credit card".
I asked "which credit card is that"?
He answered "your VISA card".
VISA is the one card we don't have (bad guess! :-))
I told him "we dont have a VISA card".
He insisted that "there is a VISA card in your name".
Then I asked him "What is my name? Tell me my name."
He said "I will not tell you that, I am going to hang up now.".
Then I said "You don't know my name, you're calling unsolcited for a credit card we don't have. You know, what you do is illegal. Remove us from your list!"
And then he must have recognized my slight german accent and he said "You're not even from this country, I am calling INS.".
And he hung up.
Recorded message re: lower interest rate on credit cards. Obviously a scam.
called at 550pm on 12/3.........i did not answer, no message left........i am going to report to fcc
they didn't leave a message here
Same thing happened to me, they have called 10 different times. I press two to have our # removed and I still get calls. I finally pressed one and when I got \"Kevin\" on the phone I told him to take me off their list immediately and he hung up on me.
just found this program by a quick google search
I am being harrassed by a local person and have been getting calls from this person - the most recent befor today was someone calling to say \"you have not returned my call and this is a serious matter involving illegal use of copywrite material.\" refer to case #blahblahblah....
I figured this was tied into this harrassment as this woman is doing everything she can via the interet, websites etc and using ways to conceal her identity.
I have to wonder if there is someplace these people can get a service or program that shows a bogus number on caller id.
hang up call 1:38pm 12/3/07
No Message - They are violating the Do Not Call List.
Called and message indicated that my credit card interest rate would be reduced. I asked what company they were and the lady said all your companies. We do a debt consolidation. I told them no and hung up, when I called the number back the number is disconnected. Reported to donotcall.gov. Obviously a scam
this is an obvious phishing scam and receivers should report it
These idiots keep calling and leaving messages on my answering machine saying that my credit card account interest rate will go up if i do not call them. What a bunch of BS. Why are these stupid scammers not stopped. Don't we get charged fees by the local phone company called FCC charges for the prevention of such crap. Well I think we need to demand a full refund since obviously the phone companies are not doing the job we are paying them for. I don't know what's worse getting ripped off by the phone company or having these damn scammers try to rip us off.....WHAT A JOKE !!!
When I tried to call this number back, I got a message saying it was disconnected! So, I guess some telemarketer has figured out a way to put a fake number in the caller ID. I'll report it, but how are they going to fine a disconnected number?
After asking around, I found the company was attached to a web site calle "leveragemydebt.com"
Reported to donotcall.gov

Same as everyone else...
Caller ID Showed "Lynn Haven, FL." No message. Called number back twice, and it has been disconnected. There's definitely something crooked about that, and if someone calls from there again, I'll do what I can to determine who they are.
When scammers like this call me I get real vulgar with them and tell them what a piece of s**t they are and eat up their time until they hand up and they never call again. I use to be polite and they would keep calling. I am down to one scam call a month now. My elderly parents get these calls at least once a day because my Mother is always nice and polite. I like my way better.
850-271-8240. I have NO idea what they want to sell but they damn sure are rude. I called them right back and got a recording that says the number was disconnected. Jezzzzz, I wish I could get away with the BS these companies get away with.
Before opening hours. I didn't recognize the number or area code so I let it go to voice mail. They left no message. I have now blocked the number.
Heather from account services wants to lower our interest rates. She called our business line. Press 1, get nothing. Press 2 to be removed from further calls, get a busy signal. Call back, get a recording that the line has been disconnected. Why are there so many scammers in Florida, anyway? What are all those FCC fees I pay on my phone and cable doing for me? They're not stopping these types of companies and they're not keeping disgusting things (like ads for Herpes meds) off of after-school or prime-time television.
no person ever picked up on the line. dead air....hhheellllooooo

These morons wanted me to contact them regarding our credit card!and we should press #1 to speak to a customer service rep.Because this offer is for a limited time and the percentage rate would only be available for a limited time. Whats funny is we do not have any Credit Cards! This is what told me they are a scam! Beware!
it's some kind of scam
This is the same number as 954-752-3816; Meulens, Chantal they use fake telephone numbers. I think people should contract the FCC, FTC and FL state AG. What most likely needs to be done, there needs to be a trap put on someones phone line. Then when this phone number calls, then you could press the flash button the phone and call a special phone number and they would be able to do a true trace on where these phone calls are really coming from. Since the phone numbers are spoofed you are getting telephone numbers that are not in service. The one from Chantal Meulens number was from her disconnected phone. I have Comcast Digital Voice and I called both numbers back and they are both "Out of Service". The Meulens number could not have been out of service less than a minute after the call was hung up on. So there is something fishy going on. This needs to be reported to the authories!!!
IT STARTED WITH A RECORDING FROM "ACCOUNT SERVICES". I PUSHED #1 ON MY PHONE, AND GOT A LIVE PERSON NAMED MICHAEL. AS SOON AS I ASKED TO BE PUT ON THEIR DO NOT CALL LIST HE HUNG UP ON ME.
I pressed one and the rude customer service lady wouldn't answer any of my questions and then imformed me that I obviously wasn't interested in her services and hung up. How could I be interested, when she wouldn't tell me what she was offering? She couldn't tell me what company she worked for or how I get imformation. The message that you hear when you answer this number tells you they are calling about your credit cards...which have NO problems at the moment but could incur some later.
