Upon answering a call to the office (caller id displayed "out of area" - no phone number or name), they caller asked for is "Cindy Black." Said there was no one here by that name, nor ever worked here. He then asked for Accounts Payable, I asked who was calling, and he said "American Recovery." He said it was in regard to money that was due to a financial service and gave the loan number and the dollar amount. I asked what business he was calling and the name of the business he gave is not my office. I asked for the phone number he was calling and he asked what my number was; ah, no, you give me the number you are calling. After hanging up, called back again, and when I answered with the normal announcement, he hung up without answering.

Just received a call from this number saying it was ARS. They were assigned to collect on a debt that we had with one of our creditors not too long ago. HOWEVER, we paid the debt off through the creditor and both the creditor AND us have notified these people that we no longer owe this debt, yet they keep on calling at least once a day (3 times today, though) saying that they are calling regarding a debt and "information recently sent to you" and we "must call back today".

Called just now for my husband. We don't answer numbers we don't recognize. Said her name was "Ms. Parker" and that it was "required" that we call her back today at an 866 number and then her extension. Never mentioned what company she was with, where she was calling from or WHY she was calling.

The last thing the message she left said was "A ruling has been made on your behalf. If you wish to overturn it, you better call me back now." and she hung up.

Not even ONCE have we EVER gotten anything in WRITING from these people either so we have no clue as to what this is about and what "ruling" they would have been making.

these people use to only call once a week or so, that was until my husband spoke with them... they said that since we did not hang up the first time they called that we were admitting the fact that the person they were looking for lived here.... well the first few times they called our voice mail picked up.... the messege on the voice mail actualy says... "we are calling for "so and so" if you are not this person please hang up now, by not hanging up you are acknowledging that you are in did this person." ever since my husband spoke to this person they now call everymorning at 8 and every afternoon at 2

These people are bill collectors. After about 5 transfers through the "people chain", they really had no idea that who I was. They spent alot of time trying to locate me on on their computer. I feel as though as I have to eplain myself for having a bill collector calling me. So here it is...I worked for a company that bounced nearly all of the paychecks given to me, becuase i didn't know this, I cashed them. Because I had signed the back they tried to make me responsible for them,. What a joke. They were very curtious to me and will stop calling me.

Citizens: DO NOT write to this or any company asking them to stop calling or otherwise insist YOU validate their claim against you, it is a ruse designed for the sole purpose of having you admit your own guilt, anything in writing is legally binding, anything over the phone amounts to a personal conversation and has no bite legally. So, use call blocking, call rejection, or go through the hassle of changing your phone #...but NEVER write to these type of companies for ANY reason, if they have your number and a legitimate claim, chances are good they have your mailing address too...insist they mail to you a written document with all pertinent claims to you...see what they say...they expect you to believe what they are telling you, it doesnt mean it amounts to the truth. Good luck Citizens.

This number calls where I work and threatens me because I don't know the person they are looking for and can't help them. They are very threatening. They advised me that the police would be down to arrest me for helping out the person they are looking for. WTH?? I think they need to be stopped. This is ridiculous. This is illegal.
And to the "employee" of that company, "what goes around, comes around." Just remember that when you are threatening people and laughing because you scared someone.

They keep calling my house claiming they are the IRS and the name is Mr. Stone, however, I do not owe taxes. I even checked with the IRS. Who do you report this to? This has to be a federal offense to misrepresent yourself as a federal agency.

2007-11-02 14:44:15 UTCARS Employee

Hey Morons!

We will keep calling you until you deadbeats pay your bills.

That is unless you notify us in writing that you don't want us to call anymore.

Also we think you should ask us to validate the debt and request all information pertaining to the matter at hand.

Remember you have to write to us if you don't want us to call. This cannot be done via voice authorization.

Sincerely,

American Recovery Systems

2007-05-19 17:14:36 UTCJaycee

2007-04-13 15:36:26 UTCsara

NEVER GIVE A DEBT COLLECTOR YOUR BANKING OR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION! MAKE THEM VALIDATE THEIR CLAIMS!

2007-02-20 07:30:28 UTCKaren

5 different people called my office and left messages on President's Day (I had off work)This is a very persistent collection agency. This debt was already paid in full to another agency. Letter was provided showing it was paid. They will NOT stop calling!!!!

2007-02-17 13:07:47 UTCSally

A recording calls our number twice a day with this booming voice warning me not to hang up and saying it is imperative that I call him immediately.
He says his name is Tony Carbone and leaves his 800 number. Why can't these calls like this be stopped?
I been signed up on the DNC list since the very first and yet we still have to endure this rude and hateful person. Help.

2007-02-16 08:12:42 UTCJo

Hi, this message if for Andrew (not the name of anyone here). This is Mrs. Ferlan(?) I need you to call me here in my office today. The number is 1-800-638-5106 my direst extension is 1188.

Probably wanted to tell me I won Publishers Clearing House for 10 million. :)

2007-01-06 09:24:54 UTCRebel

The person left a message stating that she was Kelly Larson and wanted to be contacted at 1-800-837-1912 x1276.

2006-12-07 21:30:04 UTCNUMYA

This happened to me over 10 times at my employer. Same message that was posted by "J". VERY RUDE People!!

2006-11-28 13:01:07 UTCjeff

Very Rude

2006-11-18 17:17:05 UTCJ

The person who called left a voicemail saying they have a "serious matter at their office" that involves me. Saying it wasnt a sales call or anything. Very unprofessional, and when she attempted to say my name, it was just a muffling sound instead of "ms xxxx" the number she left was 866 513 3237 x1317

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
