I was sued by Asset acceptance in NY state court. I hired a consumer lawyer in Buffalo to assit me and I easily won my case saving me thousands of dollars. My lawyer told me these cases with debt buyers like asset acceptance are easy to beat.

My number is unlisted, I have DNC and have reported them several to that list. I wonder if they go to the same list and have a "search" device within their corporation to harass and bug people any hour of the day or night. At least when I didn't answer the phone.

ya. was asset acceptance bill collectors. They are retards. were calling for somebody that owned my phone number years ago. funny thing is that i have a cease and desists against them. I should just file complaint with attorney generals office just for the principle of it.

This is a Collection agency, plain & simple. (So the "Do not call registry" doesnt apply to them).
These guys buy up VERY OLD debts that are getting ready to expire from records & statutes of Limitations. If they find out it's infact you, they can restart the SOL Clock again and then they will not give up harrassing you. RECOMMENDATION: Screen your calls, Dont answer to strangers,
and for gods sake, take the "HI IT'S ME STEVE, LEAVE ME A MESSAGE" message off your machine!!!
Oh,... and stop leaving your name on this website when you comment,.. they look at this space too!
Good luck

As far as I can tell, these are all the same company. Allied Acceptance: AKA Asset Acceptance, AKA Apollo Group, AKA First National Collection Bureau, AKA Midland Credit...who knows what other names & phone numbers they are using. So far area codes are: 845, 425 & 775. They buy very old, uncollectible debt, paid or not, & hound you with threats to ruin your credit, sue you, etc., but refuse to provide proof or stop the harassment no matter what action you take to stop them. More than one representative has admitted to me that they know they're breaking the law. Why isn't there a law to force them to prove to the credit reporting agencies that the debt is legitimate before they can add it to your credit report. I've wasted more time trying to clean up my credit after the insane, unwarranted, illegal, vicious damage they've done. They even have the nerve to add it to your credit report if your name just sounds similar to the person who actually owns the debt. The best advise I can give is DON'T EVEN PICK UP THE PHONE, don't speak to them, DON'T ADMIT ANYTHING (THEY CAN START THE SOL CLOCK AGAIN),don't even have your name on your answering machine. Once they connect your name with your number, it snowballs out of control from one agency to several. Good luck, you'll need it.

THEY CALLED ME OUT MY NAME AND WAS ASKING FOR A DEBT FROM BACK WHEN I WAS 16 YEARS OLD. IM LIKE DUDE I WAS NOT AT A LEGAL AGE TO EVEN THINK ABOUT CREDIT. HE CALLED ME A B*TCH AND SAID PAY ME OR GET SUED. I JUST HUNG UP.

2008-08-11 23:56:48 UTCd.

I answered the phone and it was an attempt to collect a debt for Presidents Health club from 1981. I told him the time had passed and he started calling me a f'ing bi*ch and those were the nicer words he used.

If you see caller ID for this number DO NOT ANSWER IT. This is somewhat of a scam, AACC buys old debts and tries in vain to collect on them. If you acknowledge the debt they immediately open the debt back up, and guess what, it is now showing on your credit report. What they're doing is not illegal, but it does skirt the law. If you answer just deny the name and tell them not to call back, unless you want an old debt that sometimes be over ten years old back on your credit report.

Go to 800notes.com and learn about these con artists and criminals then go to donotcall.gov and file a complaint against them with the Federal Government

Oh, by the way, after they hung up when I did not answer, I called back on my cell phone and got through. After explaining to the operator about what was going on (and wasting minutes), he said he would take my number off of their list. I'll believe it when I see it.

There is a deadbeat out there who calls herself "Angela Cool". It appears that somehow when AT&T gave me a new phone number, when I got back home nearly two years after Katrina, they gave me HERS. I have been harassed by Sallie Mae/General Revenue Corp/RCC at 317-806-8712 since January 16, 2008.

Were it not that I have already established my number with numerous business connections, I would change it imediately.

Fortunately, I spoke with a live person today, and explained to him about this "Angela" business. I told him that I have written to the other collection agencies concerned (to take me off their lists), the FTD, and Equifax about this harassment. Also, I told Equifax about the reports people have been making to "Who Called Us" since 2006, about how these collection agencies are making cold calls without sending anything in writing beforehand.

I have no clue who or what they want. When I questioned the caller she said "Oh, your just screening our calls" and then hung up.

2008-07-11 22:56:53 UTCFRANK

I answered and a taped recording came on for (an unknown person) and then said "by staying on the line you are acknowledging ... {I hung up}

I finally answered other times I have tried answering they hang up. I have an unlisted phone # and I thought it was a telemarketer and I am on do not call list and I was going to tell them so then they tell me that we owe this credit card debt from like 7+ yrs. ago and I got mad and told them prove that i owe it i paid it in full. they said that is not their job that i needed to show them documentation and I said i don't keep documents that long and they need to prove that I still owe the debt. they asked how i paid i said check, i should have said none of his business and he said then go get a copy of the check...well duh the bank needs a date and amount. and I told him i was not going to pay for that service and that it was thier responsibility and the co. that hired them to verify that i do indeed owe this debt still. I also told him my phone was legally unlisted I pay for that service and he said not anymore and i also told him i felt harassed by this phone call and he said that is our job we are debt collectors and I said well i have a relative with the attorney generals office of this state and I was going to report them to her and see what could be done I said sir do not call again have a good day and hung up. So, I am going to record everytime they call and what they say.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
