- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:

Received call yesterday from a foreign speaking person saying that he was with Microsoft and that my pc security was breached by an email virus and that if I called this number they could provide more information. The interesting thing was that I was at my aged father's house when the call came in on his phone. My father does not have a computer and the caller had my fathers first initial and last name associated with his number. Just an FYI
Called about either warranty or credit scam. Hard to tell because woman's voice was automated and instructions for what to do next ("press 1, stay on the line," etc.) weren't clear.

Hey guys its another big scam here. Its a giant scam that are trying to get you so that they can use your information somewhere else so be very careful. Identity theft is now the fastest growing crime at this particular time so beware about just ignore no matter how much they call you. All this are carbage scam.
I get calls from this and sevral other numbers I suggest someone set up a computer to do a traceroute or backtrace of the number when they are called, hint give your computer the ability to answer a call to your phone that already receiving these calls. I believe that there is a virus right now spread across cell phones and thats how they are getting the number [it's just a guess but you tell me if you have a virus checker on your cell] {thats what i thought} anyway I say fight fire with fire or in this case a computer with a computer. If you track down the ip these ppl are using you can call there isp and have them trace the ppl and shut them down as well as turn them over to the police.
THIS IS A SCAM!
They will spam call you from numbers such as:
"818-870-5081", "208-783-0733", "704-456-1307", "714-495-4815", "863-904-4825", and "509-935-0671", there are even more listed on my cell phone at this moment.
NEVER GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION ABOUT YOU
Warranty Scammers
818-870-5081 called cell. Ignored. No message.
Just got a call from 818-870-5081 on my cell phone. I did not recognize the number so I googled it and found your website. Looks like another scam sales call. Glad I didnt answer it.
These scumbags call our office and my cell phone. I'll try filing a complaint with the FTC and get my cell on the do not call list (like that will matter).
i hate ppl calling my phone from cali
Called me at work. Didn't answer and dind't leave a message. Must have been important... *sigh*
They called my cell while I was working. I saw the number and hit "Ignore"
called day before yesterday, yesterday as well as today...
called today... no message
Called my cell while i was at work didnt answer.
My mobile phone was called. I Googled the area code (818), which showed San Fernando Valley, California. Since I don't know anyone there, I didn't answer. They did not leave a message.
This call came in on our cell phone!
called, but I didnt answer.they didnt leave a voice message
Goddamn it!
They always calls my private cellphone. I already did with "Do-not-call" but some of them keep calling me. I hate it. Don't call me again.
Called my private workphone every day for weeks. Everytime i press 1 to speak to someone im comnected to a live rep and asked for my car make and modle. When i ask the name of the company im hungup on every time. When i give them fake info they also eventualy just hang up on me.
I started calling the numbers back but only get an automated message.
Eventualy they stopped calling but today i got a call from the same people on my cell phone.
So has my girlfriend. I think they're just war dialing every number in an area code.
Since they're using up our minutes, can we send them a bill for the $0.02 (or whatever) plus a $25.00 service charge. When they fail to pay up, we then report the unpaid debt to the credit reporting companies!
isn't someone reading all these comments...why haven't they been stopped yet?!?!
Calls to my cell.
Do not answer to validate call.
WARRANTY SCAM.
they call me almost every day, including weekends, about SIX AM!! GRRRR!
have been getting calls everyday including weekends for the last month from 9 different #'s. I ask to be taken off the list but they keep calling.
Here is the name, address and number of the company responsible -
Extended Auto Warranty
corporate - 954-423-3700
sales - 954-449-2664
1868 N. University Dr. Ste. 304
Plantation, FL. 33322
Call corporate and you can talk to the secretary. I have been calling every hour to see how they like it. Lets all do it and tie up their lines!
Better yet, I filed complaints w/ the FCC and FTC. It takes a few minutes, but if they get enough complaints maybe something will be done about it, so please do it...
ftccomplaintassistant.gov
fcc.gov
I did not recognize the number so I didn't answer. No message. I have received several warranty scam calls in the past few weeks.
I called back thinking it was someone I knew because they didn't leave voicemail and when I figured it was a scam call, I tried hanging up and it wouldn't let me HANG UP!!! That was SCARY.
Auto dialing of cell phone numbers is illegal. You can add your cell phone number to the DoNotCall list and complain at ftc.gov. But this company ignores the list. All my phones are on the list and all get this scammer. If enough people complain to the FTC, maybe something will be done: ftccomplaintassistant.gov
Called business cell phone; when answered they hung up.
2 times in 3 days ! ! This is starting to tick me off.
today...no message
No Message, have called several times in the last few weeks; I havent tried removing myself from list--called it back once and it said...mid-sentence that if you wanted to be removed from preferred calling list, then please press one.
I receive calls from this number two to three times a week, first one received on my cell phone today. Although I have pressed option two several times, to be removed from the list, they continue to call. Spoke to a representative last week, acting as though I was interested but was unable to find the full company name. Representative told me their company name was the National Warranty Center and they provide the warranty's for the big three auto companies.
HAHAHAHAHA! Dumb@$$es! They called me, and I have a 15 year old Honda! Today was call number three today. This is getting irritating.
These d***heads call and burn my money (minutes) to try selling me something I wont buy (I dont own a car!). IT chaps my a**!
Just got a call from them, 4 p.m. EST on my CELL PHONE
Not really sure how they are getting some of this information. I got a call from this number on a work cell phone number that I don't give out to people (its a government number and is only used for emergencies/field visits, so it is never put on forms that usually ask for the kind of info).
Anyway, known scam. Next call they will get the obligatory "its a federal offense to solicit to this phone number, please remove it" response.
This is a scam operation operated out of Tempe,AZ I believe. The numbers it uses are not the correct ones, but are non-working or other numbers. These change to avoid call blocking, and they use auto dialers to get any mobile or unlisted numbers. This operation also calls about other scams such as credit card and insurance. DO NOT GIVE any information to these people. They want your idenity information. You also can get charged just by entering any information like pushing a button. They will bill you through you phopne company, but it can be taken off your bill if you protest.
annoying automated recording!!! Wish they would stop ringing me!!
I returned the call and the recording said "press 1 if you want to be taken off our call list". I pressed one. Then I noticed I was charged ten cents for something. Dammit.
Who is giving out cell #'s and how do we make it stop?
Some Marketing Scam
I thought telemarketing calls to cell phones were illegal?
This is a huge scam and i would wish you would stop callin my phone..
Warranty Scam saying Warranty was about to expire on vehicle which had expired years before. :)
if you are not aware of it it is against FCC regulations for businesses to spam your cell phones unless you first call them.
i received one of them calls from 818-870-5081 and rudely informed them that th enext time i was called by them i would be seeing them in court and it seemed to deter them.
this is a second phone call to my cell from these people trying to get info and to sell me warrantry service, i will be very rude when i do answers theses
Called on 3-12-09, no message. I got another warranty call from (253)964-6881 today 3-16-09
Called on 3-16-09, no message left.
I have been receiving many calls from this number, to my cell phone, about the manufacture warranty expiring on my truck. Well, that expired six years ago. I am getting the same calls from 3 or 4 other numbers. It is automated and I keep selecting the option to stop calling, and then the calls start from another number. It is definitely a scam. And I am on the donotcall list also but it's not stopping them.
It was a call to my cell phone, which is brand new and NO ONE has my number yet.
Didn't answer.
Called my cell phone @1540CT. Activated secret anti-spammer device, shocked the beejeezus out of phone operator. Do not expect further contact from this caller.
website is donotcall.gov
I just got a call from this number a few minutes ago at 3:34 P.M. I did not answer as I immediately thought it was a spam telecommunicator phone call. No message was left on my phone. Never do. from all the spam phone calls I've been getting. It's really annoying. One way to stop it is to register at donotcall for free. Haven't done that, but I should as these phone calls seem like they are never going to stop trying to call and spam people.
got a call on my cell @ 3.09 and 3.30 pm did not answer
I got a call from this number a few days ago. It was a pre-recorded message about my auto warranty renewal. I don't have an auto-warranty. Got one today from 909 650 9185. I did not answer, but found a post on this website that it is the same or similar outfit (pre recorded auto warranty call)
Unfortunately there is nothing to prevent anyone from dialing any theoretical number at random. Chances are they didn't get anyone's info but just wrote a computer program to dial every possible US number. Unfortunately I don't think there is much that can be done to stop this practice, and even the source number can be faked easily thanks to VOIP.
Automated call selling auto warranties, which wastes your minutes.
They called my cell again today, fortunately I wasn't able to answer. I've added them to my phone list under Spam auto warranty so if they call again, I'll know not to answer.
Automated call selling auto warranties. Called again today on my cell phone (which costs me per minute)
missed a call from that number but got one from 219-253-2323 about factory warrenties on cars. I don't even own a car!
Claire bear is right. But my home ph # IS registered in the National Do-Not-Call list and it seems to not be doing the trick anymore, the more #'s I report, it seems the more #'s they come up with. Here's a thought, why don't they fine THE PHONE COMPANIES instead of the telemarketers. Then we'll see how fast the unwanted calls stop. Note: for years the phone companies have sold our data to them, then sold us Caller ID, then sold THEM unlisted #s then sold US anonymous call rejection, then...
Factory warranty expiration on your vehicle! Last warning! This spammer needs to experience a medieval torture rack. I've received calls from this number on my home phone, my cell phone, and the retail store where I work has also received these calls from this number (and other numbers).
i got a call from this number this morning. Didnt answer
?
Received a call from this number this morning. It sounded like all the other "the warranty on you vehicle" nonsence. I usually get them from a female. Don't know this time, didn't answer. If I don't know it I don't answer and if they must get a hold of me they can leave a message. But I'm wondering the same thing as pj, who's giving out cell numbers?
Its a Scam!
Different numbers, same auto insurance scam: 866-147-9959, 201-917-7310, 949-256-9153, 818-870-5081
I don't answer these. If I don't know them, they can take a hike. Don't waste your minutes on these idiots.
I just got one. Your car warrentee is fine, by the way.
It seems as though some poor mad idiot is either A) buying random numbers from altel, cricket, UScellular, etc. and using them to 1) steal credit card numbers off of cells 2) annoy you to the extent of worrying for your life. OR B) calling out random numbers using new hacking technology to seem like a buisness in order to 1) steal your credit card numbers 2) look good in front of his hacking buddies.
This is deffinately not a terrorist attack (as someone so kindly suggested), but bigger then a child toying with it's mother's cell (obviously). Someone should call the FBI before this gets out of hand (even more so) and stop this. Sorry, I won't, because I'm only 15 and will be mistaken for a scoundrel playing a trick.
It was a call to my cell.
It was a machine that said my vehicle's warranty might be expiring. I've received the same message from several other numbers calling me.
called my CELL! who is giving out cell numbers?
