They call every day at least once. I don't answer and they never leave a message. Thanks to this site, I will likely answer next time and tell them nothing whatsoever and demand they take me off their call list.

This number 815-380-9505 showed up at my work number and said they were from Verifax. They stated they are calling to get update address information for banks and insurance companies. Ask to verify my personal home address. Caught me off guard I did not verify and they hung up.

This number, 815-380-9603 & 815-516-8767 is a company in Illinois called Verifax. Warning they are a shady company that digs into the backgrounds of people and then sells the information to the highest bidder. I have found that they often will play "both ends to the middle", i.e. hired by one company to do background checks on a person then they sell this information to sleazy attorney's that specialize in shady collection practices. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFORMATION IF THEY CALL.

I received a call at my job from some named Linda Mason at a company called Verifax (or Verifacts ?sp) stating she needed to update her records regarding a "personal business matter". I told her if it was "personal" then she should in no way be contacting me at my "professional" number. She simply stated she would note the file and hung up. Probably another collection agency.

I did a little Googling and the name of this company is actually VeriFacts. They are a skip-tracing company hired by collection agencies to find people. Here is their info:

A woman from this company (I assume it was the same---I do not have caller ID) called me this morning and asked for my father. I replied that he had been dead for 2 years. She wanted to know if he was the owner of a property and gave me my father's old address. I told her that the property now belonged to me and my brothers. She wanted to know if someone named Andy David lived there. I replied no. She said "well, perhaps this is old information." I replied that no, my parents bought the house new and there was never someone with that name living there and that the current renters did not have that name. I asked what this was all about, and she said that her company updated address information for banks, credit card companies, etc. I asked where she had gotten the information about my father's address and my phone number. She said she couldn't say. Eventually, she let me speak to her supervisor, who said her name was Marie Garza. I expressed extreme concern that this person (Andy David) had given someone my father's address and my phone number. She said that the person had not given them this information; that it was listed as his contact information in the past and they were just verifying it.Marie wouldn't tell me where they got my information. She said that sometimes they used real estate listings, phone book listings etc. I asked her if that was so, how they got my phone number (since it was not listed in my father's name). She said she couldn't tell me. I asked her why she couldn't tell me. She said she couldn't tell me that either. She then said the company had all the information they needed from me and they would not be contacting me again. I said I didn't have all the information I needed from them. She said she was now ending the call. Before she could do that, I asked how to spell the name of the company and asked what her last name was. She told me, then ended the call.

July 15th, 2009 WTF

They are now calling from 815 380 9603 also! I don't know how or why they called my cell number or how they got it, but they had the wrong name!

June 16th, 2009 Sir K AZ

They just called, they had my name and said they wanted to verify the address. I asked why, they replied,"we have some firms that want to send out faxes and they wanted to have a confirmed address." I googled the company while she spoke on the line and I didn't see anything right away. After she repeated a request for me to verify, I finally said,"I'm not comfortable giving out information to people I don't personally know." She said," I understand." "Thank you".

This called came in about 4:00pm today. They ask for an unknow person to me. I only had this cell number for 4 months, So it had to be the person before me. They claim that they were a verifying company who verifies name and adres, in a rude sarcastic voice, as if I should not ask any questions. Well it seems to me that they are hire to gather information for collection agencies. OMG. companies will do anything now a days. If they call again, I will report them for harrassment. If an employer hire them to perform a background check, then people should have second thoughts about working for that employer because these people are rude and curt and do not do a goo job in trying to facilate information.

Asked for a former employee. I said "There's no one here by that name." They hung up.

They call twice a day. They are a skip trace firm for collectors. If you are avoiding collections...do not answer when you see Verifax or unknown caller.

This lady called from this company a Sarah Ridge looking for my husband. Said she was from Verifax and asked for our mailing address, gave her the PO Box and then she wanted to know if he still works for a company that he only worked at for 3-4 months 10-12 years ago! If this is really someone from a collection company....boy oh boy they are not good at their job!!!! Oh well if the lady calls back I may not be quite so friendly next time. I am glad I am not the only one that receives these weird calls.

July 24th, 2008 Laura

I asked why the lady wanted to verify my address? She said it was for Verifax. I asked if this is for marketing? The caller stated "no" just for verification. I said if it is for marketing, "you will be taken off the mailing list" and she hung up.

When I answered, woman said "yes, I don't know if I'm calling the right number maam. I am looking for a Robert Ludlow?" I said, "Nope, not at this number". They did get a wrong number, but if they really were trying to locate his person, why would they pre-empt their request with an explanation? Strange. I usually don't answer CID's like that. But, we just applied for a mortgage and thought they might be verifying some info.

They called me at work. They ask for my current address and phone number. They said they were an indepedent company hired to verify address and phone number. What puzzle me is how they got my work number. I never gave it to anyone.

February 9th, 2007 Jake VA

I never answer "Unknown Name" calls. This number just rang, and left no message

February 1st, 2007 CHARLES TX

THEY CALLED MY NUMBER AND HUNG UP. WHEN I CALLED BACK THEY SAID THEY WERE A FIRM THAT VERIFIES #S AND ADDRESSES. HOWEVER WHEN I GAVE THEM MY NAME AND TELEPHONE NUMBER THEY COULDNT FIGURE OUT WHY THEY WERE CALLING. THEY SAID MY NUMBER WASNT IN THEIR SYSTEM. BUNCH OF CRAP. IF MY NUMBERS NOT IN YOUR SYSTEM, WHY DID YOU CALL.

January 11th, 2007 Paul

They are a skip tracing firm. Either a collection firm hired them, an employer performing a background check.

January 9th, 2007 Jacque

Someone called our number from this number asking for my husband and he wasn't here. I asked if I could take a message and then they asked if our address was still the same and that they would get in touch with him through the mail.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker or something like Nomorobo.
