I'd received an evening call from CA FOP 8/19/10 using (714) 551-5699.

Tonight I received a call from CA FOP from (805) 309-5544. Corporations for Character (dot) org is the national fundraising company for the FOPs; others who've researched this say that approximately 27-30% of each dollar goes to CA FOP. With such a small percentage of the donation going toward charity, it's better to find other orgs/ ways to donate. It may be a non-profit technically, but not in spirit. CA FOP is not listed on Charity Navigator or GuideStar. Who knows - maybe murietta is right, no tax deductions?!

Reading the American Institute for Philanthropy articles on charitywatch.org -- doing a search on the FTC's ""Operation Phoney Philanthropy" -- checking the FTC's charity fraud web page will give you an idea of the type of unethical fundraising occurring here.

Any donations made to this organization are not tax deductible.

This phone number is calling to do fund raising for the California State Fraternal Order of Police. I have called the number. It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions, help you donate, or anything else related to the FOP. Also, there’s information on cafop.org. Plus, you can contact them there with any questions or requests.
The FOP is doing a lot of really great things for California police officers and the people that call are trying to help them raise money so they can do even more good.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
