In 2010 less then 1% went to Police Charity and they the Police Protective Fund pocketed 4.3M out of the 4.4 Million they collected. They don't operate from a Virhinia number anymore the FEDS and the real police shut them down. Now they call from either a Florida (727)863-5033 number or some state where the AG hasn't gone after them yet. File a complaint with your State AG office if you gave them money. All you are doing is lining their pockets. They have been operating this SCAM for over 10 years and claim they have collected over 40M . Most of the money going to 4 people and 1 address in Florida.

Raising money for officers KIA. I never give to charities that call...and I always ask what % goes to the actually charity. He said close to 100% but hesitated to send me any info. Said he wanted to get a "commitment" on an amount before he mailed anything. Most of these "police" charities are scams.

This call started "Hello I am calling from the police protective fund and this call is being recorded for security purposes." I said, "sorry, you have reached a business" he said, "well can I speak to your manager or supervisor" I said, "I am the manager" he said, "well this benefits the police and we asking $25 to help..." I interrupted, "please put me on your do not call list" He said, "sir, this is the police and we ..."

The guy wouldn't stop. The phone number 804-225 exchange is similar to a Commonwealth of Virginia exchange in Richmond so to some 'victims' this may seem intimidating but just remember - IT'S A SOCIAL ENGINEER/SCAM ARTIST that they are hiring to make the calls. Say "put this number on your do not call list" and hang up before he responds (he will not call back)

These guys SAY they are for Police, but they are only for lining their own pockets. Checking the Internet, less than 10% of all donations go to their programs.

Just for the record, I NEVER answer these calls. It just gives them a time to call again when someone might be home. (They only let it ring 3X tonight.) They'll never get an answer here. People, with the advent of Caller ID, we have the option to NOT EVER ANSWER calls we don't know/aren't interested in - USE IT!! I never answer any number I don't know; if they want me so badly, they'll leave a message. Plus, if they DO leave a message, I delete it (matching call time to vm time). They are not worth my time and energy and they can call 'til the cows come home - their call will NEVER be answered!! If more of us just didn't answer all these phishing scams, maybe more of them will fall off the map.

Please be aware that this company has been written up for poor "charity" practices. Apparently something like only 5% actually goes to the charity (Police Protection or whatever) and the rest is squandered on "advertising" and such. (NOTE: I've NEVER seen it advertised anywhere!) Okay. The "Police Protective Fund" is a legitimate 501c3 non-profit charitable organization. They offer a $10,000 death benefit to the families of officers killed in the line of duty in a few states scattered nationwide. What they don't tell you on the phone is that the officers have to sign up to receive the benefit and in most cases don't even know it's available to them. The people who used to call you were actually United Funding Organization, a company subcontracted to call and raise funds for the charity. I think we used to keep 75% of the money raised. UFO (United Funding Organization) recently purchased the PPF (Police Protective Fund) and are now calling on behalf of themselves. This is a VERY profitable business with hardly any expenses. Think about it: How many officers are killed in the line of duty in the 3-4 states they can call in each year? Out of those, how many have signed up for the benefit they are never told they have the right to receive? Even if they pay a benefit to a family, so what? That's $10,000, not a big deal when you pull in 6 million + plus a year! More power to them! It's tough to make money in this economy...I wish I would have thought of it first!

Caller said his name was Gregg Michael from Richmond, VA representing the Police Protective Find. I asked for tax ID he gave me 472864416. He then told me that others were using their name and I could also check out web site Polie USA.com. I asked for his phone number 804-225-9092 but Phone Caller ID listed it as Graphic Lab. He wanted a $15.00 donation, he is sending me info on his org. which I asked for.

just got a call from POL project today. didnt pick up because numbers that dont start with 540 i never do.

They have phoned my cell phone twice. I can return their calls, but I cannot leave a message as their mailbox is full. I have never given them permission to phone my cell phone.

My mother got the rudest call from "The Pol Project" -- I had her hang up and took over -- I asked the swine to identify himself and he said "I just did five times" -- I wanted to know who he was representing -- he would not say -- he kept asking for my mother's name repeatedly -- very rude and shady. I told him to go to hell and hung up. Some phone set-ups are not listed on the National Co Not Call Back List -- I think they go through the internet. As mentioned on this page, we can block the specific number.

I'm so tired of the bad guys being able to do anything they want -- and we are left with the hassle of trying to do something. The phone company does not know how solicitors can have unknown caller ID. I don't know if the FCC can help us. But this and other solicitations are maddening! I keep receiving calls from 804-225-9092 "The POL Protect" every night. When I answer they hang up. I called back and left a message to remove me from their calling list. Their answering machine does say they are with the Police. If they are why would the Richmond Police be calling people in Fredericksburg to look for donations?

This is a supposed fund raiser for Police. They would not give any additional information. I told them I would not donate via telephone and they would need to send info via mail. I don't think these guys are legit, otherwise why would they not have a caller ID of Graphics Lab?

The Police Protective Fund uses a caller ID showing up as "GRAPHICS LAB" -- a creatively deceptive technique giving the impression it's a call from a medical office, another type of graphics business, or a photo lab.

I don't buy that these are people asking for donations or are charity-related whatsoever. My main reason is because I specifically have this number BLOCKED from calling me (due to the ridiculous amount of calls I get from them!) and they are STILL able to call me! The so called "Graphics Lab" doesn't even exist. The 804 area code is based in Richmond, VA and there is no company that matches that name whatsoever. Even if it WAS legit, how would they be able to call a residence who has specifically put that number on their call block list? Impossible. That means they're forging the number/name that they are calling from and that confirms this is a fraud. NO legitimate business of any kind would take illegal steps to conceal their identity and you need specific equipment to be able to do that also.

Probably usual deal, though some are claiming this particular org may even be a fraud - at best they probably give pennies on the dollar to the cause and pocket a vastly larger share for themselves. Pretty stupid they keep calling people on the do not call list (yeah, they're not required to obey it as fundraisers, but still stupid). Even more stupid are people who give out money to some chucklehead who just called them! Just don't do it. Give to the charity of your choice directly, or better yet, just hook up with United Way or some reputable organization and tell these idiots to go pound salt.

The local CBS Affiliate TV station did a story on this group since they have a office in Richmond, Va . It seems the group only gives 15% of their money to the Police & uses the other 85% for EXPENSES. Is this what you want in a supposedly "charitable organization"??? I received a call from this number on April 8, 2008. Before that I have received similar calls back in 2003 but not from the same number. I have not answered the calls and no message is left on my voice mail. But EACH TIME I receive a call I report it to the FTC using their online complaint format. I provide the date and time of the call.

The reputation of this organization is no better today than it was in 2003 - and that is VERY POOR. This outfit tries to stay just below the police radar. They meet few of the Better Business Bureau standards. They hide behind phone numbers that are hard to trace. Their executives receive high salaries. Fund raising costs are a very high percentage of their income. The list goes on.

If more people would complain the FTC just might get the idea these kind of calls annoy people and they are fraudulent in nature. It doesn't take a minute to report the calls.

Just got a call from these people(during my nap). Went into his spiel and then said "Can you help us out" and I said "no, sorry" and hung up.

I'm receiving these calls constantly---so much so that I specifically BLOCKED the number! (804-225-9092, shows "GRAPHICS LAB" on Caller ID). Even after successfully BLOCKING the number, the calls continue. This means that whomever is calling is SPOOFING the number they are calling from as well as any Caller ID information that is listed. Apparently there is no law that can stop this or make this act illegal. I was advised to contact my local Congress Rep to alert them of the problem. I did, and got a letter in return stating this is a known issue that is being debated still since last year and that our letters and comments should keep on coming to further prove that citizens are still getting these calls and don't like it!

I no longer answer the phone unless I know who's calling. Sad that it's come to that.

Got a call from (804) 225-9092 on 12/13/2007. Caller id read The Pol Protect. I wasn't home when the call came, but I've been harrassed by this group before. It would be cool if someone can get proof of the caller claiming to be a detective so that he can be brought up on charges for impersonating a police officer.

Called here repeatedly today, at least 5 times. Each time it reaches my fax. The last call, I picked up quickly and the person asked me whether this was the parts department. I told them no, private home, on the do not call list, that they'd already called at least 4 times.
Then I called the number back and listened to their recorded message, and told them the same thing. Do not call list, etc. It is the Police Protection Agency for their 'Public Awareness' program. Several years ago, I bought advertising in their information booklet, never received my copy, never had any contact from the police to whom I donated product, nothing. When I pushed several years ago, I learned they are based in Chicago and contracted with Fairfax County Police Benevolent Assn.

Attorney General Jay Nixon filed a suit Tuesday against a California organization that allegedly uses harassing and intimidating tactics to solicit donations from Missourians.

The suit, against Hollywood, Calif.-based Police Protective Fund Inc. (PPF), was filed in St. Louis Circuit Court. The American Association of Police Officers is also named as a defendant in the lawsuit. According to Nixon, the association is the administrative home for PPF and receives management fees from charitable donations received by PPF.


According to Nixon's office, telemarketers working for PPF have made numerous calls into Missouri, representing that donations will help the families of law enforcement officers who die in the line of duty through PPF's $10,000 "Line-Of-Duty Death Benefits" program.

PPF took in more than $5.9 million in nationwide donations last year but only paid $37,000 through the benefits program to the families of police officers killed in 2006, according to a release from Nixon's office.

The lawsuit asks the court to order the defendants to stop any telemarketing calls that violate Missouri law. Nixon also is seeking an order for the defendants to pay full restitution to any Missouri consumers who were harmed by the defendants' actions, and to pay civil penalties and court costs deemed appropriate by the court.

They called and asked for {my name}. I spoke spanish, they spoke spanish back. When i said "no gracias" several times, the man asked if he could talk to {my name}. I just said no gracias and hung up. I am on the DNC list.

If you want them to stop either speak in a made up language and say no speak english or speak in a jumbled up language I have been call free for 3 years. :) Do not talk spanish or french or a known language because they will bring someone on the phone to talk to you just jumble words or speak as a person with mental disabilities. :) They wanna have fun you have fun with it too. Its kinda like getting stopped for speeding and have a dead body in the trunk and only getting in trouble for speeding not murder. If you want to give to the police or to their families call your local precinct directly or drive by there and ask them for where you can make donations.

ftc.gov It makes no difference if you are on the DNC-Do Not Call List. It does not cover charities. So if they want to solicit something that is okay but ifthey want to sell you something they should not call. I think Fed Govt needs to rethink law or not be so lenient in definiing charity.

I have used this tactic with others. I pick up but don't say anything. When they finally speak I start tapping the phone with my fingernail. They ask if I can hear them- I just keep tapping. They hang up and usually don't call back. (they sound frustrated)May have to do this routine a few times.

Person said that he was helping families of fallen police officers. I let him go on talking for a few minutes while the phone was sitting on my desk unattended. Then, I picked the phone up and he was still talking so I hung up.

Identified themselves as a charity for families of police officers fallen in the line of duty. Asked if it would be OK to send a decal and donation slip. I asked why they need permission because mail solicitors usually just send. Said needed to verify address. Then, he told me my address and asked again if he could send donation slip. I asked are you marking a predetermined amount on that slip and billing me and he said yes. I declined and reported it.

Like everyone else, phone rang twice, I answered and they hung up. They called at 4:17 PM on 1/12/07. I don't know if I'm on the DNC list--but hope I'm not. What is this all about?

This group calls continuously to solicit money for the Police Protection Fund. They called last year, asked to speak to me and when my husband asked who was calling, they identified themselves as from another entity and were calling to thank me. However, when he handed the phone to me, they identified themselves as representatives from the Police Protection Fund and asked for a donation. They called again a few weeks ago and I spoke to a representative told them that we were not donating as we'd received calls before, the callers misidentified themselves and we were comfortable giving. The caller got very indignant and said they had a federal ID number and the name appearing as Graphics Lab was a mistake they had been fighting to correct. I still refused to donate and he hung up. However, they called again today.

I had calls from these people for it seems like years. I look at caller ID and never answer. Now they don't wait for my answering machine to pick up. They hang up after two rings. Slime balls.

I've gotten calls from this before...I am on the DNC. No message, previously was in "Anywho" as a lady in Richmond VA (no listing now), call the number and you get a voicemail box (which of course is full from all the people who don't want them to call).

This is not a legit police call. They call all the time. Our local police have told us never to give them anything, but they continue to harrass with calls.
