Who Called Us

I recently posted my private phone number of a car sales website to sell my car. Ever since I have getting this phone call which says I have won a trip to the carribean and to press 9. I just keep hanging up. Anyone know how to get rid of them.

Just got a call yesterday from these guys, pre-recorded message telling me i had won a trip to florida, press 9 to connect, operator repeats prize info and asks for my full name, DOB, address, CC info, at which point I end the call. I am reporting this from Australia, yes they are targeting people overseas now, have attempted to report this through phone company and police here but they tell me there is basically nothing they can do. IMHO this is more like an identify theft scam than just a holiday/CC type scam. IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS! AND A GENUINE PRIZE WON'T REQUIRE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO TO AWARD YOU THE PRIZE, IF THEY ALREADY HAD YOUR INFO TO HAVE YOU IN THE DRAW, WHY DO THEY NEED TO CONFIRM IT? THINK ABOUT IT, IF YOU GET ASKED TO CONFRIM YOUR INFO TELL THEM TO TELL YOU WHAT INFO THEY HAVE AND YOU WILL CONFIRM IT FOR THEM, IF THIS WAS A GENUINE PRIZE THEY WOULD HAPPILY DO SO.

Although I professional do promtions calls at least it's starting fresh, and NOT a recording from a machine and this is what's people are upset about. My phone promotions are friendly, we thank the person for their time and see if they need our type of service. We started to get these calls since the new year and I'm tired of it. As soon as I see this number I pick up and hang up in a quick manner. Not only that I recieve phone calls, calling in saying your number is on my call display; They either want the service or not then I keep on going. We do have a DO NOT CALL LIST and we keep on a very close eye on it. Not only that the people that work here get a payroll cheque and they should be working and not making arrangements to go on a cruise!

Something told me not to pick up, left no msg on voice mail, reverse search gave location as landline just off Main St. in Bennington, VT.

Phone rings 4 times,
Pick up line, no voice at other end, Say Hello, pause ,say Hello again,
System(Dialer) plays greeting "You have won a free trip to carribean cruise, press 9 to claim your 'Prize'
Press 9, system plays acknowledgemt voice (Female) Please hold, thank you for pressing '9'....
holding musak repeats every 40 seconds (timed between pauses).
GAve up after 10 minues, possible telephone fraud, but not sure.

Quick information about the call I received

Pre-recorded advertisement.
Talked to "Donna" asking how they got my number, she said one of three ways;
1. Having "Preferred status" on Visa, Master Card, or American Express
2. Person referred our Name and Number
3. Someone we know attended a Time share presentation

She did not know the name of the computer program which calls us.
Did not know of any "master list" that the calls are generated from.

When I spoke with the supervisor they came on the line with an aggressive "Hello" and would not answer any of my questions, only asking me if I would like to be put on to the Do Not Call list (I thought I've already requested this). They would not provide me with their name either.
Received the call at 1:19pm.

CALL 1-800-684-2064 to complain. These are not nice people! Received a call from 1-802-681-4148, won a vacation press 9. Because they are calling a number that is associated with a Lifecall for a frail and elderly parent I generally do hit whatever number and ask to be removed with the explanation that it IS a medical line. Got ANTHONY, asked to please remove the number as it was on a Life call system for medical emergencies. Mr Anthony responded "good, now I will call 4 times a day", at which point I lost it. He then called me retarded, as well as other names while I was asking for a supervisor. I heard what sounded like a transfer click, then I started randomly getting voice mailboxes. He tied up the line for 20 minutes as I could not hang up. Whatever he had done had kept the line busy for 20 minutes. I tried call 1-800-684-2064 which is their actual office and spoke to customer service. Lets hope the gentleman there does not think it is a joke to tie up a Life Call number.

Oh, and by the way, Bell won't let you block this number. Now THAT'S annoying.

I just got a call from the Vermont telemarketer/maybe telescammer. The company is Level 3 Communications in Bennington Vermont. If you live in Canada, go to Bell.ca and choose to chat with a live person for assistance (they ask for your name and phone number, but they don't need it for this purpose). Ask why they don't have any information on-line for consumers to register their telephone numbers in the Canadian Do Not Call Registry. Bell Canada has been chosen (by the CRTC in December 2007) as the provider of this service. But Bell is, perhaps, too busy trying to make money from providing services to the telemarketers in order for them to comply with the legislation when it comes into force later in 2008. Once again, Bell has forgotten where its bread is buttered: with the consumer. They deserve an earful. Please consider giving it to them.

I have been getting a ton of random calls from the states. So today I picked up the phone and answered it. The recording said I won a trip to the caribbean press 9 so I did. (I didn't know about the jail thing but, my number doesn't allow Long distance so if they tried it they would get no where.) Anyways, some guy came on the phone and said "how are you today?" I said fine, then he said that is good to hear, I see you have been chosen to win a trip to florida, and I said I don't want you to ever phone my number again, that is when I got the big hang up. I don't know anyone in the states and I am in Edmonton.

FOR A BOAT CRUISE...She asked me to pay with a credit card the amount of money ($350) I told the person "Francesca" to "give me $700. and I will send you on a cruise"...as a JOKE...She HUNG-UP. HOW STUPID can some people be with such a LOW IQ.(THIS SITE)...GREAT IDEA TO CORNER THESE IDIOTS!!

People! Once and for all, DO NOT GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO OR MONEY OF ANY KIND TO PEOPLE WHO WOULD SELL YOU A VACATION... OR ANYTHING!!! Most of the time it is not legit, and you will have lost your money to a bunch of fraudsters.

With all of the legitimate websites out there offering vacations at cut rates, why would you settle for the destination of THEIR CHOICE, anyway??!!

If you want a vacation, go to the honest, advertised, established sites and watch the sales. It will be a better deal, and you will help to stem the flow of harrassment calls, making your home more restful, too!

It's up to us all to stop this. Pass it on.

Said I won trip to the Caribbean. Tried getting through. Failed.

I got a call from them this morning, Jan. 16/08. I get a lot of this annoying calls that i've won something. I have a voice recorder and record these unwanted calls. What i do is ask for the person's name, what company they work for and how they got my phone number? They usually tell me that somebody signed me up for whatever they are selling. Then I tell them that it is illegal for someone to sign you up without your permission and that they are a party to this criminal act and that i will contact the police concerning this call. Then they hang up immediately. It really gets the caller upset and I get a good laugh out of it. Use your imagination when you get these annoying calls. The thing is to get them to give you incriminating evidence. I didn't have a chance to do it with these people because I was on the computer talking with my girlfriend. The thing is have fun with these people. Enjoy. P.S. tell them that the call is being taped.

I put the call on speakerphone, and dialed 9 as requested.
Then I listened as jockey after jockey answered, waited and hung up, to be replaced by the next.
Return the favour, and waste some of their time.

Computer generated female voice saying I won a free trip to the Carribean. To claim my prize, press 9. It's the second time it happened. First I press the option to remove from their list. Now, I just press OFF on my phone. Next time, won't answer. It's definatly a scam.

they called me again today on my cell number.....this is the 3rd time, so i hung up and an hour later called them back. Funny; the number is not in service ..... NEVER give credit info over the phone!! even your own bank wouldn't ask for that. Be SMART people!

Answered... Told me I won a trip...I knew when I first heard the voice... and repeatedly ask to press 9 ... Wich I didn't do.
Ctually there's no way to stop that except the blocking feature from the phone company. They can originate from wherever they want.

I pressed 9 to speak to an operator and tell them to take me off the list, that I emphatically do not do business with telemarketers and that I am on every possible do not call list and opt-out list. I was passed to a supervisor who tried to tell me that I should've pressed 1 and that I was paying for the call.

They phoned my work number and never said a word!!! The call display showed their number 802-681-4148 from Vermont. What a bunch of losers!!!!

Just received call at home in Saint-Hubert, Quebec...girlfriend works from home and did not answer. Did *69 and found out call originated from 802-681-4148...The message was " you have just won an "All inclusive Carabean Cruise"...etc...Thank you for you postings people...Watch out and stay vigilant, if you don't recognize the Number that is calling you then don't ANSWER....

Same thing happened to me today (Dec 10) in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. According to previous posts (Montreal, Tremblay), It seems they're trying harder in Quebec today!

Call was on my answering machine. All I heard was female voice saying \"press 9\". I read somewhere that the \"press 9\" scam is where they can gain access to your phone line to make long distance calls that will show up on your bill. One other time they called and my granddaughter answered. They went into some spiel about winning a prize and asked her to press 9. She was excited and giggling, but fortunately I was in the background yelling \"hang up\", and she did. These peeps are scum.

Came across this website and I see alot of concern with this number. With all the risk now adays, I never answer any calls that I don't recognize....

These people have been calling on and off for a few months to say that I've won a Caribbean cruise. If you "press 9 to talk to a live agent", you get routed to a Florida call center where they put on the high-pressure sales tactics. No matter how many times you ask to be taken out of their database, they will always call you back after a short time.

They appear to be the same company that calls from (727)831-2410 (which is also based in Florida).

I got a call earlier from this company and asked to be put on "do not call" lis & promptly got hung-up on. WRONG person to do this to! I found the phone service provider( Lucre, Inc.4011 Plainfield Ave. N.E.Grand Rapids, MI 49525)and complained. No more calls for a few weeks. I also reported them to fedral & state "do not call" lists, and filed a complaint with the MI state troopers fraud unit. THE MORE WE CAN HARRASS THESE GOOFS THE BETTER!!!

Told me this household won a free trip to Florida & press 9 to talk to a rep. Hungup. Opened the speakerphone & the call was still live & I heard a different voice say something about pressing 8 to be added to the do not call list.

Some recording starting with some dept store names. Hung up on them.

The recording was so scratchy, I didn't understand anything except 'press 9', which I didn't do.

I didn't hang up, either. It seems I kept them on the line (and not calling other people) for about 40 minutes until I had to use the phone and I finally hung up.

CID showed “Name Unknown” which is what the caller put in, not what my phone shows for a truly unknown caller.

Long Distance call from Vermont to northern Canada. I didn't answer.

Same thing as for 'BBB' Called saying stuff about increasing my limit and lowering interest rates on my credit card. Said they were from 'card services' but did not specify brand or bank name.
I pressed 9 to find out more info (knew it was a fraud from the start) but was put on hold and eventually disconected.
Pressed *69 and got the number. Tried to call it back and got the message that the 'number was not in service'.

Automated message on my answering machine (called 2 times in a week) saying your credit is ok (did not identify who they were) and to talk to them press 9 for a limit increase.

They called telling me that my credit card history or limit is ok...and I should talk to their rep or some crap and to press 9. Now, I know that by pressing 9 that those could be jail bangers trying to making LD calls on my line...
