Also, as a side note, most people working there are just teenagers working a minimum wage job. They're usually trying their best because it affects their pay. And if they don't get enough surveys every hour then they may get sent home. If you get that one person that's actually rude, then you're just unlucky.

Most people posting here sound very ignorant of the situation. Just answer the phone and tell them to put you on their Do Not Call list. It's that simple.
And try to be nice. The job can get pretty miserable, and the people that call you are usually very polite.
If someone hangs up on you then it's probably because they got scared for some reason (couldn't pronounce your name, computer froze, and such), or maybe it was just a mistake. I was usually in a hurry because I wanted to get the amount of surveys done that was expected of me and sometimes I'd hang up right when the person answered, because they took longer than usual to answer and I figured no one was there. I'd usually wait 3 or more seconds.
Also, we're not supposed to leave messages. It just wastes time and is completely useless considering you can't actually call back.
But yeah, I hated that job. The people I called were always so stupid and rude, while I was far too kind for my own good. I seriously think that most people in the U.S. are just plain immature and act like 12 year olds. You all need to grow up a little. You CAN act like an adult when in a situation you don't exactly favor. Being nice and polite only makes it easier for everyone.

Absolutely no one should get any solicitized phone calls after 9 pm. And God help the person who wakes my mother up while she is asleep...! I promise you, I WILL find you.

Also, if you say you are on the DO NOT CALL list, it may only be for Telemarketers and not DATA COLLECTION RESEARCH. If these people do call you, you can tell them you would like to be put on the DO NOT CALL LIST for DATA RESEARCH. Okay?...

I cannot stress enough as TOM said earlier, that we are not telemarketers. WE DO NOT SELL ANYTHING!!! We are simply trying to help businesses out by doing these surveys because they want to know how good of a job they are doing. Most of you who don't understand that, need to be schooled. It does not matter if your on the do not call list! Surveys, charities, and political, and people not selling you anything can call all they want get your facts straight or shut up!

When you get dead air is when the auto dialer is connecting to you and if you wait for a response someone will answer its not some conspiracy to find out when your home, its computer lag! If you don't know what your talking about you should not talk! The more times you open your mouth the more opportunities you have of putting your foot in it!

Western Wats is the largest survey company in the united states and all the surveys are confidential to both parties! Big companies, political groups and market research firms hire them to get important public views! Most of the employees are college students trying to make ends meet so if you care at all about other peoples lives and not just your own you will take the time to answer the 5-15 min. survey and help them and their family make a living,

As to the "Unavailable" on the caller ID instead of "Survey" the people at the phones aren't actually "dialing" It's an automated Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) connection through a company such as Quest. Since they're only outbound numbers, you can't typically call the number back, and they can change. So there's not really reason for a caller ID.

And "Tom" is right. After every call, the dialer gets to "disposition" the call, determining whether or not you'll be called. Hanging up will get you called again for sure. So will saying that the person isn't home. I used to do this and When I got yelled at I made SURE that the person was called back again. The best thing you can do is to say "put me on your do not call list". Then they have to. Simple as that.

And be nice. These people actually do this for a JOB. It's not the best job in the world dealing with snotty people that don't have 5 measly minutes for a survey cause they're too busy watching paint dry, and making the STUPIDEST excuses in the WORLD. OMG my curtains are on fire! *hangs up* yeeeah. right. Just be nice, and you'll be much better off.

Being on the do not call list will do you no good. Since these are "surveys" and not "solicitations" they are technically exempt from the do not call laws. The best thing you can do is answer and tell the person to put them on the company's internal do not call list. If they call again, ask to speak with a manager. The way the phone dialers work is they dial the number and (computer automated) and when you pick up (or your answering machine) it'll connect the line to an available employee. They are supposed to answer the call as if they've heard you answer by saying hello, so that's why they're sounding confused talking into your answering machine. Also, I believe most companies are allowed to call you until 10:00pm.

Also, not all of these will be political surveys. Many of the telephone calls are paid for by companies like jiffy lube that would like follow up calls to be made.

If you don't want to be called, just answer the phone and say please put me on your do not call list. If that doesn't work, call the company.

I hope that helps to clear up the mystery of who is cluttering up your phone's caller log. Yes it is very annoying that they block their outgoing caller-ID, but that's not the fault of the poor young people working as phonejockeys. Don't take your frustration out on the people who call, because they're already frustrated themselves. If they had any career prospects right now, then they wouldn't be slaving away on the phones for a pittance over minimum-wage. Most are students who couldn't give a darn about what survey they are carrying out, and this type of work makes them develop a pretty thick skin, pretty quickly. They develop what I call "personality callouses" so any foul language you might hurl at them just washes right off (and your rant will likely be recorded anyway, so don't be a jerk!)

On a sidenote to Western Wats: why don't you change your outgoing caller-ID to say "survey" instead of "unavailable"? If I see "unavailable" on an unknown incoming call, there's just Zero Chance that I'm going to pick up. But if I see "survey" then I get the option to decide whether I'm not too busy to answer a few questions. I'm betting that you only get a few "hits" per 1,000 placed calls. If your caller-ID said "survey" then I'd bet that you'll double or triple your number of "hits".

Btw, the reason they call regardless of whether you're on a "Do Not Call List" is because that list is for solicitors. Western Watts never sells, or attempts to sell anything. Therefore Western Watts is not bound to that list. Yeah, there's probably another list out there specifically for Western Watts... Want to know a secret, when we mark you down after you declining to take the survey, we disposition it as "Soft Refusal" Unless you get upset then we disposition it as "Hard Refusal." Or you could try to avoid the call by saying that that person is not available, but then your number gets thrown back into the random list of numbers to be surveyed. The easiest thing to do is to ask to be removed from the calling list and they'll disposition it accordingly so you're never contacted again. I actually quit a while back. Yay

Have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (bbb.org) go in and file a complaint. From what I saw, they have a SATISFACTORY record with the Bureau. From what I have heard from them and from the messages on this board, we all know that NOT to be the case. File a report with the BBB and let them know that Western Wats needs to stop calling us at all hours of the day and night.

I am so annoyed by this phone number. They call nearly every single day! I am afraid to amil them in fear that it will confirm that I am a live person and they will continue to call. GRRR!!

I have recently had my identity stolen and shortly after a fraudulent draft was written on my bank account, I got this call saying they were from Bank One. My checks still had a Bank One name on them so I assumed it was the person who had written the fraudulent draft.

Thanks to all of you who've posted on this problem. I can tell you that I'm a frequent Jiffy Lube customer(3vehicles every 90 days)and this is something relatively new. They are seriously trying to improve thier customer service experience and create a universal customer franchise brand(they're spending millions to evaluate every single franchise store nationwide). I just wish they'd ask permission from the customers to participate in this additional annoyance.

Same as many. A company calling to do a survey for Jiffy Lube. However, I was the one that took the car in. It is under my husbands name so that is the name I gave when I took the car in. They called and asked for my husband and I told them I took the car in not him. They said that didn't matter. Weird, something is not right.

This # calls at least 3x/day (up to 10 pm) for the last week or so. I'm also on the Do Not Call list and haven't answered. It's VERY irritating!

I went to Jiffy Lube in Florida two days ago. I got the call tonight. Very strange. If it's connected to Jiffy Lube I am very pissed off. it was 11pm local time when the call came to my cell phone (which is a 310 number because I moved from California.)

We are paid by companies to do surveys for their VERY OWN COMPANY.
Nobody sells numbers, we work on behalf of them.
ALL survey results are kept completely confidential and are sent directly back to the company that the survey is about.
When you get weird messages or when we repeatedly call you back, it's because we don't dial any numbers, the computer network that we're on dials them all and makes a beep noise when someone says "Hello?," Then on our screen the survey pops up and we are only provided with your first and last name.
Sometimes we only ask for the respondent's first name because we can't pronounce the last name (wouldn't it sound rude if we got it wrong?) and we're only given time to read the intro and figure out how to say your name in that intro time.
And whenever you get inproper calls that seem rude, it's because mostly teens 16+ work there and sometimes our computer system screws us up or beeps while your answering machine beeps. I remember my first call, I was stuttering and my computer froze up and I coulden't read off anyhing. I freaked out and hung up (sorry!) So next time you recieve a call and it seems ridiculous, or maybe it sounds like a scam, then just respectfully decline. We DO NOT EVER SELL ANYTHING! EVER!! Can't stress that enough, lol.
By the way, Edward Jones Customers, nothing in the survey asks you anything about your account, except wether you ARE the account holder (Primary or Joint). The rest is on 1-10 scales of your satisfaction of your Investment Rep.

I went to Jiffy Lube in Las Vegas on 2-9-07 and today I got called by (801)623-4629. Now I have more reason to be pissed at them in addition to the horrible service I received.

FYI I contacted Jiffy Lube's legal department in Houston to look into this. (I'm an attorney.) They claim to have no knowledge of this problem at the HQ level. However, they asked me for the franchise number. I directed them to this website so that they could see how many people who went to various Jiffy Lubes across the US were getting these phone calls. Hopefully they will get to the bottom of this!

Ah hah! Jiffy Lube must be the thing; we just went there a couple days ago. However, this Western Wats outfit will do surveys for anyone that pays them, so if you haven't been to Jiffy Lube it could be just about anything else. Just had both my cars serviced 7 days ago at Jiffy Lube in Maryland, and about ten minutes ago I got a call on my home phone from this number. I answered and said hello twice with no response so I just hung up. There was no response. I noticed the comments posted here about Jiffy Lube. We had service there just a few days ago. We were asked by them at that time what our phone # was. I can't say for sure if there is a correlation, but it is certainly an interesting coindcidence.

Any call from this phone number should definitely just be ignored and NOT answered.

I just had an oil change done by Jiffy Lube on 1/08/07. They are the ONLY ones who have my cell # besides my sons. The telephone company supplying this number is out of Provo, Utah, and is called LEAP WIRELESS INTL, INC. DBA CRICKET COMM, INC. Phone them and complain, and phone the Federal Communications Commission and file a harassment comp,aint against the caller and the phone company. And I am sure Jiffy Lube has something to do with this, so call the Better Business Bureau in your state and also file a complaint with the State Attorney's Office against all these people. Print out all these pages if necessary. This can be a felony offense if handled correctly with jail time and major fines for all the offenders. Good luck.

Got a call from this number and when I answered there was just the sound of a button being pushed

I've received 4 calls fom 802-623-4629 in the past 2 days. For the record, I haven't had my oil changed at Jiffy Lube, so I think that's just a coincidence. I haven't answered because of the "Answer Unavailable" read out on my Caller I.D.

I got my oil changed at Jiffy Lube (Chicago, North Ave. location) last week. Calls began this Monday, caller ID said "Wireless Caller" so I have not picked up.

I have received about 8 calls from this number since last friday. I noticed somebody's comment about Jiffy Lube and I actuallly got my car serviced on Friday there. I have not picked up the call becuase ihavent been home when they call but i have caller id on my phone.

They called asking for my girlfriend by first name only, and they'd hung up by the time I handed her the phone. It sounded like a 11-year-old girl on the phone.

At 7:42PM (same day), A woman's voice on my machine said "Hello?" and hung up. I'm guessing this is some kind of political survey. I'm on the do not call list, and politicos are somehow allowed to harrass us anyway.
