In addition to my other post I have a question. Why do people leave their email addresses in these posts, so that anyone can see it??

I received this call last night and did a search. Western Wats is just a survey company. They are not a bunch of weirdos or anything. I participate in surveys online, so this might be where they got my info. The call was not bothersome. If I was home I would have taken the survey and asked that they remove my name from their list. Everyone is so hostile before finding out who callers are. Also, why do people leave post to Western Wats on this forum? It's not like Western Wats is going to read or receive your message here!!

LED read out shows Western Watts. Nothing on other end of line when you pick up. 2x today (10/1/08).

It does not matter if your on the do not call list! Surveys, charities, and political, and people not selling you anything can call all they want get your facts straight or shut up!

When you get dead air is when the auto dialer is connecting to you and if you wait for a response someone will answer its not some conspiracy to find out when your home, its computer lag! If you don't know what your talking about you should not talk! The more times you open your mouth the more opportunities you have of putting your foot in it!

Western Wats is the largest survey company in the united states and all the surveys are confidential to both parties! Big companies, political groups and market research firms hire them to get important public views! Most of the employees are college students trying to make ends meet so if you care at all about other peoples lives and not just your own you will take the time to answer the 5-15 min. survey and help them and their family make a living,

I have been getting calls from unknown and Western Wats around 5:00 pm and 5:45 pm., when ever we answer they hang up. Who are these calls from and why are they harrassing me?

Bothers me they knew my full name. Totally bogus. I think she said she was calling on behalf of my cell phone company.

Receiving 4 calls per day, 3 days in a row so far. The last call was at 9pm tonight. I said hello 3 times loudly..they hung up. Call came up "cellular call" 1-801-623-4623 on the caller ID.

Yes, got a call also from this number. Did not answer it nor did they leave a msg. On the Do Not Call List... It has gotten to the point that unless I know the caller id, I don't bother answering the phone. Also, receive fax tones daily - no fax. Having a phone sucks now....

Called today at 7:27 pm, I answered and after 10-15 seconds they asked for someone who doesn't live here. Right last name, but that's it. Very apologetic when I told her it was a wrong number, hopefully they won't keep calling.

My daughter just got a cell phone thru t-mobile and immediately received a call from a creep at western watts - called t-mobile and they said to call the police which we are doing.

Called me on 3/10/08 at 8:50 p.m. even though my number is on the DNC list.

First call was no response when cell was answered with our business greeting. Second call a minute later was responded to with "hello". Caller wanted to talk to someone who handles phone service for our organization. Told them this was the third time someone had called asking this (didn't note the phone number on previous occasions) and that we had said each time that we don't discuss internal operations with complete strangers and to stop calling us.

I AM ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST. HOWEVER, THEY STILL CALLED. SEVERAL TIMES IN FEBRUARY 2008.

4 calls and no messages - I'm guessing it's related to T-mobile phone and service I just bought since that's the number they called me on.

I'm on the national do not call list, but have been receiving a lot of calls from this number. Often they leave a message on the machine with a confused-sounding human voice saying some variation of "may I speak to the male head of household."

i received this call 3 times last evening, january 16th , but no one was on the line.

12/18/07 8:54 p.m. Caller asked my 13 year old asked to speak with a person 18 years or older who resided here. When I answered they asked if I was a registered voter and what my views were...WHAT THE...I told them that I'am on the DNC list and I was told that we are non profit and we can call who we want when we want!...Funny thing...I have a 9 year old deaf daughter and we have a TDY device that typed everything so I will be turning this over to the FCC!!! Fricken Losers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got this cell phone activated 3 days ago and this # has called 4 times! I don't want to run up my cell minutes but I was unsure if it was family from out of state and when I pick up, there is silence. I just ignore it now. I'm on the dnc list. I wish solicitors would respect that.

Never answered cell phone because I didn't know who it was. I researched the number and found it to be a telemarketing company/research company. I am on the Do Not Call List for telemarketers on my home and cell phones, so they should not even be calling me.

Said they were conducting a survey on my recent hospital experience, named the hospital I had been at. Said the survey would take about 10 minutes, and then asked if visit to the hospital was heart related. I replied no, and the guy said thanks and hung up. Seems odd, so went looking around and found this. Also on DNC list. Thought this was legit cuz I thought medical records were supposed to be private per HIPAA?!? Obviously not.

I think they have this entire thing SDRAWKCAB (BACKWARDS)! There should be an "OTC" list(Okay-To-Call), instead of the current DNC list! List tracking would be much easier, too!

It's a HASSLE for everyone TO HAVE TO go through all of these sign-up lists "not to be bothered." And, maybe, if the telemarketers had just their two numbers they're allowed to call, the receivers would finally get sick of it, JOIN US, and this mess would be HISTORY!!

I don't understand--never will--anyone "wanting" telemarketer calls, of any kind, in their home/business/personal lives. When I'm at home, I don't want to take a survey about someone else's business; when I'm at work, that's what I want to do, not take a call about car glass replacement, etc. And, when I get these calls on my cell phone ~ well, we won't go there...but again, it's "ME" that HAS TO DO SOMETHING to resolve it ~ WASTE OF TIME, because it will just be a different number next time!

This is past "getting old." In my opinion, this should've been changed yesterday! (Which, BTW, would work well in our home!)

It is a survey/data collection company. westernwats.com. I received the call @7pm, then filed a complaint with the Do Not Call registry. If we all file a complaint, it may help stop the harassment from the unwanted calls.

Said out of area, let it go to answering machine but no message. They have called in the past and asked for the head-of-house. We are on the no call list, but they ignore it.

I am on the Do Not Call list, and it is 8:00 p.m. which isn't really late, but late enough to be bothered!

We are a very busy office and don't appreciate these kinds of calls. I emailed them to remove our numbers from their list so we'll just see what happens.

They asked for my husband by first name. They were doing a survey on voting on State Senators and Assemblymen in the State of New Jersey. The caller spoke broken English and insisted she was in Nevada when my husband asked why someone from Utah was calling about New Jersey voting/elections. We are also on the DNC list.

Two calls on the same day - dead air both times. We've been on DNC list for years. I called the number and got a voice recording about Western Wats and participating in surveys. These people are as dumb as old hippy Democrats. It is like trying to deal with the Reverend Jim Ignatowski from that old show, "Taxi."

It is a political survey. I quit after 20 minutes of questions about candidates, issues, etc. The guy said we were half done, and I said I didn't wish to continue, they wanted to call back and I said NO.

To all you out there that have worked for these companies that want information, as in politics, it makes NO difference now does it? And don't get so pissy when you played a BIG part of this kind of intrusion in our lives. Survey's what are they good for? ABSOLUTLY NOTHING! They are just yet another tax write off, they serve no true purpose. If you want to defend something, get a bit more serious and actually make a difference, but do NOT think you have the right to call me when your damn good and ready. I control my life, not allowing nimrods such as yourself to call my home when you damn well feel like it. You do NOT have that right rather being paid for this kind of mind numbing, contributing to society kind of work! WOW, money for nothing. Except for the fact that people like myself would like to wrap something called integrity, around your sponge bob head. Like I said, what's YOUR home phone number, I have a few questions?

I hope that helps to clear up the mystery of who is cluttering up your phone's caller log. Yes it is very annoying that they block their outgoing caller-ID, but that's not the fault of the poor young people working as phonejockeys. Don't take your frustration out on the people who call, because they're already frustrated themselves. If they had any career prospects right now, then they wouldn't be slaving away on the phones for a pittance over minimum-wage. Most are students who couldn't give a darn about what survey they are carrying out, and this type of work makes them develop a pretty thick skin, pretty quickly. They develop what I call "personality callouses" so any foul language you might hurl at them just washes right off (and your rant will likely be recorded anyway, so don't be a jerk!)

On a sidenote to Western Wats: why don't you change your outgoing caller-ID to say "survey" instead of "unavailable"? If I see "unavailable" on an unknown incoming call, there's just Zero Chance that I'm going to pick up. But if I see "survey" then I get the option to decide whether I'm not too busy to answer a few questions. I'm betting that you only get a few "hits" per 1,000 placed calls. If your caller-ID said "survey" then I'd bet that you'll double or triple your number of "hits".

And they not only have the right to call you, but are fullfilling a legal agreement with the company that hired them to call you and ask for your feedback on whatever topic they have been hired to cover. It's just a phonecall. Answer it once and just say, "no thanks, please take me off the survey list." The phone calls stop and you're done with it. And no, I don't work for the company. Before yesterday, I had never heard of them. I looked them up, followed the instructions on the web site when they called the second time (first time, I didn't answer either) and that's that. No big deal.

If you haven't already read this in other posts, the company is a legitimate survey company (no selling, no scams). What they are doing is perfectly legal, is not in violation of the NDNC laws, and frankly is not a hassle if you handle it like a reasonable adult and don't go throwing childish temper tantrums (which get you nowhere with anyone anyway). The person calling you works for Western Wats (one t in Wats) which has been hired by a firm with whom you do some sort of business. WW is under contract to survey peformance of service companies (for instance, Time Warner Cable hires them to call their customers), conducts public opinion/perception polls, and is generaly getting the pulse of what people want/think. If you don't wish to participate in the survey, answer the phone and politely say no thanks, and ask to be removed from the calling list. They will do that (worked for me just fine).

I found out it was the company Western Wats when they left part of a message thinking they were actually talking to someone. I googled "Western Wats" and found out it was a survey research company. It said because their company is not a telemarketing company, even if you are on the DO NOT CALL LIST they can still call you. It also said if you contact them they can put you on thier own DO NOT CALL LIST.

I got called twice, asked for phone system and then hangup. I think the maketing compnay try to collect the phone number if it's active or not, then they will sell the number to ads company.

Received this call on 9/17/07 on both my phone lines, on one didn't leave a message, on the ohter I heard a phone hang up on my voicemail. I was on the line on an important call and fortunately didn't answer the call wait. I am on DNC list, thanks to this website will report it to them.

Call came in as Out of Area with the number t around 8PM. Since I have caller ID, I didn't pick up. My answering machine came on and then some foreign sounding guy, said he was calling from some research company...couldn't understand the name of the company. He started speaking, asking for me by name, but pronounced wrong and then said "any body on the line, hello" and finally hung up. I am on the DNC list and am reporting it to DoNotcall.gov which I am doing now for every one of these kind of calls.

Call came in as Out of Area and then the phone number at 8:30 PM Since I have caller ID, I didn't answer, but NO message was left on my machine. I am on the DNC list and am getting really tired of these nusance calls. As long as I have caller ID, I refuse to answer any of these annoying calls.

This number is master number for a survey/telemarketer center. There is a loophole in the do not call law. Any charities, surveys or businesses you worked with in the past are not bound by the do not call policy. Telemarketers have pick up on this and now if they ask just one opinion question (no mater) how simple, they can circumvent the law and then go in to a sales pitch. Many are so slick at this practice, you may never know you have been pitched.

They are a market research company and are implicitly exempt from the National Do Not Call List laws. They're not trying to sell you anything, just gather opinions.

This number calls many times a day and night. They purport to be making "analysis". Anyone is an idiot if they give information over the phone to someone who calls them. Where is DONOTCALL - why don't they do the job they are supposed to be doing and get rid of all these pests. I am tired of having my phone and answer machine tied up with crap.

Company called me claiming to be a survey service for T-mobile... very rude interrogative and was un knowledgeable about T-mobile service. Called T-mobile and they confirmed this is not the company they use for survey.

these companies can call for 1 or 2 reasons.
1. They are not selling anything, nor advertising, therefore DNC lists dont apply. Why would politicions pass a bill that doesnt allow them to call people?
and 2
if they are using non-paid volenteers they dont represent a company and are able to call whomever they want.

Caller identified herself as calling from Western Watts and asked for the head of the household. I said that we were not interested in surveys, and to remove our number from their calling list. Then I hung up immediately.

This call seemed much like a call previously received two days ago from CCI COMM, 801-437-3150.

Called repetitively and didn't seem to understand what an answering machine was. Then one time I answered it, and said I wasn't interested in their survey, they asked if anyone in the background was interested. Not only are they annoying, but stupid. I too am on the DNC list. It's obvious that was and continues to be a joke if not a means by which companies get my number to call. I'm just glad my fax machine wasn't on. it might have sent an unwanted fax. Paper and ink are expensive.

I use Iobi from Verizon to block all calls to my home except numbers I allow to call me.
This number has started appearing in the caller id log in the last month now.

Called me but said nothing

They called and hung up on me at 8:26 PM. I'm on the Federal and state (CO) no call lists. They are now blocked by my VOIP (SunRocket).

Was out of the house and came home to find this number and "unknown name" on my caller ID. Today is a holiday and assholes like this have to call and bother people ???? They can take their survey or whatever and shove it up their asses. F them.......

I received three missed calls from them in one day, but no message was left.

A few notes to those on DNC lists - I used to work for a survey company. I don't think (but am not sure) that the DNC list applies to a company who is only doing a survey. If you are not selling a product - I don't think the same restrictions apply. As for the frequency of calls - while this is annoying it is just a machine jumbling your number over and over again. When you don't answer it just throws it back to be dialed again. Once the machine starts to run out of numbers (say 1000 #s and they've already called 950 of them and confirmed them to be not interested or not a real phone number) it will start calling the last 50 more and more. It won't be until an company administrator realizes that these numbers are pulling few/no results that they dump the phone numbers loaded into the machine to load new ones. These surveys all need specific data sets (X people from a certain age range, X people that make a certain salary a year). Regarding the time they are calling - it is probably just a glitch. These people are sitting in a cubicle somewhere and have no idea who/where they are calling. There was a glitch in our phone system that was notorious for calling Hawaii at 4AM. No one was happy and it didn't help our company at all cause no one would talk to us. BOTTOM LINE: Say you're not interested and the person calling will simply click a button to say that you're not interested and the machine will junk your number and call someone else. Hope this helps someone out there. There is a big difference between most sales calls and a legit research.

This phone number conducted a survey with me. They did not sell anything nor did they try to affect any purchasing decisions. Professional and polite. Again - they at no point tried to sell me anything.

6 calls tonight between 7:30PM and 9:10 PM. Even a survey company breaks the law when they call after 9 PM. There is also no name on the caller ID (just dashes) - isn't that illegal too? The frequency of calls and hanging up must constitute harassment at some point as well. So what if they're a survey company - file online complaints at donotcall.gov (put your comments in the company name bar), and also online at your State Attorney General's office. Their business practices cross the line.

A few of the comments posted are from none other than Western Watts. While it is true they do not have to abide by the do not call list, beause they are not trying to sell something, they do have to abide by the telemarketing times for each state. I suggest anyone getting a call from these a@@ho*&@ after 9 PM notify the AG office within your state and file a complaint of harrassment.

Did someone move a rock or something? Why am I getting calls from pretty much every telemarketer, researcher, and idiot out there? I keep getting calls from this number and I don't have voicemail, so they call and get no one. I just got this phone last week!? How did anybody get this number already?

These people call our number every single day, several times a day, and we really want them to stop. Their web site lists an email address you can write to to request to be taken off their call list, but I am wary of that. Has anyone used that email address to request being taken off their call list and, if so, did you have any success?

Received a call from this number - 1-801-623-4623 the first time today...heard some noise on the backgroung but couldn't tell if someone was talking. Then it was hung up. Call time was 7:29pm Pacific Time.

I just switched to T-Mobile and have received two calls from them so far (I have been with T-Mobile for about 5 days). I would say there is a connection based on what I have read here. Go to their website and opt out. I did and I will post if that works. They call late at night and during inconvenient times. Seems awfully unprofessional for T-Mobile to give your cell phone number to this company so they can call you and eat up your anytime minutes. These firms don't care about inconveniencing you. I specifically indicated in my email for them to NOT call me anymore. If they continue regardless I will let them deal with litigation for continually harassing me. 'Nuff said.

First call, around 7:45 pm, was silence on pickup. Second call, about 10 minutes later, a woman asked me to answer survey. She was reasonably polite, said that the DNC registry doesn't apply to them, but said she'd put me on their internal DNC list.

Received a call from them on Sunday night...surprising they're even at work considering they work in Provo, Utah and almost nothing is open on Sundays. I am registered with the National and State DNC, but, political and marketing calls are exempt from that list, saying you are on it is futile, just pick it up, and clearly state that you are not interested, and to put you on their internal do not call list, and this will stop the calls from these companies permanently.

Just got back from vacation. They called over 28 times, including 3 yesterday and twice today. We are on DNC list. Never leaft a message.

They have called each night at dinner time for at least 4 days. Usually, they do not leave a message. Once a girl answered when I picked up and asked me if head of household could answer a survey. I asked how many questions, how long and she said she didn't know but would try to go through it quickly. I declined to begin under those conditions. She then requested any others in the household, leading me to believe they REALLY want and need respondents. I declined that one, too. Final call was this evening and I told them to not call any more.

OKAY, I went to Western Wats website and gained this information. I manage teleservices operations for non profit organizations. There are exemptions in the Do Not Call program which allows a company to contact you. These are regulated by both the national registry and individual state laws, which may vary.

I've been getting calls from this number every day for about 2 weeks. I have also received 2 calls on my cell phone. I didn't recognize the number and haven't answered.

Get a clue. Being on the do not call list doesn't cover surveys, only telemarketers. They also have a 3-6 second delay that hangs up if it detects a beep to weed out answering machines. I was a telemarketer once, and it sucked. I also have been getting these calls, so I don't answer. Problem solved.

It's extremely creepy. Please clean up your act. And Google that 801 number so you can see everyone's various complaints against your company.

i keep getting a call from that number and when i pick up noone is there

We didn't pick up. They didn't leave a message.

Another telemarketer that calls and doesn't leave a message....the caller i.d. says UNAVAILABLE. Well, Mr. UNAVAILABLE....you can talk to Mr. MACHINE as I won't even lift the reciever for any such calls. If I don't know who's calling I simply don't answer period.

Didn't answer when I said hello.

Comes up Cellular Call - happens once-twice a day. Very annoying!!!

What happened to the DNC list to stop this crap?

I just got a call from the number and they left no message. Any new information on this mystery number?

They are a Market Research Company-They are exempt from do not call registries because they are trying to SELL anything. You can call them at 1-801-373-7735, selection option 5 and tell Judy Williams the number you want removed from their internal list. Good Luck! I hope they stop calling!

I work for a branch of Western Wats...we're a legitimate research company. We do not have to abide by the "Do Not Call List" because we're not selling anything. It's quite humorous when I get people arguing with me about the "do not call list." Yeah I know we're kind of annoying...but know the laws before you start fighting with us on the phone. :) We have our own internal "do not call list" and will be happy to put you on that if you ask the caller. If you simply hang up on us, we'll probably call you back...it's just the way the computers work.-which would explain multiple calls to your phone. If one night a caller asks for the female registered voter and then another night asks for the male registered voter...it's because we've met our quota that night for females or males. (not individual quotas but the company's)

They keep calling, and don't say anything or if we don't pick up they don't leave a message. It is getting extrememly frustrating, because it happens between 8 and 12 times a day. I wish these people would start listening to us that are on the DNC list.

The caller identified himself as being with "TNS" Talyor Nelson Something or other - a Market Research Company - wanting my opinions on Telecom. Their computer system was screwed up as they thought they were calling a different company in a different state. I just hung up on them.

I told them I was on DNC list and they said they would keep calling if I did not complete their survey!?

Was asked to participate in a Market Research study. Told them I was not interested and that I was on the Do not call list... they hung up without one more word said.

Went to the Western Wats website. They are a research firm that conducts consumer opinion polls. They provide the following information to remove your phone number from their database:

got a call from 801-623-4623, they didnt leave a message. I am on the Do not call list as well. 4:48pmET on Tue 11/21.

801 623-4623 calls us every day at dinner time. We don't answer we don't know anyone in UT. We also are on the do not call list, for all the good that does. We never answer the unknown/unknown calls either

They called 3 times today I finally picked it up and they were calling on behalf of T-Mobile for a Survey. They did call my cell phone and I had just called T-Mobile support a few days ago.

Great idea! Think I'll start pressing buttons when any call that with holds the number or campaign calls in. I also tell them I'm on a metered line and pay for every call I make and recieve.
