I picked up and there was no answer. Tried calling them back and there was no pick up. They won't leace a message on the answering machine either. Wierd.

It does not matter if your on the do not call list! Surveys, charities, and political, and people not selling you anything can call all they want get your facts straight or shut up!

When you get dead air is when the auto dialer is connecting to you and if you wait for a response someone will answer its not some conspiracy to find out when your home, its computer lag! If you don't know what your talking about you should not talk! The more times you open your mouth the more opportunities you have of putting your foot in it!

Western Wats is the largest survey company in the united states and all the surveys are confidential to both parties! Big companies, political groups and market research firms hire them to get important public views! Most of the employees are college students trying to make ends meet so if you care at all about other peoples lives and not just your own you will take the time to answer the 5-15 min. survey and help them and their family make a living,

The gov,t will not do anything to stop these data collecting phone calls across the country because they are collecting the info. If the citizens do nothing don't complain, you get what you fight for. Privacy has been allowed to be taken away, and the people do nothing! If you don't like the phone calls get rid of your phone, If you don't like all your buying habits, your bill paying, your friends and even your DNA being filled and collected , very close to real time, for. every man, women and child in the country. I've gotten 4 calls from them today. One had an automobile "ding, ding, ding..." like a "fasten seatbelt" or "key in ignition" warning in the background.

I hope that helps to clear up the mystery of who is cluttering up your phone's caller log. Yes it is very annoying that they block their outgoing caller-ID, but that's not the fault of the poor young people working as phonejockeys. Don't take your frustration out on the people who call, because they're already frustrated themselves. If they had any career prospects right now, then they wouldn't be slaving away on the phones for a pittance over minimum-wage. Most are students who couldn't give a darn about what survey they are carrying out, and this type of work makes them develop a pretty thick skin, pretty quickly. They develop what I call "personality callouses" so any foul language you might hurl at them just washes right off (and your rant will likely be recorded anyway, so don't be a jerk!)

On a sidenote to Western Wats: why don't you change your outgoing caller-ID to say "survey" instead of "unavailable"? If I see "unavailable" on an unknown incoming call, there's just Zero Chance that I'm going to pick up. But if I see "survey" then I get the option to decide whether I'm not too busy to answer a few questions. I'm betting that you only get a few "hits" per 1,000 placed calls. If your caller-ID said "survey" then I'd bet that you'll double or triple your number of "hits".

Caller id said "CELLULAR CALL". They did not leave a message.

They've called a few times. I haven't answered. It's as simple as that. For all you folks saying, "I'm on the do not call list" you have to realize there are limitations to that list! Survey takers may still call! Tele-marketers cannot. BIG difference. We received two calls on 2/26, both from 801-623-4622. One at 4:43 pm
EST asking my husband to take a survey. He hung up. We got another call at 8:48 pm asking to speak to the head of the household. My husband hung up again. I then used my "call block" and blocked that number. So far no further calls! We also are on the Do not call list. Here is a number for cell phone Do Not Call List. It is 888-382-1222.

Called us at 9pm on 2/27/2007 and never said a word. Looks like this number has been calling all around the United States. Caller ID say Unavailable. Don't call back because you don't know who or what they want.

Same thing - this must be one of those that they try to get your signal and steal your wireless codes. Never stay on the line if they don't answer you in less than 10 seconds.

I have family in the 801 area code so I answered the call. Often I answer the call in a different language since my family is multi-lingual. Thinking it was them I answered in Spanish. A hispanic woman answered the phone asking if I was the Head of the household. I said yes with a spanish accent thinking... 'oh brother, a telemarketer.. I will have some fun!' She then asked if I wanted to participate in a political survey. I said yes. She then asked if I was of hispanic descent. I said no. She paused as if shocked. She then says 'which of these nationalities would you be considered closest to - White, African American... etc. I said White. There was a long pause and then she came back and said 'I am sorry sir we are having some technical issues - can I call you back later?' I said yes and she said thank you and ended the call. A week later and no callback.
So maybe they only take political survey calls if you are of hispanic descent... hmmmm.

This has come up on my caller ID 2 times. They are calling at 8:45 p.m. I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, and my numbers are all on the National Do Not Call List. Why are they calling and how do we make them stop?

Date: 01-29-07. Caller ID was unknown, phoned 2x on Saturday, each time hung up and no message. When the phone was answered on Monday a woman said she was from Western Research. Told her not to call again.

Like Jean, I just switched cellphone service from C to T, and I've been getting these calls.

A cellphone # from Provo, UTAH, who probably want to do a survey on us.

Possible SOLUTIONS i suggest:
1) Register @ donotcall.GOV
2) If they're calling you on your cell, add that number to your phonebook & set the ringtone for THAT number as "silent".
That way, u won't have to hear it ring if THEY call again, and u would still get rings from other callers.

Didn't recognize calling number so didn't answer. They didn't leave a message. I have Verizon's service that blocks restricted calls forcing callers to announce themselves and I'm on all DNC lists.

SuperPages reverse look-up shows this as a cell phone out of Provo, Utah.

Called back using *67 and message was "Western Wats" and mentioned survey company and more info at westernwats.com didn't bother going any farther.

Yesterday aT 4:37 pm received call. I picked up on 1st ring but other end immediately hung up upon hearing my 'Hello' -perhaps didn't want a woman. An hour later they called back and my husband answered their 30 minute survey on emergency care in hospitals. He says the only personal information he provided was his first name, zip code and the fact that he was retired. I hope that that is true. They can easily find and probably already had his last name and address. I don't what harm they can do with only that information but don't know if the survey was legit. I would not have answered it. Maybe they find men more forthcoming.

I received the phone call on 1-8-2007 at approximately 8:30p.m. I searched for the phone number location online and the phone number in google lead me to this specific page. I'm was debating on whether or not I should call back. I guess I'm going to play it safe and not call back. I don't feel like dealing with scams. The phone number on my caller ID appeared as: 801-623-4622. I have not idea who this is.They did not leave a message...

got a call at 3:30pm on saturday(today). there was no response till I said hello for almost 1 minute. some lady talked with me about t mobile, and she know my name! Then, my cell phone was powered off. when I turned it on and called back, It showed western wats and was hung up after that. I googled it, then come here.

Calls every evening. No caller ID so will NEVER answer!

These jerks called at 8:58pm on my home business line...no message left..caller ID said "unavailable".

This number (801.623.4622) has been calling very frequently but not leaving messages. Once they accidently left a short msg when they apparently neglected to hang up right away.
If any one figures out what they are doing, please post it and a number we can call to complain. I will also try to report them to the Do Not call people- if I can figure out how to!

We've received many calls at all times of the day, including weekends. It's always the same number [(801) 623-4622], and caller ID always reads 'unavailable'. They never leave a message. I'm getting the same thing as others. The first time this number called, I answered and said I was not interested in responding. Now I get a call each day, early evening, and when I answer, there is no one there!

They called me for the first time on 11-8-06, twice within two hours. I was at work so I didn't answer, but they didn't leave a message so I checked online to see about the number. I responded to a very lengthy political phone survey conducted by a "Western Research." At the end of the survey, they asked for my name -- which made me very suspicious and I did not respond (surveys are supposed to be anonymoous). Instead, I asked to speak to a supervisor, but no luck. I am concerned that this is some type of a fraudulent survey used to collect information on private citizens. Does Western Research even exist? (I can't find it on google). BEWARE!!!!
