As always, I ask if there is compensation for answering their survey. If there answer is no, or unsure, I ask to be removed from their calling list. Unless the compensation is direct cash or a gift card, I always decline.

There are too many market research companies willing to pay for my time. I am a member of several and enjoy Amazon.com gift cards or checks.

You are being asked to spend your time on the phone with them based only upon their say-so that they even HAVE a legitimate affiliation with the alleged client. Maybe these clients should be notifying the customers up front before they hire these people and unleash them on their customers? That is, we're Blah-Blah Company and Western Wats will be periodically contacting you on our behalf to inquire about your customer satisfaction?

I Googled Western WATS and they're a telecommunications company from UTAH specializing in data gathering (in other words: surveys).

It does not matter if your on the do not call list! Surveys, charities, and political, and people not selling you anything can call all they want get your facts straight or shut up!

Western Wats is the largest survey company in the united states and all the surveys are confidential to both parties! Big companies, political groups and market research firms hire them to get important public views! Most of the employees are college students trying to make ends meet so if you care at all about other peoples lives and not just your own you will take the time to answer the 5-15 min. survey and help them and their family make a living,

Started calling yesterday (11-15-07). Then 2 calls today. Caller ID shows Western Watts. Never leaves a message.

I was just called by that number. She asked me if I had recently made a transaction at a specific branch of Suntrust banks. I had, so I told her so. She asked me to answer some questions about my service; I politely told her no thank you.

A minute later I called Suntrust and told them what happened. I asked them to take me off their call list. The guy told me it was not Suntrust policy to call clients unless there is suspicious activity with their account, and suggested that the call may have been some kind of scam.

I don't know who this person is, but she somehow knew not only my name and phone number, but also that I had recently made a transaction at a specific bank.

I keep recieving calls from 0018016234626, when I answer the line goes dead.
I have rung this number back and a recorded voice tells me I am through to Western Watts, some sort of survey group.
I do not want to be harrassed by these people, I am a member of the TPS but assume this does not protect me from nuisance callers such as these.

He was surprise with these questions. Obviously he never heard someone ask these before. I explained my rationale. Since his company is being paid by a group to perform the research, and he is using my phone number (which I pay for), and MY time, I should be compensated, no different than if I went to a focus group performing market research.

When he told me there would be no payment I asked him two more questions.
Would you please place my number on your Do-Not-Call list?
Can you confirm now that my number is on this list?

He then responded, "I will see what I can do." I mentioned that was unacceptable and asked to speak to his supervisor.

A minute later, the supervisor who identified himself as Andrew Sullivan picked up the phone. When I told him I was trying to get my number removed from his Do-Not-Call list, and their representative could not confirm that, he hung up on me!

Do not take crap from these telemarketers. DO NOT give them any personal information. DO NOT identify yourself. Spend all the time asking them questions! Not only will they be wasting their money and time on non-effective calls, you will obtain some satisfaction knowing you are doing just that.

Received a call today from Western Wats at this number. The caller went into his spiel about how he is performing a survey and the answers to my questions are important.

The following is what I do when telemarketers call. It takes just a minute, and is actually more enjoyable then getting angry with these losers.

I immediately began to politely pepper him with questions:
What company is he calling from?
Where is his company located?
What is the contact number for this company?
What organization is he conducting research for?
Who is funding the research?
Are their political or non-profit groups involved, and if so, who are they?

He answered my questions as best he could, telling me that they were conducting research on behalf of "Mount West Research." I then asked him the most important question:
Is this a compensated survey? Am I to receive payment for my answers?

If you haven't already read this in other posts, the company is a legitimate survey company (no selling, no scams). What they are doing is perfectly legal, is not in violation of the NDNC laws, and frankly is not a hassle if you handle it like a reasonable adult and don't go throwing childish temper tantrums (which get you nowhere with anyone anyway). The person calling you works for Western Wats (one t in Wats) which has been hired by a firm with whom you do some sort of business. WW is under contract to survey peformance of service companies (for instance, Time Warner Cable hires them to call their customers), conducts public opinion/perception polls, and is generaly getting the pulse of what people want/think. If you don't wish to participate in the survey, answer the phone and politely say no thanks, and ask to be removed from the calling list. They will do that (worked for me just fine). (continued)

been getting a lot of calls with no voice, just silence. This is obviously one of those machines used by telemarketers/research firms that test for live responses and then have their people call back later. Annoying as hell.

If you call this number (801.373.7735) on their web site you can access an automated menu to have your number placed on their "do not call" list. Don't know if it works, but I gave it a try.

Two calls, last night and this morning. Did not answer last night as it was on a business line. Answered this morning and got a couple of line clicks and no voice response. I disconnected the call.

They said they were a market research company and were conducting a survey of Library Directors, asking their opinions on a new web-based information service, & that the survey took 2 minutes. We've had some legitimate surveys like this, so I my boss took the call. I asked her later, & she said it was a legitimate survey. That was yesterday. Today I have received two more calls from two different people with the same company. I told the first that she had already participated in the survey; I told the second the same, & to please remove her name from the call list. We'll see if it works.

Rec'd call when not home, 12-5-06, 8:46 pm EST. Called again 12-6, 8:45 pm. Caller ID=Western Watts, 801-494-1992. When I answered, woman said she was calling to verify purchase made on VISA card. Knowing about calls that solicit personal info to use, I told her I thought this was a bogus call and hung up. I then called my VISA company to verify, and no purchase had been posted. I've heard about scams where a purchase was posted after giving out info on one of these calls. So far, haven't heard from Western Watts again. 801 is not a toll free number, so returning their call will cost.

Central Ohio. Same as many others here, they keep calling, all hours - even as late as 9:45pm and as early as 6:30am. We never answer the phone, they never leave a msg. Crap like this really ticks me off that stupid politicians killed the "DO call list" bill and opted for the do not call list. 11/7/06 Caller ID said "Western Watts". Picked up the phone, no one there.

Received two calls late Monday evening, no one answered when we said hello. I believe California Penal Code 653m, dealing with harrassing phone calls would apply in multiple callings like this. This definitely causes distress and disrupts your life as witnessed by the other writers. As for not being rude to the caller, they should expect people to be rude if they call an unlisted number unsolicited.

Found info on blog stating they were hired by Republican Party for their get out to vote campaign. The particular survey I responded to was slanted to favor the Republican Party. Stated they were hired by the Terrence Group to conduct the survey.

Western Wats is an opinion research company, technically not a telemarketer so not regulated by federal DNC program. However, their website states you may contact them to opt out, and they'll put your phone number on an internal do not call list.

The DNC does not apply to Western Watts because they are not trying to sell YOU anything, they are simply collecting peoples' opinions. They do surveys for whomever they are hired by, and have no political affiliation. However, when they call you may ask to be put on their own "do-not-call list," and it will be honored. Simply hanging up the phone or saying you're not interested doesn't help, they'll just call back with different surveys down the road. You have to be specific, and avoid being rude. They're just doing their job.

I picked up the call from 801-494-1992 at 9:00PM MDT 8/30/06; Western Watts per my Caller ID. No one was there, and after a couple moments the line was disconnected, so I do not see the point of their call. I am on the DNC list and do not understand why I am suddenly getting funky calls from various telemarketing numbers. Further, I do not understand why there is no one on the other line if I am actually answering. ?!?

Received a call the evening of 8/30. It went to voice mail and recorded what sounds like a noisy room full of people. They left no clear message.

They called my cell phone, said "can you hear me" and then hung up.

got no intro as to who they were just a long drawn out political survey...some personal questions asked at the end of survey. To which I replied, none of your business.

At 8:33 PM EST on 8/28/06 I received a call from 801-494-1992 that says CCI Communications. Thinking it might be someone calling from a calling card I tried to answer the phone. I said Hello several times but no one responded on the other end. SO I said Remove my number and don't call back. then hung up. HOW ANNOYING to have calls like that this late in the evening!

I received a phone call after 7PM on Sunday. No one answered. The first was from 801-494-1992 Western Wats, the second and third from 801-437-3150. After searching the net I found this site wolfmann.blogspot.com - here I was able to have first, my mind at ease that I was not a victim of phone charges and second that there was an answer to who in the world was calling me from Utah. Call them...801-373-7735 and ask to be removed. I left a message to opt-out of their call list (even though I am on the DNC list) and hopefully they will not call again. optout@westernwats.com.

I've gotten two calls in the past two days from this caller. Caller ID said WESTERN WATTS

We don't answer it. Get at least one a day from this number.

They called two times today!!
Once we were not home... no message the caller ID says "Western Watts" ...
Second time we answered and there was noone there!

When husband answered the phone no one was on the other end.

Called twice yesterday, once today - I am on DNC list.

If you are on the do not call registry then got to donotcall.gov and file a complaint. If enough compaints are received action will be taken.

They are morons breaking the DNC laws. You can send them an email at: contact@westernwats.com, then file a report with the FTC DNC.

Have called multiple times! Never leave a message.

They never leave a message on answering the machine. I *69 the last time they called and it was a pre-recorded message from the Western Watts company

It is a consulting firm asking for opinions. Don't answer the call. They should be observing the DoNotCall list.

Based on info from another website, their goal is just to find people who will answer an unknown number, and at what times they will answer. This information is then sold to other telemarketers.

Called 2 days in a row. Yesterday they hung up when I answered. Today they call twice, my caller ID said privacy manager. Privacy manager is a service from the phone company that intercepts calles with no number, anonymous calls. I reversed the number, it is not listed. Like the others I am on every DNC list, state & federal. Who are these assholes?

I don't answer the phone when they call I left a message on my machine the basic greeting then added if you don't leave a message don't call back.

Private name has called every single night this week and now today on Saturday. A little net search showed that this is ostensibly a "survey" company which is nothing more than marketing and should not be excluded from the DNC obligations. I cannot imagine that there are enough people who entertain these people by speaking with them to make their parasitic enterprise worthwhile. What is to stop hundreds of companies from doing this constantly to tie up communication nationwide, or worldwide for that matter. These people should be jailed.

I am on DO NOT CALL since establishing this number 18 months ago.

Two days and they seem to call three or four times a day--every hour. I have answered the phone a couple times and no one is there. Once they left a message on my machine as if someone had answered the phone. Just plain stupid. I am on the DNC for my state and the national registry. I am going to answer when they call so I can give them an ear full.

My credit card company called night and day weekday and weekends to ask if i wanted to add on services to my card. i told them f off if i wanted to add anything i will call you. ten min later i get 801-494-1992 calling me. what the hell. no matter what this card company will not stop buging me.

Caller id said "unknown name" When answering machine picked up a man was talking to a girl and said "you do this one" she say "no, you" he says "come on you did the last one" then they hang up.

The call was a very negative push poll against a Democratic candidate for Congress.

Called our home phone July 5th at 8:22pm. Went to voicemail. No message left. Caller ID said "Private Name" for name.

Caller Id device said Anonymous; ID on phone said Private Call...left no message and I didn't pick up.

Called on a sunday with questions about the local gro. we shop in an d have a bank account in. Since I said yes I had a bank account there they said I couldn't finish the survey.

Found on voicemail, caller who sounded like small child or young woman simply said "Hello." No further message and is listed as Private Caller
