Rec'd call tonight, (02/06/2012) asked if I were Joyce....said speaking and then they asked for my social security number...I have no ideal who these people are...did not give my social out...Who is this CBCS????
Have no outstanding debts...
Got my 1st cellphone in 8 years back in July 2010. Within a few days of
receiving this new cell phone I began receiving frequent calls from 800-947-2987
(appears to belong to a collection agency named CBCS). They originally left me
voice-mails claiming they had information they believed I was unaware of and
that unless they received a call back from me by the end of the business day
they would be forced to make a decision without my input. They did not share any
info other than that, and they never share the company they are representing.
From this I concluded that they had nothing of interest to me and I have never
called them back nor will I ever take their call. My assumption is that they are
a collection agency trying to reach whomever it was that had my cell# before it
was assigned to me. Every phone number in my household is on the national do not call list.
Following is their company info:

RE: FAKE TELEPHONE ACCOUNTS
Several years ago, I found a charge-off on my credit report. It was a big surprise to me (I had never received a collections call), so I called the company listed (the company that “bought” the debt) to find out what it was. The charge was for a telephone (landline) that someone had opened in my honor and then never paid the bill. The amount was less than $500, so I decided to pay it off just to get rid of it.
I told the company representative that in order for me to pay the bill, he’d have to send me copies of the phone bills so that I could determine who had done this to me and deal with them appropriately (I didn’t elaborate on what that meant). He said he couldn’t do that, so I told him I’d get back to him.
I called the telephone company and learned that, to open an account in my name, a person needed my Social Security Number. The phone company was unable to find a record of the “bad” account or find any problems with the five “good” telephone accounts (four landlines and a cell phone) that I had.
I called the collections company again to ask for copies of the phone bill. They said “no,” but claimed to be removing the charge from my credit reports. I didn’t realize at the time that I had asked them to PROVE that they owned the debt, something they apparently couldn’t do.
Just to be safe, I sent registered letters to the credit bureaus explaining the situation. They all answered back in writing stating that the charge had been removed. (I still have all of the letters and delivery receipts.)
Several months later, there was a class-action lawsuit against the Ameritech (baby bell) Company (Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio) to recover damages for customers who had the same thing happen to them. I guess quite a few people had phantom phones installed in their names. It turns out, it was an inside job.
IF I HAD’T CHECKED MY CREDIT REPORT, I WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM.
(Even though I wasn’t able to find out WHO did that to me, because for a telephone the account number is usually the phone number, I was able to determine where the phone was located. I didn’t pursue it any further, though.)

I have had problems with this company before. They pull up a copy of your credit report. Take a company name (usually a phone bill), an address that is there, and put a reachable dollar amount (usually a few hundred dollars). They then put it on your credit report. They are a fraudulent company. They do this so people will hear familiar items (in my case it was a bellsouth bill at an address my wife lived at before we were married that my name was never on) and simply pay the bill to get it off the credit report. As far as I know there is nothing you can do about it to get it off your report except pay it, which I will not do. I simply do not answer numbers I do not recognize. If they start harassing you, simply block their number.
They do not pull your credit report. Persons or business cannot pull your credit report without your permission. It can be given when you sign up for other services and it is written in your disclosure statements as to who share your information
Bob, there are many comments in this thread from people who have already tried to "work with them", and the reps will not listen to or obey any verbal cease-comm. This is arguably the most common problem across the collections industry. "I think more often than not" comments like yours are made by employees.
The smarter response is to stay off the phone, where the collector can best manipulate people. Move the dispute to a paper trail and the agency cannot escape the regulators or private lawsuits.
All: If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.
wanted me to verify if the social security number they had was mine. they must buy their list from AT&T I just got the number 3 months ago.
P.S. CBCS is the rename of CRS.
The company is not bogus, and neither are the debts they are trying to collect. Call them back at 877-334-4763 if need be. If the number they are calling is for someone else, they WILL remove it from their records if you work with them. If it IS you that they are pursuing, then you can ask / insist that they provide you with proof of the validity of the debt.
Bottom line - yes they may be calling the wrong person. Help them realize that and they will leave you alone, but agree with a couple others below.... I think more often than not they have found the right person.
Someone here posted CVCS's call-back # 1-800-947-2987 - which is always cut off at the end of Bob Jones' message.
I called them at that # and read them the riot act. I also told them thet I got the call-back # from a web page full of people who've complained about them and have reported them to the FCC.
At that point, the operator to whom I was speaking seemed to get the message loud and clear.
Its a collection agencey. But they are abusing the phone system. They call non stop and its harrassment by law when you tell them to stop. Their not suspose to keep calling. Its illegal once you warn them to stop calling. They call at 8:30am every morning to wake you up and bug you.Talk to them 1 time then turn them in. I know I found out from my laywer.I have told them seval times now. So I just do not answer any more.Keep copies of their calls.Save anything to do with the way they call you.I already turned them in 2 times now.
These people called my parents house, where I haven't lived in over a decade, asking for me. I have a clean credit report, and admit that I had a couple small bills from the early 90s when I was living on my own that I never paid, a total of around a hundred bucks or so - but, these people say I owe some huge $500+ bill to Verizon. It's not on my credit report, and I'm currently a paying customer with Verizon (and not behind or delinquent in any way) - I'd like to call them back on my VERIZON line and ask them what the heck is going on, but I know arguing with a sleazy collections person is a waste of time. The one that called for me was named "Niel." How could I possibly have a huge amount in collections with a company I'm currently in good standing with? If there was an issue, my phone would have been turned off long before it went to collections. Luckily I hold a law degree, and I have no issues going after fake claimaints. I feel sorry for some of the comments below that say "there's nothin you can do," cuz there is, and it is not at all hard. Just send a letter, and send it return receipt requested with signature confirmation. That's the green card. You can get their physical address from the post below (250 East Town Street, Columbus, Ohio, 43215) - send a letter there with your name and something inside that says "do not contact me in any manner." The next time they call or mail you, you write down the date and exact time, or keep that letter - and you go to small claims court. It is super, super easy. You just take in that green card from your letter, and your hand written list of times they called a nd/or your letters you received in the mail. You may have to pay a court fee, might be like $50. But guess what? You get like $1,000 for EACH TIME they contacted you after that. (that may be just the low end of the scale, I haven't looked at the money in awhile, but I believe it's $1,000). That's a couple weeks' good pay for a few hours of work. They won't defend it, because it costs them more to defend than to pay. And then they WILL STOP CONTACTING YOU. It does not matter AT ALL if you owe them money, or if they are calling your wrong number. Don't be bullied. Pay your debts, play by the rules, and make them do the same.

I get 2 calls a day to my cell phone which I never answer and they have never left a message. I will begin spamming them but will do it from a payphone this way they will not see my number and it will cost them extra. We should all begin calling from a payphone and walk away leaving the receiver off the hook.
I keep getting a call from them using a recording which is illegal and should be reported to the Feds at the link below. It is illegal to use recorded calls even if you are not on the Govt do not call list, so make the report.

I am sick to death of them, they will not leave us alone. We are not the person they are trying to contact and we have repeatedly told them to stop calling. I and my husband have told them repeatedly to take our number off the list, they hand it over to another person from CBCS or whatever they are. I am ready to sue. I am not joking. This is a continuing harrassment on us. They are very rude and I want the calls to stop or action will be taken.
These idiots keep calling my wifes cell phone which she has had for 6 years, trying to get ahold of some guy..One more call and I will contact my attourney who loves cases like this and I'll make som green...... With in the next 30 days thing will be rolling into action. Thanks CBCS for this great opportunity to collect...from u....freaken idiots...They're like a major bowel movement.
Erica from CBCS at 800-947-2987 called for someone named Pussannah H. Zabah.
It is an automated call from a "debt" collection agency. Obviously it is on the last leg of debt collection because they are using automated and I am sure it goes to India for service.
CVCS or CBCS I couldn't tell called me at 8:38am today from an unknown number telling me to call back 800 947-2987 stating that "Neil" was calling about a debt for a name that I don't even use anymore and haven't for years. I was concerned since I have experienced identity theft twice, but now after reading all of these comments I believe it is a scam and I'm not going to try and call back anymore! This is horrible and I can't believe people would do something like this to someone they don't even know...scary the kind of people that are out there...
I've been receiving a lot of calls from this number. I don't return unknown calls. Advise others not to answer either.
This is a rude automated message and the options they give you to press to not work. This is the 3rd time in 6 months I have received this automated message. The bad part is when you call back your are spoken to in such a horrible manner you wish you had not called.
their home office number is 1-800-498-2223 call them here and they promise to remove your number and not call again. I don't believe them......grampa
Received a call from this alleged "company" today. An autodialer left a message from "Erica" saying I needed to call her and resolve a "debt". Since I don't have any outstanding balances overdue, I knew this was fishy. I called back (from another business's number. They wanted my phone number. I told them my name and said you must have it since you called me and I refused to give it to them. Must be a scam.
I have received several calls asking for someone that does not even live at my house. It tells me to have them return their but no way for me to leave them a message or anything. I guess the next time I will just answer it like I am the one they are asking for so that I can actually speak to someone.
04/14/2009 at 8.9pm reference Collection from 2002, How do I verify is true #1-800-947-2987, they ask me from my personal information I didi not give to them
its some sort of automated bill collection agency
I got a call from CBCS trying to collect a debt, I don't have any past due accounts, so I know this is a wrong number. Report them to FTC Do-Not-Call donotcall.gov.
tHESE PEOPLE HAVE CALLED ME ABOUT DIFFERENT PEOPLE FOR THE LAST 2+ YEARS. I'M SICK OF IT.
why are you calling me. i do not owe any money
CBCS is a thug operation. If you get a call from these liars, call the police immediately.
Got a call from 800 947-2987. Very rude and snotty people, would not tell me anything about who they were and for what they were calling about. Asked repeatedly for my phone number. I stated'Well, you called me you apparently already have it" She said 'Ma'am Im looking at a blank screen I dont have your number!" After going back and forth with it (I was just giving this person a really hard time asking ridiculous questions) She got very irate screaming that they were going to come to my home and collect it with 'any means necessary'. i told them to go right ahead and I called the police right after and made a report.
They constantly calls by using recorded messages "Charlie is calling, Please call back" or other one is this message is for "John Doe", please call back, if not, do not listen to the message". While ago, when I answered a phone from them, told them not to call me since I did not know who is "John Doe". I got my new home phone number from a phone company when I moved in a new house. I explained at that time. However, they keep calling. It is so annoying. I will report to FCC.
Same thing as below (comments) only when I called back they were really nasty (and so I was too) and I know I don't owe anything to anyone. They want personal info and won't say anything about who they are or where they are located. They really get nasty (so did I) and they hang up. They finally switched me over to a "supervisor" but I was "disconnected"
When I answered the phone I was on recording for the next available representative to assist me. As soon as the rep answered my call, she asked for someone else in my household who wasn't even around. She stated that the company she was calling from was CBCS, but would not state to what this call was in reference to.
These people are attempting to collect a debt, allegedly owed to Verizon. This is not a valid debt (Verizon engaged in very shady contract/contract cancellation practices, and have been sued over it.) I instructed them NOT to call this number again, the person (Robert?) simply sneeringly told me he was going to keep calling. Verizon is a very dishonest company and have hired a very dishonest company to attempt to collect their dishonest alleged debts.
Anyone calling that can NOT address you by your name or who they are calling for and claiming to be a debt collector smells more like a scam artist. Also used the "KATHLEEN" name (noted in several post here) in the voice mail left on my phone. Thank God for caller ID/vocie mail so you don't have to waste the breath speaking to these folks who have nothing constructive to do.
why do these people claim to have different departments if it is a collection agency.....wouldnt all supposed accounts be collections duhhh
Left message say only "Bitch"
"This is Maria with CBCS I need to talk to Susan Heywood, are you Susan Heywood at 804...?
I received a call from them yesterday, but they didn't leave a message. Today I decided to answer. It was a recorded message telling "Anita J" to call back Kathleen. I called back but someone else answered. I told them that I had been receiving calls from them and if they didn't stop I was going to report them. I said that the person they were asking for did not have this number (maybe they did 2 1/2 years ago). She said my number would be removed. (She wasn't rude or anything like that, but it really annoys me. I know that the person they were asking for was some deadbeat who either used my phone number or used to have it, and now these collection agencies call ME. That's so STUPID. Don't they know that they are bugging the wrong people - or do they care? I haven't received collection agency calls for awhile, but this was starting up again. *I always pay my bills*, so getting calls for some deadbeat person is very very annoying! I think they need to change their strategy instead of bothering the wrong people.)
I have had problems with this company before. They pull up a copy of your credit report. Take a company name (usually a phone bill), an address that is there, and put a reachable dollar amount (usually a few hundred dollars). They then put it on your credit report. This number came up on the CID as CVCS. Automated voice came on and the guy sounded like a total idiot. At the end of the message he yelled "Yee Haw" or something. Reminded me of Howard Deans "YEARRRRGGGG"
PRERECORDED-- IF THIS IS "JOHN DOE" PLEASE STAY ON THE LINE. I SCREEN ALL MY CALLS AND THAT IS WHAT I HEAR ON MY VOICEMAIL
1-800-947-2987 called and left me on hold for 20 minutes before the computer voice said call back later.
These ppl have already called me 4x's this am.. I have prev. asked them to stop calling me cuz I have no idea of the person they are asking for.

I did not answer because I did not know the number. No message was left.
they called me and informed me it was an attempt to collect a debt, and it was a valid debt so i almost gave in and agreed to pay them until, I told her i have the notice at home and i'll mail it in their enclosed envelope. (i was on my prepaid cell and just wanted to end it) that wasn't good enough so she gave me the address to mail the payment, she claimed the address had changed and she would not agree to just send me another notice . Not happy w/ that excuse, I called the company that i owed (directly) and the person i spoke to (at the company) was aware of the creditors they used and stated that the address the lady gave me was not listed and I could just pay the amount in full to the original company, which i have done. Take that CBCS or whoever you are. and now that i think about it how did they get my prepaid cell phone#?
they called my parent house asking for me (havent lived at home for 20 years) told my parents that i owed alot of money....scammers
My mother in law has received calls over the last 4 or 5 months from this phone number. The same script is used as listed in other comments (If this is _____ press one, if this is not _____ press two." ....). I have never given my MIL's phone number to anyone to reach me, other than an apartment community when my husband and I moved in together, so I don't see how they got her number or why they would call her house, when I always have a telephone in my own name, as well as my own residence. Seems to me if they wanted to speak with me so badly, they would just look at my credit for my current address, and send me a letter.....
they leave no message just repeated calls.
They are calling to speak to someone that use to have my phone number, I told them to stop calling but they continue to call.
Basically most of the people are losers on here refusing to pay their debt and they think it's funny to call and call and call to not pay their debt....so basically most of the comments here are worthless about them. I got a call from them today and I actually owed the debt (I moved & forgot to pay the bill)...so most of you all most not know how to pay anything and have nothing to do but ask stupid questions.
I received a phone call from these people and I asked who are you trying to reach, and she said "You called me, who do you want?" I said this number ended up on my caller ID. She just got really rude and hung the phone up in my face. These people are crazy. I never owed any debt. So why are they calling me?
This is Tom and I am trying to reach Britt Miller. When I call back to report that no one at this number was that person, the cr Lanie was very rude and then hung up. I called back and she was even ruder. Stating why did I call back and GOOD DAY and then hung up again. SCAM!!!!!!!!!
Victor wrote--"Automated message asked "If this is _____ press one, if this is not _____ press two." I pressed two. Followed by another automated message..."If ______ is available to come to the phone, press one. If _____ is not available to come to the phone press two." I pressed two. Another automated message said, "This is TOM and _______ needs to call me back at 1-800-947-2987, this is TOM and ______ needs to call me back at 1-800-947-2987."
I Dont even know the person that are looking!! and i have several calls during the week, but today they really pits me off..... saturday at 7:30 am!!!!sd"
I believe I received the same automated call. I pressed two in response as well. I figured they wanted to verify the name and phone number, so why make it easy for them. The call was on 6/10/08 at 8:02 AM in Ohio!
A few more things in order for them to remove your number you have to give them your number remember they already have your number anyways, its for verfication and thats the only way they can pull up the account. Sometimes if their on a dialer system your number may not show up. So don't be afraid to give the number that they already have in their system anyways. Also if their volunteering to remove your number why would you reject it or question it you should be quick to get it done? Its not a scam its a real company just with the wrong info but if your name is the same as someone their looking for or address is where someone once stayed then when they're skip tracing thats how they run across your info. Frequently check your credit report and make sure theres no unknown activity going on. One can never be to careful. -Collection101-
This company is a collection agency I actually do have an account with them but its about to fall off of my report so their trying real hard to collect on it now but thats the nature of the business. I use to do collections so I'll give you guys some tips. I know it seems good to hang up but to a debt collector that just means I'll call again and add another call to my records. In collections it works off of accounts worked and calls made and getting a debtor to pay. So when you answer thats just another account worked and a step closer to "bonus pay". If they have the wrong number inform them or call the number back if its automated and ask for a supervisor and inform them they are contacting the wrong individual and to remove your number and stay on the line with them while its being done. If the calls continue inform them you are going to report them for harassment. Don't say your going to call the police like I've heard people say before what are they going to do. Read up on the "FDCPA" this is the bible for debt collection regulations. Hope this info is helpful. Oh yeah if you receive more than 2 calls in one day( 1 automated and 1 human is all you should receive) then you really need to consider filing a report immediately.
this is a BIG SCAM.....
This company has called my house - IN ERROR - 14 times today. I reported them to Comcast-told them NOT to call me anymore, and they are still doing it! They just called again as I am typing this, and they are looking for someone I don't even know! I guess they don't believe me? I am going to *57 and put the trace into the phone company, and then have it pulled by our local police dept. if it doesn't stop. There must be some kind of law about this! They started at 8am, and have called 14 times by 5:30pm. And it starts with a tape recording, and then a phony named person comes on - at one point I spoke to the same man 3 times, and each time he provided me with a different name.
Left a voicemail that only said "do not continue to listen to this message." That is the least useful voicemail message I think anyone has ever left ever.
Collection agency looking for deadbeats...........SCAM??!!
anagie remundo? can they at least come up with better names? >=[
they called twice and did not leave a message but i called the number back and some man answered asking someone. It was someone i know, and he wouldn't tell me anything else. When I asked him to again identify his company and what it is he refused simply asking again for that person to speak on the phone. In the background I could hear multiple voices and I honestly think they might have sang happy birthday to someone.
Hi, These CBCS folks called my home number today 4/3/2008. My caller ID showed they were calling from 800-947-2987. I called them back and got a live person. She was very tense and wanted my account #. I said I have no account # and told her that they had called me. She then wanted my phone # that they had called. I refused to give it to them. She said she would not be able to remove my number unless I gave it to them. I told her that I never asked her to remove my number, why would I want her to remove my number. Now she was getting hot! She said that they would continue to call my number unless I gave them my number to have it removed. I told her I would continue to call her back and play the same game. She then had a few choice words and ended our conversation.
So go ahead and please call these folks back at 800-947-2987 and play their game. It very fun and will really give you a warm fuzzy feeling.
A woman named Janelle called, left a message claiming they were collecting debt, and mentioned something about payment with Visa or Mastercard, and left the number 800 947 2987. No one in the household owes debt, the company name is bogus, and this is a huge scam.
Called at 2:00 p.m. on 12 Mar 2008 and refused to leave a message.
my daughter got a call from these people last night about an old bill with verizon from 8 years ago which had been paid to another collection agency
its been so long, she no longer has the credit card she paid it off with 8 years ago and can no longer prove it was paid.
hope you have good luck getting your issue respolved
Funny story. They called few times, didn
Automated message asked "If this is _____ press one, if this is not _____ press two." I pressed two.
I Dont even know the person that are looking!! and i have several calls during the week, but today they really pits me off..... saturday at 7:30 am!!!!sd
I get a machine that says this message is for esmeralda? Push 1 if it is 2 if its not then it hangs up. They call at 8 am on sat urday and sunday please someone get me there direct home lines... I will love to wake there arse up.. Also when i call this number it gives me a machine saying that they are not open gives me the business hours when they should be open.. If you call at those times they are not open.
This call is for Joan. If this is not Joan, please disregard this call.
Caller said he worked for a collection service agency. He said he wanted to collect an 8 year old debt, which does not appear on my credit report. He declined to send me any documentation that I even had a debt. Then he vowed to continue calling me to collect the debt. nothing he said sounded credible.
I just got a call from this number, also. It was a recorded message that said. "This call is for Martha Whittaker. If you are not Martha Whittaker, do not listen to the rest of this message." Then, there was no more message. I do not know a Martha Whittaker so obviously this collection co. is very poorly run one. Seems a waste of time to pay for automated collection systems that just call random numbers asking for random people.
what is going on?, just got a call and found out that i supposively had a past due amount of $513.00 for an old account??? will someone help me as to what is going on here? i just checked my credit report, and all three were clean? is this a scam???
These people, actually an apparently automated recording, called me again today leaving a message as before: "This message is for ________ _______. If you're not _________ __________, then do not continue listening to this call." Nothing more was recorded. The person named still is unknown to me. I called the number shown in caller ID. When I called 800-947-2987, a woman answered "CBCS" but didn't give her name. I told her of the message received and of having no knowledge of the person named in the message. She asked the number called and I gave it. I then asked whether I'd be called again by the company. After checking whether other accounts were associated with my number, she indicated I won't. I stated, "Good, because if I receive another call, I'll contact the state attorney general's office. This resulted in a snicker from this otherwise polite person.
You thought they would be more creative in 2008... a call from 1-800-498-2223
It was an automated voice message "This call is for (my name), please press 1 if you are (my name)".
And then I was talking to a lady who is with CBCS Collecting Agency, she is calling to collect a past due bill from Verizon dated back in year 2001. She even provided the correct (previous) phone number and my (previous) address for my information. And then she proceeds to ask me to pay for this bill which I owe for the past 7 years and is (magically) due TODAY. I refused to give her any information until I received a written document/ prove from Verizon
800-947-2987, talk to you then.
Got a computer generated phone call with a recording to call back today 800 947 2987. when I called she asked for my tel number and name. Then she said she could not verify, but wanted my social security number to pull up an account.I refused and hung up.

Scary!! They are calling my prepaid cell phone. I don't answer.
Today a message was left on my voice mail saying, "If you're not _(unknown female name)_, does not continue to listen to this message," then after a few seconds the message ended. This same message was left a week ago. This evening I called the number. The woman answering identified herself as Myra. She was very rude. I asked the name of the business and she refused to give it, repeatedly asking the number from which I called when I didn't have an account number to give when requested. She said, "I know why you're calling, you don't want us to call you." I asked to speak with a supervisor, resulting in being on hold a minute or two. Myra then returned to the line saying no supervisor was available. WHen I said I would report the company to the Texas Attorney General's office, she replied, "You do that. Have a good night (approximately)."
They left a message on my voicemail -ON MY CELL PHONE - and said "bXtch". I was very offended. I do not owe anyone anything! I called back to verify who they were and they wouldn't tell me! Terrible!
worst scum ever born ! bad news . don't answer their call.
Called telling me I owed them a debt from Verizon, (called my cell phone when I have a land line) I did at one time owe the debt but has been paid off. They got information from a past credit report, the guy threatened me that this was being reported on my credit report as of yesterday. Wanted me to verify all my information with them, they wouldn't read it to me and me verify. Told them I wasn't agreeing to anything until I see something in writing and then he asked me when I did receive the letter so they had the information in the system, how was I going to pay and asked me for my payment information. BIG FLAG!!! Haven't received anything in writing about this debt and talked to the company that I did have the debt with and they show it has been paid for TWO years!!!! Be very careful with this company.
We get calls from this number -- before 9 AM -- frequently for a Dorothy Berg, who has never lived here, purportedly from "Kathleen." When we call the number to complain, CBCS (we did get the company name) HANGS UP ON US.
This message is for (gave my name).
Well, I have receieved 5 calls from this number and I have an unlisted phone number.
I contacted my phone company and added this number to my blocked call list.
Good bye, whoever it is.
Is this number and the agency; CBCS for real?! I can't verify any of it and when I called back to ask where they were located, etc. the person was very rude and basically told me that it is my choice to believe they exist or not! What gives? the number I was given is 1-800-498-2223 and the person I spoke to is Kaine. Claimed to be the manager of this agency, etc. Threated me with credit score, etc.
Called on my cellphone at 9:15 p.m. asking for Laura Dafforn. Told her no one here by that name and I don't know the person.
At 4:43pm-this is krista and she's attempting to collect a debt. please call 18009472987. caller id showed another number of 866-902-3451 instead.
Called again today. When my husband answered they hung up. When they called 2 days ago they hung up when I answered the phone. HAve asked them for years not to call my home. They use to asked for someone by name.
I have asked these people for years not to call me. Seems the person that had this number 6 years ago didnt pay there bills. I have asked them not to call... no they call and hang up on us.
The keep calling my cell phone. "Hi this is "name" what is your account number." I ask who it is and they say "CBCS" but to tell me any more they want my name and account numbers.

this is a call for (My sister-in-law). The lasy on teh phone wanted her home phone number & I said I would not give that information out to ANYONE. She told me they had a right to talk to (SIL) and I said leave a number & When I see her, I'll tell her. She wasn't too happy, but I wasn't budging. The number was 1-800-498-2223
someone called her...I called the number to let them know they had the wrong number, but they wouldn't hear of it. Very annoying. I thought I would be courteous so they wouldn't waste their time and money..but whoever answered was truly obnoxious. They don't care if they have the wrong number or not.
This message is for "My Name" and this call is from Tom. I have had difficulty reaching you by phone. Please call me at 8009472987. Please call me today.
"..om and I have been unable to reach you by phone. Please call me at 18009472987." (didn't even wait for the beep on my answering machine!)
This debt collector called asking for the guy who previously lived in this apartment, saying he gave my # to reach him at. Obviously this company sometimes searches the last known address on a person, thus why they called me. I don't get the whole lying bit, saying he gave them my #, since he wouldn't have any idea what it was in the first place. Bunch of idiots.
This is CBCS
I picked up a call from this number and after a pause, a stilted automated message started playing, saying they were trying to reach a particular person (my brother), and asking me to press one if I was that person or two if I wasn't, then one if that person was available, two if he wasn't. When I pressed two twice, I was informed that my brother needed to call Tom back today at this number. Sounds awfully fishy to me, too.
Hello, this is Robert from CBCS, we are attempting to collect debt. Please call back at 18009472987.
I'm not calling back. Definately a scam. The message above was automated and played as soon as I picked up the phone. Not a voicemail. The call ended after the message.
A collections agency looking for their money. From what I have seen above, some people never had the accounts, so they should look into Identity theft. Check your credit reports people!
These people are a collections agency. Unfortunately, they have two accounts in which I did rightfully owed to the companies that turned my account over to them, but just forgot about during a hectic move I had made a few years ago. For everyone else that doesn't know who these people are, maybe they should look into ID theft of their names and/or numbers which they held once, since those that do not know about the accounts or companies they are calling about might have information on the whereabouts and numbers they are calling about.
Just my two cents...they just want their money.
Automated message asked "If this is _____ press one, if this is not _____ press two." I pressed two. Followed by another automated message..."If ______ is available to come to the phone, press one. If _____ is not available to come to the phone press two." I pressed two. Another automated message said, "This is Barbara (or some woman's name) and _______ needs to call me back at 1-800-947-2987, again this is (woman's name) and ______ needs to call me back at 1-800-947-2987." This same toll free number shows up on my caller ID at least once a week and sometimes, several times a day. Fortunately I have call blocking on my phone and will activate it tonight after seeing these messages. There was no indication of where they were calling from or for what reason.
"This is Jeff from CBCS, I'm calling to collect a debt, and any information received will be used for that purpose. Please call me back at 800-947-2987" (paraphrased message--sounded automated). Left on our machine multiple times over the past few months. Finally decided to try to get off their list and got Bridget on 6/21/2007 at ~8:40 p.m. ET. I said I had received multiple messages from them and wanted my number removed from their list. She asked for the number, I gave it. She asked for my name, I said "Abe." She asked if either of two people I did not recognize were here, I said that no one by those names lived here. She asked how I knew them(!). I said I did not know anyone by those names, and did not recognize the names. She said she would mark the number as a bad number.
Maybe there's hope? Time will tell. I tried to keep my annoyance after months of these calls in check, and perhaps that helped--Bridget was not rude.
"This is Tom and I have been attempting to call you several times without any success. Call me at 800-947-2987
This is Jeff w/CBCS Debt Collections. Please call me back at 1-800-947-2987.
"tom" called and when I returned the call it was from a company that claims to be "CBCS" and they were demanding that i owed them money from Verizon. I've never had an account. there. after refusing to give them my social security number, the woman got rude and sarcastic. Eventually she refused to even verify the name on the account (mine) she would say "look lady, i'm not going to repeat to you your own name. I know it's you"
I smell scam
"Sarah" really rude - I have never ever had any debt problems -so this call is obviously not for me.
They called me at work to collect a debt. Pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Act informed them that it was not a time and place to call. They asked for a number to call me at I told them there wasn't one. He got rude with me asking if I had a cell or home. I told him not one to give him. He said "You can't just run from this debt. I am going to keep calling you at this number then" I told him if he did they would be reported but they could contact me by mail. He then hung up on them. Don't take CRAP from these people. Report them if they harass you too.
Tom again!!! What does he want?
this is tom call me atthis #
Ok I finally answered this....some woman came on and asked for a John Dole I said sorry wrong number. She then said ok well he gave your number as a contact what is your name.......I said I don't think so and she hung up on me. I smell SCAM!
claimed we owed money at a place we never lived. Claimed it was a verizon bill. Would not give details so we could call back to confirm. Hung up after we asked that question.
I receive these calls at least twice a day at my business. I'm glad I have CallerID so I can screen out these loser JO's!! Send 'em to Iraq with a slingshot and let them chase the Talibans!
