Really, really bad thing to have as your caller ID when it's a legit call. This turned out to be by whoever handles Paypal's debit card and was actually a legitimate check to verify a couple of charges I'd made. The first call I got from this number I just hung up instantly, thinking "Oh, not that scam again". Second time I realized it was "Please hold for the next available representative" which was *not* the usual, so I hung on and it turned out to be a completely legitimate enquiry.
Pretended to be from my bank. They are not legitimate. Possible fraud
This number is ligitimate for Card Services. I received a phone message from Card Services wanting me to verify some charges. The message cited my credit union's name and the type of credit card along with the correct names of the two account holders as they are listed on the account. I called back and verified my phone number and name but not the last four digits of my card. I entered 0 each time I was prompted until the system transfered me to a live person. They tried to verify four recent purchases from places and times that were not familiar to me such as ITunes and FastHost internet purchases in the middle of the night. Since I did not recognize the purchases I was told the card would be blocked and I needed to contact my financial institution directly to order a replacemet card. I became suspicious since the call came after business hours for my credit union so I called the number on the back of the credit card and ended up speaking to an after hours lost or stolen card representative from...Card Services. I told them I wanted to block my card. When they asked to verify my address I asked THEM to give me the first two numbers of my street address, which they did. They then told me my card already had a block placed on it. So this number is ligitimate if the caller is Card Services. They are a third party representing financial institutions to protect customers from fraudulant activity. Looks like they just saved me from a big headache.
Got a call last night (Sunday AND Mother's Day)from this number. Caller ID showed Card Services. They left a message on my machine stating that they are affiliated with PNC and need to verify some suspect purchases made with my debit card. I checked my online statement, nothing odd there. Went into PNC, and she told me they do not have 3rd parties contacting their customers, and that there are no holds or suspicious activity. She wants the phone number, so she can submit it to corporate.

I hung up on them when they put me on hold, called my bank and gave them the phone number that was on caller ID. She said it has nothing whatsoever to do with our bank and to give them NO INFORMATION.
I have to believe they are not a legit company.
THIS IS NOT A LEGIT THING! I just got scammed for 2 transactions saying they were from Paypal! I bought it and upon asking about a replacement card when there were 2 charges not of mine, they said they weren't sure ... So then calling Paypal - they confirmed they are NOT affiliated with them... The phone call - they asked for the last 4 digits of my credit card and then the expiration - so exactly enough information to get fraudelant charges on my card! DO NOT buy anyone saying this is legit because it is NOT and you'll regret it. Always call direct to the bank before providing info JUST TO BE SAFE. Don't be one of the millions to get scammed!
I recently got a new Debit card from PayPal and have been using it pretty frequently. I recieved a call from this number today and its legitimate, this is PayPal's verification service for their debit cards. I had to verify 3 transactions and I didn't have to give out any personal information, just the last 4 digits on the card and the phone number I received the call at (all of which is not anything anyone can do anything with, its just for verification).

"Nate from Police and Firefighters National Credit Union" tried to obtain personal info regarding our company's VP, claiming there is a problem with his debit card. Obvious scam.
this is an attempt to get card and account info. Claimed to be from PNC with problem on omy card account. Called, auto ansmwered "card services", but did not say anything about PNC. Asked for last four didgits of account. Looks like the also try Wells fargo and Paypal. As well as others....
just got a call from 800-830-8574. left a vm for me to call 800-622-1361 (transaction verification department). called my credit union. as suspected this was a bogus deal. caller id was blank save the calling phone number.
The number is a legitimate phone number used by First Data Resources - a credit card processor that services Wells Fargo, Paypal, etc. However, keep in mind that the phone number can be used in vishing fraud. Meaning that the caller is using equipment that shows on your caller id as this number even though they are calling from somewhere else. If legitimate they will never ask you for your card number or any card information - they will only list charges and ask you to verify them. If they ask for any personal information, hang up and call your card company directly.
Identified himself as PayPal Security verifying recent charges on my PayPal Debit Mastercard.
They didn't ask for any information, like credit card numbers, etc. They just asked to speak to {insert name}, and they asked me if I authorized the last transactions on my debit card. They knew the places I had purchased stuff and the amount.
I talked to paypal and they verified that this phone number is from their security department....so this is very legit.
i got this number calling me also
PNC check card visa checking charges on account.
Wells Fargo Security (First Data Resources)
It's legit. I ordered a few things online today and paid some bills and had this message waiting. Just confirming my transactions. Good to know they are watching out for me.
Okay, I got a recorded message on my answering machine that told me to call this phone number. They said it was about my recent PayPal card transactions. I didn't know if it was for real, SO I went to the PayPal site and logged in.
I wrote them AND called Customer Service. Get this: customer service said the number was not a PayPal number(although they verified those purchases!) HOWEVER later, PayPal responded to the email I had sent to their contact email and said it was REAL PayPal number.
This is a classic case of one hand not know what they other is doing, haha.
I suggest that no matter what a caller or email says, if you go and contact PayPal via their website, you can find out for certain. Okay, it takes a few extra minutes, but it is worth it.
It was Paypal security verifying a charge.
this number called me, never asked for any information. they called regarding my recend cc transaction (wells fargo). It's all good.
i called and seems legit but i was very nervous they ask for the last 4 of your card # and have you verify some recent transaction
Legit - verified transaction.
Received this call on a Saturday and fortunately I called them right away. No personal info was required other than the last 4 digits of my debit card which show on receipts anyway. Upon giving this info I was given a list of 4 transactions to verify from most recent back. The first three (the newest) were not legit, but the fourth was. Obviously I OK'd the one and called my bank this morning to cancel the card and have it replaced. Meanwhile the three bogus transactions did not even show up on my Pending Transactions and my account balance is what it should be.
This service, though you may see different names displayed on your ID, IS in fact legit. They do not represent a single bank or service (such as Pay Pal) but instead work to protect many Visa/Mastercard institutions.
I received a call from them and they left a message to call about fraud on my check card I returned the call and sure enough as I checked my online bank statement some use my card number to purchase gas in TX I live in Delaware
I called my bank and they said the call came from their fraud division and any charges will be refunded. seams like alot of bank use this serice
This is , " Card Services " calling to verify Pay Pal Purchase(s). They were verifying a purchase from a company we have not done business with in the past . Took less than two minutes to complete the call , and NO sensitive personal Information is asked , or required .
Definitely legitimate. I called them twice, grilled them, and refused to do anything but verify the number that they left the message on. They told me they could pull up the questionable activity based on the phone number. They did and it was my son, and they correctly identified the name of his cc. They said they could only talk to him. This was for real. I feel better now, I thought this was a scam. PNC Bank uses them to verify possible suspected activity.
I got a call from this number after using my PayPal debit card more than I usually do within a week's time and for some fairly large purchase totals. I appreciated that they were checking to see that the purchases were made by me. It was all handled through their automated service and I was glad I had my receipts handy to check the amounts and dates so that it went pretty quickly.
Its legit. I called it and they said some Epoch.com charged me $39 for something on a card that I hadn't use in months. Def legit and worth a call. They had all my info and only needed the last 4 digits of the card which is harmless. I highly suggest calling, as with anyone never give them your full card # or security code. Companies like these dont need anything except for you to verify.
Kept getting a call from this unknown 800number. Told me not to hangup, but to stay online to verify recent atm activity. Then I was put on a long musac hold. Sounded suspicious, so I hung up. The calls wouldn't stop. I called Wells Fargo. They were not familiar with the number; not them. Called Paypal (thanks to this site). They verified it was legit, but couldn't clear up the verification themselves. I had to call the number back. I refused to give them any bank numbers. They verified a lousy $18 purchase I had made using a single use MasterCard transaction made thru Paypal. The transaction used money from my Paypal balance, not my bank balance. I was furious. This took a good two hours to track down, verify, call back and deal with. So, the call is legit. I still gave no bank numbers...only a piece of my mind! If I had not found this website, I would have been going nuts.
Received Automated message on vm.... Called the number back... automated - ask for phone number, then last four digits of paypal credit card... intentionally put wrong number to see if an actual person would answer - in which they did... asked for the phone number in which the voice mail was left on, asked for my name, and then asked to verify a purchase made on the card - told me the amount and the entity that charged that amount and ask if that was made by me.... interestingly enough the charge was made on the 14th of March and they called to verify the charge on the 27th of March --- seems to me that Paypal's credit card verification company is a little behind - if it takes them 13 days to call to verify charges... Not surprise - it is Paypal, or should I say a subsidiary of Ebay.. which if anyone knows Go ol... we enforce policies and procedures randomly and when we want too and like to make up policies and procedures because we are bored and enforce them and then don't explain what the violation is but will give the broad text book - policy title response... okay enough of me rambling... seems legit, didn't ask me to give any personal info, or credit card numbers, etc.. just name and phone number..... Not a scam or a phish or a spoof attempt... on this call..
This number is legit, called Paypal who verified number belongs to MasterCard to verify suspicious transactions.
People are saying this number is the real First Data, but if you go to the First Data website these are the phone numbers they provide for themselves:
Phone: +1 303 967-8000
Toll Free: 800 735-3362
Not 800-830-8574. If you google the number from the website, you get First Data and all their various roles. If you google the number these posts are about, you get more sites with posts just like this and no company whatsoever. I don't know about anyone else, but that to me says phishing scam under the guise of a legit company.
I missed the call, it left a vm so when I called it back as directed the automated system asked for number the vm was left on and then the last 4 of my credit card. Not feeling secure with the call I hung up and went downstairs to the Wells Fargo bank. The represenative made some calls and confirmed that this is a legit number and that they were verifing a possible fraud charge. So no worries from this number.
I just got a call from this number and didn't answer. I am extrememly cautious with calls from 800#'s. I called it back and got a very nice lady just wanting to verify as purchase I made yesterday with my paypal card. The purchase was made by me and they didn't ask me any "personal" information other than to verify my phone number and name. It was legitimate.
This was legitimate.
I don't have Wells Fargo, or any other accounts mentioned by other people ..still I received this call...so I am a little doubtful about the nature of the call.
LOT OF STATIC ON PHONE MESSAGE NOT CLEAR SOMETHING ABOUT A DR'S OFFICE EITHER A VISIT OR BILL COULDN'T UNDERSTAND REST OF MESSAGE COULDN'T CALL BACK CALLER UNKNOWN
called 07/02/2008 Just heard alot of music
Verified PayPal transactions. Wanted to make sure that they weren't fraudulent.
did not answer
This is suspicious, generally, if your financial institution needs to contact you concerning your account they will do so directly. Here are some steps to use to protect your information. The company calls themselves First Data Resources. If this number should show up on your caller id, (1) I suggest you demand to speak with a customer service representative, you may have to hold for more than 2 minutes and I suggest you stay on the line; (2) They will ask you for certain info, I would only give them the phone number they called you at and ask them to identify themselves and their company also ask for the reference number associated with their request if none is available then demand to know the account number in full (not just the lat 4 digits) if the will not provide this information to you hang up immediately and call your bank!, (3) If they claim that they are tryin to reach concerning your banking/credit accounts and need to "verify" charges tell them that you will contact your financial institution directly. Do not give them the last four digits of the card/account they are calling about! (4) Contact your bank. If there is a legitamate concern about your account, request that your bank contact you directly - not via a third party and ask them if you can set up an account passcode to help prevent unauthorized access to your account info. As a general rule, never ever give out any personal information over the phone no matter who is calling you.
I got a message from this number and I called my bank directly instead. They said it sounded suspicious because the message asked me to call an 800 number back and they don't do that. So she checked my accounts anyway and found that there was a note that someone tried to contact me regarding some charges I made at a gas station. They advised me to always call the bank branch directly first.
Called to verify a lot of charges, we called the bank to clarify because the person that called mumbled and seemed unsure of what he was doing. Apparently it is legit.
--NO FRAUD ALERT--
This was most definitely a Paypal call center with accurate information on my account. They verified my card number (they provided it in fact), and asked for my last name to verify. They then rattled off the last 4 transactions WITH amounts and simply asked me to verify if I made the purchases.
Automated message from "card services" but no bank name was provided. I called that number back, entered my phone number and forced my way to an operator. I asked them who they were and they told me First Data which is a payment processor of credit cards who does processing for many different banks. I know that First Data does this but when I asked which account their call was in reference to since I have several at several different banks they claimed (in two separate calls) that 'the system was down and they couldn't tell me'
I'll probably try again and see if that line holds up but this is questionable at this point in my mind.
Two calls with two voice-mails (did not answer) in the last two days. Says the call is from Wells Fargo Fraud Prevention and needs to verify recent charges. However, they are calling for a person who is not at this number...If it's legitimate, too bad for the lady they're calling about, because I'm not calling and going through automated-phone hell just to clear it up.
Automated call checking on Fidelity transactions. Fidelity did not know of that 800 number, nor was our account flagged for security check.
This was a call from my bank checking a recent purchase from Apple Store. It seems that Apple Store had ran my ATM card information a couple times during the purchase and my bank wanted to verify that I did purchase an item through the store. The only strange thing was that the purchase was for $20 -- not a very substantial amount. However, I believe this to be a legitimate call.
This call was from 'card services' regarding charges made to my account. I contacted PNCBank as that's the only card I use and they said they did not have any issues with my charges and would not initiate such a call. So I never called this number.
They called to verify the last few transactions I made on my PayPal card. Definitely legit.
Their 800 number correctly identified my calling number so I pressed 1 to confirm. The next information was supposed to be to enter the last 4 digits of my PNC VISA card (which I don't have) so I held for a live operator. She asked my name and gave me the name of the person they had my telephone number associated with. When I told her there was nobody by that name at this number, she appologized and said they would mark it as an incorrect contact number. When I asked what "Card Services" they were, I was told they verify purchases for several banks.
This was just like most people said. I made a bunch of purchases today, and it was a company calling to verify that I made the charges. The charges and company types were correct, so this IS legit..
Called last night to check on a Wells Fargo charge I had tried to make, that got declined (see recent problems with Wells Fargo to see why!)
I chatted with the guy a little. He said he works for a 3rd party that assists a # of banks with security issues. He asked me NOTHING suspicious (just wanting to know if I was the one that had tried to make the charge), and had details on a problem transaction that really no one else would know about.
Definately not a scam.
Received a call on August 13, 2007 at around 9:40 AM: an automated recorded female message stating that "We are calling to verify current credit card activities. All our agents are currently busy. Please hold and stay on the line."
I wanted to stay on the line to see what kind of person/company would provide such a retarded "service" (calling me and asking *me* to hold???), but I mistakenly disconnected, so I didn't get a chance to find out more.
At this point I am flagging this as SCAM - until proven otherwise.
It was PayPal Security verifying recent charges on my PayPal Debit Mastercard. They didn't ask for any information, like credit card numbers, etc. They just asked to speak to {insert name}, and they asked me if I authorized the last five transactions on my debit card. They knew all of the places I had purchased stuff and the amounts, so it is legit.
Got a call today. I bank with Bank of The West. Using a Mastercard. They just checked that I authorized $500 worth of various transactions in a single day. Didn't ask me for cc num or account info. Just my name followed by yes or no questions about where I shopped.
I've been receiving calls from this number and another, different "companies" trying to get me to verify charges on my credit card. This IS a scam, as made apparent by the numerous posts saying "I called my credit card company, and the were not responsible for this call". Also, on the messages I've received, it would be ENTIRELY sensible, for this "service" to remind you that you can always call the number on the back of the card if you have questions; that they don't remind you of this, PROVES THIS IS A SCAM!!!
also, I forgot to mention that paypal customer support now gives this number out as their card services number (the one I have from january is no longer in service). I say this is a legit call.
paypal card services. if people are getting wells fargo calls from this then apparently wells fargo handles paypal's card issuance, I don't remember. I was not able to bypass the "please enter your card number" (I'm guessing since the call was ABOUT my card) but only the last 4 digits were requested of me. either way the automated system had my first and last name and the rep had my 5 recent purchases.
Received a call from this number and let it go to voicemail. I called back and got 'Card Services'. Spoke to a rep and they seem legit. They were verifying some charges on a Bank of the West card for an account I don't use often.
While calls from this number are likely legit, be aware that caller ID can be faked very easily, so call them back or just be very careful about what details you give them.
I got the call to my voice mail today saying it was wells fargo fraud detection. I hadn't used the card in over a month. I called wells fargo, rather than the number and was told my accounts were in order.
Unsure if this was legit. They said it was Paypal.Paypal sends me email why would they call? My account is in order
no one one the line
I returned the call. Interactive auto ans. I was told that they were checking activity on my Premier America Credit Union acct. I entered the last 4 digits of the Master card I thought it was which did match the auto info. Spoke with rep who verified last transactions. An attempt had been made to use my card tho the card was in my possession. I think this is a central security used by many financial institutions.
I generally do not answer calls that come up "Out of Area" in caller id - like this one. I called Wells Fargo the next morning and was told that the call was legitimate, but that I was welcome to call the phone number on the back of the credit card to verify the purchases. I'll continue to not answer or return "Out of Area" phone calls, but this is legit.
This number is legit. Wells Fargo Business VISA was calling to verify charges. But be aware that fraudsters can forge caller ID read-outs.
I called and didn't enter in the last 4 digits. All they wanted was to know if the last few transactions on my debit card were correct. They didn't ask any leading questions. It is Wells Fargo on behalf of my bank just checking frequent activity.
The people from this transaction verification service hired by Wells Fargo called me again. I now know their number and don't answer their calls.
Here is what I sent to Wells Fargo regarding these calls:
"The company Wells Fargo has hired to verify credit card transactions has succeeded in driving me away from using my Wells Fargo card. Your transaction verification service has called me 2-3 times a month wanting to verify normal transactions that I make. They have yet to call due to a fradulent transaction. These calls come repeatedly, take too long to process, are intrusive, and are not welcome.
I monitor my credit card transactions daily via the web site. If there is a question about any one transaction I will call Wells Fargo. If there is a transaction that actually could be fradulent, I would welcome a call from Wells Fargo to talk about THAT ONE transaction, not verifying 10 or 20 routine transactions.
Just wanted you to know why you will not be seeing me as a Wells Fargo credit card user until this policy stops.
The number, 800-830-8574, which shows on my Caller ID when your verification service calls will never be answered. It has been blocked on my end."
Paypal tells me this call is initiated by a company contracted by Mastercard, NOT Paypal (or Wells Fargo,or PNC or other). This is why many customer service agents at your particular version of Mastercard (maybe Visa too, dunno) are unaware of the call - they simply don't know because it's not on their computer system (unless there is a 'security hold' already in place - which means your card won't work and they will direct you to the other company for verification anyway). Paypal saw no problems with my card, but when they asked me if I made any large or out of the ordinary purchases lately (I do once a month, and get the call once a month) they suggested I call "Debit Card Security", run by another company. They gave me the phone number and guess what? Same 800 number. IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS CALL BEING SAFE OR NOT, BY ALL MEANS CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD AND ASK THEM TO PROVIDE YOU WITH THE NUMBER FOR "DEBIT CARD SECURITY". This other company (not Paypal) has put a security hold on my card twice - they MAY do the same to you if you don't verify your charges. If you call from the phone number registered on your account their system will recognize you - enter the last four digits of your card - this is safe - it will not compromise your card. Then the automated system will have you verify the last five charges approved on your card. That's it, you are done and you won't have to worry about potential embarrassing card rejections.
Called insisting on going through my recent credit charges. They always call at the worst times. I monitor my account through Wells Fargo Online and alert Wells Fargo immediately if there is a problem. I'm really getting tired of these calls and refuse to take them any more. If Wells Fargo can't deal with this, I'll be using my AMEX in the future.
Wells Fargo Security - valid number. Did not ask for card number or any password info. Computerized voice linked to my account and asked me if I made specific transactions (they supplied info - I only had to press 1 or 2). They also refer you to the number on your card for more info.
no message. id said toll free number only 3 rings
Long pause before someone answered, obviously the call was placed by a call center computer. The call is from a company Wells Fargo hires to verify credit card transactions. They call me about once a month and go through the last week or so of transactions on my credit card asking if they are legit. At first I was OK with these calls. But now they are calling and verifying charges for merchants that I use all the time and are part of my normal charge pattern, which is getting irritating. I monitor my VISA charges daily on the Wells Fargo web site. I wish Wells Fargo used better screening criteria before calling, usually at a bad time, to verify charges. Even better, I wish they would email me the transactions of concern and I could reply at a time convenient to me, not them, if there is a problem. I'll forward this comment on to Wells Fargo card services, too.
Legitimate call from Check Card Services - all they do is verify any activity on your account that they flag as suspicious. I think you go through and verify the last five transactions - I very much appreciated the call.
I got call from This number. I redialed and it was asking for credit card information. I did not provide as I was not sure if the call was from Wells Fargo. Later I verified with Wells Fargo and found that this number do not exist to Wells fargo.
When I called in it was PayPal I used #3 they wanted to verify a charge.
I called my bank and asked if there security department had actually made any inquires into my card usage and they said that they had and I should return the call to the number so I wouldn't have any delays in transactions. Legitimate.
THIS IS A SCAM CALL. I called my ONLY bank and asked if there was any problems and they told me that they would NEVER call like that. I gave them no info. This is a scam! Don't give them anything!
The call was legitimate. I did not have to provide any personal information (by pressing 3). They verified 5 recent purchases (including 1 paypal). It was obviously a securiy call.
I sincerely doubt this is a legitimate security call. Yes, I recently made a fairly large purchase on my paypal debit card, but when paypal wants to ask you something about your account, THEY call you and caller ID shows PayPal. These folks call every day and no message is left. When I finally called back, a computerized voice said, "Thank you for calling card services," but did not say for what bank, recited the (completely bogus) number that the call was allegedly left for, and asked me to enter my phone number if it was different. I entered my phone number and then it asked for "the last four digits of your credit card number." I did not. It did not give me an option to say "card not present." So I hung up. I will report it to PayPal and see what they say.
Turned out to be a legitimate Wells Fargo security call. I wouldn't have had the patience to wait on hold for so long if I hadn't read the others' comments!
Both 800-930-8574 and 800-830-8574 refer to the federal register. Call them back if they called you, and press 3# when asked for the last 4 digits of your credit card. They do not ask for any information (at all), except to confirm transactions you made, so they seem fairly legit. I asked them who they were, and they said they were from Wells Fargo security services. Also happened to me a few days after using paypal.
Claimed to be PayPal card services. I called the number , it asked for the phone number that them message was left at and the last four numbers of my debit card. It then asked me to verify the last 5 transactions on my card by pressing "one" if it was legitimate or "two" if not.
NO PROBLEM -
CONFIRMED WITH MY CC.
(800) 830-8574
No Caller ID.
No answer on "hello?"
Terse respones to "who are you" upon call back.
AND as per
Mike W. 2006-12-03
I pressed #3 (card not present) so that I didn't need to enter my card number. The support person didn't ask for it since I called from the billing phone number.
As Per
Richard F 2007-01-24
The caller wanted me to verify/ confirm several recent transactions on my VISA card (issued by World's Foremost Bank, Omaha, Nebraska). The caller had an accurate recent list of transactions that I had used the card for. All I was asked was to say that I did (or did not) take responsibility for each transaction listed. I would rate this call as NOT AT ALL SUSPICIOUS.
Received an automated call this morning stating that they were from First Citizens Bank regarding charges made to my VISA card. I called First Citizens and was transferred to their credit card division. The number is NOT a valid number for them.
This was a legit call from Paypal verifying charges. Press option 3 if you do not wish to type in your card number. The agent was able to verify who they were and told me my transactions. No personal info was exchanged other than that.
This is a legitimate call. I called wells fargo (the number on the back of my card) and the representative told me that it is a wells fargo phone number. I told her that was a very suspicious way to get that information and she said she understands and she doesn't know why they continue to use the automated service like that, as most people just turn around and call wells fargo to see whats up anyways. But she said it is legitimate and in the future it is totally safe to respond to this phone number.
BEWARE! This is a scam. I calld back the number and I asked her questions about things she couldnt answer and her voice started getting shaky.
Then I called Wells Fargo from MY phone book and asked about all this. They verified that the number was in their system as one of the Card Services. then FURTHER talking with him, I noticed that he did not say the exact number that I did, it was off by one.
The correct Card service Number for Wells Fargo is 800-930-8574 NOT 800-830-8574!!!!
this scammming company has picked up a phone number that is just one off from the original.
BEWARE...Total Identity theft.
If in doubt...call your card company from the number on back of the card directly!.
I've been getting one call a day from this number for the last four or five days, until today (a Sunday), when I recieved one around lunch time and the latest at 8:08 PM.
I never answer anything I don't know or has no caller ID, and checked the number online, I first read about a fake Paypal scam and then found this site.
I do have Paypal (no Wells Fargo though) and have been called by security before for card verification charges and I think it does say Paypal on caller ID but if not then they will leave a message (which these people did not).
I received a call from this number at 2:20 P.M. today, January 26. I searched for it online and found this website. I did not answer the call, and there was no message left. I do not have a Wells Fargo account, and I have not used my PayPal account in quite some time...
autodialers should be illegal in this country
The caller wanted me to verify/ confirm several recent transactions on my VISA card (issued by World's Foremost Bank, Omaha, Nebraska). The caller had an accurate recent list of transactions that I had used the card for. All I was asked was to say that I did (or did not) take responsibility for each transaction listed. I would rate this call as NOT AT ALL SUSPICIOUS.
I got a call from this number this morning (Sat 10.44am) and reading comments here makes me think it is to verify the purchase of 2 tickets to Italy on my WF credit card via Orbitz... I also make purchases via Paypal on eBay but the last major transaction were the tickets.
called 3 times over the course of the day. I don't have wells fargo, PNC, or Pay pal. Didn't answer the call, but the 800 # came up on the screen
Call to verify debit card charges
Phone rang, I answered. Just got silence and hung up. I called back and went through the drill of verifying my Wells Fargo Visa transactions for them. This seems to happen to me every month or so. I travel a lot and buy a lot of stuff on the internet. I know they are being careful, but the calls always come at inconvenient times, take too long to verify, and the dead silence when their outbound calling center computer can't find a rep to connect me is irritating. I wish they would find an emai/web based way to do their verifications so I could do this at my convenience, not theirs.
Call from PNC to verify check card usage. I checked with PNC Bank to make sure.
This was a legitimate call. I was suspicious of it at first since they requested I call back at a number I did not recognize as PNC. However I dialed PNC directly and they confirmed it was a legitimate call and put me through to Check Card Security. I verified the charges and they lifted the temporary hold on my account (that I did not know about). I was not asked to provide any credit card/check card info.
Card Services on behalf of Wells Fargo. Legitimate call to verify an unusual credit card charge, as others have described here.
i didn't answer the phone, but they left an automated message asking my husband to call back to verify transactions with our PNC Bank Account. I found that odd as PNC normally wouldn't leave a message like that.
Called me 3 times today only once was there someone on the other end. claimed to be First Citizens bank.
called 9:05 am PST on New Year's Day (!) while I was in a spinning class, but left no message.
when i answered the phone there was no one on the other end. i do not have caller id, so i did *69 to retrieve the number.
PayPal Card Security
Received call from this number at 8:50am indicating "toll free call". Answered, no immediate response, so I hung up. They haven't called back. I would not have answered questions about my credit cards anyway.
I've received two calls from this number today. I'm inclined to believe it has something to do with my Wells Fargo credit card account, due to a transaction that failed earlier today, but when I answered the phone I got nothing but silence -- both times. The second time, I counted to twenty before I hung up. If this is a legitimate service call, they might want to look into why their equipment isn't picking up in a reasonable amount of time.
I got a call from this # Christmas eve...It was a real person on the line and asked about the last two charges on my PayPal debit card...It sounded legit so I confirmed the charges were correct and the caller said "Thank you" and hung up...I called the number back and a recorded answer said "Credit Card Security Services, please enter your credit card #" ... I emailed PayPal about it and just got an automated response saying PayPal did not generate the call.
This was a computerized call from PayPal Security. I was to return the call to verify credit card activity. I contacted. PayPay by phone. They said this was not from them or done on their behalf and would investigate.
nothing big really happened, but when I picked up the phone, I didn't hear anything. It was all dead silence and no one talked. Then I tried calling back and they said that my call could not be completed as dialed. That's retarded!
I received a call from this number today and called back. They asked me to verify my transactions on my credit union card. The company, FBR First Data Resources, is contracted by banks etc to call on such accounts. This number is valid.
I received a call from this number today. When I picked up and said hello, no one responded. That always irritates me....
Similar to other comments, this was related to my Wells Fargo credit card. I had also made a PayPal payment with the card recently. I pressed #3 to avoid entering the card number and verified the charges with an agent.
This number left a computer generated message which knew my name and my credit union and asked about transactions on my credit card. When I called back it asked for my card number which I did not give.
When I called my credit union they said that was NOT a number affiliated with them and that they do not ever ask for such details.
This IS a legitmate call from PayPal. I am VERY careful about these things. They don't ask you for anything other than the last 4 digits and then they confirm your info and charges you have made. If you don't take the call it might slow up the process of approving transactions you made, but I don't know. All the charges they listed were charges I did make, so I gave them the OK. Merry Christmas!!!
I called my bank and verified this is a bank service. good number!
Fake call acting as PayPal Security. Do not give these people any information, instead call Paypal & report the call so they can compile the evidence for the authorities.
This caller has called me 18 times in the last three days. When I picked it up, no one would respond to my "hello."
sorry, forgot date, time, etc. "Unavailable," at 11:00 a.m. on 12/14/06
I was also told, via voicemail, that this was PayPal security calling. I hung up, did not provide any information, and called PayPal. They did not make the call, this is a scam.
Got a call today. No message left. I don't have a wells fargo account and nothing was done with paypal so not sure why they were calling me
This was a call from a PayPal security affiliate verifying that the charges made to my ATM card yesterday and today were legitimate. I also pressed #3 (card not present). I did not have to enter my card number. I spoke with a rep who asked about the charges. I verified the locations and the amounts. I definately appreciated the call.
This was a legitimate security call from a Wells Fargo security affiliate. They were checking on some out-of-state charges I made. I pressed #3 (card not present) so that I didn't need to enter my card number. The support person didn't ask for it since I called from the billing phone number. They just described my charges and I verified them.
i was to respond to this numb er with my visa information.
