Who Called Us

I am another recipient of these calls that recently opened a UPS account. Luckily I had the foresight when I opened the account to give them my Google Voice number, so that if I ended up on any sort of marketing/spam list I could easily block as many incoming numbers as I needed to. This number has been accordingly marked as spam and goes directly to voicemail now without me ever having to even hear my phone ring.

Its UPS. Got a call again, they never leave voice mail, After about 1 minute of holding someone started to ask about the UPS account I just opened. Waste of time. UPS please do not waste my time.

I just blacklisted the number, which blocks it and gives them a message that mu number is disconnected. The name on the number shows up as UPS Marketing. I too recently opened a UPS account online.

why the hell does he keep calling and not talk. If this us UPS, please do not waste my time.

This number calls my cell numerous times per day, but does not responed when I answer. Please tell me what it is and how do I stop it.

Same as the comments below. Guy was skilled like a telemarketer, kept talking to keep conversation going. Knew my address, but not my apartment number, and played real like a real representative, ie, asking if I want to be included in e-mail promotions... another big mistake he made, as I had already set up an account on UPS' website already having answered those questions with a click. I also told him that UPS has already sent me a bill and thus ALREADY HAS my apartment number and that I don't believe that he's from UPS, said thank you, and hung up on him... while he was still speed talking telemarketer style.

I called the number back and got the same as everyone below, can't dial in per pre-recorded message.

Surprised I've not seen any ACTION on this since 2006 of the first report, below.

Why do i keep gettng calls from that #? 800-686-2700. I know I signed up for A UPS Account recently so maybe that is why.

I work for UPS and got a call from this number. Answered it "UPS, this is ..." and they hung up.

As if I didn't dislike UPS enough before this... Luckily I won't be using my account number with them much as FedEx makes my life easier.

With all these people below reporting as UPS calling and having set up a new account....would suspect an insider at UPS with access to new account names and numbers is selling to scammers for them to try to pry more information which can be used to utilize credit card or other information to make money in some way???? I did not answer and checked online first as I trust no-one who does not allow caller ID the company name and does not leave a message with a contact name & number.

Why don't they identify themselves ... The caller id says: Unknown 800-686-2700. I don't pick up "unknown" calls

It was UPS calling to ask follow up questions after opening an account. The number is probably tied to a call center, supplying "agents" for multiple companies, where the 800 number on the caller ID is a trunk number and not specifically tied to a business name.

This means, that this number may show up for any number of businesses served by this particular call center.

this is NOT UPS. I alerted UPS to this and their response follows:

"Thank you for forwarding this information to us. The phone call you received is not a legitimate UPS communication. We are aware that individuals may inappropriately use the UPS name or its services to perpetuate fraudulent activities. Please be aware the actual phone number can be masked or spoofed on caller ID and appear to be a legitimate UPS phone number when it is not.

We appreciate you alerting us to this latest incident. "

Hmm, reported here I also see the names of different debt collectors and political callers, quite a variety of opinions on caller identity. It may be a legit UPS number being spoofed in parallel by less honest types. The Truth In Caller ID Act was finally signed by the Prez six weeks ago, one can hope that will lift some fog.

call claimed to be from UPS, calling regarding new accounts, and how the service was going. they knew the address, didn't give them a chance to go any further. if it is UPS its a lousy way of doing business. i think i'll cancel the damn account.

Got call first time today. I registered account at UPS.com last week. I kept on hold and line disconnected after 1 minute as i was on other call.

Calls repeatedly. No message. I recently registered for a UPS account.

Its UPS. they will only call you if you actually request a UPS account number (6 digit), NOT a userid.

They will call you 3-4 times a day, usually 10:30,12:30,1:30,2:30 and 3:30. I had the misfortune of signing up 2 times with 2 numbers (google voice number).. annoying.

Calling the number back, says the number is disconnected. This I think should be a violation of FCC rules, seriously. Calling people from a number, that they cannot call back. Ignorant.

Though they have called a gazillion times, i have actually yet to hear a voice :(

A man called my parents and would not tell them why, just left a number for me to call. When I called the number I was hung up on twice without even speaking to a real person. When I actually got a real person, ROY, he was extremely rude, wanted my SS number and pretty much told me if I did not settle a 5 yr old debt with Verizon that he would ruin my credit. I do not have a debt with Verizon. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE AND PLEASE DO NOT EVER GIVE OUT YOUR SS#.

Recorded message was something about paying off debts (not a collection agency, though).

2 calls from 800-686-2700. When I tried to call the number I received a recording saying the number has been disconnected.

Got called today. Picked up but no answer then call disconnected.
Perhaps it's UPS as many of you already mentioned since I just open UPS account and had some problem with my last week shipping.

I've had two calls from this number within an hour (on a Saturday afternoon). I have no account with UPS and have no idea
why they'd keep calling. Whatever happened to the DO NOT CALL LIST? Doesn't seem to work too well.

I got a call from Eric saying he was with UPS. It's simply a follow up call to verify info and checking to see how the service is working. The gentleman I spoke to was very helpful,polite and didn't waste my time at all he made the call fast and painless! Why some of you that did answer and got a dead signal IDK why. But I was happy to get a follow up call.

This seems to be valid, for me anyway. It turned out to be a collection service for XM Sat Radio. I canceled my subscription a year ago, now they are trying to say I owe them $25.00, this number is attempting to collect it.

This can't be a scam, because I just recently signed up for a UPS account too. As others have said, this is obviously related to UPS.

they say they are from ups but this is a scam do not give info to them. I called ups and they said they do not call to confirm address after signing up for a ups account.....

I have my fax machine on and ready to answer any calls from toll free numbers -- that usually stops them after the first or second call. Same for this number...

I did sign up for a UPS account for my biz last week so it looks like this must be them calling. No message left.

I recently opened UPS Acct. When you get a call that is dead air it is an auto dialer doing the work. The auto dialer dials a bunch of numbers and then when you answer it gives the call to the first available telemarketer. If non are available then you get dead air or if you wait - it may get picked up. I never wait but it helps to know that it is an auto dialer - ie. sales call and I just hang up.

call them and complain. Ask to speak with someone and do not let them transfer you. Tell them you want no more calls. If we flood the corp office maybe the calls will stop.

I signed up for UPS one week ago. Could be them? They did not leave a message. I have got lots of strange calls this week that I usually dont get, then must have sold my number to a call list.

If you call the # back you'll find out that it is from UPS Marketing. They make 3 attempts to contact you. I don't know why they didn't answer me when I said hello.. hello.. They've called me 3x already and I called them 1x to see who they are.

i recieved the number 018899876 0n my cell phone. tried to call it back, but, it said you have dialed a incorrect no. any body have any ideas as to what this is?

Call came in at 9:18 am and showed Unavailable and this 800 number.... I did not pick it up and when the answering machine answered, the party did not leave a message and just hung up..... so I don't know who was calling other than the number..... it is possible to be UPS marketing as I signed up with them two weeks ago.....

Received a call from this number at 7:04am today. Searched Google and found this website. We just started a UPS account less than 2 weeks ago.

Same here...dead air when I answer. Number is on caller ID but identifying is "Tollfree Number".

UPS has lost my company's business for sure...and we ship A LOT.

This number called my phone and then promptly hung up as soon as I answered. Nothing pisses me off like that!!

Got a call from this #. I didn't sign up for UPS, nor have I ever dealt with UPS.

I got called 4 times today by this number. They didn't leave a message so I guess it wasn't important. And of course this started after I signed up for an account at UPS.com Kind of annoying.

I just got a call from them picked up and immeediatly hung up i closed my account and am wondering if they'll call again.

The call came exactly one week after signing up for UPS. One week to the minute(I checked the email I got from them when I signed up). I don't think they ever intended on a person making that call. Let it go to voice mail, and someone left a message saying "hope you have three flat tires when you wake up in the morning". Weird.

Caller said he was from UPS "and just want to ask some questions about our shipping preferences". Told him I had no way of knowing who he was and will not answer any questions -- he was then in a big hurry to hang up. I do not know if it is really an UPS associate but it would not surprise me, UPS has become a pain for many reasons -- we have had an account with them for more than 40 years but are about to close it.

Called twice in 2 hours. Did not answer either call and will not after reading these comments. I also just opened a UPS account the other day.

Called UPS Customer Service (800.742.5877 - request "agent") and asked to be placed on "Do Not Call" list. They transferred me to UPS marketing folks and they promised no more calls from marketing. Time will tell...

It just comes up on Caller ID as "Toll Free Call." I haven't picked up yet, and don't think I will now that I've read the comments here. But they've called a few times every day for the past 3 or 4 days. Extremely annoying!!

Called me 2 times this morning. I recently signed up for a UPS account so apprently that is why they are calling. I didn't pick up either time because I rarely pick up #'s I dont recognize, especially 800 numbers. They didn't leave a message either time...very annoying.

UPS Marketing, recently signed up for account, they were following up to collect marketing info. Was a lag between answering and human response, but they eventually did come on. Not trying to sell anything...

I get daily calls (3-4 times) a day from this number. UPS first claims they are sorry, then they claim not to have anything to do with it. Too bad they'll be loosing our company business!

This number is NOT affiliated with UPS. It's some sort of scam. I would NOT call them back.

This is UPS Marketing, affiliated with United Parcel Service (UPS); if you've registered with UPS or are a regular UPS customer, you're added to their marketing contact list. Call the number and you'll get a message indicdating that if they fail to contact you, they make a total of three (3) attempts, explaining why some are mentioning multiple callbacks in a short time period.
