I called back the number just to find out who it was ...... it was Reader's Digest.

2009-06-03 19:19:13 UTCpetmommy

I am very familiar and knowledgable in Federal Consumer Protection laws, including Collection Agencies, and Credit cards. I have spent many hours reading these laws, and even have them printed out and in a special binding for ongoing reference as needed.

I have also fought 2 lawsuits against Credit Card companies on my own without an Attorney representing us. The Credit Card company did hire an Attorney in my own state to sue us. Only an Attorney in your resident State can sue you! An Attorney in a non resident state cannot file a lawsuit against you, and is no different than a Collection Agency. Yes you do have rights, and no you don't have to pay them IF you know your rights.

I have also stopped a lawsuit against my daughter involving a Collection Agency. Collection agencies are 3rd party debt collectors. Key word, 3rd party!!! Your bill was with a creditor, not collection agency. You have no agreement/contract with Collection Agency unless you create one, by agreeing to payments with them. Do not make that mistake, please!!!

According to the fCC, if you've done any business with Readers Digest in the past 18 mo., it is NOT a violation for them to call you for subscriptions or ????? If you want to cancel a subscription, go to readersdigest.com and do it online. You may be able to get them to quit calling you by requesting on their website also; don't know for sure but worth checking into.

These calls occur more than twice a day now--it is an automated dial system, so it will just continually go through the long list of phone numbers to call until someone picks up apparently. Soliciting renewal of the Reader's Digest. These people just don't understnad that we no longer wish to receive the magazine...but more importantly, do not want these annoying calls!!

2009-04-15 17:15:41 UTCwrs

Called. No message

2009-02-28 21:27:57 UTCLinda Johnson

Calls sometimes twice a day, no message left.

2009-02-01 01:07:21 UTCHeather

This number calls us at least once a day. They will not speak to me or my mother. They only if my dad is home (he never is at the time they call) and when we say no and ask what they need they won't tell us. They just hang up. It's getting incredibly aggravating.

2009-01-11 19:44:20 UTCMoe

This is from Readers Digest. They sent me a bill for $77. I never even ordered their
magazine. Never read it, never will. They must be desperate to send out bills to people
who didn't even order their magazine. I believe this is some type of scam. If I can get
a number, I'd like to report them

2009-01-02 14:51:39 UTCj

keeps calling, I don't answer and it comes up not available

2008-11-21 15:42:02 UTCJim

I hit *67 then 8006508806 and did confirm that this is truly Reader's Digest. I made them confirm their mailing address and a name I received on an e-mail.

800-310-9804 calls and never leaves a message. I am on DNC List but it does no good. I called the number back and got Readers Digest Telemarketing. Had them take our name from their call list. Hope this works, getting PO'd with all the callings that we get all day long. Looks to be they use many different numbers. The latest one after this one was 800-310-9804

2008-07-28 13:55:40 UTCParsuzi

Asked for my husband and refused to leave message. I called the number and heard a message that it was "reader's digest". We do subscribe, so maybe they wanted to ask him to renew? Wonder if they can call us even though we're on the Do Not Call list because we are customers? Probably. They keep calling during the day when he's not home and refusing to leave a message.

2007-11-27 22:11:08 UTCKY

I also am on the DO NOT CALL list, but when i tried calling the 800-650-8806 number back the recording said "call cannot be completed; must dial 1-0 and then the number!!! THAT'S AN INTERNATIONAL CALL, IF I'M NOT MISTAKING? What the heck is going on for our United States?

2007-11-16 17:00:15 UTCDon

phone rang three times, before we could pick it up or the answering machine could pick it up they hung up! VERY ANNOYING!!!

2007-11-15 13:26:23 UTCNancy Brasel

I want to discontinue Reader
s Digest books.

2007-11-09 17:16:17 UTCJack

they called this morning, but Grand Central blocked them, haha

2007-10-19 11:44:18 UTCDotty Smythe

Stop Call me also, if I wanted to renew or get Readers Digest I would call you. This is one of the reasons I quit getting this magazine because you harrass daily with mail or phone calls.

2007-09-11 00:43:26 UTCjw

I received a call from someone who said they were calling themselves Credit card services and this was my final notification to renegotiate? I have no clue as to who these people are. There was no name and no number showing on my phone. Does anyone have a clue?

2007-07-28 19:13:07 UTCJW

called ; left no message;what do they want?

2007-06-12 22:38:52 UTCPA

I DO NOT ANSWER UNKNOWN NAME AND 1800 NUMBERS

2007-05-30 17:00:09 UTCJohn6491202

I guess I will have to cancel my subscription to the Readers Digest if this is who other reports say it is. They left no message, just a dial tone recorded on the answer machine.

2007-05-29 17:04:28 UTCvh

Readers Digest uh. did not know this.no more subsciptions from them.thank you.

2007-01-24 16:08:30 UTCjdj

I am on the national do not registry, and get a daily, sometimes twice, call from the number. They never leave a message, and I do not return ANY call from a number I do not recognize, and especially from one that does not leave a message.

2007-01-18 09:36:41 UTCW

They have been calling every days for weeks. Nobody is ever on the other end.

2007-01-17 16:47:39 UTCL

What will it take to get them to stop calling me. I've complained before AND I am on the Do not call registry!

2007-01-06 11:54:34 UTCBill

We answered and told Readers Digest that we did not want to continue our subscription but they continue to call anyway. I lodged a complaint with the do not call registry.

2007-01-03 14:55:21 UTCKris

No-one there when I answered

2007-01-02 08:50:13 UTClisa

They have been calling for weeks, even though I'm on the do not call list. I've never bought anything over the phone, nor have I responded to surveys.

2006-12-31 14:33:42 UTCCG

Not Sure did not answer

2006-11-29 10:39:30 UTCFed Up

Theses people are calling three time a day.

2006-11-18 12:19:30 UTCJoy

2006-11-18 08:20:13 UTCSM

Yup, Readers Digest

2006-11-01 17:08:52 UTCM

They call just enough to bother you. They don't even wait for the machine. Waaah! Please leave a message unknown caller! ;)

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
