Code Red caller ID shows up as "unknown". How many calls from unidentified callers do you answer in the middle of the night. Anyone that does not answer these unidentified callers will not get the warning message. A simple and responsible and professional solution for Code Red to be effective is to provide a caller ID that is meaningful such as "WEATHER WARNING".
I also have the problem that your 800# is being hijacked by a scam operation in California. The call I got on my land line 830-755-9163 at 12:53 AM on May 2nd showed a calling number of 760-705-8888, not your 800#. I know this because I also got the weather call on my cell phone at the same time from the 800#. I have had this same hijack experience from a home alarm company in the past with no caller ID. That company subsequently corrected the problem with proper caller ID. To be effective, please correct the problem.

I am so glad we signed up for Code Red Alerts. We had bought one of those Midland Weather radios and sometimes it works, sometimes not. If it weren't for Code Red, there would have been several warnings we would NOT have received. Am so glad our city offered Code Red Alerts.

This is an automated Code Red recorded message. You had to have had or someone put your phone number into the system to be recieving this message. If you are recieving these messages and did not signup for the service, you can simply unregister your number from the system. It is a real helpful system if you ask me. I got one last night to tell me of severe weather in my area and a tornado at 2 am. Ran into my shelter. Think of the other options.......

Awesome weather warning service! What a great idea! Definitely scares you though when the phone rings so early in the morning! But I guess mission accomplished!

Received this message from my local weather station. Made sure to save the number for my caller ID so I'll know it in the future.

I receieved a severe weather warning from this phone number. This is a service our city bought for residents to sign up to receieved weather warnings to their home phones and cell phones. It worked great - I received the call and 15 minutes later a really nasty stormed rolled through my area taking out the power lines and dumping hail everywhere.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker or something like Nomorobo.
