Repeat caller - very annoying

i get this number and many others calling every day - sometimes several times in a day. I never answer my phone anymore and i keep my internet connected so it will record incoming calls but not allow them to leave a message on my machine.
to those of you who think you're getting your number taken off their calling list after you go through all the bullcrap to find out how - i've got a bridge to sell you!
they do NOT remove your number, and as far as i'm concerned any dialog with them whatsoever just encourages them to continue to harrass you.
most of these offending numbers originate from the USA and being a Canadian there is nothing much that can be done to stop them from illegally using automatic dialers (which is not legal here in this country)

This number has called my home up to 3 times a day every day including weekends for the last 2-3 weeks - always when at work or out. Today I caught the call just as answer phone kicked in. Capital One sales call - surprise surprise. Requested a do not call, and it's one tape! Fantastic. Cant wait for them to call again now I have the evidence to back up a nice legal claim.

Ive been getting these calls, for over 4 months gets annoying when you answer and nobody talks, Simply hangs up, Why bother Marketing if your not going to sell me on it...:)

I am tired of 1-800 unknown callers - getting to the point where i don't pick up the phone. A few days ago,I even had one from 1-000-000-000.

I finally answered because I am sick and tired of the phone calls everyday!! She said she is calleng from Capital One and asked for me using our last name; before she could even finish I just said "thank you but I'm not interested" and hung up, this better stop the calls or I will not be as polite next time.

Get this number calling anywhere from 8am to 10 pm , 1 to 5 times a week and it's been happening for a good 7 months or so. never answer the phone and it never leaves a message! i figure if it's important they'll leave a message! lol

1800 lines should not be licensed to companies using them for comercial purposes, simple right?.

They call daily...and when I asked them who it was they said it was a Capital One courtesy call. I don't even have a Capital One card.

Call 1-800-201-1085 and ask to speak with the compliance manager. tell him what is going on

Twice today no answer/message

THIS NUMBER CALLS NEARLY EVERY DAY. I CALLER ID AND IGNORE. TODAY I ANSWERED - MAYBE NOW IT WILL STOP, THERE WAS NO ONE THERE,ONLY CLICKING.

First time got this call, today at 10.54am. No messages on my answering service. Thats a relief. Thats great! if they speak Chinese!

They keep calling but never leave a message. When you call the # back it is always Busy. They are a Pain in the ---.

Male voice, probably east Indian, to day at 1500 approx. Have received several calls from this number, person does not identify themselves or whom they represent. They demand to talk to my wife under her previous name and tell me that she has to talk to them as the phone is registered in her name. I tell them no one of that name lives here. I told the man to-day that if we receive any more calls we will turn the number over to the RCMP.

This number had been calling me for about two weeks, but I was never home to answer. Today I answered. I had to yell "Hello!" into the phone to get them to start speaking, as I often do when telemarketers call. He wanted me to sign up for a Capitol One credit card. No dice. I find these kinds of numbers often seem like no one is on the other end, but once I yell, they start talking. Once I turn down the offer, they stop calling.

I use Bell Canada Call screen service because of the all the unsolicited calls, unfortunately this number cannot be screened using the Bell service.

The company that's calling is called ICT Group. If you call the number back they give you an option to have your number removed from the calling list. I have no idea if it works, but it's worth a try :) I did it today, we'll see what happens.

Get ongoing calls from this number day & night repeatedly. Number displays as unknown name and never leaves a message. Haven't tried yet, but am told if you just pickup & hang up it tricks their computer tracking to believe the call has been successfuly placed and they move on?

They just called and I was sure to say HELLO in a loud and clear voice this time. A woman came on the line asking to speak to a M. Johnston (not me or anyone else in the house) on behalf of Capital One. I told her to standby a minute. I put the phone on hold and they hung up a few minutes later. Next time, I'm going to make like I'm the person they want to speak with and string them along for as long as I can. May as well make a game out of it!

Called today 'unknown name'. When I answered, it was Capital One trying to sign me up for their "low interest" credit card. Told me that I could switch all my credit card balances to it today if I verified some information. I told her a couple of times I wasn't interested and finally she got the hint and thanked me for my time. In the past, I have answered the phone and not said anything. There usually is a long pause and when the person on the other end doesn't hear a 'hello', they'll click on and start saying hello. I usually just put the phone down and walk away that way it's their dime they are wasting. Another thing I've done is just answer and immediately hang up. Sometimes that stops them from calling again.

Called back and had my number added to the do not call list. We'll see what happens....

I keep getting calls 2 to 3 times a day by this number.they r not even looking for me they r looking for the people who had my number last..I even called to tell them not to call they don't live here and they continue to call everyday 2 to 3 times..I want it to stop

Get daily calls sometimes 3 or 4 times daily, tired of answering .. u get a machine the u have to hold for a live person to speak to u.. waited minute or so and hung up... dont know who or why they are calling but I no longer answer or I answer and hang up

How to opt out?


1. Be absolutely friendly, no chip, no anger--and smile (it comes across on the phone)

2. Call 800-201-1085

3. Listen to all the messages and then press zero.

4. Ask nicely to speak to the compliance manager so you can opt out of their calling system. A little politeness goes a long way. Every day, people call them and give them a lot of grief and anger. Be different, putting them in the mood to help you opt out.

5. Politely tell the compliance manager that you would like to opt out of recieving telephone calls from their group of companies. U.S. regulation covering opting out are very good on this.

6. Tell them the number(s) you would like to be put on their no-call list.

7. Chat with them while they go on-line and permanently block you out of their calling system.

8. Be patient. it takes about 24 hours to clear your name out of the system

they call my business line every day. I finally called it back and waded thru their menu to add my numbers to their do-not-call list. be patient, call the number back and add your number to their do not call list.

i seen Brad message and i had once answered a phone call. this is a weird phone call. i picked it up. if u dont say anything there will be a machine that keep sayin hello to u. if u do say something its silence. is it a prank phone call? had these for a few months and then i never got one again...weird.

I'm in Canada and they keep calling my business line. No one is there. Why phone if you can't talk? Companies should not be able to use machines to call phone numbers.

also let your compter pick it up as a fax. it will remove it from there list

I have a method where I try to tie up their line either by not hanging up or dialling back and leaving the phone on the counter for awhile. Maybe if more people tied their lines up that way, they might delete "our" offending numbers!

These clowns call all the time. I always press "speaker" and wait, sometimes up to 30 seconds, then somebody comes on the phone. I listen to them but say nothing and laugh. What a waste of resources!

I must get calls from this number at least twice daily. I have calle ID, so I ignore it entirely and just let it ring on. This has been going on for many many days not and is totally annoying. They vary the times they call throughout the day as well, calling as early as 8 am right into the evening. Once I picked up and there was no one on the line to answer, so I hung up.

Just got his one - Dec 7 11:57 EST. From MasterCard. In addition: I've noticed something interesting about telemarketing calls. It seems when I answer, " speaking," there is often no answer on the other end. But if I say simply, "hello", the computer responds and clicks through to an operator. Anyone else try/notice this??? Does the computer actually respond to "hello?"

I've been avoiding the phone since we moved here because of all the spam calling we've been getting, and since we got Caller ID last week I've been keeping track of some of the calls, and this number has called me at least once every day since Sunday. I haven't picked it up though, and no one has left a message.

Had them call me today but I never answered...especially right now since I'm not home, and it was on my cell phone...I'm not paying time for them!
