The acronym is for Nations Recovery Centers, which to my understanding does not share ownership or accounts with Portfolio Recovery as one list view entry above might suggest.

They left a Voice saying call 800-427-5933, or visit payNRC.com, then gave Reference Number. Did not say who they were trying to contact.

Assuming you can verify these are collection calls, send a cease-comm via USPS Certified with card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one. Also the FDCPA bars calls to mobile phones and workplaces once the collector is notified.

The DNC registry is for telemarketers, meaning sales, meaning all debt collectors are exempt. This fact was not kept secret from you when you registered your numbers. Learn your rights at FTC-dot-gov.

This is the 7th call within weeks. I ignore it and it goes into voicemail as a recorded message that does not start correctly at the beginning about a "recovery company attempting to collect a debt." HOWEVER, my Blackberry phone is work-issued and we do not have a debt for this line. It is either a scam or a collection agency trying to collect on someone previous who had my mobile phone number. Either way, it is annoying to receive interrupting calls when my number is on the DO NOT CALL list. BEWARE OF THIS NUMBER 800-427-5933

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
