unsolicited call asking for money to send care pkg to o-seas troops. polite and business-like, but can't tell if it is a scam or not. They will send donation card. I will research before deciding if I send money.
Got a call, the guy used my first name, I thought maybe it was somebody I knew. He started telling me about collecting money for Naval vets. Since I have family in the Navy I heard him out. When he asked what amount he could put me down for. I said, "I don't understand what the money is going to yet," He hung up.
Odd, to say the least. Seems like a scam or at least predatory - looking for people who just give and don't ask questions. Probably preying on the elderly.
I have this number blocked. I have call screening. I am currently listed with the National "Do Not Call" Registry. The call from this number still came through AGAIN late Sunday night. These scammers should die a much worse death than cancer. A reward should be put out for them so we could hunt them. There's a job creation idea for Obama. These scammers steal from the elderly or anyone they can get to believe their lies. No different than using a gun to steal. Lock them up, fines aren't working. The fines are a joke. Just a fraction on the millions they're stealing. They'll never stop. JAIL
Another thing....these people get battered on the phone about 8 hours a day....and some people crack and curse at you DUMBASSES...and in which they are AUTOMATICALLY terminated ....
Its never the same person calling =/ you calling the person that called you stupid...like I said its a computer not a actuall person calling u. So your pathetic getting mad thinking the same person keeps calling u over and over.
You getting mad and taking it out on whoever doesn't make life better and there's someppl that don't even receive calls and you act like a phone call is SO HORRIBLE....just don't answer the damn phone... after so many times of the number going to the answering machine...the number is automatically removed....
And another thing... don't say u wanna donate... that's it... cause ur gonna get a mailing at 5 weeks....at 7 weeks....and at 11weeks...until its received.... They call to see if ur still going to mail it in .....
And its going to stop after 11 weeks....
But before then... they r going to call till you either say no...lie...or some dumbass bullshit...
So my advise... is just don't agree to donate in the fuckin first place if u know ur not gonna fuckin mail in ur pledge....
Point blank....of course u say no... 9 times out of 10 ur going to get A Rebuttel...just say no again....end of call....or say don't call me...
And yes....its a 80%....20% split..... which actualy is double the national standard for fundraisers...
No donation is 100%.... if u call Susan G coleman ...to donate from a commercial u saw on tv...there's a fundraising cost for that commercial...
Some charities do mass mailings and HOPE u mail it back ...it cost a lot to do mass mailings and takes away for the ones that don't get returned.....in which if u actually DO mail it back.....part of urs goes to fundraising costs for them doing a mass mailing....
Your never donating 100% to a charity....
So shut up
im comenting as a an associate of ACS...and I'm using my phone so ...its a lot of internet lingo for u ppl who are too stupid to realize...
Most of you people are quite STUPID.
First off...No...they are not listed at the BBB because you have to PAY a very big fee to even be listed with the BBB. So you can't call them...you can't report them...cause the BBB can't do shit about it! So stfu complaining about the BBB. And there are a LOT of charities that AREN'T listed with the BBB.
Secondly...its a automated dialer.... the computer dials ur number... The people don't wanna keep calling u and deal with ur dumbass attitude about the situation. The associates call and mark what time would be best to call back....If there's not enough people...or anyone else to call...then they call you back.... the actual associates don't wanna keep calling you and hearing your lip or your attitude.... Its not illegal ... its just annoying...
Lastly ....CHARITIES are not required to go by the do not call list... so you saying ur listed doesn't mean didly squat ...
All you have to say is please do not call me anymore....
Saying anything other than "do not call me" .... means that u won't get taken off the list.
Getting rude....cursing the people out is USELESS and just pathetic. We don't wanna fuckin call you dumb fucks over and over anyways =/
Next... like I said its an automated dialer ... meaning its not a actual live person calling you and your not speaking to a person until it actually connects to the rep. SO ...this means a timed delay sometimes between u saying hello and the rep. Answering you back. They don't leave messages... because you can't call back.
Nationally its LEGAL to call between from 8:30 to 9:00....9:30 is a few. So stfu complaining about the time. Just because it isn't convienant for you at 9am DOESN'T mean that it isn't for the next person. NO ONE is Psychic....so we dunno when the best time is to reach you.
said I'd pledge $20; got the package which shows $40. Pledge now 0.
Representative on the phone was forceful. I agreed to donate money just to shut him up. Since then, I have received four phone calls from them. Two to confirm my donation and two to ensure I got the information and will be sending my pledge. Through investigation, I found that the organization's fundraising practices are under investigation in 31 states. When I went to the website, under their "Do not call" section, there were instructions to remove your name from their phone call list. However, it asked that I include the following threatening caveat in my request: "include the following thought as a courtesy to all REAL Americans: those who denounce, in the name of pubic policy, the First Amendment right of others to free speech, especially those fundraising for the vibrancy of any and all American non-profit causes, need to beware that that same public policy may be turned on them someday to deny them THEIR same freedoms of speech and expression, as they were in Hitler Germany, in Stalinist Russia, and as Al Quaida seeks to do today in Iraq and Afghanistan and throughout the Muslim world." I do not appreciate being threatened for exercising my rights to not be harassed on the phone.
I just got a call from 866-877-2493, the guy was laughing when I answered the phone and took a minute to acknowledge I was on the line. He then introduced himself as a representative of the United States Navy Veterans Assoc. and informed me he was calling to ask for a donation. I told him I was unable to make one and his tone changed instantly. He raised his voice and said "DON'T YOU WANT TO HELP THE VETS THAT DIED FOR YOUR ASS!" qouted exactly as he said it. Now this boiled my blood instantly, and I asked to speak with his supervisor, he said very smugly "I am the supervisor" I told him no he was not and asked to speak to his supervisor again, he then hung up on me.
This is unacceptable to be called by these people and get cussed out when you say you cannot afford to donate. I am calling all the legitimate phone numbers I can until some one can help me find these people and do something about them.
I checked the BBB listing also and it said that information had been provided but there is the report was not ready for posting. I'm going to be sorry that I said I would pledge. Thank God my telephone number will be discontinued in another 2 weeks!
They told me they were sending out care packages to servicemen. I asked what percentage goes to the overhead and how much goes towards the actual benefits (care packages). I was transferred to a supervisor who matter of factly told me that 20% goes to the soldiers and 80% goes to fundraising and administration!!! I was flabbergasted and replied that I would do better finding the name of a serviceman myself, and sending him my own care package - then the soldier would get 100%. I also told them it was an extremely high amount of money for fundraising and he said he understood, thanked me for my time, and respectfully told me goodbye.

I just got off the phone with this USN Veterans Assoc. The guy was not rude, however he did persist in me donating to them. I politely told him no, that I already work for the government, that I am part of three different chapters that already send out care packages to the military, and that I have not heard of this group before. He said "Oh thank you for what you already do, but a donation is still needed" I told him sure, go ahead and mail out the pledge card. I will shred this card (I'm not sending them a dime), and I will be reporting this group to the proper authorities on the matter just to make sure that no one's safety has been compromised. This group has been calling us for months now, they do not leave messages because it is an automated system that calls. Because of the automated system, you will not be able to call them back directly, you will get an answering machine, don't leave your contact information on it, they will not call you back. The National Do Not Call List does not have them listed so they will be able to call through with no problem. Just report them and if they continue to call, answer and actually tell them not to call back. Keep reporting! Oh btw, when they called they asked for someone who didn't even live here, and they even had the wrong address in the system for the phone number.
They call here 2 or 3 times a day. Day and night.
THIS IS A SCAM CALL FOR DONATIONS. DO NOT SEND THEM MONEY.
got a call from unknown name, unknown number - their website navyvets.org seems to be DOA - a first giveaway that they aren't real- or at least not what they say they are. I'm going to take their mailing to the Post Office for possible mail fraud investigation.
After the 4th call I told the idiot who kept phoning that I was a Navy Vet myself and that rather than me donating to them it was about time they sent me some money. The called hung up.
8 calls in an hour and a half time period asking for my wife to thank her for her $100 donation (which she never made nor promised). When pressed for who they were the caller became extremely rude. On the 5th call I told the caller that any further calls would be considered harrassment and I would take the matter further. 10 minutes later the same idiot called again, and again, and again. The matter is now in the hands of my lawyer. What part of NO do these dumb, moronic idiots not understand?
I think what's happening is this: their telemarketers are using a software dialing system, not illegal, which is hanging up as you pick up the phone after a certain amount of seconds of ringing; not a live human being.
Their figures check out with the IRS: over 80% overall go to charity, guidestar.org (including their state cahpters), but one of their telemarketers may be taking more out of that particular call. But you can donate directly to them. They were EXTREMELY nice to me on the phone ( I am not a member) and, as their website, which I found excellent in the amount of information they provide, unlike others, demonstrates, they have received numerous donations from VFW posts, and have provided numerous donations likewise to them.
before you criticize someone, perhaps, as an American with common sense and a common dignity you should express for everybody, you should Read on.
I would not tolerate anyone sending me a pledge slip for a donation no one at my house had made, and that should be reported immediately to the authorities. i get "bills" for magazines I never ordered, and I just rip them up.
I received a call from this # today as well. They were EXREMELY rude and proceeded to tell me that "I" had no clue the sacrifices that the Vet's have made for our country. I went off! I dare them to call here again. I just wanted to tell everyone who looks up and sees this web site. You CAN donate to the Veterans and they DO need donations, but PLEASE donate to your local VFW. Do NOT donate to anyone that calls you on the phone. As other writers have noted, the money does not go to the Veterans, only a small portion if any. The majority of it goes to the jerk on the phone that is trying to guilt you in to donating. If you want to help, get in on the fundraising going on at your local VFW chapter.
I received a call from 888-297-9265 at 8:48 a.m. June 5, 2009. There was no message. I lef the phone off the receiver until the calling party hung-up then did a *57 trace of the call. The caller's number did not show up on my Caller ID, so I then did a *69 identification of the calling number. Afterwards, I called the number and left the recorded message in effect that I was the daughter of... and I left my father's name; said I had been unemplyed for the past 30 years and could not donate; that I had not csolicted a call from them; and if they were not legitimate, the Justice Department would heard from me, and good day!
Got call from a nice young woman claiming to represent the US Navey Veterans Association, she asked for Mr & Mrs... told her I was the Mrs and that I gave to my LOCAL veterans (I am at Camp Lejeune) and hung up. Seven days later I got post card to Mr & Mrs from them, says that on 2.23.09 "we" pledged $25 and they have not received our pledge yet. Please return pledge with post card. Return address is NOT DC, zip mailed from on stamp doesn't match zip for payment address. Called the hubby to ask if he had promised donation, of course he said no as I expected.
HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS
Third time this number calls us asking for my name, which I will NOT confirm. They identify themselves as US NAvy Vets. I instructed them to remove my name from their list, which caller agrees to do, yet they still call. This is ILLEGAL!
Received a call from "Deon" at this number, who denied that he was soliciting, refused to put me on their "do not call" list, and proceeded to argue with me about whether he was soliciting or not. He stated that he was calling me "on behalf of the United States Navy". I hung up.
After the USN Veterans Association called back several times I finally got them to pass me onto one of their financial people. He admitted that they
expend 80% of donations on fund raising efforts and only 20% on actual benefits paid out to actual veterans. No wonder they are so insistent in their
callback campaign to make sure you have sent in your $20 or $50. Decided to send my original pledge straight on to my Navy vet brother.
They called and my wife answered and told them I was not home. They said they would call back. I received a mail package thanking me for pledging $20, which of course I didn't. Tore up the letter. Received another postcard reminding me of my pledge. I will ignore, but will report them to the Better Business Bureau if this continues.
Rang through to answering machine. Let no message.
I don't know the number that called me a wk or so ago. They were VERY nice when I said I gave to military in other ways. I promised a very small pledge they seemed grateful for...so I will pay it this time. However, I will be more carefull in the future and will request to remove my name from their calling list. The ph number on the pledge form (for pledge questions) is: 888.298.2431. I am very interested in helping military and vets so I will do so by participating in their "Send a Note" program.
I let the answering machine do its job....no message was left.
National DNC list is a false sense of security/privacy.
got a call on another number 888 297-9265 from USN Veterans Assoc asking for a pledge for care packages for the troops. I checked out their last IRS filing for the chapter here in CA. $2,000,000 in only 360,000 out. A great big 18%. That's 82% that never gets to the troops 50% or $1,000,000 goes to the damn telemarketers. Scam me thinks so!!!
Maybe the national org does better but I'm not even going to bother looking.
got a call from a young man wanted a donation to send package overseas from 866-401-2547 gavw me this web site when i asked for more info
Someone claiming to be US Navy Vets Assn called me from 248-351-5662 asking for donations and sent me a mail package. They use high pressure tactics to get a "pledge", then make several calls to your phone from a michigan number listed above. The US Navy Vets Assn is headquartered in Washington DC so I assume the above numbered people are scammers. Screw them and let them go down with their boat.
THEY HANG UP ON THE ANSWERING MACHINE
hung up on machine
P.S. Caller ID says: 800 Service
Hit *69, heard it was US Navy Veterans Assn. I listened to recording, left msg to put me on their "DO NOT CALL" list. We'll see if they keep calling anyway.
Wife received call, asked for her by name. Then pause, (Said she heard screaming or arguing in the background) then the caller said they would call back. Caller ID showed unknown Name. Hope they do not call back as we will not answer if they do.
called at 6:01 pm. Thanks to caller ID, I ddint have to answer the phone. I let the answering machine do its job....no message was left.
Their caller-ID name isn't just blocked, it actually sends the string "UNAVAILABLE". That kind of subterfuge warrants a summary disconnection.
Did not leave message on machine. We have been solicited for millitary care packages on a prior call. From other messages, maybe this is the same outfit. Charities should have decency to screen with DNC list because I have elderly mother who could hurt herself trying to get to the phone.
BBB: charityreports.bbb.org
BBB says 76% programs, 24% on admin and marketing. NOT the other way around.
My story is the same as everybody elses. The idiot calls and doesn't say a damned thing. Annoying piece of garbage!
Plan to report to FCC with next call.
US Navy Veterans Association - Charity (excluded from donotcall.gov) Bah! Humbug! Anyhow... NO ONE is ever available to take my call... Gee, I wonder why?
At least the website claims they are part of the government...
navyvets.org
I'm not so sure this is a total scam, but I certainly wouldn't send them money. If they were a scam operation, they wouldn't be so honest about their 80% overhead--meaning they admit that only 20% of monies received actually goes to their stated cause. Said they are contracted to raise funds for navyvets.org, which gives them protection from DoNotCall as a charity. Navyvets.org is also in pretty sad shape, if their web site is any indicator.
I was called today for the first to,e bu this number; I do not answer 800 or Unknown Number calls. They did not leave a message. This was at 10:16 a.m Central TZ
This phone call happened at 1:00am in the morning but went to callwave. How annoying! I guess the do not call list is not working!
called several times, no message
I have caller ID and I'm glad that I do! I don't answer the 800 numbers that come through
anymore. I already have my number on the "no call" list but some filter through.
If they are that important I know they will leave a voice mail.
Thank you whocalled.us for this great site!
I just didn't answer. I like this website. Can't we sue these guys for harrassement or something?
Said Hello several times before caller responded. Caller mumbled her name and the reason for the call. Wouldn't repeat her name or tell me where the "Navy Veterans' Association" is located. I told her I was extremely ill and she had awoken me with the call. She LAUGHED and rudely made fun of my illness.
If this IS for Navy Veterans, how can they pay the people making the calls? Do WE need to donate money to have our lives be interrupted by this crap? Doesn't the government give all sorts of money, free medical, and other cushy benefits to veterans? Why should WE be begged for money, especially to an obvious scam?
No message left on answering machine
just got a call & threatened to report the # to do not call, registry & caller said he was not soliciting, but it was a thank you call from the US Navy vet, & then I cut the caller off.
Person very polite when told I have no money to spare (not that I'd send it anyway). Said calling for US Navy Veteran's Association. Our local veteran's services send packages to the troops on monthly basis. All proceeds go to the care packages. All volunteer "staff" takes care of processing, sorting, sending. That's where I give money for troops.
I don't answer 800#'s. They hung up when answering machine picked up.
Called # back and received message US Navy Veterans Assoc. No one is available to take my call. Seems like time that there was a way to report phone abuse the same way spam email is reported. Needs to be a way to find out what phone company or service provider the call came from.
They have called for several days, no message on answering machine.
asked for a mr haskell. I said there was none here and told them to put me on their do not call list.
Hate it, they call every day for 5 weeks at exactly the same time. I call it back and am told I can not reach this number from my calling area. never gives up please have something done. if i have money to give to anyone it would be a group that i have worked with or my family
Several people got different answers about who this was.
Disabled American Marines wanting money to send care packages to Iraq.
1st time for this number,from a telemarketer
Non-profit fund raisers are exempt from The National Do Not Call List.
Said they were collecting for Navy Vets. I asked them what percentage of donations goes to Vets - apparently only 20%. Needless to say, I told them no.
I got this call and didnt answer the phone. I am sick of 800 numbers wanting donations, They did leave a long message but none of it was in English, maybe it was Indian or Farsi, stop calling, i have just enough money to pay bills, not enough to donate. Folks pressure you to donate, when you say you cant they get pissed off. How rude. No is No so stop calling me
I didn't answer the phone because I am tired of 800 numbers calling me. They left a message, however non of it was in English, and it was very very long. I think it might have been in FARSI. Remove my name and number as i am sick of calls from people wanting donations. I am just able to pay my bills so i don't have money to burn
Asked for Mr"x".
"x" is not our last name.
got an 'ah' when I said they had some bad information.
When I asked who they were she said 'US Navy donations'.
called 9:27 am and they hung up when answered.
Got call from this number and they hung up. Tried calling back to see what they wanted and get busy signal
Got a call from this number today for the first time. I never answer calls that say Unknown Name, and I am on the Do Not Call List. I either let the call go to my answering machine (they never leave a message) or I pick up the receiver after a couple rings and hang it up. Can someome tell me if I pick up the receiver and leave it next to the phone for a while does the company get charged for the call? If so, I will do that all the time. Thanks.
called made it past privacy manager with sbc
cant call block
sbc is worthless when it comes to call blocker!
didnt answer never do
never have answering machine one
do not call isnt activated yet
They called asking me for donations for families of police officers killed in action. I repeatedly told him I couldn't spare any money and he got rude. I eventually had to just hang up.
its not a scam its the government all of you have stumbled apon something they dont wont you to no 911 was a inside job
Called at 9:30 a.m. Hung up when answering machine answered. Be suspect of a single number that has made itself out to be two different things: Cancer Fund of America Processing Center AND the US Navy Veterans Servicee. Sounds like a scam to me. I won't be answering.
I've only received 1 call from this #, but I don't answer calls from 800#s. I didn't call back. The only reason I'm including this# is because it's one strange call I've received among about a dozen strange calls I've received in the past 4 days! While I'm sorry all you others are being irritated like this too, I'm happy this site exists to share info and get this junk stopped!
Got a call from this number where they only asked for the last name, not Mr., Ms. or Miss. When I asked who they wanted to speak to they finally came up with a first name. But when I said they were not home, they hung up. Recalled the number and the recording stated it was the United States Navy Veterans Association. Why do they have who they are blocked on the CallerID?
rang 3 times, no message left on our answering machine, did *69 to see what number called
My call from this number was for US Navy donations. I was quickly hung up on when I stated I was already sending care packages over to my husband and his guys already. Very rude.
They just hung up, after repeatedily saying hello
Hung up on answering machine
Asked for my mother by name then asked for Mr. XXXX (last name ) when told they wern't there said he would call back
I called the number back, got a recording saying that it's the US Navy Vetrans service, but no one is available to take my call.
I just called the number. It's "Cancer Fund of America Processing Center". Apparently run by rude telemarketers. When I ask who they were calling they said "Not You" and hung up. Apparently he couldn't pronounce the name his prompter spat out.
