How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

I have received two calls from this number, from two separate extensions. When I tried to return calls, the extension was either wrong, or there was no response back when I left a message. Glad to know it appears it really IS Microsoft, but I wonder if they know their phone service appears lacking?
I received a call from Travis Cobb from this number, asking about a download of a BPOS trial. Travis was very helpful and got me in touch with a MS partner that was able to help us fix our network issues, glad I took the call, great help!
I've downloaded a few trials and gotten calls from this number. I left a vmail for the last one who called and didn't hear back yet. Doesn't matter as I use voicepulse and block all calls except for the ones I allow through. ( by specific number ). The rest got to vmail/email. :) I just came here to see if I could get the reason for the calls.
got a call from Ryan for windows vista product test a new version of vista or something like that
Hi, this is Adam ****ski, on behalf of Microsoft. I would appreciate a callback at your earliest convenience at 1-800-215-0948, extension 4267. Thank you Tony and I hope you have a great day.
Probably calling about a Visual Studio 2008 Trial download from three(3) weeks earlier.
Voicemail message from Adam (no last name given) on behalf of Microsoft. Return call revealed that Company is Sutherland contracted through Microsoft. Called about an Excange 2007 trial I had downloaded. I told tem I just needed a 32-bit copy because I was doing an Exchange 2007 64-bit install for a client. I was not pressured further.
received 2 calls almost simultaneously from this number claiming to be MS, was at my desk would have answered but saw there were 2 calls same number.called back tried both extensions and in both cases the extensions were on other calls.
Mike Teller left a message with an extention. I called back out of curiosity, and was dumped directly into vmail.
Sub-contracted telemarketer following up on my download of Exchange 2007 trial.
Got a cold call from this number, they left a message identifying as Microsoft but with no business reason for the call.
Called it back out of sheer curiousity, but got an anon vmail on the extension that was left. - 4744
I'm not sure what's going on. I work for Microsoft, and the person who called and left me a message doesn't appear in the Global address list, nor does the number they give. I'm going to follow up tomorrow and find out what's happening.
Mike teller calling on behalf of Mike Soft ? (Microsoft)?
"Hello, [salutation][last name]. My name us Shawn, callling on behalf of Microsoft. I would appreciate
your getting in contact with me at your earliest convenience. I can be reached at [CBN]. Thank you."
MS is known to use telemarketers for pseudo "cold calls" and telephone surveys. If/when you download anything from MS that is a trial, a promotion, a "public beta." The contact information you provide in order to obtain the download is part of your consent to be contacted, by MS, for possible follow-up. Sometimes, but not always, there is a tiny opt-out checkbox, somewhere on the same web form to
stop callbacks.
"Badged and flagged" MS employees almost always announce/leave their full names, unless both parties are
already very well known to one another. Calls and/or v-mail involving official MS business *never* request a callback without also providing the concrete business reason for the call.
MS "surveys" and pseudo "cold-calls," farmed out to *telemarketing outfits* can be less forthright and
forthcoming about the nature of the call. The contractor may earn an additional bounty, depending on
how far along the call-script they can engage you (in a survey or solicitation). It's all piece work.
Looks like Microsoft is punishing us for giving contact information. Its gotta be MARKETING that is so annoying.
