Who Called Us

Lately their automated calling system will ask "is this (name), if it is then hold on the line for the next available agent, if it is not then press 9 and your number will be removed from our call list. So I pressed 9, even though it really was my name. I did some research on them (Merchants) and they are collecting on VERY old debts from ages ago. I remember I have some 19 year old $800 debt with CitiCards. It's already passed the statute of limitations, and it cannot be collected on unless you acknowledge yourself to them, so by all means DO NOT acknowledge yourself to them. Instead press 9 if you get the same option I was given. Let me think, oh yes...I have a $350,000 home, a sports car, an SUV, an investment property rental condo on the coast, a wife and two kids, two masters degrees. Hmmmm sounds like my life is fine, so screw their stupid $800. Ha!!!

They keep calling no one there.

I answered and said who I was. Noone spoke. After a minute of telling my name, they hung up on me.

Report all calls like this to the FTC web site. They do follow up as opposed to the do not call list folks. They are a joke.

Did not answer it. Never will.

They are trying to collect on a Computer City credit account I owed like $300 to over a dozen years ago. Computer City doesn't even exist any more!

Call on my cell phone at 8:45pm; I dont answer calls from numbers I don't know; if they leave a message and want to talk to me I call them back if they give me a reason to; otherwise I have learned that they either have the wrong number or that they have no business calling me!

Automated caller says, "This is a message for [name]. If you are not [name], hang up. If you are [name], stay on the line." Then something to the effect, "By staying on the line you acknowledge you are [name]." Then they say something like "this is an attempt to collect a debt." They did use My neighbors name but that is probably bogus info .I am writing the Illinois Atty. General In Chicago about this as I researched a little and what they do MCG is buy very old debts and attempt to collect on them.

These people buy old uncollectible debt that is past statute of limitations and past being reportable to credit bureaus. They want you to pay a few dollars to reaffirm debt and make it collectible again. Don't talk to them or give them anything. They are working on accounts from BofA and Citibank from the early 90's.

These seem to be the same people who go by merchants credit. When we do pick up they don't answer and the one time they did answer was to ask if there was a so and so with the last 4 digits of a SSN. It was the right name but not the right SSN (and Yeah right like anybody would be dumb enough to verify any personal info to a complete stranger just because they said so!. My husband kept the guy on the phone arguing!

They called with the similar message related below "if you are [insert name here] I held and then they asked is this [INSERT NAME HERE] with the last four of my social and I said what is this with regard too? The woman on the other end was rude and said: "Gotcha, have a nice day." I thought to myself, okay YOU got me, I've lived in my home 20 years....what have YOU got. lmao!!!
I owe no one so I wouldn't fret over it, REPORT 'EM. We'll see if I have similar experiences like listed below. I would love for them to continually call me at 8:30AM; I'll GOTCHA them!!!

I've received calls from this number several times. Since it doesn't look familiar to me, I simply don't answer it.

Calls regulary, nevers leaves msg. I never answer.

dont know who they are. they called my cell phone. no message.

I don't know who they are. I never pick up,but they call all the time.

They called me every day. They switch their calling time every few days. I never answer their calls but they always left messages. How can I stop that??????!!!!!! :-(

what do these people want? no one there.

Who knows who these people are. Received call at 7:40 am central time...on a Saturday, no less. Thought call was an emergency call and no one was on the line.

when answered got an answering machine
