Want them to STOP calling!

So sick of these people, they called all weekend long at all freakin hours!!! I don't owe them anything, not sure how they got my cell # but I downloaded Call Blocker on my Droid... no ring, just gives them silence when they call, they can't even leave a message anymore. Ha!

Collection Agency , Portofolio Recovery, calls every day with diferents numbers......

Calls, Calls, Calls. Not 1 message left. Only phone number is displayed, no name. Collection agency is what it appears to be, but I don't know who their client is.

The comments from "Disgusted" and "E B" show plainly how easily a rogue collector like PRA is willing to lie and obscure the truth to make a commission payday. Collectors are absolutely required to provide proof of claim, and the Federal law that says so has existed for 33 years.

If you are receiving misdirected or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, which regulates bad collector behavior and provides a private right of action. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. You may however soon find that your verbal demands to limit or cease communication, as allowed by the FDCPA, are often ignored. For the umpteenth time, the DNC registry is for telemarketers, meaning sales. Charities, debt collectors, political speech, and surveyors are all exempt as they are not included in the FTC definition of "telemarketing". This was made known to you when you registered your numbers.

On one point, "catsdad" was wrong. A collector if it pleases can make a world of hurt through the court system. The collector counts on you to ignore its calls and mailings, to win an easy judgment. No collection agency will help you exercise your rights. In the early stages, and against a more desperate collector like PRA, defense is not hard for the average consumer.

On a footnote, "JC" is one of many aliases for a chronic spammer, a Ventura law firm too cheap to buy a real ad where it belongs. They've littered this forum for months with misleading sales copy under the guise of debtor advocacy. The quickly lashed-up promo web pages it promotes under varying alias URLs repeatedly direct the visitor to a supposed complaint form, which is really a prelude to a "representation agreement". Sooner or later they hope to charge fees to someone who likely can't afford them.

They want you to think you can't exercise the private right of action the FTC grants without someone in a suit holding your hands, but a smarter debtor knows better. If you challenge a collector's claim you do it yourself and control the process. If you want to complain, you directly send it to the Attorney General and/or the Bar Association in the collector's state and to the FTC. You don't send it to some stranger who wants to calculate your profit return as a client.

Was rude and demanding.. called work number Sunday @630. The person doesn't even work here anymore wanted to talk to the manager behold I was the manager called me a liar.

I have been getting calls from this company for years in search of someone I don't even know! I have blocked their numbers whenever they call, but now my call blocker is full and they have even more numbers than my call blocker can hold! They wont stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't just get pissed, you can get $1,000 for harassing calls originating from a debt collector. Do Not Call list does not apply to collection companies.

Other sites have reported this as Portfolio Recovery Associates, a debt collection company. If you have a collection company harassing you with repeated calls (especially with an automated dialer), failing to identify themselves, or at odd times of the day, etc., they are in violation of the Fair Debt. Collection Practices Act.


It makes no difference if they are dialing your number by mistake or you actually owe money, you can collect up to $1,000 by fed. law plus any actual damage under federal law (the Fair Debt. This group has been calling for months, all days of the week, all hours of the day. Tonight they called on my cell number that I most certainly never gave them. They are looking for my girlfriend yet harassing me on MY home phone and MY Cell now! This MUST stop!

Have received multiple calls from this number but I always miss the call and they never leave messages. Finally spoke with rep today who told me that they were only required by law to send out one letter even though she shows both letters they sent got returned. I told her she had to provide me with proof of the debt and she tried to tell me that was incorrect. I told her I work in medical collections and that she was wrong. She quickly got off the phone and told me she would get something sent out to me.

I get these calls more than 2 times a day at least 5 days a week, seems as though they like to try to get money from accounts that were dissolved thru bankruptcy, this was over 12 years ago that I went thru all of that. I will not answer & have blocked the number.

I truly believe everyone should be given from their own medicine. These guys call me thousands of times and they annoy me, I never answer of course but it's hearing that ring and seeing this number that's killing the joy and the peace; I think we should scare the SH_T out of them and call them once a week with a "SCARE TACTIC" to force them to evacuate their premises and lose an entire day of conducting business.

Also at times, the Mafia ways are extremely effective!!! so, maybe after scaring the crap out of them and causing them to lose peace as they do us, then switch to the later method.

You always hear this is a FREE country with FREE enterprise opportunity, and of course lots of it is TRUE but not really, I and of course along with others have been stopped by the FDA to import some of the world’s FINEST foods from some countries that USA does not deem to be fit to sell their products in USA because the 2 countries even though allies but have had to prior food treaty, which I find to be a STUPID IRONY, nevertheless, the Government STOPS me from doing business. So now my question is why this SAME Government CANNOT stop these morons from terrorizing us and robbing us from the peace that we need to enjoy. I don’t OWE these Blood sucking leaches one Cent and many of you don’t owe them one Cent, so obviously thousands of us are their victims; so why this Government that STOPS me and others from conducting our FREE ENTERPRISE which is totally clean, friendly giving the American people the chance and the opportunity to eat some of the world’s GREATEST foods and drink some of the GREATEST Beverages, YET, this very same Government is NOT stopping them from terrorizing us???

some one who tried to bully me about an account i paid off 12 years ago, told me i still owed interest, told her good luck with that and hung up, BEWARE

They called our business phone. They hung up without saying a word.

Don't answer, won't answer whatever their game is. CALLER ID, "man's best friend."

This is a collection company who contracts for Capital One Bank. If you have a Capital One Credit card you are in default on (they also collect for other financial institutions) they will call you relentlessly. However, let your voice be heard if you are being called more than five (5) times in a given day. This is considered harassment and can be stopped, but you have to be willing to report them.

I get these calls to my home , even on Sunday morning. anit that some *%@! ? I answered only once in the past 4 months and a man with a foreign accent asked if I was so-an-so. I told them "no" , and it fricking SUNDAY. stop calling me....I NEED TO FIND OUT WHO THESE GUYS ARE. IT JUST SHOWS "UNAVAILABLE" - ON MY LAND LINE.

I do not think it is legal to keep calling like this, from different numbers, and twice on one day. Right now I have blocked these numbers, but no telling when they will call from a different number. I have no outstanding bills, or accounts, and they do not leave a message for whom they are trying to get a hold of either!! ARG! This is so maddening!! How do we get these calls to stop? I am chronically ill, and this extra stress is not good for my health.

Got a call from the same number and a variation of it. Its a collection agency that tries to collect on zombie debts or dead/settled past debts.
I registered at this government site. If they continue to call after 31 days you can file a complaint with the appropriate government agency for infringing your rights.

Claimed I owed a debt. Couldn't even verify debt. Tried to change the subject when I requested as to how they obtained my number, what the original debt was for, then spoke over me when I asked to speak to her supervisor. Her supervisor, claimed I owed the debt from two banks I never had accounts with. Then suggested I may or may not have purchased a computer. That never happened. I told them to verify the information they claimed they had for me. They told me I had to give them my personal identification d.o.b, more specifically over the phone! Honestly, they expect me to pay them a dime over an account they said was a decade old and couldn't verify. They both constantly spoke over me so I could not get a word in edge wise. They accused me of having nothing better to do then getting into shouting matches with them over the phone. Hmm...those idiots called me, not the other way around.

They found another number to call from. Calls everyday, sometimes twice a day. They have been doing it to me for over two years now. Haven't answered yet, nor do I ever intend to. They are nothing but low lifes trying to get money from over the SOL accounts. They can't hurt you except for the annoying calls. NEVER answer as you don't want to give them any ammunition whatsoever.

No matter what number you call from, no one at this number or address owes you or anyone else one dime.
