Caller said I was eligible, for a new phone
Actually didn't say "Verizon" but he was calling for my "cellular carrier".He didn't try to sell me on an upgrade but just said I was eligible for a new phone. My contract is nearly up with Verizon so I am well aware of my options.Very strange call.
CRANBERRY TW PA - Verizen Wireless - 724 742 4342
Called in afternoon under toll free. Verizon has been doing this to us for a long time. we are their customer but.........don't like phone calls to my unlisted phone number and am on the do not call list.
No message left on my VM, when I called back it gave me an automated sales pitch for Verizon. I don't trust it at all and I hung up immediately.
Word to the wise, NEVER answer numbers you don't recognize.
Called my home today, no one was at home, just saw it on caller ID. 714-742-4342 called at 2:54 PM on 07/07/2009~~~~~~~~
If you pick up the phone when it is ringing, it will more than likely be a collection
agency on the other end looking for any kind of info to connect you to an account or
create one. If you see the number on your caller ID and call it, you will actually
connect to the actual party that the number was assigned to.
It's called phone spoofing. This is mostly done by collection agencies. They pretend
to be someone else and getting enough info from you to create an account. Next thing
you will get is a paper threat to pay something in full or go to court. Some of us
have been dealing with these bottom feeders for months and years. We have programs
that track and trace these numbers and then match them to the time and dates with the
phone company. None have matched the actual caller. They also spoof themselves as
your neighbors. Advice: take your bill or some proof to the phone provider and have
them trace. If you owe money or have ever in the past, you can bet places like these
will be faking themselves as someone else to get the data they need. Type:"phone
spoofing" in your browser or here's a site for a start:
en.wikipedia.org . Everyone should be aware of these
activities for their own protection. Also see: "predictive dialers" and "VOIP".
Note: Two known collection agencies that were tracked: Law Offices of Joe Pezzuto -

telemarketing call from someone trying to say they are with verizon, a company I have never done business with, calling my home phone which is on the do not call list, I called them back and did a little tail chewing and they promised they would remove my name from their list, something it should never have been on if they followed the federal guidelines for telemarketers. I informed them that I would be filing a complaint and they just said "ok". Not a very professional group, I suspect its a scam or a fly-by-nighter.
Prerecorded says its verizon "reviewing your plan" and offers a 1-800 number to call for deals.
Weirdly, the phone they called is a T-MOBILE prepay, and I NEVER give the number to anyone.
Yet the prerecorded message makes it sound like they think its a verizon cel number they are calling.
Either way, its annoying, and reminds me why I only use prepay phones.
I was on my cell phone when he called on my home phone. Odd.
"Chris" (extension 9680) from Verizon Wireless called my cell phone asking how I liked my current cell phone plan. He sounded like he was drunk or on drugs.
Call was from Marcus at Verizon Wireless asking about a phone I bought last year. Sales call.
They hung up when my phone answered (Thanks to my Tele-Zapper, they must be using an auto-dialer). I called them back, got Verizon Wireless sales dept.
Now they are on my blocked number list
