Those idiots called yet again. I do not answer calls from people I do not know. I know nobody named "Unknown Name". I learned here that it is a collection agency. Since I have zero debt they do not want me, and I will not help them track down someone with my name or whatever... It is not my job!

Mr. Copeland has pasted this same useless remark verbatim dozens of times over on various mystery caller threads since at least Summer 2009. In fact, it's nearly the only thing he has ever said on such sites. It's applied to fresh threads and to long dormant threads like this one, making these ''answers to nothing''. Could be a scammer, a debt collector, a sales call, a charity, it doesn't matter to him. One size fits all, no explanations, just the same vague wave to ''these types of calls''.

Any firm taking the time to manage or hire a call center has already factored that cost into its budget. Don't you suppose that cost is peanut shells compared to losing consumer lawsuits in the thousands for violations of FDCPA, FCRA, TSR, and state laws? Would an attorney general suit or FTC fine costing six or seven figures not frighten a phone pest just a little more than losing a handful of parking meter change? Deception and stall tactics on the consumer's part are a waste of time. It's a hollow victory to stoop to the level of dodgy callers to create pennies of revenge.

More of Copeland pouncing on empty threads ....

The Only Way To Stop These Kinds Of Calls Is To Make Them Pay. Always Answer - They Have To Pay For Completed Call. Keep Them Talking As Long As Possible With Fake Info So They Have To Pay More.

If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior. Learn your rights at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

2009-05-02 22:02:10 UTCjust me ...

robo-call with no information as to:
-name of company they represent
-account number
-amount owed

did leave phone number to return the call: 877-533-6688

reporting them for leaving message that anyone in the house can hear with information that they are a collection agency and giving the name of the debtor on the message - this is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
