I suspect some of these people are correct - I am assuming it is the National Wildlife Federation. My father-in-law is now in an assisted living facility and used to donate to them. We are constantly getting "gimme" letters in the mail from them also. I just ignore them.

Get calls from this number on my business line.

Did not answer phone. The caller ID clearly shows Share Group Inc and I just ignore them.

I have been getting calls from this and other numbers over a disputed bill with my ex-mobile carrier, Verizon (whom I haven't done business with for going on 4 years!). Originally, I was harrassed by a company called PMS (I'm not kidding--PMS!. They sent me a letter as well, so I was able to send them a certified letter telling them to stop calling. This "group" calls from all over the country; Iowa, California, Florida, Pennsylvania, etc, so I don't know where their corporate offices are.

Apparently they do collections and telemarketing calls.

I did get them to stop, for a while at least, but you may not agree with my method...Whenever caller-ID showed a strange number, I picked up the phone and uttered the most filthy, obscene things I could think of and then hung up. After a couple of these, the calls stopped, at least for the time-being. Just make sure that that strange area code isn't your Aunt Millie in Peoria, or someone like that : ).

To Paul: Please don't blame the ACLU for the actions of an unscrupulous telemarketer. Of the 10 bucks you sent, the ACLU only saw about one dollar, and the telemarketer got the rest. Never donate to a charity organization, or group when you get a call like that. Give directly to the organization--that way they will get the entire amount. Also, make sure to tell them not to share your name with other groups.

The same is true for magazines (whether they sell over-the-phone or door-to-door). Pick up a copy at a newsstand, and get the publisher's address from the inside. They will be happy to sell you a subscription for a fraction of what the marketer would get.

These guys seriously won't stop calling me. I donated $10 once to the ACLU, and now for over a year I get 1 or 2 calls a week. My recommendation, DO NOT DONATE A PENNY TO ACLU!

this isn't the only number that "share group" calls from

But why don't they answer when you say hello if they want a contribution? Dave..that would make sense your comment about call blocking. Every time someone calls for a contribution under normal circumstance they are thrilled to tell you who they are and what they want from you. The reason why I said that Dave's comment would make sense is; Years ago I lived in a city and a company structured a huge high rise that had a heliport on top for the owner. He screwed up everyone's signals for any type of reception. He soon after offered a very nice expensive cable package to everyone he screwed and everyone had to take it he expanded to a very profitable cable company as a result.

numerous calls at the office and now on my cell. The Share Group announced who they were at the office. The other one leaves no message on cell with the this number and when you answer they say nothing. Oh communications "Techie people" out there please share with us your wisdom and tell us this is not a new sophisticated crime where they are obtaining some sort of information or location. Please advise

They're calling on behalf of a non-profit org. that you have
donated to in the past. They don't specify the organization
or leave a message when they call.

These jerks call me every day!!!! We have yet to answer. We do not answer calls we cannot identify but they are bothersome...

These assholes call repeatedly under a different number each time. I would assume their strategy is to defeat number blocking technologies. In fact, the numbers are most likely generated by the same business entity that sells call blocking to its residential customers. Telecom companies are a black hole when it comes to business ethics. As for the do-not-call list, its useless. We get as many calls now as before they started it. Direct marketing has a powerful lobby. We, as mere citizens, have no such organized representation in Washington, so we're screwed.

Caller said he represented the Nat'l. Wildlife Federation asking me to support by renewing membership with $15 by credit card.

Woman caller said she was calling from the League of Women Voters, then a sentence or two later said she was calling from HRC. Asked me to renew a membership that was renewed months ago. Very strange call, very unprofessional, actually sounded like she was stoned or something.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
