I called the number back and got a recording stating that I had been called because I was on a previous list of supporters for one of their groups. It gave me two options: to be called back with more information or to have my number removed from their list. I opted for the latter. We'll see.

These assholes call repeatedly under a different number each time. I would assume their strategy is to defeat number blocking technologies. In fact, the numbers are most likely generated by the same business entity that sells call blocking to its residential customers. Telecom companies are a black hole when it comes to business ethics. As for the do-not-call list, its useless. We get as many calls now as before they started it. Direct marketing has a powerful lobby. We, as mere citizens, have no such organized representation in Washington, so we're screwed.

I decided to pick up the phone and just site there silently. You're first answered by a robot, and a recorded female voice says to please stand by while you are connected to an agent. Then you get a real person. I didn't respond, so they just hung up.

Yes, very persistent, calling 3 to 4 times a day and no message. If I'm home, I've started picking up the phone and leaving it on the counter. I walk away and don't hang up until I hear the phone company "tin lady" telling me to hang up. I'm hoping that, at some point, they'll decide it's not worth the money to keep up with the shenanigans.

We just got back from a trip and had 23 calls on our caller ID, several from this "Share Group". Some of the numbers they called from are: 619-801-8146; 626-273-8232; 562-223-8845; 562-223-8843; 626-273-8332; and 714-682-8331. I wonder if they are "sharing" customer lists. (Maybe they ought to share the same phone). I near as I can figure out they must be either an offshore marketing company, a political campaign, or a prison collection agency. Neither my spouse nor I have had any business with them and never purchase over the phone. We are not late on any credit accounts and do not know anyone in prison. If it is a political campaign, maybe the calls will end after next Tuesday. I'll let you know.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
