I am very sorry for you Helen, is a pity that this is how your life is
going to end as soon as you don't comply. As you can see there is no need
of introducing myself to you because I don't have any business with you,
my duty as I am mailing you now is just to KILL you and I have to do it
as I have already been paid for that.

But I give you a chance. Call my neighbor 315-678-2840 and say password "there is time to save my skin" and if that would sound convincing, I will forget about you.
Tell him this password for Timothy Sinclair (be sure it is not my real name).

WARNING: DO NOT THINK OF CONTACTING THE POLICE OR EVEN TELLING ANYONE
BECAUSE I WILL KNOW.

hi there i recieved an email from this person today. telling us we had to call him. he had been paid to kill my bf.

2008-07-15 21:02:07 UTCRyan

Does anybody know if this 'scum of the earth' has been caught?

2008-07-15 18:16:22 UTCkathy

I got an email from this Timothy guy offering heroine, cocaine and other things. I know it's a matter of time before he gets nabbed. Some people just need to be eliminated. period. they make our world a garbage bin.

2008-07-10 23:16:59 UTCHitler

Does anyone here post on Craigslist? The account this email was sent to does not have my personal info in it. I dont use my name or real addy. I use a grave yard postal (Zip) code for all my email accounts. lol But this email had my name in it. The only place I can think of that has this email addy and my real name is Craigslist.

2008-07-10 14:05:31 UTCDiana

I recieved the same email on the fourth!
I hate that my first name was used and its not in my email address... creeps me out!
hope they catch this person....SOON

2008-07-09 23:59:36 UTCD

Also got this message on the fourth, and it came to my hotmail account that I use ONLY for job seeking (Monster, Biospace, etc).

2008-07-09 15:22:30 UTCLiz

We received both emails on the 4th...we reported it to our local police department who all but laughed it off. He said they would look into it but that basically, nobody ever follows up on these things. That's reassuring!

2008-07-09 01:04:39 UTCZZ

I agree!

Jake,
You need to post the information if it is valid. I know I wouldn't send a stranger an email. Sorry, but your statement sounds like more spam and possible extortion.

2008-07-09 00:44:39 UTCdorota

hello
i am from holland and i have this e-mail also on hotmail, and my firs and last name was corect ...

2008-07-08 19:53:15 UTCShelley

I have a Monster account too!

2008-07-08 19:49:24 UTCShelley to Jake

I just got my email TODAY about an hour and 1/2 ago so.... not sure if it's automated or what but there are still emails going out.

2008-07-08 19:31:56 UTCShelley

I got it.... I live in Florida and have Yahoo email address. I didn't take it serious, thought it was a bit strange and thought "What a Douche Bag!" I will report it however!

2008-07-08 14:09:23 UTCRyan

Hey Jake, if you actually have information, just post it. Personally, given the fact we're in a forum discussing how our hacked personal information got into the wrong hands, resulting in a hoax email containing a death threat, I wouldn't send an email to any email address randomly posted in a newsgroup!

2008-07-08 06:16:29 UTCJake

He's been busted, so no worries fellow victems! If you have any questions my email address is sssthor@yahoo.com

2008-07-07 23:44:13 UTCMichelle

I got the email too. I'm on bellsouth.net, I do not have a facebook accout. I do have a monster account and that's the email address I received the email from Timothy. It's definately monster. I remember they were hacked a few months ago. Class action suit against monster!

2008-07-07 21:35:52 UTCAshley

I got the same email that said he was going to kill me. I am from the UK and just got back from a weekend away, it seriously scared me and thankful i found this website to calm my nerves. I will be reporting it to my local police station tomorrow though. The only site i have in common with everyone on here is monster.com so i agree it must have been from there. I just hope i sleep ok tonight, it shakes you to think there are such sick people out there!!

2008-07-07 21:09:27 UTCxoxo

I got the same e-mail with the 315 number and was freaked. Just got it yesterday but it was sent on the 4th of July.

he uses different phone number every time in his email. i got this message and i live in the netherlands.
i reported this email as mail terror on cybercrime.

2008-07-07 15:56:12 UTCIT_Gal

I also got this email on the 4th. It was put in SPAM, sent to my Yahoo address. I also have a Monster account. I rarely get spam to this email account as I hold it very private. I have reported this to the Internet Crime department with the FBI. I included full headers of the email, I have also printed the email and full headers. Keep the hard copy records. Has someone gotten an attorney so that we can contact Monster yet?

2008-07-07 14:46:06 UTCKathy

I also received both emails, but they were addressed to my husband and sent to my email address. That is scary, how did they know my husbands name. I too have reported this to the FBI and am in the process of reporting this to my local authorities. Also, they are not trying to sell you drugs, they just want your money.
They need to be stopped, because some unsuspecting person who is not aware can possibly have a heart attack over this or lose their life savings. The person or persons involved are sick and need to be sent away for a long time.
==============================================================================

I am very sorry for you Robert, is a pity that this is how your life is

To all I just got this information that some jobsites got hacked. read below

Hackers have turned the harvesting of personal information from Monster.com and other large US jobsites into a lucrative black market business

A Russian gang called Phreak has created an online tool that extracts personal details from CVs posted onto sites including Monster.com, AOL Jobs, Ajcjobs.com, Careerbuilder.com, Careermag.com, Computerjobs.com, Hotjobs.com, Jobcontrolcenter.com, Jobvertise.com and Militaryhire.com. As a result the personal information (names, email addresses, home addresses and current employers) on hundreds of thousands of jobseakers has been placed at risk, according to net security firm PrevX.

I got this message too, except it had the phone number of a "neighbor" to call and say a password. When I did reverse lookup of the phone number, it is registered to a legitimate person in New York. I filed a report with the police department.

2008-07-07 13:05:39 UTCAnna

Received the same email on my work address. Contacted our legal dept. They are investigating.

2008-07-07 04:58:32 UTCCarol

THIS GUY IS NOT ONLY CALLING HERE (HE HANGS UP BEFORE HE SAYS ANYTHING), BUT HE IS SENDING E-MAILS. I would like very much to know what is going on. In the e-mails he says he is going to kill us and has been paid by someone we know as a friend to do it. It would seem to me that somehow this guy could be traced and arrested as I think what he is doing is a felony. Can't he be traced to his location and taken into custody?

2008-07-07 00:06:29 UTCDonavan

Didn't get the phone call but the email has made its way to Canada.

I am very sorry for you Donavan, is a pity that this is how your life is

I too received the e-mail on July 4th and I'm in Canada and I too had an acct. with Monster. Am now trying to figure out how the heck to delete it although I suppose it's a little late for that. I guess Mr. Timothy Stuff didn't like my reply to his death threat so I received this one from him today!

Strangely enough I just realized it too is dated July 4th yet I received it July 6th, after I told him where to go on July 5th.
Go figure! Now I'm really scared, when he gets me home he's going to crush my head and poke my eyes and cut my fingers? Those sound like big Ouchies!

2008-07-06 18:18:04 UTCJackie

I did received the same email and knew it was a hoax but did not like the idea of him knowing my full name. After reading all of this I deactivated my account through monster and reported the information to the FBI. I feel Monster should be held responsible for all of this.

2008-07-06 18:13:20 UTCZZ

I wouldn't have replied to the idiot at all. Now he knows someone will be after him. That is probably why the phones are not working. By the way, when you call his phone he will most likely have caller ID so now he has your email (that obviously works, full name (Caller ID) and phone number (Caller ID)). He can get your address just with your phone number. I deleted my old email account anyway since I haven't used it in about 2 years.

The best thing you can do is to give the email to the local police and report it. He actually left some key parts out of the original email such as that he has his "friends" watching you now. This scam seemed to start in Russia and it sounds like people received this kind of scam before from overseas (especially Nigerian) email addresses. (I had some time to research this scam since it affected me on 4 July).

I also talked to my brother who is a retired police officer of 30 years. Generally if someone has a contract to kill you, you are done. The killer will not negotiate fearing his own life and reputation.

2008-07-06 17:19:16 UTCJesse

I got the same email however mine had a 315 number to call which just happens to be my same area code. Set an alarm off but i wasnt too worried because I have a small arsenal of weapons. Oh well thought maybe I would have a little fun to spice up my life.

2008-07-06 17:05:02 UTCEli

It has to be Monster! I do have gmail, but not everyone who received this e-mail does. I do still get job recommendations from Career Builder and Monster.
Here was my response to Timothy:
I am very sorry for you for several reasons. First of all, you can not spell, use proper grammar, or proper punctuation. Therefore, I can only assume that you are uneducated. Second, you have resorted to a life of theft and fraud with this pitiful scam. Finally, I have reported you to the FBI and they were already aware of your scam. So you are about to be in a world of trouble, little man. You picked the wrong person to send this to. Have fun in Federal Prison :) Watch out for your cornhole.

2008-07-06 16:56:39 UTCTroy

Received this fourth of July email as well. I live and do business in the 315 area code so at first it was a little scary. A huge weight was lifted from my shoulders in seeing this email. Please also file compliant at ic3.gov . THIS IS NOT FUNNY! I hope they catch him for doing this.

2008-07-06 15:39:47 UTCRS

This is sick, I have turned it in as well

2008-07-06 11:56:04 UTCBill

Helping a friend who received this same threat. Just want to remind every one to be sure and include FULL headers when reporting this to law enforcement. By having full headers from multiple messages, they will be able to see patterns that are not apparent in only a single message.

I got both e-mails one on 4th and one on 5th, I reported this to local police. Sounds like this guy thinks he's like santa clause if he can kill us all for not complying. I would like to see someone like this come for me, trust me I'm prepared for such a confrontation thanx to my right to bare arms!!!

2008-07-05 20:45:33 UTCEGS

Got the same email as you guys. i live in england so figured it very unlikely that this socially inept cretin would be taking a trip over here. Hopefully the only trip he'll be taking is to prison where i'm sure they'd be happy to accomodate him.
I'm also on monster but wondering how he'd have access to our info. Was wondering if he was posing as an employer of some kind then he'd be able to access CV's. Could be way off the mark there though.
I would like to know if they catch this geek. It's frustrating to know that some fruitcake is sat in his parents house getting kicks from trying to intimidate people. Exciting life this person must lead. These people should be named and shamed.

2008-07-05 18:16:24 UTCF

He's also using this number: whocalled.us

2008-07-05 18:08:56 UTCZZ

I think once they catch the person they should be charged with felony per incident with no remorse and then highly publicized that the idiot is spending his life with his best friend Bubba in the slammer. I know convicts would love to get a hold of him. I can imagine the conversation.
What are you in for?
Threatening on the internet.
Lets have a chat buddy.

2008-07-05 16:08:58 UTCV

I got it to and I am not on Facebook nor am I screening my personal email anywhere else since I have a separate info email which I use for that purpose - the funny thing is that they used my Swedish email address. It seems like it's happening all over the world and for my world I can not understand the reason behind this at all.

2008-07-05 15:41:30 UTCGMT

Just curious how the emails are addressed. For some of us, it is just our first name, and for some others it is their full name. Wonder where the sender picked the name from, because on Monster, I have my full name listed, and yet this email is addressed to me by my first name!

Hi Kelly,

Yes, I have a resume posted in Monster and Careerbuilder, but I got the message through Gmail. I just really hope this person will be caught at some point. And if this e-mail has been circulating for over a year now, I think it's ridiculous that people keeps forwarding or sending it to others! Threating is serious stuff!

I'm so pissed, when I read it my stomach started to cramp really bad! I just had a family member in Mexico that almost went through the same thing and they went really far as to been able to fake the voice of a cousin (living in U.S.) and ask for money to my aunt in Mexico. This person even called her every day over the phone!

Then they faked "my cousin" was in trouble and needed money to be deposited in a bank account. Thank God they found out it was all a scam but my aunt had a anxiety attack! When I got this e-mail I almost got one too! What an asshole!

I hope justice will be made for all that received this e-mail!

2008-07-05 14:39:47 UTCEC

Check out fbi.gov. This scam as we have learned has been around for awhile, and in various forms. I gather it is being checked already by various law enforcement agencies. A report can be filled out at: ic3.gov and the FBI will act on it. IMO scams are bad enough but something like that could be dangerous to an unwary and sick recipient. I really want to know what finally happens to the turd! Happy Independence Day, eh? :)

2008-07-05 13:17:04 UTCLiza

I'm just glad I did a little surfing and found this website as I work in law enforcement and I'm sure I've pissed plenty of people off to want to hurt myself or my family. I do not have a Gmail account and it was sent to a netzero account, I do concur that this person got the information from Monster.com as it is the only website we all agree to have had an account at one point or another and I do remember receiving an email from Monster a year or so ago saying that they had been hacked and that personal information had been released.
After contacting the Police Depatment in Baldwinsville, NY ( number that was listed in the email was 585 678 2840, which resulted coming from upstate NY) and my local police department in MI, I almost feel stupid now.
Thanks to everyone who posted on this site, I feel much better.
Liza

Same email here also to an account I only used for job searching from 2 years ago. I think we have a connection with Monster. Can't anyone keep personal info secure these days?

The 585-237-3346 number is from Perry, NY. I called the police department there but 3 people already beat me to it.

The FBI needs to catch who did this and Monster needs to pay.

2008-07-05 07:19:48 UTCMisty

Poor poor idiot that send this email out. He fucked up and sent it to the wrong person. My daddy is Deputy Director of the FBI and is irate right about now. Any other time a hoax like this is sent out it is always investigated, however this came straight to my FBI big shot daddy's little girl and he is pissed. Although there are much more important issues that he has to deal with he has made a promise to exact words "catch this bastard and lock his ass up for a long time" Yes there are many cumputer geek fuckers that think that they are the smartest ever and will never get caught ha ha ha FBI has the best geeks and they are better. Trust me thats why they get paid the big bucks....I think its funny. I mean come on how smart are you to make a mistake as big as sending some shit like this straight to the FBI. I can't wait til he or she gets caught.....Happy 4th to all........

I called various FBI agencies. Omaha blew me off and DC was a great help. I also called the local police. I was freaked out this morning for about 1/2 hour. Usually I can tell spam; however, for the same reasons above, I didn't realize it was a SPAM. It just didn't make sense to kill me and list a phone number. Odd. I would love it if attorneys and a class action law suite was created. I just don't think the clown will be caught as is with the infamous Nigerian scams.

The numbers used were both 585-991-3301 and 585-237-3346. I didn't find anything useful through whois or hmndnsgrp.com. When I checked the site the html was empty and only displayed a blank page. I am also on Monster since a couple years now.

Whoever, it is pathetic and horrible.

I got one to and I reported it to ic3.gov and also reported it to the police in my city.I also wrote yahoo about this and I dont know if I will write anyone else but I might if I find someone else to send this to that can do something about this terrible email. It is not funny,it is just terrible someone would send something like this out to dozens of people. The officer told me it was probably spam and not to worry.I told him I was creeped out because who ever sent it had my full name, yes it probably is 100% spam mail,so what.No one should have to open their email and see this garbage.I would rather see a penis enlargement or one of the uk lotto spams then this crap.I am sorry to those of you that received this email.

2008-07-05 05:51:10 UTCKelly

Hi GC
Have you ever posted a resume on monster.com? It appears that that's the connection.

2008-07-05 05:49:47 UTCbrownie

yeh i just got home from a fun day of drinking and fireworks... i was at my computer and checked my email and got this shit. seriously....wtf is wrong with people. who in their right mind would send something out like that...threatening to kill people if they dont comply....and the email was written with the worst english grammar....fucking assclowns need to die.....

2008-07-05 05:05:39 UTCGC

Has someone forwarded this info to the FBI? This guy needs to be stopped, it's not funny at all!

2008-07-05 05:00:49 UTCGC

I got an e-mail from this guy as well, read when I got home. Shouldn't I had surfed the web I wouldn't have slept thinking it was real.

It seems he has sent tons of e-mails with the same crap but using a different number. What and idiot! I just don't like the idea of him using my first name-how did he get it?!

Anyways, bunch of s&*% to ruin one's day only! I hope the FBI will trace this kind of things since can be taken seriously by more naive people and get all freaked out!

2008-07-05 04:58:54 UTCJ.

I received this email as well.

2008-07-05 04:58:54 UTCBoston Champs

I was nervous at first, but now that I see that this was emailed to a worldwide mass of people and also forwarded to the FBI, I can sleep better. It's sad that people out their are actually doing stuff like this. Glad I have a tight relationship with God. Thanks for this thread.

2008-07-05 04:43:16 UTCTerry

I agree with the 'finding an attorney' comment. I too am on Monster and, come to think of it, it would be the only site where my full name is associated with the email address that this email was sent too. Not happy. I can only imagine the slew of crap I'm going to start recieving at this address now that this individual has this information to give to anyone.

2008-07-05 04:42:32 UTCJS

I got the same email today. I laughed as I read it to my family, and they didn't think it funny. They said call the police. So I got on Google and voila. Found this helpful thread.

Thanks everyone.

2008-07-05 04:08:57 UTCJeff

I also received the death threat version of the email with the 315-678-1644 phone number to call. It really freaked me out until I started doing some web searching and realized that it was certainly a scam. I've had a monster.com account for several years, so it's good to at least know the likely source - thanks everyone for your input. Someone has to have a negative zero social life and be a complete moron to send out something like this to get attention.

2008-07-05 03:58:42 UTCWinooski

Yes, I got the same E-mail this morning from the Coward, Timothy Killer. I called the first phone number, 585-991-3301, and it was a disconnected Verizon number. I tried the other number, 585-237-3346 and a Guy with a foriegn accent answered "Hello, Hello), but never said a word to the idiot.

2008-07-05 03:33:26 UTCBrenda S

I too recieved an email from this person and like several others here I also have an resume on monster but have not used it for a long time. I live in Md so evidently he or she sent quite a few emails out. This one was sent to my employer email address and they too are looking into it

2008-07-05 03:27:23 UTCGingie

I got the same email today also, scared the crap out of me. I called the police and they just blew me off..... My daughters ex father in law is a cop and he has been harassing me and I thought it might be him, you never know, but I am glad (not happy) to know it was not sent to just me, I am sorry so many other people have been scared like me.

2008-07-05 03:23:03 UTCK

Now that we know it is officially Monster who didn't protect our personal information and Monster has posted on their site about this, we need to find an attorney.

2008-07-05 03:10:44 UTCMax

Got the same email and Monster is the connection it seems, because thats the only place my name and email are connected.

*sigh*

2008-07-05 02:44:43 UTCRyan

I am very sorry for you Ryan, is a pity that this is how your life isgoing to end as soon as you don't comply. I know its a prank, but still this guy should be stopped.

2008-07-05 02:40:44 UTCChris

I've used the Gmail account for job/resume sites as well, including monster....

2008-07-05 02:37:34 UTCRyan

I meant to say...That explains why the *second* email came from a second host..."...but I'm sure you all got that!

2008-07-05 02:34:56 UTCRyan

I forwarded each email to the appropriate host, and have heard from the host of the first email. They said that an account was hacked, and they have shut it down. That explains why the email came from a second host....let's see what they have to say.

2008-07-05 02:11:34 UTCMarie

I got this too - and I AM ON MONSTER!

2008-07-05 02:07:41 UTCMarie

I got the message too - this dude is crazy!

2008-07-05 01:59:57 UTCjanet

I to have used and may still be registered with Monster. However i notcied something else, I am not very technical and know next to nothing about the way email are recieved but I did notice that quite often the emails show in the To: mine and my husbands name, sometimes just the email address itself but when I get one from facebook, it states my full name, first second and last, this is how the email come from scary Tim, in the To: it stated my full name. Does this mean anything......I have checked and my email from other sources never have my full name on the To: only facebook and scary tim???

2008-07-05 01:52:53 UTCSanj

I'm on monster.com as well. I received the email today and responded by my own "challenge". Timmy got pissy and responded two hours later saying that he was going to poke my eyes and cut off my fingers. I then "invited him to Chicago". This kid is a punk.

2008-07-05 01:50:40 UTCK

Yep, I am on Monster from a longgg time ago, at least 9 months ago. I also am on CareerBuilder

2008-07-05 01:43:57 UTCKelly

Bingo!

2008-07-05 01:33:45 UTCR

Apparently according to Monster, they have been hacked and private data were stolen. Please read this:

2008-07-05 01:32:06 UTCP

I was thinking monster.com also because they used my brother-in-law's full name in this message that was sent to my email address. And monster.com is the only system I can think of where I have my email address associated with my brother-in-law's full name.

2008-07-05 01:26:23 UTCwhiskeyandlace

I have my resume on careerbuilder. Monster is the only online job engine I dont use. I should though...lol Well hell with it I sent him an email trying to get his attention and now I am going to get drunk and play with fireworks. I am on facebook but my email address is the same addy I have been using for 9 years now. So I couldnt even begin to guess where he got my information.

2008-07-05 01:24:32 UTCBen

I receive this same email today .

2008-07-05 01:22:09 UTCR

I also had a hint: Many of us are software persons. So I suspect we all at some point used Monster..

2008-07-05 01:21:30 UTCRyan

Kelly & GMT:

I too am on Monster (also on Workopolis...it's Canadian). I'm going to assume he got the emails from Monster.

2008-07-05 01:20:42 UTCGMT

Kelly,

In Gmail, you can open the email, click on the arrow next to the "Reply" button, and select "show original". It will show the detailed header of the message, where u will see the ip.

2008-07-05 01:20:19 UTCHulk

I received this email this morning and yeah it did catch me off guard but after several searches on the internet it turned out that this idiot is trying to copycat a death threat scam in 2007 to try and grab personal information for identity theft but since the phone number is bogus, its just a sick joke. The funny part is that they usually get caught cause they always take more risks.

Beware Dude... FBI and Interpol will be after YOU!!!!

2008-07-05 01:19:40 UTCRemi

Question: Do you guys who received the spam had the email address in Monster, or on a Resume in a site similar to Monster?. It seems most of us have their name in their e-mail address and use those address for serious reasons.

2008-07-05 01:18:37 UTCKelly

Okay dumb question but how do I find the sender's IP?

2008-07-05 01:18:13 UTCInno

Hi guys, I ma in Italy and I received the same messagge form this Timothy. Surprisingly, he correctly speeld my whole name (Innocenzo), therefore I beleive this is not just a software.
What do you suggest?

2008-07-05 01:15:26 UTCgoat

I got these emails too. I'm in Atlanta. I do have facebook acnt but no gmail. I've forwarded to secret service cybercrimes unit.

2008-07-05 01:09:45 UTCGMT

I did a WHOIS lookup on the sender's IP address (72.9.227.202), and the address came up to be:

OrgName: Global Net Access, LLC
OrgID: GNAL-2
Address: 1100 White St SW
City: Atlanta
StateProv: GA
PostalCode: 30310
Country: US

Was wondering if all of u received the mail from the same IP or different ones.

2008-07-05 01:04:04 UTCGMT

I received this email too..on my gmail account. It did creep me out for a second, but then being a software person, I recognized this as a spam! Kelly, u might be on to something..even I had used this email account for job sites! I hope the authorities track down the perpetrator soon.

2008-07-05 00:58:48 UTCjack

Like all of you, I received this ridiculous email in my hotmail account today. The hilarious part is I’m a federal officer. I know without a doubt that this individual will be tracked.

2008-07-05 00:52:48 UTCKelly

Hi Ryan
The mailings I see most in my box are from Monster, Jobs Online and SnagaJob...also from the transportation security administration website. He also used my addy on military.com as well.

2008-07-05 00:49:15 UTCUNKN

Unfortunately for Timothy, he has threatened someone involved in a serious Federal drug case. This was picked up by the US Marshall's and is now part of DEA/AFT/FBI investigation on terrorizing, threatening, and intimidation involving a certain case. Boy, what rotten luck... or is truly justice!

2008-07-05 00:46:46 UTCjanet

Not nice, I did a 411 reverse look up on the number given and the search came up with the name, John Campbell of Baldwinsville, NY, who is also listed as having two other phone numbers at the same address. Any way this is the message I got, I know its crap but its still not nice.
I am very sorry for you Janet, is a pity that this is how your life is
going to end as soon as you don't comply. As you can see there is no need
of introducing myself to you because I don't have any business with you,
my duty as I am mailing you now is just to KILL you and I have to do it

But I give you a chance. Call my neighbor 315-678-2789 and say password "there is time to save my skin" and if that would sound convincing, I will forget about you.

2008-07-05 00:09:29 UTCKelly

Are all recipients of this email gmail users? I got it today too in my gamil but it has my husband's name on it. Since to my knowledge he only used my email addy on job related websites, I'd say that's where the list came from.

2008-07-04 23:52:18 UTCRyan

I too received both emails, and as a savvy web user recognized both as a spam/scam/hoax email...HOWEVER, there are a couple of things that really got me concerned. #1: This wasn't simply writing a script that inserted a persons first name. My first name isn't in my email. Therefore, I have to assume this person bought a list somewhere...I'm guessing it's Facebook. #2: The second email seriously crossed the line from the usual spam/scam email. I sent the first email to the RCMP (I'm Canadian), and was about to get more serious with the second, until reading the postings here. I will, however, be contacting google and the two hosting companies in an effort to get them to do the right thing and contact the FBI on their own. Also, I believe that if this person is found, they should be publicly identified, and they should have to pay restitution to all that received their emails. Anybody else agree?

I ran timothykiller on yahoo messenger and it came back as a profile out of China.I want to see if he writes nme back. Im sure he knows that he has been reported to the authorities. I got this email two hours ago and called my local police a half hour later. Joke or no joke, it's creepy - to say the least. Police officer just stopped by and he asked me to print a copy of the email... he left with the copy and said he's going to call that 315-678-2789 phone number himself. I hope this jerk gets in some serious trouble. Said it looks like spam to him, but he will be forwarding all this to the Cyber Crimes unit. The police officer said it's, at the very least, a misdemeanor.

Happy Fourth everyone. :)

Hello All,

I just got the same email from a TimothyStuffKiller@gmail.com account. I too checked the number 315 678 1644 and its listd in upstate NY. Unfortunately, I live in upstate NY so it was a bit unsettling until I read all of the below. If anyone thinks there is any thing I can do to help get this person caught, please advise, as this kind of stuff is just so uncool.

Mine was a Hotmail Account, but if this number doesn't go to some place where they sell stuff, then what is the purpose of the death Threat? I thought may be the number at least has some sort of purpose, but it doesn't, so what is the purpose if there is no advertisement?

2008-07-04 22:29:40 UTCRK

I received the threatening email to my yahoo account, so it is not just a gmail phenomena.

The email's content is felony mail fraud and will be taken seriously by federal authorities. If the perpetrator successfully eludes capture, we can look forward to more threats in our inboxes.

If he eludes the police he can construct and distribute Internet kits describing how to perform mail fraud and remain at large.

2008-07-04 22:28:28 UTCJeff

Folks, for whatever reason this spammer used the phone number of a real person who has no connection at all with this message. I kept calling until someone picked up and the poor woman has no idea what is going on. I have directed her to this page so she has an understanding of the situation. My guess is that the scammer has guessed their voicemail or answering machine remote retrieval password and was hoping that they were out of town for the 4th and could pick up a bunch of voicemails from frightened people later in the day.

Just ignore and delete the message. Don't bother calling the number as the hapless person on the other end of the line has no idea what is going on and has already contacted law enforcement. There have been variants of this circulating for some time. See:

agonist.org

siouxcityjournal.com

2008-07-04 22:25:58 UTCChris

The e-mail address that he/she contacted me on is only used for FINANCIAL-related contacts. There is rarely any activity on this particular account (including spam).

Myspace, Facebook, Online orders, and other internet activity is all done with a seperate E-mail account.

2008-07-04 22:25:47 UTCBiggs

I just received this as well to my gmail account. Looking at the header info, it looks as if it was routed through apple.com according to one IP address referenced. Burton Hosting is based in the UK, so I notified the authorities at the IWF who will look into it. I work in the community so I will be following this closely. I don't take kindly to this type of threat.

I thought I saw "Timothy Killer" as a participant in Scramble, an online game that is an application adjunct to Facebook. I have forwarded his sick email to them.

2008-07-04 22:14:01 UTCX

Got two emails today. The first one scared the crap out of me, I called the cops, who are filing an incident report. Second one just pissed me off. This guy should fry.

2008-07-04 22:11:55 UTCSarah

Hi,

I live in Toronto. Like many others my phone number was different as well. I called the police, but they haven't heard anything here about any calls or emails. One question he did ask me was if I am on Facebook, cuz that is where this Timothy could have gotten the information from. I am...so I can't rule that out. But normally I never have my first and last name anywhere, it is not in my email address. So facebook could be an option. But I remember some guy tried to buy something of me online and said he was from Texas and wanted to buy something for his son who lives in south africa, and wanted me to send it there, he would pay me through a Money order online thing, something like Pay Pal but it asn't that, it was called different. I didn't fall for his scam, but I wanted to see how far I can take it. and I did give him my name and mailing address, but I thought what the hell, many people can find out my name and mailing address, so I didn't think anything of it. Did anyone have any sort of interaction at all? Anyway the number he left me was 315-678-2840 (did anybody call the number?) He must have many neighbors.

Cheers, I hope they get them.

2008-07-04 21:27:19 UTCCakes

Hey guys, I woke up to the same email this morning. I actually have a hotmail account, not a gmail and I also live in Alabama not florida. So it looks like it's been spread around. I know it was a prank or someone fishing for personal info, but a death threat is a felony right? I hope this person pays big for being such an idiot. Sometimes pranks are funny, but not when you're threatening somebody's life! I told my wife, what if some 70 year old grandmother received this and locked herself in her house for a month bc she took it serious? Definitely not ok.

2008-07-04 21:26:19 UTCRemi

Ouf, I'm glad other people received that e-mail. I do receive some spam, on in a while. But that one was REALLY scary.

2008-07-04 21:19:44 UTCXXXXX

We got an email too. After the nigeria scams, money is waiting for you, parcel is waiting for you, death threats in SPAM:

I am very sorry for you XXXXX, is a pity that this is how your life is
going to end as soon as you don't comply. As you can see there is no need
of introducing myself to you because I don't have any business with you,
my duty as I am mailing you now is just to KILL you and I have to do it
as I have already been paid for that.

But I give you a chance. Call my neighbor 315-678-1644 and say password
"there is time to save my skin" and if that would sound convincing, I
will forget about you.
Tell him this password for Timothy Sinclair (be sure it is not my real name).

WARNING: DO NOT THINK OF CONTACTING THE POLICE OR EVEN TELLING ANYONE
BECAUSE I WILL KNOW.

What a douchebag

2008-07-04 21:07:06 UTCEli

This guy is a total scam artist. He sent me a false death threat via e-mail and then tried to blackmail me into sending him money so that he wouldn't kill me. What a moron!

2008-07-04 21:06:21 UTCwhiskeyandlace

Im in Florida and my email is on yahoo... He uses Gmail though.Whoever it is.

That phone number is listed in Google's phone book, google.com, and a reverse lookup shows an address of Peter & Jane L Macdonald, 9098 Plainville Rd, Lysander, NY 13027

2008-07-04 21:05:01 UTCK

So did everyone who got this have gmail? Is everyone from Florida? I signed up for a credit class action lawsuit today, did anyone else. I wonder if any of these ways are how they got our info

2008-07-04 21:00:35 UTCJim F.

Got the same message in my GMail account which I forward to my local police department. I asked for a cyber crime/threat contact but now I see it's a pretty widespread thing. I will let them know, but I would like to know if anyone catches this idiot.

2008-07-04 20:57:32 UTCWhiskeyanlace

I recieved hte same email. I contacted the FBI and they gave me a web address to file it with. You can file for ocal police intervention if this is really scary but this guy is just looking for personal information. Trust me he comes against me he will go down...This is the website to report this to.....ic3.gov Report it to that sight and they will work on it...

2008-07-04 20:52:10 UTCEC

I got the e-mail too and have forwarded it on to the FTC and gmail abuse. Apparently it's a variation on a theme/con that seems to have started in Russia back in 1998 - yeah he was paid to kill (insert name) but will accept a pay-off from you hence awaiting the call. The originals according to scops, cnet, et al, ask for an amount up front. Considering this is a felony I really do hope law enforcement does its job and this person goes away for a long time.

2008-07-04 20:52:04 UTCAngie

This email made my day!! I waa like wow some one wants to kill me, but then I was like no he doesn't he just wants to sell me heroin and other such drugs. People should send more random emails like this and less emails about penis enlargement.

2008-07-04 20:44:47 UTCJerry

Got the same message today July 4th 08

I am very sorry for you Jerry, is a pity that this is how your life is

Yeah the prick got me too...I try to do a search on his IP address, but it seems to be blocked. I hope they catch this prick...I'll check the site for updates, hopefully someone will have good news about them.

2008-07-04 20:41:50 UTCK

I got this same email today. I used to live in Florida. I did just check my credit report online today, did anyone else do this? Maybe that is how they got our info?

2008-07-04 20:39:02 UTCG

I hope they shove a 4th of July firework up his ass when they catch the prick. I got the same message. Obviously a hoax ... although it feels a lot better confirming that here. The email address on the sender was TimothyStuff@notos.burtonhosting.com and the number to call was 315-678-2789. He's obviously not too bright, since law enforcement agencies can track cell numbers ... even cancelled ones! Come on and get some timothy! I'm waiting for ya!

2008-07-04 20:32:26 UTCAB

I got this message as well. I want to report this to someone but I am unsure as to whom. We called the phone number to see what it would say. One number is disconnected and the other is a continuous busy signal. I know this is probably some kind of joke but its NOT FUNNY.

2008-07-04 20:22:35 UTCJames

I got the exact same message to my gmail account, and I don't even live in the US. Definitely in bad taste. The # I got was 315-678-1644. I hope this person gets caught, cause it doesn't even sound funny.

2008-07-04 20:21:47 UTCB

Yeah, I got the same message as well, I just sent a reply saying; "That's very nice. Have fun with that."

I got the same email this morning. What a horrible joke!

2008-07-04 19:57:15 UTCD

I got the same email and this was a very horrible joke that someone decided to play. It was done in very bad taste and apparently this person needs a damn hobby b/c they had nothing else better to do with their time.

yeah, I laughed a bit, since I live half way around the globe.

2008-07-04 19:55:22 UTCChris

I received the same e-mail today: July 4, 2008 @ 9:09am. I live in Florida (supposedly where the E-mail originated), and am wondering if this may be linked to identify theft. Recently, there was a lot of credit information stolen from several 7-11 ATMs. By calling the numbers, additional information can be gathered... maybe enough to hijack your credit??

2008-07-04 19:42:45 UTCJW

I got this email at my gmail account but the phone number was different:::
Honestly - this is a really sick joke.

Cheers,

These people have nothing better to do with their time

2008-07-04 19:17:43 UTCRochesterian

We received this message today (7/4/2008) and I can tell you that the area code is Western New York State, near Rochester. The address in the Timothystuff email is Perry, NY, just south of Rochester. The webpage and various forms of the name do not exist.

No arms or drug dealer would be stupid enough to randomly broadcast information like that. Even if the information weren't traceable, the authorities could easily perform a sting operation in the event of a real transaction being arranged.

It's not the fact that someone created an email that personalizes the name or threatens people that bothers me... it's that someone actually went out of his way and took the time to make this. Talk about no life. My cousin is the sheriff of Monroe County, and he'll be hearing about this. I'm sure he has connections in Wyoming County. Trust me... some little prankster is going to be knee-deep in trouble really soon.

2008-07-04 19:11:42 UTCJH

I too received this email today. I have reported it already to the FBI and plan on reporting it to the local authorities. What a stupid moron Timothy appears to be!

I too am a software developer....and know how to trace these things. This is obviously a 4th of July scam in bad taste and a threatning manner. I hope the FBI do trace or find the party responsible for the misuse of internet and people's email. Apparently, there is a circular of 2 emails being sent randomly to individuals from the names: Timothy Killer and Timothy Stuff. The same exact phone numbers are even being used!

See email below:

2008-07-04 15:58:30 UTCJC

This is a big scam. For reporting purposes, this is the person/identifiable information that is traceable to the numbers below:

Basic Info
Name: Marahall Krause
Address: 2 Eberstein Trct
Zip: 14549
Phone: 585-237-3346
City: Silver Lake

Additional Info
LastName: Krause Marshall
FirstName: Marshall
LabelName: Marshall Krause
YPHCCode:
Address Number: 2
Secondary Name:
Address Suffix:
Address Street: Eberstein Trct

NOTE/DISCLAIMER: This may not be the actual person(s) involved.

2008-07-04 15:52:33 UTCChris

I hope the FBI does track this. I got the same email and if I wasn't a software developer by trade and knew how to recognize it as spam I would be concerned. I don't like the fact that my first name was used, easy of course since it is part of my email address but the sender either took the time to write a program that inserts a name at the begining of the email or they are doing it by hand. The Server this email came from is at 6079 War Admiral Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32234. The phone number is a New York area code but they are cell phone numbers so not traceable except by the carrier who issued them.
