I got an email from this Timothy guy offering heroine, cocaine and other things. I know it's a matter of time before he gets nabbed. Some people just need to be eliminated. period. they make our world a garbage bin.

Does anyone here post on Craigslist? The account this email was sent to does not have my personal info in it. I dont use my name or real addy. I use a grave yard postal (Zip) code for all my email accounts. lol But this email had my name in it. The only place I can think of that has this email addy and my real name is Craigslist.

I recieved the same email on the fourth!
I hate that my first name was used and its not in my email address... creeps me out!

Also got this message on the fourth, and it came to my hotmail account that I use ONLY for job seeking (Monster, Biospace, etc).

We received both emails on the 4th...we reported it to our local police department who all but laughed it off. He said they would look into it but that basically, nobody ever follows up on these things. That's reassuring!

Personally, given the fact we're in a forum discussing how our hacked personal information got into the wrong hands, resulting in a hoax email containing a death threat, I wouldn't send an email to any email address randomly posted in a newsgroup!

I got the email too. I'm on bellsouth.net, I do not have a facebook accout. I do have a monster account and that's the email address I received the email from Timothy. It's definately monster. I remember they were hacked a few months ago. Class action suit against monster!

I got the same email that said he was going to kill me. I am from the UK and just got back from a weekend away, it seriously scared me and thankful i found this website to calm my nerves. I will be reporting it to my local police station tomorrow though. The only site i have in common with everyone on here is monster.com so i agree it must have been from there. I just hope i sleep ok tonight, it shakes you to think there are such sick people out there!!

he uses different phone number every time in his email. i got this message and i live in the netherlands.
i reported this email as mail terror on cybercrime.

I also got this email on the 4th. It was put in SPAM, sent to my Yahoo address. I also have a Monster account. I rarely get spam to this email account as I hold it very private. I have reported this to the Internet Crime department with the FBI. I included full headers of the email, I have also printed the email and full headers. Keep the hard copy records. Has someone gotten an attorney so that we can contact Monster yet?

I also received both emails, but they were addressed to my husband and sent to my email address. That is scary, how did they know my husbands name. I too have reported this to the FBI and am in the process of reporting this to my local authorities. Also, they are not trying to sell you drugs, they just want your money.
They need to be stopped, because some unsuspecting person who is not aware can possibly have a heart attack over this or lose their life savings. The person or persons involved are sick and need to be sent away for a long time.

Hackers have turned the harvesting of personal information from Monster.com and other large US jobsites into a lucrative black market business

A Russian gang called Phreak has created an online tool that extracts personal details from CVs posted onto sites including Monster.com, AOL Jobs, Ajcjobs.com, Careerbuilder.com, Careermag.com, Computerjobs.com, Hotjobs.com, Jobcontrolcenter.com, Jobvertise.com and Militaryhire.com. As a result the personal information (names, email addresses, home addresses and current employers) on hundreds of thousands of jobseakers has been placed at risk, according to net security firm PrevX.

I got this message too, except it had the phone number of a "neighbor" to call and say a password. When I did reverse lookup of the phone number, it is registered to a legitimate person in New York. I filed a report with the police department.

Received the same email on my work address. Contacted our legal dept. They are investigating.

I too received the e-mail on July 4th and I'm in Canada and I too had an acct. with Monster. Am now trying to figure out how the heck to delete it although I suppose it's a little late for that. I did received the same email and knew it was a hoax but did not like the idea of him knowing my full name. After reading all of this I deactivated my account through monster and reported the information to the FBI. I feel Monster should be held responsible for all of this.

I wouldn't have replied to the idiot at all. Now he knows someone will be after him. That is probably why the phones are not working. By the way, when you call his phone he will most likely have caller ID so now he has your email (that obviously works, full name (Caller ID) and phone number (Caller ID)). He can get your address just with your phone number. I deleted my old email account anyway since I haven't used it in about 2 years.

The best thing you can do is to give the email to the local police and report it. He actually left some key parts out of the original email such as that he has his "friends" watching you now. This scam seemed to start in Russia and it sounds like people received this kind of scam before from overseas (especially Nigerian) email addresses. (I had some time to research this scam since it affected me on 4 July).

I also talked to my brother who is a retired police officer of 30 years. Generally if someone has a contract to kill you, you are done. The killer will not negotiate fearing his own life and reputation.

I got the same email however mine had a 315 number to call which just happens to be my same area code. Set an alarm off but i wasnt too worried because I have a small arsenal of weapons. Oh well thought maybe I would have a little fun to spice up my life.

It has to be Monster! I do have gmail, but not everyone who received this e-mail does. I do still get job recommendations from Career Builder and Monster.

Received this fourth of July email as well. I live and do business in the 315 area code so at first it was a little scary. A huge weight was lifted from my shoulders in seeing this email. Please also file compliant at ic3.gov . THIS IS NOT FUNNY! I hope they catch him for doing this.

Helping a friend who received this same threat. Just want to remind every one to be sure and include FULL headers when reporting this to law enforcement. By having full headers from multiple messages, they will be able to see patterns that are not apparent in only a single message.

I got both e-mails one on 4th and one on 5th, I reported this to local police. Sounds like this guy thinks he's like santa clause if he can kill us all for not complying. It seems like it's happening all over the world and for my world I can not understand the reason behind this at all.

Just curious how the emails are addressed. For some of us, it is just our first name, and for some others it is their full name. Wonder where the sender picked the name from, because on Monster, I have my full name listed, and yet this email is addressed to me by my first name!

Yes, I have a resume posted in Monster and Careerbuilder, but I got the message through Gmail. I just really hope this person will be caught at some point. And if this e-mail has been circulating for over a year now, I think it's ridiculous that people keeps forwarding or sending it to others! Threating is serious stuff!

I'm so pissed, when I read it my stomach started to cramp really bad! I just had a family member in Mexico that almost went through the same thing and they went really far as to been able to fake the voice of a cousin (living in U.S.) and ask for money to my aunt in Mexico. This person even called her every day over the phone!

Then they faked "my cousin" was in trouble and needed money to be deposited in a bank account. Thank God they found out it was all a scam but my aunt had a anxiety attack! When I got this e-mail I almost got one too! What an asshole!

Check out fbi.gov. This scam as we have learned has been around for awhile, and in various forms. I gather it is being checked already by various law enforcement agencies. A report can be filled out at: ic3.gov and the FBI will act on it. IMO scams are bad enough but something like that could be dangerous to an unwary and sick recipient. I really want to know what finally happens to the turd! Happy Independence Day, eh? :)

I'm just glad I did a little surfing and found this website as I work in law enforcement and I'm sure I've pissed plenty of people off to want to hurt myself or my family. I do not have a Gmail account and it was sent to a netzero account, I do concur that this person got the information from Monster.com as it is the only website we all agree to have had an account at one point or another and I do remember receiving an email from Monster a year or so ago saying that they had been hacked and that personal information had been released.
After contacting the Police Depatment in Baldwinsville, NY ( number that was listed in the email was 585 678 2840, which resulted coming from upstate NY) and my local police department in MI, I almost feel stupid now.

The 585-237-3346 number is from Perry, NY. I called the police department there but 3 people already beat me to it.

The FBI needs to catch who did this and Monster needs to pay.

I called various FBI agencies. Omaha blew me off and DC was a great help. I also called the local police. I was freaked out this morning for about 1/2 hour. Usually I can tell spam; however, for the same reasons above, I didn't realize it was a SPAM. It just didn't make sense to kill me and list a phone number. Odd. I would love it if attorneys and a class action law suite was created. I just don't think the clown will be caught as is with the infamous Nigerian scams.

The numbers used were both 585-991-3301 and 585-237-3346. I didn't find anything useful through whois or hmndnsgrp.com. When I checked the site the html was empty and only displayed a blank page. I am also on Monster since a couple years now.

I agree with the 'finding an attorney' comment. I too am on Monster and, come to think of it, it would be the only site where my full name is associated with the email address that this email was sent too. Not happy. I can only imagine the slew of crap I'm going to start recieving at this address now that this individual has this information to give to anyone.

It really freaked me out until I started doing some web searching and realized that it was certainly a scam. I've had a monster.com account for several years, so it's good to at least know the likely source - thanks everyone for your input. Someone has to have a negative zero social life and be a complete moron to send out something like this to get attention.

Yes, I got the same E-mail this morning from the Coward, Timothy Killer. I called the first phone number, 585-991-3301, and it was a disconnected Verizon number. I tried the other number, 585-237-3346 and a Guy with a foriegn accent answered "Hello, Hello), but never said a word to the idiot.

I too recieved an email from this person and like several others here I also have an resume on monster but have not used it for a long time. I live in Md so evidently he or she sent quite a few emails out. This one was sent to my employer email address and they too are looking into it

My daughters ex father in law is a cop and he has been harassing me and I thought it might be him, you never know, but I am glad (not happy) to know it was not sent to just me, I am sorry so many other people have been scared like me.

I forwarded each email to the appropriate host, and have heard from the host of the first email. They said that an account was hacked, and they have shut it down. That explains why the email came from a second host....let's see what they have to say.

However i notcied something else, I am not very technical and know next to nothing about the way email are recieved but I did notice that quite often the emails show in the To: mine and my husbands name, sometimes just the email address itself but when I get one from facebook, it states my full name, first second and last, this is how the email come from scary Tim, in the To: it stated my full name. Does this mean anything......I have checked and my email from other sources never have my full name on the To: only facebook and scary tim???

I was thinking monster.com also because they used my brother-in-law's full name in this message that was sent to my email address. And monster.com is the only system I can think of where I have my email address associated with my brother-in-law's full name.

I have my resume on careerbuilder. Monster is the only online job engine I dont use. I should though...lol Well hell with it I sent him an email trying to get his attention and now I am going to get drunk and play with fireworks. In Gmail, you can open the email, click on the arrow next to the "Reply" button, and select "show original". It will show the detailed header of the message, where u will see the ip.

I received this email this morning and yeah it did catch me off guard but after several searches on the internet it turned out that this idiot is trying to copycat a death threat scam in 2007 to try and grab personal information for identity theft but since the phone number is bogus, its just a sick joke. The funny part is that they usually get caught cause they always take more risks.

I received this email too..on my gmail account. It did creep me out for a second, but then being a software person, I recognized this as a spam! Kelly, u might be on to something..even I had used this email account for job sites! I hope the authorities track down the perpetrator soon.

The mailings I see most in my box are from Monster, Jobs Online and SnagaJob...also from the transportation security administration website. He also used my addy on military.com as well.

Unfortunately for Timothy, he has threatened someone involved in a serious Federal drug case. This was picked up by the US Marshall's and is now part of DEA/AFT/FBI investigation on terrorizing, threatening, and intimidation involving a certain case. Boy, what rotten luck... or is truly justice!

Not nice, I did a 411 reverse look up on the number given and the search came up with the name, John Campbell of Baldwinsville, NY, who is also listed as having two other phone numbers at the same address. Any way this is the message I got, I know its crap but its still not nice.

Are all recipients of this email gmail users? I got it today too in my gamil but it has my husband's name on it. Since to my knowledge he only used my email addy on job related websites, I'd say that's where the list came from.

I too received both emails, and as a savvy web user recognized both as a spam/scam/hoax email...HOWEVER, there are a couple of things that really got me concerned. #1: This wasn't simply writing a script that inserted a persons first name. My first name isn't in my email. Therefore, I have to assume this person bought a list somewhere...I'm guessing it's Facebook. #2: The second email seriously crossed the line from the usual spam/scam email. I sent the first email to the RCMP (I'm Canadian), and was about to get more serious with the second, until reading the postings here. I will, however, be contacting google and the two hosting companies in an effort to get them to do the right thing and contact the FBI on their own. Also, I believe that if this person is found, they should be publicly identified, and they should have to pay restitution to all that received their emails. Anybody else agree?

I got this email two hours ago and called my local police a half hour later. Joke or no joke, it's creepy - to say the least. Police officer just stopped by and he asked me to print a copy of the email... he left with the copy and said he's going to call that 315-678-2789 phone number himself. I hope this jerk gets in some serious trouble. Said it looks like spam to him, but he will be forwarding all this to the Cyber Crimes unit. The police officer said it's, at the very least, a misdemeanor.

I just got the same email from a TimothyStuffKiller@gmail.com account. I too checked the number 315 678 1644 and its listd in upstate NY. Unfortunately, I live in upstate NY so it was a bit unsettling until I read all of the below. If anyone thinks there is any thing I can do to help get this person caught, please advise, as this kind of stuff is just so uncool.

The email's content is felony mail fraud and will be taken seriously by federal authorities. If the perpetrator successfully eludes capture, we can look forward to more threats in our inboxes.

If he eludes the police he can construct and distribute Internet kits describing how to perform mail fraud and remain at large.

Folks, for whatever reason this spammer used the phone number of a real person who has no connection at all with this message. I kept calling until someone picked up and the poor woman has no idea what is going on. I have directed her to this page so she has an understanding of the situation. My guess is that the scammer has guessed their voicemail or answering machine remote retrieval password and was hoping that they were out of town for the 4th and could pick up a bunch of voicemails from frightened people later in the day.

Just ignore and delete the message. Don't bother calling the number as the hapless person on the other end of the line has no idea what is going on and has already contacted law enforcement. There have been variants of this circulating for some time. See:

The e-mail address that he/she contacted me on is only used for FINANCIAL-related contacts. There is rarely any activity on this particular account (including spam).

Myspace, Facebook, Online orders, and other internet activity is all done with a seperate E-mail account.

I just received this as well to my gmail account. Looking at the header info, it looks as if it was routed through apple.com according to one IP address referenced. Burton Hosting is based in the UK, so I notified the authorities at the IWF who will look into it. I work in the community so I will be following this closely. I don't take kindly to this type of threat.

One question he did ask me was if I am on Facebook, cuz that is where this Timothy could have gotten the information from. I am...so I can't rule that out. But normally I never have my first and last name anywhere, it is not in my email address. So facebook could be an option. But I remember some guy tried to buy something of me online and said he was from Texas and wanted to buy something for his son who lives in south africa, and wanted me to send it there, he would pay me through a Money order online thing, something like Pay Pal but it asn't that, it was called different. I didn't fall for his scam, but I wanted to see how far I can take it. and I did give him my name and mailing address, but I thought what the hell, many people can find out my name and mailing address, so I didn't think anything of it. Did anyone have any sort of interaction at all? Anyway the number he left me was 315-678-2840 (did anybody call the number?) He must have many neighbors.

To avoid these spams please make sure to clear all of your "cookies" so other websites don't gather information from your computer, and also if spams like this persist try changing your email, because it is not always easy to block them all.

Apparently it's a variation on a theme/con that seems to have started in Russia back in 1998 - yeah he was paid to kill (insert name) but will accept a pay-off from you hence awaiting the call. The originals according to scops, cnet, et al, ask for an amount up front. Considering this is a felony I really do hope law enforcement does its job and this person goes away for a long time.

We received this message today (7/4/2008) and I can tell you that the area code is Western New York State, near Rochester. The address in the Timothystuff email is Perry, NY, just south of Rochester. The webpage and various forms of the name do not exist.

No arms or drug dealer would be stupid enough to randomly broadcast information like that. Even if the information weren't traceable, the authorities could easily perform a sting operation in the event of a real transaction being arranged.

It's not the fact that someone created an email that personalizes the name or threatens people that bothers me... it's that someone actually went out of his way and took the time to make this. Talk about no life. My cousin is the sheriff of Monroe County, and he'll be hearing about this. I'm sure he has connections in Wyoming County. Trust me... some little prankster is going to be knee-deep in trouble really soon.

I too am a software developer....and know how to trace these things. This is obviously a 4th of July scam in bad taste and a threatning manner. I hope the FBI do trace or find the party responsible for the misuse of internet and people's email. I hope the FBI does track this. I got the same email and if I wasn't a software developer by trade and knew how to recognize it as spam I would be concerned. I don't like the fact that my first name was used, easy of course since it is part of my email address but the sender either took the time to write a program that inserts a name at the begining of the email or they are doing it by hand. The Server this email came from is at 6079 War Admiral Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32234. The phone number is a New York area code but they are cell phone numbers so not traceable except by the carrier who issued them.
