Comment on calls from 555-000-0000

Its just a research company trying to get you to complete a survey

2010-10-15 04:23:09 UTCS.

Called at 9:15pm and after answering, the line was silent for about 5 seconds. We had been receiving calls from this number for about a week and I had pretty much had it. The girl on the line was so nice that I felt guilty laying into her, so I took her quick survey of three questions regarding prop. 19 for CA, legalizing marijuana. Hopefully the calls will stop now.

2010-10-12 08:14:16 UTCStefan

For those of you who have ATT, there is a feature called "Call Screening". IF you have this feature you can dial *60 and block this number or any other harassing call.

2010-10-12 07:55:30 UTCMichael

The party called at 8:02 PM tonight 10/11/10, and there was silence at the end of the line when I picked up the phone. My Caller ID stated "Unavailable 555-000-0000." I am on the "No Call" list and my message clearly states I won't take calls from telemarketers. This is the first time I have been contacted by this party. What's their reason for calling me?

2010-09-28 02:40:05 UTCLinda

The calls started about an hour ago it/they were calling every 10 minutes until we put the answeing machine on, I hope that takes care of it. They come in as unknown calls and no one says anything.

2010-09-24 01:38:41 UTCKC

Called at 9:36pm - isn't that a bit past the hours allowed for telemarketers??

2010-09-21 01:05:23 UTCfeddup withit

This number calls twice a day early in the morning and late at night. I am highly fed up with it so I reported it with the Annoyance call bureau. You can press *57 after they call you. For more information see this link www22.verizon.com

17 Sep 2010 -- 3:52 pm -- no messsage left. Caller ID said "Unknown name".

2010-09-17 05:13:11 UTCBoring OR

I saw a number reading the comments and if anyone has Verizon (now Frontier), you can call 888-637-9625 which is the UNLAWFUL CALL CENTER and file a complaint. They are open from 9am to 5pm, Monday thru Friday. I'm calling them tomorrow morning and also ask they put a free block on that number.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE OLD VERIZON NUMBER OF 1-800-257-2969 HAS CHANGED TO FRONTIER COMM 1-888-637-9625

2010-09-17 05:00:25 UTCBoring OR

Yesterday, I made the mistake of picking up the phone before looking at the caller ID and after saying hello and then saw the number, I hung up. It usually means it's a random computer generated call for telemarketing . Because of my mistake yesterday, today, they have called @ 6:15pm, 8:19pm, 8:48pm & 9:29pm (09/16/10).

The only reason I'm writing this is because I was getting into my phone account to put a block on it... if I can.

These assholes call me every fucking day of the week. Sometimes twice-per-day.

2010-09-08 00:20:55 UTCTobi

They call 4-5 times a week, but there is never anyone there. Dead silence. Not only creepy, but infuriating.

2010-09-03 02:07:27 UTCFairbanks AK

Multiple calls this week, including four in two hours today!

2010-08-31 23:44:47 UTCMark Valentine

How can I block this call?

2010-08-31 20:28:09 UTCDeb Toy

Recieved many calls. Tried answering but no one is there. Called...8:16, 8:47, 9:26, 9:28, 9:31, 9:49, 9:50, 9:53, 10:27. All in one evening. Had to turn answering machine off.

2010-08-22 18:45:37 UTCAsf

I'm going to push talk and lay the phone in front of the TV speaker for about an hour, maybe I can tie up the line on their end./

this number has been calling several times a night for several nights. Each time, they ask for either me or my wife by name. We have been asking them to stop calling. the second time they called this evening, I actually engaged the caller in discussion. she said she was calling from ADG, American Directions. She also said she has a way to report our number to go on their DNC list. The fact that we've been asking repeatedly makes me think that they simply ignore this list. She said she was calling from her home, and that she thinks she was calling for a political survey/issues in my area. she tried to contact her supervisor via IM, but the supervisor was apparently not available.

2010-08-06 21:56:20 UTCDeb in WI

I was on the phone but saw this come up on caller ID. Did not leave a voicemail, can not return the call. I have no idea who it is but if it is a political survey, I may just take the survey so I can figure out who NOT to vote for.

2010-08-04 02:00:22 UTCbaltimore

This number has called 3 times in the last hour and a half. Two calls last night. Finally picked up. Asked for my wife and stated from First Media Services about a survey. A quick search on the web proved that this is a fake name as well. FYI, when a number is spoofed like this it is nearly impossible to find out who the caller is so there could be many different entities using this spoofed number.

2010-07-31 01:59:02 UTCmartha

yes when you invade my home all the time. I work at home I don't have time to play twenty questions with you and be nice. Nice would be when someone calmly asked to be removed from the list and a hour later I get another call. You don't play nice or you would be calling at all hours or repeatedly. Other peopole have responsible jobs that don't annoy the @*&# out of people

RE:RshAsst
And a hint: We're not monsters, we're still people. Niceness goes both ways, just try to understand that we're only doing our jobs! If you're one of the nice people that I call, and are willing to participate in the survey, it'll make it go by a LOT quicker if you just answer the questions as we would like you to answer, and of course keep a sense of humor, too! ;)

2010-07-31 01:54:26 UTCMartha

Dear RschAsst

when some one say do not call again it is time to not call. I solved my problem I do not answer UNKNOWN, NAME NOT FOUND, BLOCKED or fake numbers. So Call away you are not getting anyone here!!!

2010-07-30 16:22:09 UTCLouise Nell

Call came at 10:30 p.m.

2010-07-29 21:29:22 UTCGordon

Hung up as soon as it hit my answering machine.

2010-07-21 15:42:14 UTCIdiotscallingus

Forgot to mention that from researching an 888 number one poster said that they were told to call, this is Chase Bank Collection Services or CBCS. Google 888-772-4172.

2010-07-21 15:12:58 UTCIdiotscallingus

What a line of crap from the person claiming to be a survey taker! That just proves what a bunch of liars these people are. This call came in to me at 10:00 P.M. - way past the hour of respectable (and legal) calling limits. Anyone who works for a company that uses fake caller I.D.'s and calls at times that are specific to bother someone is a low life and should be procecuted along with their company.

2010-07-18 00:42:23 UTCRon

Starting to get calls like crazy from these idiots too! If they want us to think they are 'nice' people they clearly are not. Even that comment left by that freak company it is like "be nice to us or else it will go badly for you", but that is there intention anyway. It's like being kidnapped and held at bay by these people to do whatever they want. There has to be a way to nail these jerks. This is nothing short of criminal harassment.

2010-07-17 03:08:51 UTCgrandma

Starting getting calls a few days ago. Multiple calls each day...just had call #4 (today)a minute ago.
Wish I had their home phone # so I could give them a taste of their own medicine! SOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying!

2010-07-16 01:17:36 UTCradiowidow

To RschAsst: If your company must spoof a fake number on caller id, you are obviously not legit. I would be leary working for a company that has to lie.

2010-06-30 03:53:01 UTCTrixie

Verizon has an Unlawful Call Center that you can contact if you have Verizon. Everyone with Verizon needs to report this number so that Verizon will look into this criminal and annoying behavior.
1-800-257-2969.
Also, the FTC and the National Do Not Call Registry should be contacted. They may be the same agency but reporting has been different. I do both when a caller becomes a problem.

2010-06-30 03:47:06 UTCPGBT

I can't believe that these criminals are such COWARDS ! ! ! ! Hiding behind unidentified names and bogus phone numbers. They are doing this because they know they are breaking the law and will get in trouble if caught. Please, anyone who actually speaks to them, get a name and/or number for FTC and National Do Not Call Registry and file complaints.
I have received 5 calls in less than a week. So far, all hang-ups and missed calls.....I don't know if I should answer and get their name or just keep ignoring them.
I do suspect they are collections because I have had this number for 6 months and collections are calling for Daniel, Richard, Jamie and Christine.....I am none of those people. I am ready to request a new number from Verizon.

2010-06-27 21:50:37 UTCKat

I didn't answer when this number called, but my housemate did. He said they purported to be some kind of survey. He hung up on them. An hour later we got a call from 703-5478680 (from Reston VA according to caller id) that were the same people. Again he hung up on them. Isn't it remarkable how many new "surveys" cropped up after the Do Not Call list took effect. I don't know who these jerks are, but just ignore them. Anybody who hides their id is up to no good.

@RschAsst:

FUCK YOU. I don't have to answer ANYTHING to "make it easier", nor do I have to have a "sense of humor" about you assclowns calling my home several times a day. Keep it up, and I'll report your aqss to the FCC.

2010-06-07 21:57:23 UTCEllen

This is the first call I've gotten from this number. As usual with unknown names, I let it go to the answering machine. Callers usually hang up at that point, but this one left a message "Hello?" How do you get the caller's number to show as 555 000 0000?

2010-05-20 16:36:34 UTCCall Reporter

Left a message directing to call 888-772-4172 extension 1. (I declined to do so.)

2010-05-17 17:33:32 UTCJAB

First of all there is no such area code as 555, You only see it in movies 555-555-5555, Who ever they have to be doing robo calls and as soon as someone anwsers you get some indian trying to sell you something credit carde etc. If you do not anwser it and it gos to your anwsering machine they hang up within 2 seconds. Bottom line do not anwser 555 calls

calls every few hours every day all day I never pick up they never leave a message I am on the no call list and will fill out a complaint if they do not stop making me get up out of my chair

2010-05-12 02:44:21 UTCRon

They called about five times this evening and no one else on the other end. Is this one of those scams to get you to call back to a foreign number, so they can charge you $1000 per minute? I don't know?????

2010-05-01 15:16:02 UTCC

You're wrong, RschAsst! I did the survey two days ago after getting three calls from your number and today I got two more calls from the same number. So just because I did the survey doesn't mean you won't call me for a while. I am going to do what you say and stay on the line longer because I keep hanging up because no one is there. And when I get someone on the line I am going to let 'em have it!

2010-04-27 19:01:41 UTCTickedAtRsch

555-000-0000 is a spoofed phone number. You can't call back, you can't find out who it is so you can't file a complaint. They don't want to know who they are so they don't get the same annoying harrassing calls from pissed off people.

STOP CALLING.

RschAsst - I really don't care if it is your job - if you would identify yourself and the company you work for, maybe just maybe people will talk to you. And if we don't want to give ANY information out - accept it and move on and STOP CALLING the same people when they say they are not interested. IT IS HARRASSMENT!

2010-04-16 01:46:45 UTCRschAsst

I understand that people hate these calls for the most part, and unfortunately, the shifts that we're required to work DO happen to make us call around dinner-time/putting-kids-to-bed-time. I'd like to give you all some info on how you can work with us to stop receiving calls, unless you like giving your opinion :P

1. If we ask for a specific person but you're not he/she, we can't put "Refusal" if YOU say they're not interested. That's a falsification, and I would lose my job. Just pass the phone to the individual we ask for so they can tell us, then we can remove the number from our database.

2. How do we get your number? Voter registry (Usually), which is public, even if it's unlisted. It's okay to say "Could you take our number off your calling list?" If you say that, then the call will be coded appropriately. However, there's no guarantee that another research firm won't get your number from the Voter registry again. OR another option, is to go through the survey, And then we don't have to call you again for a while (But, again, that's if you like giving your opinions).

3. It's not US dialing your number. We have an automatic dialer, and unfortunately, if we code a call as "Unavailable" it will keep calling according to it's own schedule, which is (For lack of a better word) sporadic and rather...Aggressive...None of us can control HOW often your number is dialed. I really hate that part.

4. The Do Not Call List: You may be under the impression that because you have registered your phone number with the Do Not Call Registry, that you will never receive a call from anyone you don't know again. That's not entirely correct. When you put your number on the DNC, that ONLY bans telephone solicitors from calling you. Organizations who are exempt from the National DNC are listed at this address: telemarketing.donotcall.gov

5. Nobody's on the line! >_< Sorry about that, our system can be slow, and since we have an automatic dialer, we don't actually hear it ring. It automatically connects us (Or tries to) When the line is picked up. If there's "Nobody on the line," then the best thing you can do is wait a few more seconds than you normally would, and that will give us a chance to get connected via the dialer, and then to you!

6. Our phone number...? I honestly don't know it, since I've never received a call from my work asking me to do a survey. I'm pretty sure that would be a conflict of interest anyway? I don't know, but I can't answer any questions about our phone number, specifically. Sorry :(

7. Screening for Males/Females: We only do that when our quota for one gender or the other is closed. Usually the quota for females closes first, because (naturally) Women like to give their opinions to us than Men :P So we're not trying to be creepy if we ask for "A registered MALE Voter..." it just means that we can't take any more answers from women. And vice versa.

8. We're harmless, I promise. We're not out to get Credit Card or Debit card or Check numbers, we will NEVER ask for ANY type of personally identifiable information, the most we will EVER have is your first and last name, and MAYBE your address, IF our client needs us to verify that it's up to date with the Voter registry. We don't sell anything, we don't (Individually) keep your phone numbers, and again: We will never Ever EVER ask for anything BUT your opinions! If you get a call from a "Research Assistant," and they ask you for ANY personal info (i.e. SSN, Bank Account numbers, Credit/Debit Card numbers, Donations, Contributions, etc), then a good idea would be to gather as much information about THEM as possible (Name, Company name, Company phone number, etc), and either call up that company's head honcho (Assuming that it would be a legit research agency. If not, then follow plan B next) OR contact your local authorities and report it to them.

And a hint: We're not monsters, we're still people. Niceness goes both ways, just try to understand that we're only doing our jobs! If you're one of the nice people that I call, and are willing to participate in the survey, it'll make it go by a LOT quicker if you just answer the questions as we would like you to answer, and of course keep a sense of humor, too! ;)

2010-03-23 18:51:17 UTCSharon

Didn't answer the first 10 times or so they called. I finally answered and was asked to take a survey said no & they called back again the next two days .

2010-03-16 19:11:24 UTCSonja

This was Constant Contact email marketing company. I went through their list of questions. They basically wanted to know if my home based business bought lists or used email marketing. I asked them to take me off their list upon conclusion. I was nice, he was nice, I just have no need for the service.

2010-03-08 22:38:17 UTCpaleolith

Caller identified by name. Said call was for a survey by American Directions Group (ADG), in Spokane WA. Said she would put me on THEIR no call list but could only pass on my request that they honor national and Florida no-call lists.

Called at 2:30 pm. Due to the obviously spoofed caller ID, did not answer.

This has shown up on my caller ID for over a week, with multiple daily calls. On 3/4/10 the last of 3 calls was at 9:35pm!! Would love to report this outfit to someone.

This number just called me and claimed to be a "national research agency" and they wanted a male living in the house. Creepy!

Very annoying. Just started today, and have called twice so far. No one there when I answer. Obviously spoofing their number, as 555 is a 'dead' area code - reserved for directory assistance applications. Therefore they are criminals. If they ever answer, I plan to string them along for as much time waste as possible without giving them any information. If I find out what company it is, I will harass them back.

I picked up the call promptly but nobody answered, just a buzzing sound; then it wouldn't break the connection so it tied up our phones for hours.

Research firm. Left a message to call 888-249-7440 and ask for Kelly. Not gonna do it...wouldn't be prudent.

2 calls in 2 days one at 8:45 pm, another at 8:50 pm, No reply when I answered the phone

These calls started but are daily. Who are these people?

2010-01-29 01:21:11 UTCmary

this appears to be an illegal use of phone services. This number does not register and the caller is calling at all times. Is there an agency that this can be reported?

Why are all the responders utc? Thatq questions me

I just got this call, and can't figure out who this is either. I did not answer it but I saw on another website that a lady posted that the exact number was a census being taken. Still you'd think that they'd have something better come up on caller ID

Who the hell is this? Can't block it because Comcast's call screening feature doesn't recognise it. Can't call them back, either. They call all hours of the night but there is nobody on the other end of the line. Anyone know who these people are, and how to get rid?

No message, when I call this # back.."Verizon something or other & then it asks for "what city & state".

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
