How do I stop them from calling?
- Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
- If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
- Block them with a call blocker:
Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

At first thought it was a relative from Quebec, waited for them to leave a message before I picked up, but left none. Checked my personal list of phone numbers, but no family members with that number. Started calling three days ago, about three times a day. Called yesterday, Saturday, at 17:53. Called again this morning, SUNDAY OF ALL DAYS, at 09:29. I refuse to pick up if it is not important enough to show caller name, AND ESPECIALLY IF THEY DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE! How long with they persist!
after asking if I was the "man of the house", they asked for my first name, which I wouldn't give stating I did not want someone to call asking for me as if they actually know me. The marketer stated he did not get credit for the call if he did not get my name...... I played his little game for twenty minutes, not giving any answers he could use and arguing every point. I wasted his time for quite a while before he gave up...lol
Opinion Search is still calling about twice per month, despite asking them to take me out of their database. I originally asked them to remove me back in March 2008 (search or scroll down to see my earlier post).
Since then, I've had them blocked. Doesn't seem to be any other alternative.
only called three times today and no one anwsers
This company calls at all hours. Either a pushy surveyor, or no one at the end of the line. Very irritating! Just hang up on these jerks!
PLEASE I WANNA KNOW WHO CALLED ME

This number called at dinner time this evening. It is frustrating when they will not even leave people alone at meal time (on Sunday).
I got a call just now appearing to come from this number. I answered and after a noticeable delay a man calling himself "Jerry" spoke. He said his company is "Opinion Research" calling "on behalf of the federal government." I didn't realize that he was calling from a Quebec area code. He wanted to speak to someone aged 25 to 69 years. I told him I was older and he said that his company's computer would call again in half an hour--whether I wanted it to or not.
The Caller ID said "OPINION SEARCH".
This number just called me and when I told the woman I was on the do-not-call list she just kept yapping away so I finally hung up on her rather abruptly.
This number cannot be blocked by my call screen service. When I phoned them I was told it was about research.
got call from this number but no body answered
The caller asked me if I would participate in a survey on energy, oil and gas. The conversation was recorded. The questions presented obviously were set up to find out if I believed the mainstream news about the tragedy in the Gulf, what my political views were, my level of education and income. Some questions were obvious invasions of privacy and did not get answered. Questions like whether I lean Democrat or Republican got met with answer: Both are corrupt. The wealthy elites want to know just how effective their propaganda machine is. Question the questions, my friends! See InfoWars.com
The national pandemic of telephone terrorism perpetrated by desperate criminal collection agencies is because they are trying to terrorize people who are naive enough to answer and submit to unsolicited telephone calls or written "collection" letters that have no legitimate legal debt associated with them or any of the companies, universities, or whomever else they claim to represent. Because most "little guys" were bankrupted by the criminal Wall St/Congress/Big Oil/Big Business/Military robber barrons, so the desperate collection agencies are attempting to collect unpaid debts from innocent people by terrorizing them into submission.
Word of advice. NEVER answer any calls you don't recognize or are not expecting. Use selective call rejection service if available, or switch to an Internet-based telephone service which provides comprehensive call rejection options. If rogue calls become chronic, turn off all the ringers on all of your phones except one, and set its volume to the minimum setting. If you don't answer the call and the caller is legitimate, they will usually leave a voicemail after the first or second try. Rogue callers never leave voicemail messages because that could be used as evidence against them if it came to a lawsuit. If you receive a rogue letter in the mail warning you of some "collection" action against you, if you don't actually owe it, reply with a short letter stating that you don't owe it, you've never done any business with them of any kind, and you expect the collection agency to close the matter, stop harrassing you and take any bad credit marks they've caused off of your credit rating, and furthermore, that any further contact from them must be in writing and signed on their official business correspondence letterhead. Send your letter to them a.s.a.p., always within thirty days, first class certified mail return receipt requested. If they refuse it and you get the letter back unopened, leave it unopened and save it in your files as evidence against them should they pursue legal action against you. If they did receive it and continue to pursue action against you, let them. The judge will throw it out of court. Warn all your friends about this rash of desperate collection agency terrorism, and how to combat it.
Above all, keep a record of everything, of every rogue call w/ caller ID information displayed including time and day of each call. Maintain a complete file on any snail-mailed intimidation from rogue collection agencies, including copies of all correspondences and postal receipts.

I had two calls tonight.
One at 9h36PM and another one at 10h24PM.
I thought that telemarking was supposed to stop calling after 9h00PM?????
Apparently telemarketing. They've called my cell, my home, and just called my office while I was out. Same number, no message. Crossing the line now, calling me at work?!!
Since this company is located in Canada and are subject to Canadian law, I highly suggest that their polls be conducted ONLY in Canada, not in the USA. We have enough problems with US based telemarketers!

@AJ:
The reason he/she asked you for only your level of education, age and income level was because these are the qualification questions. If you do not provide an income level, they can't do the survey.
thye called me several times, after a while they stopped caling
You can spam their staff.
opinionsearch.com
My wife answered the call because she has relatives in Quebec, and the caller asked her to let him "speak with the male of the house".
said nothing when i answered then hung up
These stupid bastards think I will talk to Unknown Name but not to their real idenity. They are wrong on the first part and correct on the second part. My caller box gives all these bastards a phone company "this is a non working number"! Get your self one if everyone had a box like this the bastards would have to get a decent job!

They called at 10 am on Sunday morning and didn't leave a message.
I went to their site and they have this link to remove your number. I did it and it states once completed that they will not call me again for a survey. FYI
opinionsearch.com?
3 calls so far within approx an hour
Survey
I just finish doing a survey for home depot, (homedepot.com) and not even 2 hrs after this # call (514-288-0420) and after researching the # I also found this web sit opinionsearch.com .. so my guest is if you ever fill out a survey that was attach to your receipt, the call will start. hopefully they wont call me as often as what I see her
These people are the scumb bags. Consider starting a site to accept collections to hire someone to "help them out of business" I'm sure they are sack sweat...
I've probably gotten calls from this company in the past, I regularly get calls where there is no one on the line.
This time I was not at home and they left a 2-3 minute long message of silence. I could hear talking in the background (other calls happening I think) as well as breathing it was very strange.
I called it back since it's local for me and its just some public reasearch firm. Apparently.
My family has been receiving calls from these 2 numbers all afternoon (Sun.6/8/08) The 2 numbers appearing on our caller I.D. are 514-288-0420 and 613-230-2890. First call I answered and they wanted to speak to the youngest member of our family, they hung up after I ask who was speaking. The rest of the calls have hung up as soon as I answered...............Extremely, annowing. Who are these people? I have traced the calls to
Montreal,PQ and Attawahull, ON. Because of 2 of them coming up on my computer Call Alert.
When returned call, message said it was a public research development group out of Quebec Canada --- did not give an option to be put on do not call list.
No message, just a hang-up after about 10 seconds of silence.
Poor Yawn: Quite clearly unable to accept information as knowledge and disregards the fact in the above "Sermon" Yes, it may be - but sermons provide the terrain that permits you to look at things and analyze and then, perhaps, grow and move on. Calling someone a survey flunky is quite obviously someone who just fails to want to deal with the fact that if you don't say "please put your number on a list to not be called back" it will get called back. Name calling is not the issue my little thinker. Ooops. People have all different reasons for working in survey companies 14 bucks an hour as part time student job is not bad. Not overly sensitive my dear, just overly amazed that if people do not like being called on
The reason why so many people do not hear a voice and think someone hung-up is that the computer servers send numbers to a interviewers

Politely say "Hello/Ellow/Bonjour/Pronto" as Canadians, UK, French, Italian people do, or as Americans do "UUHUHH" or "Who the fuck is this" or "what the hell are you selling
FACT Three: When you see a number you do not know and don't pick it up and they don't leave a message. Guess why? Gee, I dunno. Do you think survey companies are comprised of 2-4 people sitting in a comfy room occasionally dialing and leaving messages to those not home. Get real. They are call centers spread across North America some with 200-300 people. The goal of call centers (telemarketing also) is to talk to people. If they are not home (or too scared or dumb to answer and see who is calling - guess what. They call back. It is just like you might do with a friend. You call their doorbell but there not home. You pass by leter to see if they are in or you call them back since it was your intention to talk to them. It is not rocket science folks. So, when the phone calls. and you do not recognize the number answer the damn thing. Have some balls.
Fact Two: Surveys are also political. Where the hell do you think the momentum comes from in political campaigns; policy decision making at civic, state/provincial and national levels; social and political think tanks. Is it all accurate? Yes and No. Is it valid research. Yes and No. The alternative is to live in a vacuum (say, move to China) and have no indication of collective perspectives or dissent). The questions about age and income are for statistics. Are people so dumb. Someone who is 20yrs old has a very different view of a topic or opinion than someone who is 50. Likewise, someone who is making 200 000 has a different world view than than someone who is making 20 000. It ain't rocket science folks. The info is collected in a aggregate. Quite obviously people are poorly read. How many time do you read 50-70 years asked in a city are scared to go at night or something of the sort. If you just do surveys without knowing the age you could do 4000 surveys about health care in Canada and the US with 22year olds who have never been sick or know nothing about a topic. Are people so freaking paranoid. Man, everytime you swipe your Visa etc, the data is collected and sold for demographic marketing. Of course people are to stupid to think about that.
BUT, but but, but why? Well, boys and girls, the machinations of corporate capitalism sees market research as an important for understanding the consumer's perception. Though I know not one person who ever thinks 'hey I like this product because of this over this product.' No, people just numbly buy whatever you see within the first ten seconds of hitting an aisle or car dealership. Get real. Look, the very companies everyone holds up as leaders at local, or national levels - the very companies you work for - have market research departments. Are people so naive about the very heart of what drives the Western free market economy. Understanding the consumer. Good god almighty. Maybe something to be not so proud of when you send little Johnny to Business School at State Whatever University etc. He is enmeshing himself into the very mechanisms that create the world of marketing, which is fed to a large degree by market research. So, it might be better to go bay after the deception makers who teach and forge the young minds in Marketing Departments at business schools across the land.
FACT ONE: Canada does not have a do not call list for Canadians, but soon it will for Canadians in all provinces who wish not to be called by telemarketers. And, just like the do not call lists in the United States, the UK (that the United Kingdom for those with poor world knowledge
As a part-time phone interviewer (in Canada) who understands the anger of some people who get telemarketing calls but does not understand why people are not literate enough to read the Do Not Call List regulations in the USA. Please let me enlighten you.
caller wants me to answer survey only if english is my second language; outrageous if you speak english you are not good enough to answer
Mr. A,
Thanks for the useful info. I hope it helps somebody.
Unfortunately, it didn't help me. I just received another call from your company a week after asking your phone agent to remove my number from your database.
*MORE ON HOW TO HANDLE OPINION SEARCH*
I forgot to tell you.
If you receive a call from OPINION SEARCH or any other market research company and it bothers you and you do not want to be called again, DO NOT SAY THAT YOU ARE BUSY!!! According to market research standards, when you say that you are busy, that is considered a CALLBACK and you WILL BE 100% CALLED BACK until you grow some balls and say DO NOT CALL ME/THIS NUMBER AGAIN. Those are the magic words.
*THE OPINION SEARCH DO NOT CALL LIST REMOVAL*

I hope this helps everybody. When I call you, I think about you. I really do. Sometimes, I feel horrible when I call moms about to change their crying babies. I immediately tell them I am sorry and that I sympathize and that I would rather call them at a more convenient time. Sometimes, I disturb family time. And yes I feel guilty. But that is my part-time job and I have hefty school fees to pay. Other times, I call really passionate people who really have interesting things to say about society, corporations and politics. It's always a pleasure doing a survey with them. Other times, I call lonely, old people and they do my survey. Then, I listen a bit to what they have to say. Usually, they are very glad somebody called them. And those are the best moments.
IF YOU WANT TO BE TAKEN OFF OUR LISTS, call 514-288-0420 or 514-288-0199 or 1-800-288-0199. At all these numbers, ask the receptionist for a supervisor or press 7 and you will reach a supervisor or the supervisor voice mail. If you reach the supervisor voice mail, feel free to leave your phone number and say the words DO NOT CALL ME AGAIN. We will then proceed to remove you from our database. If you reach a live person, they will most definitely ask you for your phone number. They will not ask for your name or any other information. We need to know your phone number so that we can know which number to remove. Many of you refuse to give it to us. If you do not give it to us, you cannot be removed from our database. You will receive more annoying calls and it is frustrating for us to receive complaints and not be able to do anything about them. Help us help you.
The DO NOT CALL LIST does not apply to market research companies. Only telemarketing companies.
I think this link bears repeating: opinionsearch.com?
