Hey Iowa Girl how about them calling wanting you to pay your car payment over the phone when the payment has allready cleared the bank. Some of us do keep up our bills and the jacklegs still call. Whos the idiot. Sounds like you might be one of the real jewels they have working there.

2010-11-29 17:11:54 UTCIowa Girl

NOT A SCAM! If Fifth Third Bank (5/3 Bank) is calling it's because your car payment is due or you are LATE! Feel like you are being harassed? Keep up on your bills idiots!

2010-10-26 01:58:01 UTCNO

it is a scam - but it's fun to call them back and just not give them any information - what losers.....police traced all calls with triangular locator and found location....NOT A REAL BANK!!!!!!

2010-01-15 16:14:07 UTCBell

Fifth Third Bank get this, have a loan furthest pay date with late charge is the 16th. They started calling and harassing me this morning, and not very polite.

2010-01-14 21:46:17 UTCJ

said was 5/3 in a msg on the 3rd time they called. had a case # and number to call back. havent called but checked my account. no fraud seems to have taken place on my account when i checked it online

2009-12-31 16:08:37 UTCsc

this number is a legit company. fifth third bank corporate offices will show the same number on the caller id regardless of whether it is card fraud, loans, customer service, collections, etc. ftps card fraud moniters for several different banks across the country. so, if you don't bank with fifth third, chances are your bank hired them to moniter their debit or credit cards. if they ever do call you, they will never ask for full card numbers or full ssn. they may verify your dob or last four of your ssn. if you don't feel comfortable, speak with your bank first, and they will forward you to the card fraud department.

2009-06-18 17:16:20 UTCsd report

I called my creidt union and they state it was legitimate - there were attempts to charge my card at Wallmart god knows where and the two small charges from a gas station. It all is very disconcerting. If anything these people from FTPS fraud prevention should be more professional and explain what they are doing. The guy didn't know What FTPS stood for and hung up on my husband. What were we supposed to think. If all else fails - call the 800 on the back of your card and cancel then contact your bank immediately.

2009-06-18 15:49:43 UTCsd report

received a call last night around 9:00pm stating that they were FTPS fraud prevention and had detected unusual activity with our debit card $200 that were rejected in a Wallmart some where in Ohio or a city not where we live and two small gas station charges of $1.75 or so that supposedly did go through. What was odd is that the caller asked for my husband or myself by fist name and addressed my husband by first name and talked about a charge in Chula Vista which is were we live. My husband asked what FTPS stood for and the guy could not answer what the accronym stood for and stated he was loosing connection and hung up. When we called back the first thing they asked you was to enter your account or social security number.....mmmmm not a chance. Then when we drilled down the call tree to speak with someone the message said they were closed...but we had just received a call a minute ago....I called to cancel my debit card through my bank 1800 number, checked my account and did not see any unusual activity.

2009-03-31 16:07:29 UTCMarie

I received a call from this number this morning and did not answer it. They left a message to call back 800-889-5280 along with a case number. I called back and they pulled my husband's credit card/debit card and told us that there was suspicious activity (small online charge that was denied due to AVS mismatch). I was uncomfortable so I asked the lady to hold while I called my bank. In the meantime she was talking to my husband and hung up on him (bad move). Called my bank and they verified the information we received from this number is correct. I called them back and complained about the rep and told them that I have taken care of everything through my bank and did not give any other information, nor did they ask. My bank did verify that this is a legitimate call. They use this company for fraud detection.

2008-10-02 18:17:22 UTCCassie

This number called the company I work for and hung up when I answered saying that you for calling "----". If they were really from the bank trying to detect fraud why would they be calling a company? It's a scam

2008-09-25 01:36:25 UTCBrooke

Calls several times a day.

2008-09-22 05:46:25 UTCAJ

Evidently Fifth Third sells the right to conduct business under its website and phone number. See merchantcircle.com. Is this legal?

2008-09-15 16:15:20 UTCvery upset

513 579 5300 keeps calling me many times for several months and ask personal information. DO NOT TELL THEM! They said they are fifth third bank, which is actually does not exist. When I asked who they are and they hanged up immediately. How to stop them from calling?

2008-08-26 00:59:28 UTCBarbed Wire

Called again. Same old pitch of you need to call an 800 to take care of ... . When I tried to call the 513-579-5300 number back, I was connected to another area code with the same suffix.

2008-08-09 18:42:04 UTCDG

came up on caller id as an Ohio number

2008-06-09 16:49:02 UTCC

They have been calling for several days. I contacted 5/3 today. There is nothing wrong with my accts, and they have no idea who was calling. This is a scam. Do not give them ANY information. You don't have to give them your name and phone number. They must already have that to be calling you.

2008-05-28 01:36:30 UTCjermball30

I don't think this is 5/3. I'm expecting a call from them to let them know about what I know and what I'm reading on this website. Also, I've called my cell phone company that services the phone I've been receiving the calls on. They said that the only way to find out who REALLY is calling (because it's a "private" number according to caller id), the police may need to hold an investigation to subpoena the records and possibly get to the bottom of this. Likely, this is a federal offense of some sort.

2008-04-15 17:09:16 UTCc

Did not answer; no message left; caller did not let go to machine

2008-03-25 17:22:21 UTCcp

Got a call from this number and did find that our account had been overdrawn. Wife called regular bank and they said that they use these guys for fraud protection. Saved us some cash as there was already some gas charges and walmart charges in SC....A far piece from Texas and I've never been there...

2008-03-05 01:09:56 UTCme 2

I have thee excact problem as everyone else with this 5/3 so called bank every hour of every day day. Then if you do talk to someone they are unprofessional, dont answer any questions, and they just want info if not they hang up! My advise to all that read this is like me report this and any other company, bank, or buiness to as many gov. agencys (bbb, ndcr, etc.) so that some type of action can be taken by the proper authorities with enough complaints.!!!

2008-02-21 21:43:33 UTCbob

5/3 call re: card fraud. I verified it by call back, not a scam. I would suggest calling 5/3 by number on card to check about fraud if this number shows up.

2008-02-15 00:02:51 UTCEd

This number called and a woman left a message on my machine using my name, saying she was from the "Card Fraud Section Department" and was calling about unusual charges to my debit card made that day and to call 800-899-5280 press 1, give my case number, etc. But she never used a company name or said which card it was. So I called my bank and they said they do use outside agencies to monitor for such things, but there was no message for that on my account and no unusual charges, and that's not the 800 number for the company they use. They also said to ALWAYS call the bank or credit card company directly and never call anyone else or give out info to any callers. Basically it's some kind of scam and don't believe the posters below who say it's legit, they may well work for the scammers! Beware if you get a call from this number....

2008-01-14 21:45:35 UTCBob

They hung up when i answered

2007-10-17 19:54:44 UTCDoug Grossa

Never left a voice mail message. My voice mail recorded a lady who just kept asking for me but never left a message. Duh!

2007-10-12 18:26:17 UTCD

Have called several times over different days - never left a message

2007-10-11 13:29:59 UTCD

Just got the hang up call at 9 am found this site and told my wife. She said, "well check your account!" I did and whoops I was overdrawn. So it's obviously a valid phone number. I would still always recommend calling your bank number though as they will probably be able to help you better as they are more familiar with your personal character.

2007-09-26 22:48:51 UTCRush

Called it back, it was fifth third bank, I have dealings with them, so maybe it was legit, either way, when I was called, they did not leave a message...

2007-09-26 15:20:35 UTCDee

This number has been calling me consistently on my cell phone. When I goggled their number I pulled up this website. Great Info. Next time they call I am going to answer it and tell them to quit calling me on my cell.

2007-09-25 17:22:09 UTCD

Told me to hot card my debt. sure enough there was a $2036 charge from Best buy not mine!!!

2007-09-05 19:43:32 UTCJennifer

Their screw up is that I don't even have a Fifth Third Account. Never answer questions about yourself to an unsolicited call that guides you to the internet!

2007-09-04 14:24:21 UTCBrennan

Getting calls from them now. I have nothing through fifth third bank...I'm just going to continue to ignore.

2007-08-29 17:01:47 UTCtim

They call about once every other week, but never leave message.I never take the call.If it was important then they would leave a message

2007-08-17 17:00:32 UTCPatrick

5/3rd telemarketing. It is an answering service that asks you to hold on for the next available representative to discuss account options.

2007-08-13 20:32:13 UTCTB

We had a vehicle financed thru. Fifth Third Bank. Recently paid it off, with NO late payments ever. "Because of our good credit rating w/ FTB", we now get at least 3 daily calls from them wanting us to switch our mortgage to them. Personally, I am not interested in dealing with a bank that continually calls, when you ask them to put you on a no call list. Evidently, personal preferences do not matter to them! I can compare them, from experience, to dealing with Sprint.....they simply do not know when to stop calling you for no legit. reason, in order to keep you as a customer. The "Do Not Call List" does not seem to work on businesses that you have done business with in the past. UGH.

2007-08-13 19:33:20 UTCPeak Positions

Confirmed Scam. I called it back and asked them for a supervisor, spoke with her for about 2 minutes and when she asked for my social I told her I wasn't buying into her scam. She hung up. I would say that's a confirmed scam.

2007-08-12 16:01:08 UTCJane

They call repeatedly at all times of the day and night. I have reported this number to the Texas Attorney General, the FCC, the local police & the 'real' Fifth Third Bank. Someone at these agencies is in cahoots with these folks.

2007-08-09 18:58:07 UTCkv

I just got a call at 12:48 PM and was wondering who it was and found this site...so I'm reporting it. I never received a voicemail.

Thye called and said a change has been made to our deposit account at Fifth Third Bank. I can't figure out what they are talking about, as nothing has changed in any of our 53rd accounts.

Recently became 5/3 customer. Asked not to use my phone for marketing purposes. Getting qute a few calls from them. Every time asked not to call again. Now getting calls with prerecorded messages, thought it was illegal.

2007-08-01 14:46:18 UTCconnie

recorded msg on phone said to call 800-344-0239 for "important changes in my installment loan." When I called the woman asked for my phone # and name and last 4 digits of my social security number. When I gave my name and phone number but refused to tell her anything else & please take me off the sales call list, she told me to "call customer service."

2007-07-25 12:13:32 UTCMarisa

They call our business line multple times a day and simply hang up. They never speak, they never start a recording, they just hang up. ALL DAY!

2007-07-19 13:59:19 UTCC

This number called me and it was a LEGIT call and I was thankful for it. Gave 800-889-5280 as a call back number. Don't discount them if they are calling about fraud detection - they warned me about bad charges that were happening on my debit card. I gave no information out at all. Then I followed through with a call directly to my bank.

2007-07-08 16:13:26 UTCJulia

The number calling me is 513-579-5300 (caller I.D. says it is Fifth Third Bank. I would not give the caller any of my personal information and I asked the man who he was. He yelled at me and said I wasn't asking the questions that he was. He became threatening to me so I hung up. I called the number back and Jennifer from Fifth Third Bank in Michagin answered. She told me the call was fraudulant and not to give any information out to him.

2007-07-08 15:22:13 UTCT

Do not give them any information. It is a scam. They told me I needed to give a credit card number over the phone to pay a pass due account before it went to collections. No such account even exsisted for me. Don't fall for what they tell you and do not verify any information they ask for.

2007-07-03 19:29:26 UTCIT_proff

With using IP telephony, there is possible way to put any caller ID (caller phone number) if provider which connect IP phone does not controll possible caller IDs from client. So caller could be from other state but generate caller ID with 513 area code with well known bank phone number, and then route you to call them back on some 1-8xx-xxx-xxxx which is could be not a really your bank.

2007-06-21 21:47:28 UTCpissed

2007-06-20 21:14:38 UTCEric

This is an automated msg from 53 Bank asking you to call back a phone number (866-865-0993). You don't have to give any account information just the msg code provided and your billing zipcode. The automated message of your account status will then play.

2007-06-20 15:48:14 UTCStacey

5/3 Bank. They are trying to get in touch with someone that is not me. Even after I have told them to stop calling this number they still call.

They kept calling my business number. I do not answer, call goes to answering machine. Recorded message says "Please hold, you have an important call from Fifth Third bank". Then it hangs up. I called them, kept pressing "0" repeaedly until a person answered. Told them to remove my number from their list. Then the customer service rep wanted my "NAME & Social Security number". I gave them JUST my phone number and said there is no reason they would possibly need my name OR SS# to remove me from their stupid list. Told them I was reporting them to National Do-not-call registry and hung up!

This number started calling Saturday April 28th---at 8:00am! I didn't answer because the number was unfamiliar and they didn't leave a msg. They called again around 2pm---again, no msg. Then they called the next day at 8am, again...and no msg. And finally at around 2:45pm, this time leaving a meg to call an 800 number. I called and a lady asked for my phone number (which was fine b/c they probably have ID anyway. Then she asked for my account number. I told her no way until I knew what was going on and she asked for my name. All of a sudden she said she had my account on screen. What? I again asked her what this was about and she said she needed my address, account number, and last 4 digits of my SSN. I told her that I didn't feel comfortable giving this info without knowing why she was calling and suggested that perhaps the bank send me a letter---since they have only been calling without leaving messages until now. She just told me to call my local branch and hung up. This seems incredibly shady to me.

I have been receiving a call from this number for about a week now. They never leave a message. I decided to answer it this morning. The operator (or whatever) starts with that the call is about my account, and she needs to first verify my information (Address etc). I wanted to know what this was all abou t before I gave away any information. She said she couldn't do that. Well, I told her to take me of their list and not to call back again and hung up. Can we say shady... really friggin shady.

This number is the public number which ALL Fifth Third Bank phones in the home offices call out from. No matter who calls you from the bank, no matter what their number is, it will always show up as 513-579-5300.

Called me stating they noticed some unusal activity on my account out of Mexico. I told them I would contact my Credit Union in the morning. They stated we are not from the Credit Union -- we are a fraud detection company. I told them THEY sounded like a fraud to me. The man tried to interject...so I hung up on him. I will contact my Credit Union tomorrow.

Calls my cell phone 4 times a day for the last 4 days and does not leave a message.

This number periodically calls my cell phone and then disconnects the call.
This number is on the do not call government list. This means the company unless a customer alert for fraud is in violation of the terms of the do not call agreement.

Keeps calling every morning asking to rerturn the call or hangs up without leaving a message. I'M TIRED OF THIS!

They left a message, a case #, and a callback # for me: 800-889-5280. At first I thought I was being scammed, but I figured I'd call and investigate further. They were credit card fraud monitors working on behalf of my bank and had spotted unusual activity, and offered to cancel my debit card for me and set up a dispute for the questionable charges. I DID NOT GIVE THEM ANY ACCOUNT NUMBERS OR MY SOCIAL SEC. # (ALWAYS a good idea even if they seem legit), but they didn't ask for them, and were able to read to me entries from my bank statement.

Received two calls from this number. On the second call they left a message to call 800-344-0239. I called to find out who they were. They wouldn't say and insisted on me giving them my name and phone number. When I refused, they hung up on me.

Calls 4 or 5 times in a row every few days

2006-10-09 13:17:16 UTCChris

Calls several times

2006-09-06 13:07:29 UTCJ

Calls several times a day, even on Sat. and Sun.They even called on Labor Day. It is a recording telling you to call a toll free number. At that number they want you to key in your account number to verify a recent deposit.I hung up.They still keep calling even when you talk to a real person and tell them to stop!

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
