I followed Roger's advice (thanks Roger) and called 505-797-6321. They repeatedly asked for my account number and I repeatedly said no. I provided my telephone number and then my name and it seems my account was somehow associated with a random person's account and that was what was prompting the calls. They have now removed the reference to my account and the calls should stop. Fingers crossed.

I get a call from this number at 4.30pm EST every single week day for the past month. It is driving me crazy and I want this to stop but I don't know how to make it stop.

FYI: This is a phishing scam. I have no account with CitiBank, and have not had one for years. DO NOT RETURN THE CALL OR PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION

I started getting calls from the 505-797-6322 number this week. I don't have a Citibank account, so this is definitely phishing, folks!! I called Citi and reported it and they said they were crank calls. Don't give out any personal info, just hang up!!

2010-07-23 19:53:35 UTCFrank

These are from scammers & should be reported to the FTC!!!! These 505 numbers purporting to be from citibank are scammers and the same folks who send out spam and fake emails pretending to be from citibank. Do not provide your personal information over the phone. Identity theif is rampant and this is the perpatrators' latest tactic.

I have been receiveing this calls daily for the past few weeks. No idea how they got my cell phone number. BEWARE This is a scam number. DO NOT PROVIDE SSN OR BANK account number over the phone. I just came back from my local branch & the customer rep. verified that these are fraudulent calls from UNKNOWN numbers.

2010-04-27 20:47:44 UTCRoger

It's actually an automated call center. If you don't answer the call, an automated system leaves you a message. You may get calls from 505-797-6322, 505-797-6140, etc... basically any 505-797-6###. I thought it might have been a scam, so I tried resolving it directly through a number I found on Citi's website, but even after speaking with a supervisor (multiple times), it didn't get resolved. Finally, one of the supervisors asked if it was a 505-797-#### number. Once I told her it was, she then gave me the number that I should call (505-797-6321). Once you go through the initial language prompt, I believe I selected option 2 to speak to someone. I then explained that I did not have any Citi accounts and I wanted the number removed. You DO NOT need to provide any SSN, just your name and phone number. The calls then stopped a couple of days later.

Here's how I was told they got my number. Citi gave an initial name to call for collecting the debt. The collection company then started calling every phone number that matched that person's name in an attempt to get to the correct person. My cell number must have still had some old information on it from the previous person. Very annoying, but the calls stopped a couple of days later after I made the call to 505-797-6321.

It's a geniune citibank number, and it's an auto notification for overdrafts. According to the operator, there is a new "service charge" when your account has less with 1500.00 balance. For those who don't make deposites (greater than the service charge) AND do not currently have 1500.00 in their accounts will get a call from them sooner or later...

2010-04-15 21:36:18 UTCAlex

It's fraudelent citibank number praying on your personal bank information. I have verified it with my local citibank branch. Be aware!!!

2010-04-06 19:14:07 UTCMizz

Not a scam, just a bad collections system. I got these calls for 6 months until I found someone who was actually helpful (they were in the checking account fraud unit). In any case, they said that if you are receiving these robocalls, you can call Citi's customer service line at 1-800-627-3999, then keep hitting 0 till an operator picks up (even while the computer asks for your SSN, which you do not have to enter). Explain to the operator VERY CLEARLY that you want to be PLACED ON THE DO-NOT-CALL LIST. It's very likely they have no idea what this is, but they will look up "DO NOT CALL LIST" in their customer service computer system and find a procedure for removing you. It takes about 10 days for the "do not call" to become effective. You do not have to provide your SSN at any point to complete this process.

Absolutely, this HAS to be a scam and something should be done about it. I received the same voice mail 3 days in a row...but I DO NOT HAVE and NEVER HAVE HAD any credit card or ANY kind of account with citibank. I am very angry that the people responsible somehow managed to get my cell phone number and are using it for this scam.

2009-08-18 22:21:33 UTCDave

I don't understand this scam. They tell you to call back at 1-866-756-4365, where a recording tells you that you have an "overdraft balance with Citibank" and tells you to call 1-800-627-3999 or go to online.citibank.com - both of which are legitimate Citibank reference points. Thus, I have no clue how these phishers expect to steal your information.

Just checked my Citibank account, and I definitely do NOT have an overdraft balance. WTF?!?! They keep calling everyday!! Make it stop!!

2009-07-30 18:53:46 UTCDoug

It is genuinely Citicard and/or Citibank, and this (I was a call center mgr) is really based in their India call center I bet. I do have accounts with them, this is genuine not fraud, but it is still very poorly done and that call center is one of the worst I've dealt with in India. It's like talking with parrots.

2009-05-16 06:30:49 UTCJamie

They've called me every day for three weeks. I don't have, never had an account with citicards. If I turn the phone off to get away from them, they leave a long voicemail; which I have to pay 20 cents a
minute to listen to, then delete. Very irritating!

2009-04-23 22:42:51 UTCChris

deff a scam!! They kept on calling me so much that I actually started to wonder,"do I really have some account I forgot about that
I didn't pay? Well I know EVERY bill and account I have and I couldn't take it so when the automated "citicards" promted for my SS# I put it in.
Then they let me talk to a rep that said no there is no one here with an account with my name. So now thay have my SS# and name. NOW I have my name and SS# on the 90 day fraud alert since I have good credit I don't want them ruining it! I am soo mad that I fell for that scam, I wish I read this a minute before I called... TOTAL SCAM don't be fooled!!

2009-04-21 19:54:05 UTCMike

Claim they are citicards, but definitely is fishing, BE AWARE!

2009-03-27 01:29:39 UTCSean

For what its worth: I have gotten numerous calls from this number, but disregarded it due to everyone saying it was a scam. Turns out that my Citibank account that I havent used in a very long time was actually overdrawn, I didnt call the 800 number back, Just checked out my account online, appears the account has some fraud issues.

2009-02-26 19:55:42 UTCNot giving name

I have a Citibank savings account ONLY. It is NOT overdrawn as this phone message states. I opened an account over two years ago with $10.00 to see if I could get a car loan which I ultimately refused due to my Credit Union beating their best rate by more than 10 points!

Now they are holding my $10.00 ransom because my signature on my drivers license has changed and does not match the one on file. They told me that I can spend my time and money and go to a notary and verify that I am the person who owns the account; all for 10 bucks.

Now, they've been calling non stop for over a month, at least once a day! I'm not giving them any information. I'm not spending my time dealing with them. They can keep those 10 bucks. And this new program I purchased for my phone which blocks people from calling has been the best investment yet!

SCREW YOU CITIBANK!

2009-02-25 00:18:55 UTCNot A Scam

If you have an account with Citi and it's overdrawn, you will be called from this number.

2009-02-20 15:31:17 UTCAl

Keep calling me - definitely a scam. How can I stop it??

2009-02-20 00:14:15 UTCMike

Yep, phishing...I called citi and this is not a citi number.

2009-02-16 17:14:19 UTCMe

Yep they keep calling us too. I'm glad I checked here. Thanks everyone.

2009-02-09 21:45:05 UTCBob

I've received a call from these people 3 or 4 times now. They leave an automated voicemail message that says to call them regarding urgent matters. Seems to be phishers.

2009-02-04 23:41:52 UTCDiane

Reported to Citibank last night, they confirmed this is a fraud. Do not give them any information. They continue to call everyday!

2009-01-08 17:15:17 UTCAmanda Elam

Possible phishing scam
Automated message requests callback to 1-866-756-4365. This call reaches automated message claiming account overdraft and requesting call to 1-800-627-3999 where another automated message requests atm/bankcard number.

2008-12-16 18:30:55 UTCMinmin

2008-12-09 16:26:59 UTCcorey

Phisher posing as CitiCards

2008-09-03 20:27:54 UTCchris

This is the automated call for a overdraft on an account from Citi

2008-08-14 19:39:49 UTCJeanne

it left a vmail telling me to call 1-866-756-4365 and that this wasn't a sales call. Sounded like a recording though. I didn't call but it sounded like phishing to me.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
