They've been calling my house every 45 minutes or so... and I paid my bill. Yes, I understand they have a job to do, but when the right hand and the left hand don't communicate, it doesn't make it okay for both those hands to be shoved up my a**. They need to check their records, as I know they can. The get real time notices from their online payment system when someone makes a payment. I know this for a fact as I was having difficulty one time with the system and had to call their customer support. When my payment went through on my side, they saw it go through on their side. So it's a bunch of BS for customer support to continue calling my home long after I've made a payment.

Even if you haven't paid your bill with them, it doesn't give them the right to call you 12 plus times a day. Two wrongs don't make a right. There are channels that they can take to get their money. Calling you so many times a day is not one of them.

If these guys are calling before 8am or after 9pm, they are in defiance of the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Protection Act), and should be notified as such. There are also limitations as to how many times they are allowed to call a specific number throughout the day, but that varies by state. Unfortunately, I worked for a collections agency, which is how I gained this knowledge.

RE: Do Not Call lists. Because these calls are not technically solicitations, the only way to have your phone number removed from their files is to politely explain that you don't know the person they are trying to contact, or don't have any way to get in touch with them. Honestly, being rude to a collector usually tells them that they've gotten in touch with who they're looking for. Hanging up on them tells them that the 'debtor' (in this case, mistakenly as it may be, YOU) do not want to deal with the matter in a cooperative way, which makes them want to call even more.

RE: If you've already squared up your account and continue to receive calls. If you have the proper documentation, whether it be an official letter from the Agency/Company that signifies your balance as ZERO, notify them of this, get their fax information and send it along. Unfortunately mistakes do happen, files are incorrectly documented, etc., which in many cases causes the Agency to continue to try and collect on a debt that doesn't exist.

PLEASE remember that these are people too. They're trying to do a job in a very competitive industry where the only things that matter are numbers. If you are not the person they're trying to reach, or have no means to contact that person, be calm. Be polite. Be respectful. The problem will be solved.

Hope this helps!

Already set up autopayment for tomorrow, but are calling me today about late payment? Don't they check their database for updates? Don't like being harassed about something I thought I already took care of.

STOP CALLING ME

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
