to those saying it is illegal for them to call your company, ampace does not hold to the law of the national do not call list, its not consider solicitation because its a service you ''already'' subscribe to.

2009-12-07 16:25:02 UTCex employee

I think its amusing, reading through some of this, and understand all sides of it. I am ex management from AmPace, and I wouldn't update information with these publications at all. They say they are magazines, but most of them are just big piles of advertisments thrown together, with articles paid for by advertisers. There are a handful out of the HUNDREDS of publications that are actually worth reading, and as far as those ''identification'' questions, they change yearly, and the publisher keeps them in their data base, so people who don't want to give out their birthday, but will give their birth month, the next year you'll be asked for the day of the month (1-31) and the year after that, they might ask the year. AmPace was horrible back when it was independently owned, and has continued to be horrible through the merger of an investment company, and the multiple changes in management. Also, they say you're already getting the publications, we used to get two types of files in, RENEWALS and NN'S/NEW NAMES. If you're in a NN file, youve never seen the publication, and most likely someone sold your name to the publisher and put you in the data base. AmPace bought out most of its competition in the B2B trade publication industry about four years ago, and some of the stuff is horrible, they'll say its free, and two months later you get an invoice for the magazine, if you don't pay it, the magazine will keep coming and you wont go to collections, but if you pay the bill, its your loss. Most of the employees are felons, the head of quality, has embezelment charges, but they'll still let her review your credit card information on the few publications that are paid subscriptions. If you really want the publication, I'd suggest asking who the publisher is, and going directly to their website, and subscribing that way, instead of over the phone. Its much safer. If you continue to get phone calls, tell them to status you as do not call, and if they continue, call the publisher, harrasing goes against the rules we get from the publisher. If you say you want to cancel, and they tell you to fill out a card in the magazine, do not renew, its how training supervisors used to have reps meet quotas.

I am a former employee of American Pacsetters The work is not hard at all I was there for about 3 years and was not a felon or on drugs. It was easy work, what made me quit was the new management that came in. She liked to play head games with you. I was a perfect employee I was there every day on time never missed a day. I did not say the script word for word and I was told by her that she was going to think about if she was going to right me up or let me go. She played head games with everyone and treated people like they are just a # in a chair Well I do not play head games so I quit. It was the best thing that I could of done.

by accident i stumbled upon this site and have to say it made my day. i worked at pacesetters for a number of months and have to say its a very good telesales job. i mean first off ive worked at MANY call centers and alot of them seem to have the boiler room approach however even though im good at my choice of employment, it depends upon the person. i mean i made nothing less than $11 an hour and that was right out of training. i didnt have to pull creditcards ask for future payments or personal info. just like every where you go you talk to nice people and ignorant people. the management staff there were ALWAYS willing to make an effort to help me flourish and become more productable. not to mention it was alot of employees but i noticed a mojority of them were friends on all levels of employment. having bbqs softball games and just desent good people. so some of the funny comments on here are probally because some are unhappy with the choices they made in life and instead of having any belief and bettering themselves mabey they were looking for a scapegoat and pointed the finger because they didnt like to make ALOT of money by simply renewing free information to businesses that actually give them a few ideas and some deals on equipment that they already are looking to get the best deal on in the future. so all and all i resigned because i relocated to tucson. but if i end up back in maricopa i would deffinetly end up back there. because we all want a job we can smile to as we walk through the door first thing in the morning. try them out but be prepared to work take advise from the managers and MAKE ALOT OF MONEY FOR SIMPLY TALKING!!!

2009-08-12 02:37:21 UTCunit grabber

american pacesetters is a horrible horrible company and the people that run it are the scum of the earth. we employees are the companies least valuable asset and the executives make sure not to pass up a single opportunity to remind us all of that (Dannette Dontje can choke on a fat cock and burn in hell). but please don't take it out on the phone reps. they're stuck doing a shitty job for shitty pay at an extremely shitty company that treats them like shit, and the last thing they need is to hear some secretary bitch and moan about how she doesn't want her bosses magazine. after all, all they're trying to do is feed their kids and buy their drugs and pay their bills (in that order)

2009-05-20 16:33:57 UTCKelvin Mays

Keeps calling during lunch calls once and then calls right back.

2009-05-13 05:00:43 UTCAMPACE

give the poor callers a break.. they are simply doing their jobs. they can find work elsewhere so tehy have to send out free magazines for unknown and low end of the industry scales magazines that are worth nothing.... these people who are workig @ Am Pacesetters are felons or criminals who cant find regular work... so help them out with keeping a job.

2009-04-10 15:41:37 UTCTrying to work

It may be free but if it has nothing to do with my job or work it is waste of paper, time and it cheats the advertisers who think they are getting to people who read the publication. Also when I agree to take one of these free magazine then I am flooded with other offers for free magazine and each take more than a minute of questions or I have to say NO THANKS! YOU HAVE A NICE DAY GOODBY and hang up while the person on the other end is still saying but its free why won't you take it.

2009-03-31 15:02:25 UTCJust the Facts

I could be wrong, but I think he means black people... or African Americans, whichever term you prefer today.

FYI, judging from what I read in a book, "colored folk" and "negro" are no longer acceptable terms. (although they could make a corduroy-like comeback any day now).

2009-03-31 14:55:04 UTCToken Black Guy

"First off, you people are being a bit too dramatic..."

"You people"? What the hell do you mean by "you people"?

2009-03-06 18:33:07 UTCFormer Employee

I am a former employee of American Pacesetters, and I am baffled at some of the comments and allegations that I see here. Let me help to clarify what exactly all of your complaints are ACTUALLY about. Ok, where to start...

First off, you people are being a bit too dramatic about a telephone call where the only intent is to update contact information in order to CONTINUE sending you a FREE magazine that you ALREADY receive.

It's actually very comedic to me that there are probably 50 combined hours of effort put into this web site, yet the biggest reluctance we hear from secretaries are that they "just don't have time" to go through a 30 second update. I think that if any of my employees shared your time management skills, I'd have a lot of openings in EVERY department.

Finally, although it won't help to fuel your everlasting need for drama in your life, American Pacesetters is the farthest thing from a scam that you will find. You are not asked any personal information whatsoever, so HOW this would even be a scam is a little confusing to me; perhaps your imaginations are more active than mine is. Your mailing address, title and company name is updated, after which they ask one or two demographic questions i.e. "how many employees work at your location?" in order to entice advertisers by having specific information about the subscribers. The advertisers pay the publishers, who in turn pay American Pacesetters and any number of other telemarketing companys that work exclusively for the trade publication industry.

In summary, take 30 seconds out of your life, update the magazine, then go on with your day. That process seems so much more simple than forming an online mob and creating far-fetched, completely non-sensical drama in an effort to make your day more exciting.

2009-02-28 05:46:15 UTCpacesetter

just renew the magazine. it's a free magazine and all it costs you is a minute of your time. by taking the magazine, the phone rep makes money, american pacesetters makes money, and the publisher makes money. and that helps the economy! because the magazines go out to a specific industry and only to the employees that have potential to buy products form the magazine, the advertisers are willing to pay a lot of money and that allows the publisher to offer the magazine free of charge.

if you dont want it all you gotta do is answer the phone and say so. rude secretaries don't count but if the person we are calling for asks us to, we will gladly take him off the list

2009-02-27 01:15:31 UTCPAcesetter

And if anyone at AmericanPacesetters is rude to you or you wish to be removed from the list please contact us at (480) 784-2270.

2009-02-27 01:08:51 UTCPacesetter

As for the Joker Michael Suttle, he was fired from AmericanPacesetters after for being un-professional. His comments are his own and are in no way condoned by American Pacesetters. Sorry for any inconvenience, in this economy we all have to do what we have to do to get by, and all we are trying to do is feed our families and children. I appreciate your understanding and again apologize for any inconvenience we may cause.

2009-02-27 00:48:31 UTCPacesetter

We are just doing our jobs! Listen if you dont want the call, answer and ask to be put on the do not call list. If you dont want the magazines, send in the card to discontinue the subscription. As for the coward offering the names and addresses, you are probably just mad because you got fired from there because you are only qualified to work at Mcdonalds

2009-01-20 16:38:47 UTCKathrine

Called today at 10:00am and I did not answer. I am glad this website offers this information. Our company gets a lot of bogus "FREE" magazines that are stacked in piles in our office. There is no need for that. The Post Office charges me everytime the limit is reached...I wish they would stop sending them!!! Thanks for all the direct number information, I am going to get a hold of someone in the business office to get them to go away!

2008-12-10 19:13:14 UTCMurph

Tired of these guys calling while i'm trying to recoup from operation... told them in past to put me on do not call list.

2008-12-03 21:46:10 UTCApril

Got a call from this number at my job with 'American Pacese' on the caller ID. Some guy w/a foreign accent asked for my boss by name saying it was about some magazine journal. When I told him he wasn't in today, the guy wanted to know MY last name! Why would my last name be at all relevant if they are legitemately trying to update info for a subscription my boss receives?? When I told him I wasn't giving my last name, he then wanted the initial & my job title. I ended up just hanging up on him when my other line started ringing & saved me.

I get calls at my business every day, multiple times per day. I don't answer. How do you get them to stop? Is there a way to block them? There's been at least three today and it's really getting on my nerves.

they have called me EVERY day this week, and it is getting extremely annoying! I've seen the number on caller ID before, ignored it, because I don't know who they are; they never leave any message.

2008-09-04 17:09:58 UTCAl

Rec'd junk marketing ph call from 480-248-1579, American Pacesetters. Did not answer. Just picked up the phone, and hung right back up. Dirtbags. 1 minute later they called again, I picked up just long enough to hangup, and didn't even bother answering!

What a bunch of dirtbags! Constantly calling here. Reverse Lookup shows they can be a real pain!

Incidentally, where are all the stupid people who believe in the junk science of global warming, the no-drill anywhere crowd, the invested in complete surrender-and-defeat appeasement crowd to help avert us from a torrential rain of useless morons that call here? Here's a good place to put all those Marxist lefties from Bezerkly, CA to be productive, and become useful.

2008-06-19 18:58:34 UTCAl

This is definitely a place calling to verify subscription information. If you don't want these calls, NEVER request a free trade journal. Once you do, it's too late and you may even find yourself getting calls after your subscription has supposedly lapsed. All of the free journals mention they have auditing requirements. I'm guessing these requirements are so they aren't inflating their circulation to advertisers.

2008-05-29 22:34:48 UTCSusan

I received a voicemail from this telephone that simply said "You're an F-ING IDIOT. (but used the real F word). I called Mike not realizing he wasn't there any more and he was very nice. I have since e-mail the new Bus. Dev. Manager and told her what had happened. I have not received a reply.

That's who just called me now - 4/17/08 at about 1:30pm. They were asking to renew a free magazine thing, of course. I recieved the same phone call before, only they asked for an owner who no longer owned the company. When I asked if the magazine had previously been shipped to the area this man HAD been working in, they hung up.

This time, because I don't have the heart to hang up on people when they're pleasant enough, they asked for the current owner. After saying she wasn't in, he read to me the general company information; he already had my boss's e-mail and everything, which I find interesting. He repeated the address one number off, so I don't know if was a speaking mistake or if he got it wrong. I'm kind of hoping wrong now; I've looked up the caller ID number on Google and found this.

Ugh, telemarketers.

This company/caller keeps calling me and they only let the phone ring about 2 times typically. This appears to be just long enough to let caller id capture it.
I suspect this company wants you to call them back and in that way they start out with you in a state of curiousity about them. I suspect this gives them some advantage to "cold calling" when you just pick up the phone and decide if you are going to talk or not.

2008-04-14 21:03:15 UTCHagar

I get 1 or 2 calls a day from this number. They never leave a voice mail. I do not know this number or recognize the caller, so I don't answer the call.

I asked to be taken off this call list and the male operator laughed and hung up. I am forwarding to Secretary of State of MO.

Just so you know, the "Monkey with a script" (Michael Suttle - 72.208.74.210 - 01-18-2008 - 00:22:06 UTC) who posted on here with all the vulgarity is using Cox Cable.

I'm sure a quick polite and formal email to COX from the owners of Whocalled.us requesting an IP Traceroute of said vulgar individual could quite quickly turn up his name, home address, home phone number, etc., as I'm sure he'd love to have TM calls coming into his home all day and night just like the rest of us are getting...

Got my first call from 480-248-1579. No message left. Won't return call.

One suggestion is to answer the phone and be silent. Call centers get hit with long distance costs. If they don't leave a message, why not hit 'em where it hurts?

Comment to Mr. Suttle's response on 1/18/08:
Your total lack of respect & professionalism astounds me! What makes you think I would want to buy anything from you? IF I were considering to renew any publications you or your company were trying to sell me, there is no way now, after reading your "colorful" response, that I would EVER give you or your company any of my business. You seem to forget that if we "readers" don't read your publications, your business won't be able to sell their "advertising" packages, which in turns means no money to pay all of you "telemarketers". Who do you think will be among the first to go? I certainly hope that your supervisors have seen your response here & takes immediate steps to remove you from their company. By the way, I've noticed that most of the people here claiming to be employees & such with Amer Pacesetter are lacking in English skills. Most security warnings for spam & phishing tell you to beware of misspellings & bad grammer. That should shed some light about those worried about ID theft.

Stop being a bunch of rude pussies. We are just calling to update information for publishers of trade magazines that you currently or at one time subscribed to. All most of you do is bitch and fucking moan. Quit it! Just doing our jobs as you are doing yours. If you don't like it too bad. Its fucking free. so blow me already. 2007-10-30 18:00:10 UTCtd

Annoying....5-6 calls daily for last few weeks. I'm sure they use a computer autodialer...hangs up if it reaches voicemail or an answering machine. Trouble is that it triggers a recording after hangup...usually dial tone...that fills up message boxes quickly. I emailed a Bus. Deve. Director to see how to stop the calls as my number is blocked through every possible avenue. My guess....they claimed to some posters that they are a subscription renewal business. That means who they represent is claiming to have a 'previous business relationship' with you, the call recipient. That amounts to an end run around the federal law...telemarketers must stop when told to, or honor the federal 'do not call' list. Companies with "a previous business relationship" are exempt. Once they ask about some magazine you once took, and you decline, they then try to move another product. Shady....

2007-10-25 22:01:55 UTCReese

They called me three times from the same number and never left a message. When I answered they asked me if I was myself and I said "no" because they sounded like a telemarketer. Then they asked me if a certain address was associated with the phone number... it was my parent's address.

I would not believe anyone who says that this caller is harmless and that all they are doing is confirming information for publications. I DO NOT receive any publications and AM NOT in the science field and DO NOT give my cell number out to anyone.
If they WERE a legitimate business, they would leave messages when calling telling you who they are and ask you to call them back. They DO NOT. These people are just another scammer or identity theft group as far as I'm concerned. I never give someone any informaion. If they truly WERE who they say they are, ask them for the information about you and that you will say yes or no as to it being correct. When you do this, they will hang up. Which is a validation of them being a scam. They would already have your information if in truth they were verifying publications. Use some sense. DO NOT ever give anyone your information. I always ask them what information they have and they hang up. Then report them to the authorities.
480-248-1579 is a scam, imho.

i am an employee at american pacesetters this company renews free trade publications that most of you already recieve. all we do is just revarify the address that the magazine is sent to and just ask a couple of survey questions such as job title primary bussiness activity and if any new or current employee may like to recieve there own copy all these questions are asked just to see if the publication is relavent to your job we would not want to send you something that would just take up space in your mail box and they are free there is never a cost.and if you do have one of the american pacesetters treat you in a rude manner i would call (480) 784-2270 and ask to speak to our operations manager here is the web site americanpacesetters.com

I've been getting multiple calls from these people every business day for about the last week. I own a small service oriented business and they want to know if I'd like to recieve free trade pubs. I told them the first time they called that I was not interested. Not even five minutes later they were calling back. I refuse to answer because I already told them 'no' and they keep calling back - if they can't take no then they deserve the hassle of calling and getting no answer from me. Today they've called like four times in less than two hours. They must be subcontracted by a lot of pubs to 'sell' their products.

2007-06-27 16:48:49 UTCGavin

2007-06-22 17:37:15 UTCRonin

I've been getting calls from this number for quite a while now. Call times range from 6:30am to 11:45pm CST. Each and every time I have tried to answer, they hang up. They called my phone once again today and I answered. It was a male, in his 20's, (with a LOT of background noise, just like a telemarketer's office filled with monkeys with a script) offering to renew a free trade publication - Lightwave - which I no longer subscribe to. When I informed him that I don't receive that magazine any longer nor do I wish to, he changed his story to offer to renew - Aerospace & Military Electronics Magazine - which is yet another magazine that I no longer receive and haven't in over 2+ years. He said the call would only take a minute or two, and it wound up taking over 20 minutes with all the very intrusive questions. I finally informed him that I'd rather not give out all of that information about my employees and that I'd rather not have 10 copies of the same magazine sitting in my office. He tried to hard sell it saying that it's free, so multiple copies would be sent, even after I said to not send them at at all... At least now I know who it was that was calling and I will be contacting the publishers directly instead to have them add me to their removal list.

2007-06-22 16:35:00 UTCMike

I've rec several calls from them over last few mos. it seems. I never answer and I'm the telecoms field and sub to a few trade journals, which might explain it.

Man excitingly asked for owners name, when I advised she wasn't in, he was giggly and hung up. I would assume that this is someone to "renew" our free publications as well- judging by what I read here. The thing is: they call several times a day, and when you tell them that you've already provided them with updated info (Cause I do when it's slow here), they tell me "Oh well it must not have been saved in our computer". Well, it's not my fault you can't "save".
I have even told them we aren't interested in the publications anymore, and they hound me with it being "free" and blah blah.

I can confirm the consensus that this number deals with magazine renewals.

A year or more ago, I subscribed to a bunch of free trade magazines. Now, I'm just tired of getting them because I don't have time to read them. They're expiring now, and I get multiple emails and notices with the magazines asking me to renew. I guess they can charge advertisers more if they can say that relevant executives or people with buying power read their magazine.

Thanks for a great website, now I can put this number in my phonebook to ignore it.

I got a call from Aerospace & Military Electronics Magazine from this number. They were doing a verification for a magazine which would take 2.5 minutes; however, when they found out I was with a new company with a different title "only and engineer" they just said thanks and hung up. The quick hangup was suspicious as my new work is more related to their trade mag. Probably a third party doing work for different organizations which would explain the terse nature; however, usually other mags tell you that you are not in their demographic. Could be a detective or background check group.

Today I answered the call from American Pacesetters and found it was simply someone verifying that I still want to receive a free trade publication that I subscribed to. 2007-01-02 15:49:51 UTCKS

answered it because it is a local area code. Heard some voices in background; something about "waste of time"... i hung up. Noticed someone here mentioned a trade pub and science field. i own a small company but not in science field. i ignore all toll free, long dist, "unknown" or "restricted" calls. Figure if it is truly important they will leave a message for me to reach them. Have made a note not to answer this particular (480) number in future.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
