CONTINUED: Here is another GOOD site about this company, look at the bottom under "How to deal with West Asset Management" debtconsolidationcare.com and here is the companies web site to contact them westassetmanagement.com - again, Good Luck!

This is a collections agency, YES! They are rude, won't let you speak unless you answer the what they want to hear. They feel that they are owed money (this case that Medicade hasn't paid to a hospital, so the hospital sent it to this collections agency) and they are calling you, that you have no rights. Remember, it is your phone they are calling, you are not doing business with them, another company you might have done business with "chose" them. Contact your state attorney generals office. You might even contact the BBB (Better Business Bureau) or possibly the United States Attorneys (also known as federal prosecutors) since they call and operate throughout the United States and if they are doing wrong it may be inappropriate according to Federal law. Here is a web link: justice.gov Good Luck!

These people are apparently looking up addresses and doing a reverse seach and getting my number. I contacted them and found out they were looking for somebody that lived at this address 6 years ago!!!!!!

2009-06-09 19:23:13 UTCGARY

Calls over and over, 7 days a week, at all hours. Very seldom anyone on line and if they are they're very rude. Has been going on for months. Don't know what to do about it!

I would recommend you contact
Federal Communications Commission

They keep calling my number everyday 3 or 4 times a day for a person I have never even heard of. Everytime, there's never a message left and when I am home to take the call they hang up when I tell them to stop calling.

Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices in attempting to collect a debt. For example, they may not:

* Collect any amount greater than your debt, unless allowed by law;

* Deposit a post-dated check prematurely;

* Take or threaten to take your property unless this can be done legally;

* Contact you by postcard.

WHAT CAN YOU DO IF YOU BELIEVE A DEBT COLLECTOR VIOLATED A LAW?

You have the right to sue a collector in state or federal court within one year from the date you believe the law was violated. If you win, you may recover money for damages you suffered. Court costs and attorney's fees also can be recovered. A group of people may also sue a debt collector and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector's net worth, whichever is less.

This information is general in nature and is not to be interpreted as a reliability report BBB Definition:

report - A summary of activity reflected in a company's BBB file. Includes basic business background, BBB Accreditation information, and BBB complaint activity over the previous three years. Also reports may include any known government actions, advertising issues or other information that results from activity conducted by BBB.

Debt collectors may also not state that:

* You will be arrested if you do not pay your debt;

* They will seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages, unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so, and it is legal to do so;

* Actions, such as a lawsuit, will be taken against you, which legally may not be taken, or which they do not intend to take.

Debt collectors may not:

* Give false credit information about you to anyone;

* Send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency when it is not;

* Use a false name.

Debt collectors may not use false statements when collecting a debt. For example, they cannot:

* Falsely imply that they are attorneys or government representatives;

* Falsely imply that you have committed a crime;

* Falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit bureau;

* Misrepresent the amount of your debt;

* Misrepresent the involvement of an attorney in collecting a debt;

* Indicate that papers being sent to you are not legal forms when they are.

2008-10-09 20:35:18 UTCMP

Thought this might help some of you with this company. Found it on BBB.com:

WHAT TYPES OF DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ARE PROHIBITED?

* Use of threats of violence or harm against the person, property, or reputation;

* Publishing of a list of consumers who refuse to pay their debts (except to a credit bureau);

* Use of obscene or profane language;

* Repeated use of the telephone to annoy someone;

* Telephoning of people without identifying themselves;

* Advertising your debt.

They have been calling here 2 to 4 times a day for the last 7 months. We tried to talk with these people but they are crafty and dumb.

Do not bother "cooperating" with these bottom-feeders! See what Bud Hibbs has to say about them:

I am getting the call for someone that I have never heard of either. I have told the people that I am not Herman Spencer never have been and they will not stop calling. I have had my number for 2 years I am not sure how they got it, but if anyone has a way to make them stop let me know because it is my cell they are calling and it wastes my minutes.

2008-05-05 20:39:20 UTCSierra

This number checked out to be a collection agency calling someone who never lived at my home not had this phone # either. I resent being called at 8pm for someone I never even heard of!

These people, West Asset Management, calls about 4 times a day and never leaves a message. Basically they try to harass anyone with outstanding zombie debt, which has been sold for pennies on the dollar. The debt is probably more than 10 years old, and these people will call relentlessly to see if they can intimidate you into paying whatever you supposedly owe. Problem: they can't tell you exactly what it is when/where the debt occurred. The debt changed hands so many times that after 10 years, it is tough to track and more tough for them to give you detail on what it is you owe. They are bottom-feeders, and with high pressure tactics, people will cave in and send them a check (very foolish). If you are looking to get in touch with them to harass them back, here is their (real) phone number (888) 433-2886. They also have a website if you want to look them up westassetmanagement.com

I returned the call from this number when I saw it on my phone and there was not a voice mail. The girl on the other end started spewing personal information about me that I don't think she should have had access to (see notes below***).

I didn't answer any of her questions and asked what it was in regards to. She said she was a debt collector. See the email below. I sent this email to West Asset Management Company addressed to zdbostick@west.com:

"PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO THE APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENT

At or around 6:45 p.m. on April 1, 2008 I received a telephone from a collection agent employed by West Asset Management. This employee was abusive and violated every standard in the industry. I formally requested that I receive no further communication from West Asset according to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act / Public Law 104-208, 110 Stat 3009. The agent abusively refused and informed me that she would never stop calling. She also said that I had no rights.

Please be advised that if I receive one more phone call, I will elevate this to the next level by reporting West Asset to the FTC and Attorney General by filing a complaint.

Please consider this my formal request and warning according to my rights by law."

If WAMC does not comply, I will definitely file a complaint and I encourage everyone else to as well.

***side note: I was once on jury duty for a murder/drive-by trial. The gangster on trial had a job like the debt collector with access to information that is personal and sensitive.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
