If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, the right to dispute debt claims, and the means to sue at low cost. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

Heather, there is no agency called ''FDC'' related to consumer credit. You won't get a chronic lawbreaker like RPM to accept your verbal demands, either. In the collections playbook, you are a liar who is obviously hiding the hunted person in your attic. (Possibly ''Anonymous'' just before you last September had the same issue.)

You might have lawsuit material at ten daily calls, though our corpo-friendly judges often don't agree that bad behavior equals harassment. If you've taken abusive treatment in the skip tracing effort, you've a stronger case. The main thing now is to choke off the calls. Send a cease-comm notice via USPS Certified with return card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one. If your written order is ignored, RPM is in yet worse trouble.

they call our house 10 times a day for someone that doesnt live here. I tell them repeatedly to stop and that I do not have the number of who they are looking for. They just keep harassing me to give up the number. Not gonna happen! I told them to leave a voicemail for once, and they said they arent gonna bend over backwards to accomodate me. ASSHOLES! Im reporting them to FDC for failure to cease and desist.

I have no idea what they're calling about, but I am not about to answer this call. As far as I know I don't have any delinquent accounts, but if I did, someone ought to just send me a bill by mail. No one has. I'm not going to pay anything to anyone over the phone in any case. Even if I do accidentally answer one of these days.

greentree: If you are logging calls from a collector _in your time zone_ before 08:00 and after 21:00, that alone makes your case per the FDCPA.

2010-09-09 03:29:44 UTCgreentree

they kept calling me, no message of course. I called them back and its some collection agency. Unfortunately I have a VERY common name, so I get these all the time. I now keep a log of these bottom-feeders (who always seem to call at 5am or 11pm) and if they call again I have a legal right to sue them for harassment! P.S. if you call them back to remove your number, ALWAYS press the option that says "I want to pay my debt..." and just see how lightning quick they pick-up the call :) idiots!!!

I've received numerous calls from this number to my cell phone. I finally answered one and the caller asked for José. I told the caller he had the wrong number and he said he was sorry and hung up. Let's see if they call back.

2010-08-15 00:12:24 UTCJCHart

They were calling my 13 year old. They said they are looking for a Lola (ya, right) I said no one is here by that name, "I don't know a Lola and if you continue to call my child I will contact the police." That was that.

here's their web site- keep emailing them and call- to get your name off the list. they are preditory collections. dont pay them one dime. if they are calling you this debt is not from borrowed money- it's cell phn medical etc- this will not effect your credit. trust me i'm in lending and these bills are nonsense. don't let them tell you anything else- they are big bags of wind and i have been in the collections business for over 30 years. if a collection company uses a auto dialer- they are working on volume of calls made. They hope that one of the debtors will get scared and pay. trust em they can't file suit on you. they can;t garnish they are just big bags of winds. majority of their collectors have never been in the business and their training is stupid. let me tell you if you came to me for a collection job and told me your only experience was on an auto dialer- i would laugh at you as you leave my office and your resume on my desk.

2010-07-22 02:53:10 UTCag

They are a company that buys old debts from primary or 3rd party collections, do not and i repeat do not pay one dime to them- they are hoping that you do so the debt will be reinstated. depending on the state you live in they have anywhere from 5y to 7y to collect. after that this preditory collection company tries to get you to pay.

tell them to bag their a**

2010-07-21 15:30:20 UTCCalvin

2010-07-16 17:35:52 UTCIrritated mom

Evidently this is for my son's bill with Sprint. He hasn't lived here in almost 2 years. I keep telling them this, they still call EVERY DAY. They ask for his number, but he no longer has a cell phone. Not my bill- I've passed the message along- not my problem....grrrrrr

2010-07-14 16:07:58 UTCanon

Irritated - why on earth would you hold for someone who has called YOU? Don't even answer in the first place.

2010-07-14 15:49:57 UTCIrritated

Calls, but won't leave a message. When I answer, I'm on hold and have to wait for them. Not sure who they would be a collection agency for. I don't owe anyone any money. Is this some sort of scam? If it keeps up, I will be reporting them.

2010-07-02 21:59:56 UTCAnnoying

This is a collection agency for Sprint/Nextel collections.

2010-06-24 19:25:28 UTCRose Ann

These ppl do not get it. they keep calling for Donna she at one time lived here in the house we rent. she no longer is here and your operators cop aditudes when we tell them we don't know where she is at. I really wish u would take our number off of your list. but actually u don't have to we are changing our number and it will be private. So your ass's can leave ppl alone. yes and that Debbie chick is a pain in the ass. She hollared at me and i told her to go effin herself.. i don't have time to deal with such dumb wits.

2010-06-02 14:29:24 UTCdoesnt care

Its a collection agency. They called looking for me. My wife stated i wasnt in and the idiot on the other end just responded with" he isnt in????" duhhhh... I called the number back, told them it was a buisness line and threatened with the attorney general if they called again. I now call them from my cell phone with *67 in front of their number, that makes you annonymous. I hang up on them steady. Prank the bastards as much as you can...

2010-05-25 13:38:43 UTCChris

Tried answering but get recording that "your call is important...all operators busy...please hold" Won't hold for a call I didn't make! Since then, have let machine answer all 2-3 times daily have yet to leave message - though I did once hear a live voice saying "hello" over and over.

2010-03-31 19:29:15 UTCAlvira

These people call my number every day looking for someone who doesn't even live in my house. I have told them to stop calling. If I receive one more I will be sueing for harrassment.

2010-03-26 02:54:53 UTCamber

This number called me a couple times, and it was collectors for Sprint. But yes they called alot and at unappropiate times of the night. But that was my experience with the number....hope it helps

2010-03-23 18:54:44 UTCCaran

Debt collectors calling for person unknown to me and won't stop. According to research, this company buys old debts and tries to collect them. Filed with FTC after many calls from them.

2009-11-24 19:51:20 UTCSteve01950

I think they are trolling for live numbers - don't answer or respond or you (we) will probably get avalanced with BS.

2009-08-06 02:02:31 UTCmnkyman

Started calling Aug 2. Calls all the time - driving me nuts. Rarely answers no one speaks making me feel like the little girl from the ring is going to climb out of my tv & kill me - maybe not that bad but it is seriously annoying and more than a little creepy

2009-07-27 15:38:32 UTCReceivables

2009-06-22 23:36:05 UTCSammi

Calls daily, rings two or three times, then hangs-up. Have yet to get a call with anyone on the other end? I'm sure not going to call the number back.

2009-04-22 19:03:49 UTCchrista

they have called here everyday for about 2 weeks now, last week the lady said that my husband gave her my number and said she could call and collect the money from me immediately and that I owed a certain amount, I told her no that wasn't correct that the amount had been changed and that I was handling it through the company I owed, not her. Then she just kept talking and said okay I'm ready for you credit card number. I said no, I'll pay Sprint when I'm good and ready, they can wait for my money just like I had to wait for service, have a nice day. She then yelled into the phone that she was refusing my request and would not hang the phone up until payment was recieved. I hung up...tried to pick the phone back up a few moments later (about 30 seconds I guess) to call my husband and she was still there, this went on for 10 minutes! I had to go around my house and disconnect all the phone jacks and then go back and hook them all back up to disconnect the line. My husband said he didn't tell her that, he told her that he didn't know that I usually handled bills.

2009-04-09 17:37:46 UTCStunned

I do not recognized the number. I have answered and no one responds. I finaaly added to my phone's address book and assigned a muted phone ring. They never leave a message.(?)

434-533-9028--RPM, (Receivables Performance Management), also on telephone number--571-261-0021.
At some point, probably around the 30th hang-up-call, they will leave a message,Call Debbie, at
a toll free number she will leave. Had 33 calls from them in 14 day's on the 571-261-0021 number.
Now, today, 04/07/2009, they are starting to use the 434-533-9028 number. I am sure they have plenty
more numbers. A Collection Agency for Sprint/Nextel, among others. Main office in Haymarket, Va.

2008-12-10 18:43:17 UTCannoyed

If you answer the call, no one ever answers, it just clicks and disconnects

This rpm company has been calling 2-3 x a day and will not answer. My husband called the number in the caller id 434-533-9028 and said what company is this. She stated rpm. What kind of company and she would not respond. Why are you calling and would not respond. He told her to delete his name from her list and she agreed to do so. She did not speak English.

2008-07-02 15:09:04 UTCangry

kept calling for someone else who no longer had this number

2008-06-19 15:23:37 UTCirate

automatic dialer called and hung up. I called the number back. This is Recievables Performance Management. Their call is from a debt they bought from 1993? She told me to "look at my credit report," to find out what it is from. I asked her not to call and she said she "would call tomorrow." I reported the number to FCC.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
