I revieved a call from this phone number on the 2nd of September on my cell phone. Why I answered I don't know but I did. The man on the other end was very rude wanting me to verify the last four of my social securtiy number and my home address. I told the caller I would not verify that over the phone because I didn't know who I was speaking to and he became very angry spouting off the last four of what he believed was my social and my address. I again advised him I would not confirm or deny whether that was correct or not. The male caller became irrate yelling stating that if I knew what was best for me than I would confirm this information. I again told him I wouldn't and he yelled something to the affect that I needed to take care of this matter and hung up on me. I googled the phone number and found it was to this collection agency and when I arrived home yesterday I found I had a piece of mail from this company for a $53.00 bill for an electric bill to Allegheny Power that I owed from when I recently moved. Now you tell me is a $52.00 electric bill worth being rude and yelling at someone just because they won't verify pertinant information over the phone especially this day and age. Give me a break! They will get their money and also a very nasty letter along with it. I might just send the money in all pennies or something . . . LOL

I have received phone calls from this outfit, first at home, asking me to pay for a hospital bill that is 100% covered under my insurance plan at work. I asked them for a copy of the bill and they told me they could not give me one. Then they started calling me at work finally I told them to stop calling me at work, and to produce a copy of the bill so I could call my insurance co. They still haven't sent me one. The man's name was Shawn and he was extremely rude and insulting.

Have had numerous phone calls from this company, asking to speak to my husband. When I inform them that he is not in and ask if there is a message, they either go on a rant about not being able to get in touch with him, demand his cell phone number, or slam the phone in my ear. How unprofessional and tacky!!! They should be put out of business.

I don't know if we could file a class action suit against CBCS or not, but we can certainly file complaints against them with the FTC (ftc.gov), the BBB and your state's attorney general's office. Get more info on the subject of dealing with collection agencies from creditinfocenter.com. That website is a big help.

One third of all the calls on my caller ID are from this company and sometimes they call once every two or three minutes. I finally let 'em have it without giving them a chance to respond. They'll probably keep calling but it sure felt good to vent! Not sure who is worse, them or the moron who gave them my phone number because they didn't want to pay their bills.

File a complaint against them with the FTC. You can file online. It's easy. Maybe if there are enough complaints... Also, file complaints with the BBB and also your state's attorney general's office. Try to document all the harrassment you can (dates, time of calls). Check to see if you can record phone conversations in your state without telling the other party that you are recording it, then try to record anything they say. If it's bad enough, you can sue in small claims court. Each offense (of the FDCPA) is punishable up to $1000.

This is a division of CBCS, a collections agency. They are notorious for harrassing people for ficticious debt. If you do not owe anthing, and your credit has no blems, just send these people a cease and desist letter by certified mail.

The main office is located in Colombus, Ohio. Search the Better Business Bureau web page for CBCS in Ohio. They have had numerous complaints against them. Good luck!

I would love to take part in a class action suite against this company.

These wonderful people like to call and let the phone ring once or twice then hang up. No doubt it's a bill collecter looking for someone who had my number in the past. My guess is it's a harassment tactic.

Do not know who they are but call looking for my son, private matter they claim.

I receive two to three calls a day from this number. I answered once and a guy said his name was Greg and he asked for my mother in-law. I said she wasn't available and I asked if I could take a message. He said that he was a debt collector and that she owed him money. He then asked for her cell phone number and when I refused to give it to him, he became very angry and rude. He asked if I was screening her calls, I then hung up. My mother in-law has zero debt, so I know this is a scam. Also, no credible buisiness would ask for personal information over the phone and be blatantly rude.

Starting February 14, I've received 14 calls from this number. Since I don't answer the phone if I don't know who's calling, I ignored the calls. Then, this morning, as I'm driving home from work, the phone must've rang 4 times--all for one or two rings, and then a hang-up. I decided to come onto the 'net to find out where this number went back to--and I'm amazed that so many others' stories are the same as mine. Ironically, as I was reading through everyone's experiences, the phone rang again--and--you-know-who was the caller. This time--a message was left. The way they are going about trying to contact someone is borderline harassment.

Have gotten at least a dozen calls from this number ON MY CELL PHONE!!!! Its getting old, expecially because they call at around 9am. As a college student, I am generally not up at this time, and this morning they called 3 times in 20 minutes, as well as once yesterday afternoon.

2007-12-12 23:51:12 UTCK

My phone starting ringing with this phone number showing so I didn't answer it. A voicemail was left stating he was calling from the CBCS Collection agency. He stated if this wasn't (person's name), to not listen any further. My voicemail message clearly states my first name. I find these types of calls shady and plain annoying.

2007-11-27 01:24:10 UTCSWD

They called me 5 times, let phone ring once or twice. I forwarded the information to the state attorney generals office as a complaint.

I keep getting calls from this number and they hang up and never leave a message. I have no idea why they would be calling.

2007-09-19 17:19:15 UTCSJ

This caller calls continuously, but hides their identity, hangs up immediately if you do answer, and does not let the phone ring the phone ring long enough to answer it. They don't want dailogue or payment arrangements for debts, only stablish a "documented" calling history, perhaps for purposes of some predatorial legal proceeding. This seems a lot like a Shylock project. Shylock refused reasonable payment, preferring instead the "pound of flesh".

2007-09-08 12:38:15 UTCRay

I have received 3 calls from them in 20 minutes. They hang up if I answer, disconnect after 2 rings if I don't. I checked my records, they have called 5 times in the last 3 days as well. All calls between 8-9am.

2007-08-30 16:58:44 UTCjms

obnoxious, rude bitch asked if I was __________. Name not even close. I asked nicely, who is calling and then she went into a rage about why did I need to know if wasn't that person, and on and on and on.

2007-08-02 19:37:33 UTCrpupkin

they'd never called before then suddenly 4 calls in the last 20min. asked for someone who used to live here. i asked if i could help she just said "no thanks, bye".

2007-07-23 20:52:07 UTCIsaac

They called twice in a half-hour without leaving a message. Then two days later called twice in 15 minutes and finally left a message. We have never had debt, and we are listed on the Do Not Call list.

2007-06-14 19:07:10 UTCjean

i have received numerous phone calls (at least 5) from this telephone number through out the day today 11/27/2006 as "unknown name".. but its only ringing once or twice then they hang up...

2006-11-22 07:43:04 UTCAnon

Received a call 11/22 2006. The called asked for my husband and I said he was unavailable, could I take a message. The caller then asked if I was his wife. I requested to know who was calling and the man said: "and I'm asking you a question, are you his wife?" This struck me as shady, so I hung up. What reputable person or organization would refuse to identify themselves?

I keep getting calls from this number asking for my daughter who does not live with me. She lives in Pittsburgh. They will not tell me what they want.

2006-11-08 13:06:50 UTCJoyce Moore

I recieved a call from CBCS
collection agency November 8 2006 at 11:50 PM . I was advised that I was being recorded. He told me that I owed Aliquippa Hospital . I informed him that I did not owe a bill to the hospital,I advised him not to call my home again. It is a form of harassment.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
